Stuttering sound problem - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hello,
I use the HD2o WP7.8 ROM which I installed a month ago or so, because I found Android (which I installed before) a little too choppy after using WP7.5. The ROM works great, but some particular ringtones and sounds are choppy. Sonic CD also sounds choppy, but I thought that the game was just a bit CPU intensive. I didn't bother too much with it, but I noticed that if I plug in my headphones and play these normally choppy ringtones and sounds, it sounds normal. That is also the case with the game.
If I plug in the headphones while the aforementioned music and sounds are playing, however, it sounds choppy on my headphones too. If I unplug my headphones while playing these sounds and music which would be choppy, it sounds fine until the next music is played or when it is looped. Sorry if this sounds confusing, but I don't know of a better way to explain this.
As I said, it is only with a few sounds, ringtones and with Sonic CD. Some of the choppy ringtones are Activity, Ahoy, Alabaster, Botnia, Float, Glow, Marbles and Octaneum (which are all HTC ringtones it seems). Sounds which are choppy, are Nokia Calendar, Nokia email and Nokia Message.
Edit: I've made a few recordings of this problem. This is what the choppyness sounds like, and This is what it sounds like on headphones.

I noticed that Sounds are Choppy With the Louder Volume Version but normal version very Nice...

I am on HD2O WP7.8 2.00b also and some ringtones are sounding awful and choppy (even in low volume).
It seems like that when the ringtone is complex and with a lot of bit depth, the hardware (or the algorithms) don't seem to manage. Are there any fixes for this or is "as is"? Anyone found a solution?

sound choppy
Some of the sounds are choppy for me as well any fix for this guys ?
Also when I play video from Ipla app video is very smooth but sound choppy.
I changed volume dbatt to 60 and its very good for me.
If u got any solution for this let me know pls.

Sound Issue - brand new phone

Hi All,
Just received my p3600 this morning and ive noticed some strange sound issues with it.
Rom Version : 1.23.405.2 - Date : 03/11/07
Radio Version : 1.38.00.11
Basically what happens is that when im playing back audio or video whether it be from windows media player or coreplayer, right at the beginning of the song i get a couple of low "blips". More like a very faint crackling, for example when we used to put the needle on old LP's. This happens pretty much everytime i play the song from the beginning. Also, when i use Coreplayer and select do benchmark, for the first couple of seconds i hear that same noise, then the video zooms past but no audio except for the very faint beeping crackling noise. Im just wondeirng if anyone else has come across this or if their Trinity does the same etc? Any fixes?
Thanks!
Ricardo
some more info
I listened to the sound it makes using headphones and it seems like to be the audio comes on, then goes off then comes back on suddenly and plays the music. This happens all very quickly, like within half a second. Also when i forward to the middle of the music video for example, it plays, then pauses as the sound kicks in, then plays normally after.
I though that it could have been the video but then i disabled the audio from within core player and then when playing the videos there was no pause or skip at all.
Does this sound like there is something wrong with the phone or a rom issue? thanks!
update
i know im posting alot about this, its just bugging me lol It seems like there is a delay with the audio system. For example, when using coreplayer, i try and lower the volume and there is about half a second delay from when i press the down button to when the volume actually drops. Same thing if i increase the volume. Also, when watching a video i have to adjust the manual A/V offset to -0.200 so that the audio is in sync with the video. Im just wondering if anyone else has this problem, if its normal for the rom or whether its a hardware fault? cheers
Ric

big issue with audio manager-please help

Hi
I have been having a weird problem with the touch HD. After I installed pocket music player 5.1 I noticed that the palyer is not working correctly.
When I listen to music I notice that I hear a small gap or click in the song barely unoticeable, but to me its annoying. I store the music files on the external sd card. Also the sound quality really sucks from the hd compared to other mobile devices.
Then after playing some time I get a weird message that there is a error message ( audiomanager.exe ) encountered a problem.
Well Please tell me what might be the source of error with the pocket music player. And why do I get error messages.
Is there a better player than pocket music and gives great sound.
I don't like the music player that comes with touch hd, it does not sound that good either.
I kept getting that error with the TouchFlo musicplayer. I seem to have narrowed it down to the mps tags. I removed the track no and any comments and now have no problems.
For playback, are you talking about headphones or speaker ?
Have you installed th SD tune up prog ?
I have now installed the tune up prog.
I will test it now, but I mean that the lag in sound was when I connected the headphones.
What do u think of the sound quality ? I really am not impressed.
Is it cause of the pocket music player, or is there any other good music player

I find my iphone headphones fine but my B&O do highlight problems (but they do on anything), overall I find it fine. You can adjust the sound to suit using the audio booster. Theres lots of different settings to tune the music.
I think is a common problem I have a few friends including me facing this problem ' skip gap within the song. We all using many brand of headphone to test it still having same problem (Audio-Techic, CrossRoads, Jays, etc). Anyone have any idea to how solve it? Thanks....

Music playback issues: quality/noise, stutter

Hi all,
I got my Hero on Monday and I'm blown away by this phone so far!
The only not-so-great aspect I have found is the music playback:
1) There is a small amount of background noise when playing music, which is noticeable
in a quiet environment during low-volume parts of tracks. I don't always listen to Metal on the subway, so this is kind of a problem.
2) Sometimes, when listening to consecutive tracks of an album, there is a stutter when a new track starts. Haven't found a way to reproduce this reliably yet.
I was expecting to be able to ditch my iPod for the Hero, but I'm a little hesitant now. Does anyone else experience these issues?
I have the same issue with the jumping at the beginning of a new track, haven't noticed the background noise though probably because I do listen to metal.
Maybe it has something to do with standard sd card or how the mp3 was created? I hope someone knows the answer.
Also:
Does anyone know if there is a graphic equaliser somewhere? Music seams to be too trebley (using Seinnhauser earphones), but I haven't been able to find anyway to adjust it
Forgot to mention: I used 192 kbit/s MP3s encoded by iTunes and portable AKG headphones. I'm going to try out the included earbuds when I get home, to see if they "equalize" anthing.
I'm listening to Rufus Wainwright's Hallejuah on my Hero now over a set of Sony MDR-NC22 Noise Cancelling Earphones (in-ear type) with the noise cancelling switched off. No background hiss. Could it be from your MP3?

That's possible of course, but I never noticed noise like this on my iPod. One other thing I'll try at home is listening to a WAV file and check for noise.
Send me the MP3 file and I'll load it up on my device now and let you know if I'm having any problems
my email address is my username @gmail.com
Ok, I tried the included earbuds, and the noise is much less pronounced than with my AKG headphones, but still audible. It starts as soon as the playback begins and stops about 2 seconds after I pause the music player. (I guess this is when the audio hardware shuts down.)
MP3 and WAV exhibit the same noise, so it's not encoding artefacts.

Is it a buzzing noise?
I'd describe it more like a hissing sound.
Edit: I have attached a sample MP3 (hissingat5.mp3) in a ZIP file. I can clearly hear a hissing sound around 0:05 when the music gets quiet and I'm not using the included earphones. Anyone else? (I've checked the original CD with the same headphones, there's definitely no noise on the recording.)

My ipod touch does this sometimes. I have to reboot the ipod and its fine after. Maybe its because they are low on memory. Have you got lots of apps running? Try taskiller and try again?
I've found the music app struggles the most with low system resources and during the phones numerous "heavy lag" periods makes play back shutter or even stop altogether!
And god forbid you have more than five albums with bog standard 600x600 cover art... slow doesn't really describe it

Good idea, that might be a reason.
I think I'll be sticking to my iPod for now, though. While the stuttering problem is probably fixable in software, I'm not so sure about the audio quality.
my music also lags(espacially in sleep mode.. it's ridicoulis)... it's so annoying.. something needs to be done about this... I've tryed to memory cards and the music lags on both.. one is fast and one is slow..
I've found that if I play music through the phone itself or my headphones, there's no problem. If i connect it to my little 2.1 speakers, songs stutter, jump, restart, skip etc CONSTANTLY. Any ideas why this could happen? The speakers work fine with everything else, afaik. And the Hero works fine with other stuff... guesses?
I also have the slight hiss for a few seconds. Sound quality is pretty average, but i have my awesome samsung P3 for that
Im using a Philips SHB9000 stereobluetooth headset, theres no hiss in that, maybee its bound to wired only? thoe i have some stutter.. i use a Class 4 4GB Microsdcard.

Yeah, since you're not using the Hero's audio hardware at all, I wouldn't expect there to be any noise.
BTW, how much does the bluetooth headset drain the battery? I was thinking of using one to solve this problem.
Lack of gapless playback is also a bummer for me. I might be going back to my Zune.

Exactly the same as on my phone. I'm on my fifth Hero now and knew about the hiss already but this is the first to stutter. Exactly the same files, exactly the same memory card, exactly the same apps installed and running on the system.
No idea why one Hero has difficulty and others don't.
My Hero stutters even in the middle of songs on playback. I tried an alternate music player (nswPlayer) and it didn't help. I'm using mp3s but I think they're 320kbps. Maybe a re-encode would help?

Audio issues (stuttering and granulation, artefacts)

I'd just like to see if anyone else is getting any audio issues, as I've noticed a few small things that marr the otherwise excellent audio quality that I get while listening to music:
- On bootup, the startup.wav sound often stutters, or is finely granulated.
- While navigating through menus, sometimes the audio stutters/is granulated. If I'm right, it correlates to the cpu clock speed being ramped up due to coming out of "sleep" mode. This is just speculation of course.
- Whenever audio is played, there is a very quiet but audible (with a reasonable set of headphones) click, followed by a quieter "hiss" which then plays throughout the audio being played, and for a short while after.
Now this last "symptom" I've heard on many audio devices, some much worse than others, with a rare few having no noticeable noise whatsoever. The Dell Streak I owned for a short time had a relatively loud and distinctive "click & hiss" combo - it was one of the reasons I changed to a Galaxy S. It just surprises me that a device where many people are praising it's audio playback qualities (for me) has some issues.
Anyways, I'd like to hear some thoughts on this, and maybe some people who have no issues whatsoever, with quality headphones, could show me that my particular device needs replacing - or that it is common to all devices.
I get the stuttering on start up everytime, I was also listening to some audio last night with headphones and there was lag and stuttering, I didnt hear any hiss but it was not a smooth process expecially switching between apps with music player running, it froze up for a few minutes.
I also tried going through the music player menus and not everytime but sometimes it would stutter just going into settings, at times this phone frustrates me more than my G1, but with the G1 i expected that, especially running eclair roms.
RUNNING JG5
I'm partly hoping that maybe FroYo, with it's cpu usage benefits, might help with the stuttering.
I'll also try to do a decent recording of what I mean later on tonight - Im at work with a laptop at the moment, so the recording quality is dire. I have no idea what I'm doing in terms of impedances/loads either - it means nothing to me
e: I've had a look in the other threads regarding audio - the one about the default EQ is interesting it must be said, but there are no direct implications for the issues I'm hearing here.
I should post my software version as well, though the problem has been endemic to the phone rather than the currently flashed rom - I currently use JM2, overlaid with SamSet pretties, Mimo's kernel and LauncherPro.
2 phones here with a hiss/whistle artifacts during the talk :-/
I recorded a vdieo the other day & the audio was totally trashed - all I got was gargling crackle. It was bad enough that I thought I'd got water in the speaker aperture! But playing music is fine (to my ears, anyway).

[Q] Weird MP3 Behaviour

Hi everyone
I tried putting some new mp3's on my phone earlier. Other ones work ok. These new ones are a garbled mess like theres all sorts of reverb on them when playing from the phone speaker. On headphones they sound perfectly fine. I tried them with Google Play Music and with Doubletwist.
I tried re-encoding with Audacity but it hasnt made a difference :/ They are still garbled with the phone speaker but fine with headphones :/
Any ideas on this?
