[Q] Ankidroid crashes after update - Nook Touch General

Hello,
I've had my NST rooted with TouchNooter and used it mainly for Ankidroid app. Some time ago 1.2.1 update sneaked through, rendering rooting inactive. Afterwards I've rooted it again with NookManager, but now Ankidroid crashes. I've been wondering whether some other users here are using Ankidroid on NST and whether they had any problem after the latest update of software (particularly those using NookManager).
Cheers

Hello gliomarto,
Please install the SendLog app, and execute it just after the crash.
Then post the resulting log here.
Thanks for your feedback!

Hello Nicolas, thanks for this incredible app, i just rooted my Nook Simple Touch and was eager to try AnkiDroid on e-ink but unfortunately something goes terribly wrong which led me to this thread.
I also happen to have my device running 1.2.1 rooted with NookManager and here is my issue:
Ankidroid downloads my deck and all goes well up to a point where i tap "Start reviewing" button. The screen blinks and nothing else ever happens;
upon returning back the app displays an input to send an error and feedback, no matter which deck I choose.
I attach is my log from SendLog, the issue starts at 19:37:29

Hello Nicolas,
I'll join in to thanks for that extremely useful app.
I've attached the log, hope it helps.
I have the exact same issue as Imarooned (I hope he will forgive me relief I feel hearing that I'm not the only one having that problem). It is worth noting that the crash caused by this situation — after attempting to review any deck it blinks and sends me back to default deck (I guess it would send to the first in the list, were there another), and after attempting to go back crashes. It is also may be worth noting that crash sends report(s) about issue 1253 that was presumably fixed some time ago.
Cheers

And me third, exactly the same problem.
Anyone know what version of AnkiDroid should work on the Nook Touch? Also does the Nook need to be upgraded to 1.2.1 or will 1.2.0 work?

I use AnkiDroid v2.0.1 and it works fine on FW 1.2.1 (it should also work on 1.2.0).

I've tried upgrading to 1.2.1 to get it to work
I've done a factory reset, put the 1.2.1 zip file on, it's ignored. It seems something in the rooting process stops the upgrade working.
I then tried the 8 failed reboots approach, same problem.
Anyway of forcing the upgrade in? The main thing i want the ereader for is Ankidroid

gliomarto sorted me out with a version that worked
Just need for that fix to be included in the official releases now

Is there a way for me to get that version? I just rooted my Nook just for this (LCDs are giving me more eyestrain headaches) and am having the same problem.

The same problem was solved by checking the box: Preferences->Reviewing->Fade Scrollbars (Automatically fade out flashcard scrollbars when not scrolling).
P.S. AnkiDroid-2.0.2

Android 3.2 - No default picker screens!

Hi Guys,
Just hoping somebody can point me in the right direction.
I flashed to 3.01 US stock from UK in order to get the updates. I updated twice to 3.2.
What I'm noticing now is that if I click on a link, that launches an associated app (browser for instance), I used to get a screen jump up and ask which app I wanted to use. So if I'd installed Firefox, Dolphin and got Stock, it would give me the option if I hadn't yet set a default.
Since 3.2 when I click the link, the screen fades out, but the options aren't showing to select which means I can't launch the link/app.
The fix is to uninstall any relevant applications until I only have one app that can launch said link, then reinstall, and I get the option again.
Anyone had this or know how to fix without reinstalling everything?
Hope that made sense....very tired so it might not have done
I had the problem I hope u didn't set Firefox or dolphin as ur default browser what I did was erase all data now I have dolphin and the default drowser all working fine here

This issue has been discussed, but there are two simple ways to solve it without having to reinstall everything.
1) Simply wait and eventually it will fix itself. I know this sounds strange but it will eventually work. I am not generally patient so this one did not work for me.
2) With Autorotate ON, simply rotate the Xoom so that it has to redraw the "picker" screen. Do this when the screen dims and nothing is showing up. I have found that once you do this once for any particular file type you do not need to do it a second time.
I too was reinstalling apps to get the screen to show up, but even that did not always work.
I had the same problem and it seemed to only manifest itself after I re-installed all my apps from Tiamat/Xoom Zone with Titanium Backup. I'm not sure which app was the culprit but after uninstalling Scripter and aLogcat it started working perfect.
Hope this helps!
Same Issues !!
With opera Mobile and MoboPlayer !

Will certainly check these options out. Are you saying that in the first instance, when the screen dims.,...if I left it long enough, it would appear?
Has this been put to Google on their Bugs page,....as Bugs go...it's an annoying one
The Asus Transformer has the exact same problem. makes me think it could be more of a HC3.2 bug now after seeing this thread than device related.
Worse after you think you have fixed the problem every time you turn the device off and then on again on the problem begins again if you have multiple apps that can load a file or link like a web browser (I use multiple). If you have one app or set one app to be the default then you don't have the problem ....with that file or link
Easy to reset by rotating the screen ..but each time you turn on?
Question........
has anyone fixed this with a factory reset?
Factory reset will not fix this . Other browsers , media players and file managers somehow cause the problems .

Screen grays out when screen is touched

For some reason my screen will dim whenever i try to go to links in gmail or other things. Any idea what could be causing this? The xoom is not rooted and completely stock 3.2. kind of an odd issue and a big annoyance.
no solution but saw this happen today in a link in a mail client. it was not gmail.
also, i use honeycomb file manager HD (paid version). clicking on videos mounted at /external1 does the same thing. the videos play, they just dont play from within that file manager. this just started happening. Ive had honeycomb file manager HD for a couple months now (since it was launched) and was able to play the videos from within the app (it would pop up which video player to choose from...). now it doesnt.
i just figured it was a random glitch but perhaps not.
looks like the 3.2 bug... the screen dims when the application picker dialogue box is called, meaning it could happen anytime a link, file, pic, etc could be opened with more than one app on your device... try rotating your screen and it should appear... should make the problem go away (at least until next reboot).
Think doing a factory reset would help?
This is a well known and documented bug with Android 3.2.
Simply rotate your screen, and it will show you a list of applications to choose from.

Nope, as solarnz said this is android 3.2 bug... won't happen everytime, but everytime it happens changing your screen orientation fixes it... mainly a minor annoyance.
appreciate the heads up. i had not known about the bug.. was under a rock i suppose.
ive not seen this issue again and i just tried just now and all is well. next time however, ill be ready ..
thank you again to the OP for posting and for the followups. "thanks" are in order here...

Side buttons config

Hi, everybody!
I tried to search for a similar thread before I created this one, but I couldn't find one. So, if there really is one (or several), you have my apologies.
I've been playing with the side buttons config using the app NookTouchTools. First, I set them as if they were volume buttons, and they worked nice. Then, when I changed my reader app, I tried setting one of the buttons back to the way it were, to see if it worked. When I rebooted, none of the buttons worked and I've been trying out new configs since then to make them work, but it's useless.
Please, someone help me (it's really frustrating)!
PD: if you need some info about the software, ask me so I can ask my cousin, who rooted my NST.
So you're not having luck changing them around with Nook Touch Tools anymore? Are yu rebooting after changing them in NTT?
Ask your cousin if he blocked OTA updates. Unlikely anything happened recently, but an update pushed by B&N can break your root access.

Yes, that's the problem. No matter how I do it, or how many times I try, it just doesn't work...

Surprisingly (for me), he has no idea. How can we find out?
I am the cousin. I didn't do anything special, just what I did to mine, and mine's fine. Maybe reinstalling NookTouchTools or something like that?

You could try uninstalling, then reinstalling. There are no error messages or anything useful being shown? Do all other root functions work properly?
Finally, which one of you is bigger? Sounds like there's one working NST between you.

Did you change your default B&N reader? What did you change it to? Do the buttons not work in the reader only
or not in any other apps (like CoolReader).

My cousin will have to answer to all that...
EDIT:
Apparently he's on vacation so he will post in a few weeks...

No error messages anywhere. I just try to change the config, reboot and they keep on ignoring me...

I think I didn't change the default reader (not in purpose, at least), but I'm not really sure. When I use the B&N library to choose a book, it asks me which reader it is to use.
As for the other question, the buttons do not work at all. It is as if they have lost their config (in fact, in NookTouchTools no config appears).
P.D.: I'm going away on holiday again on Tuesday, so I will be long in answering again. Thanks for your help!
We have tryed wiping dalvik caché, fixing permissions, and reinstalling NookTouchTools. Any ideas?
I was having some other problems, probably concerning permissions, so I decided to re-root the device. The problem is, when I try to boot into ClockWorkMod, it doesn't load, but boots as usual, even though, in theory, CWM is successfully written in the microSD.
Any suggestions as to why that happens?
EDIT: The NTS was successfully re-rooted, after several hours working on it. The side buttons work correctly and everything is OK. Now, just to make sure this doesn't happen again, how do I block these OTA updates bobstro talked about?
Thanks for your help!

[Q] No Refresh on ReLaunch from Nook Manager

Hey there, I just had to go through a big saga that involved taking my touchnooter rooted 1.1fw nook touch , wiping it, upgrading it to 1.2.1 and rerooting with Nook Manager. I've installed NoRefresh, and I can get it to launch, but something is interfering with it. As soon as it's activated, everything gets greyed out and there's a ton of ghosting. I've ifddled with Relaunch's fastmode and other display settings but still can't fix it. What do I need to do to get no refresh working the way it used to with touchnooter?
Thanks!
Hi,
I can confirm this problem. If anyone needs some specific data, please ask for it, because right now I have no idea where to start to debug this.
Tamás
*bump* Anyone have any ideas? Even if it's just someone in particular to ask, any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Superuser is likely the problem.
When you run it does a notification pop up onscreen stating "norefresh has been granted xxx"?
That popup changes the focus and deactivates norefresh.
Simply configure superuser not to display messages when app switches to root mode.
This worked for me when I had trouble running under 1.1.X.
Norefresh did not work as well on 1.2.Z last time I checked with fastmode being a better alternative.
You need a different toogle app on the newer firmware

Thanks Crispy! However, I do have the 1.2x toggle app, and the problem doesn't appear to be stolen focus on my device. I do get that popup, but not when I try to toggle NoRefresh. So disabling the popup isn't going to do the trick. Something else is changing the contrast in a weird way a split second after NoRefresh activates, and it's negating the speed gains on NoRefresh.
I'm getting by with fastmode, but dithering is making text hard to read. If it's possible, I really would like to get NoRefresh working, without having to downgrade to 1.1 firmware again (ie wiping my device). Thanks again!

Nope. Though the problem was... well, not resolved actually, but obliterated when nookcolortools wiped the system when I hit a wrong button. Back to firmware 1.0.
So I'm now on 1.1.2 and nookmanager rooted again (dealing with a different set of problems, this time regarding gapps :silly but f4th0m and others may still want advice.
1.1.2 or 1.2.1?

Stopping over the air updates

Hello,
I have rooted using NookManager. Can anybody detail how to disable over the air updates? I'm currently using 1.2.1 and I'm concerned that should B&N ever release an update it could cause issues. This is a particular problem as I'm giving the Nook as a gift and I'd rather the recipient does not have any trouble should an update appear. I'd rather over the air updates are just silently ignored - There is nothing they could add that I/the recipient would want... It could bring nothing but trouble!
Thanks.

Thank you for that link. Sadly it means little to me. Can you please advise exactly how to 'do' what that post is suggesting? Ideally completing that action locally on the device (rather than ADB) as I no longer have all of the ADB stuff available and I'd rather (if possible!) avoid getting hold of it again.
Thank you!!
Done it locally on the device using:

Thanks
