I don't think you can do that with the stock launcher, but backing up the app settings for most other launchers (Nova, Apex, Trebuchet...) using an app like TB should save the icon config as well.
Edit: You can! Just back up the Launcher/home app.

Seems the the carbon update can back up this. Have not tested it yet tho.

I was wondering if there was a way to remove the words for the icons, so it would just say the app instead of the program but just the icon.
I have been missing around with different Home Screen launchers and you can do it with LauncherPro. Not sure what you are using though.
Possible with ADW as well. You can also use desktop visualizer.
i downloaded desktop vis. my only question is how would i go about changing it, do i need to customize my own desktop icons? or is there another way? thanks!

There should be an option in both launchers to hide icon labels!

Hey im running the 2.2 on Clockwork.
Hi All, recently installed paranoid android, anyone got any idea how i create shortcuts with my own icons? the default launcher doesnt seem to have anywhere i can change it. and i dont wanna install another launcher ideally.
couldn't one simply long press a app's icon on the home screen and then tap EDIT? then you can search for the icon you want to replace it with. I believe that's how I did it.

You would need a custom launcher like Nova Launcher to edit your icons

You installed a completely new, and alpha, ROM. Why do you hesitate to install a new launcher?
The latest Nova launcher will even import your icon and screen layouts from the stock launcher.
Sure would like to do this with out adding a launcher as well. Not sure Nova or any other launcher can duplicate all the different looks to your homepage that Paranoid Android is mostly flashed for.
Edit: flashing a launcher will do the trick disregard the above BS.

Use ADW launcher.
install xposed framework and then icontheme module ,works with stock paranoid launcher
so I installed the latest update for TiBu, and I performed a system backup. after completion, my wallpaper reverted back to stock, and when I try to change it by long pressing on the home screen and selecting wallpapers, I get an error message saying that the "app is not installed".
I also tried going into the gallery app, selecting a picture, and choosing "set picture as", the app force closes.
I tried using the stock launcher and the holo launcher, but to no avail. I was on the modded framework.apk, but even after reverting back to the original framework (and disabling LMT), I still cannot change my wallpaper. I'm wondering if TiBu had anything to do with it?
Is there an app that actually applies a wallpaper?
thanks!
Zedge allows you to apply then from within the app

Good idea. I was able to get it to work via picasa tool app.
Still odd that I could no longer do it from the home screen.

weird, so this happened again! I performed a system data backup via TiBu, and the phone's wallpaper went back to stock - still cannot long press to change the wallpaper (or change it via gallery).
my only work around is to upload a pic to my picasa album, and then set it from there.
has anyone had this issue? I'm guessing I'm missing some app?

This sounds like one heck of an obnoxious hassle. Are you using a stock launcher? If not, each launcher has their gestures and such for what long pressing the screen would do. I'm assuming you're using the stock launcher but if not, check the gestures on the custom launcher.

i'm using holo launcher, but this occurs on both holo and stock. perhaps I need to install another launcher....
hi, I installed the latest Android L preview and I like it a lot but the only thing I miss is my moonshine icon pack that I used on my kitkat build.
I looked around if there is any way to change icons on the stock launcher and I came across "Beautiful Icon Styler" and I found an old apk online but it does not seem to be compatible with the android l launcher.
does anyone know if it is possible to change the icons without changing the launcher? even if it is only home screen icons I guess it is still better than nothing
thanks
I dont know for exact but u can change pngs of ur stock icons. U can google it or wait till some one answer.
Wait for xposed to release an update for android L

yea I just figured out that one. However I think I might have found an easier way.
the app is called Icon Changer free and it basically creates a shortcut for the app on your homescreen with a custom icon. the icon doesn't change in the drawer but I guess it'll have to do for now
thanks
Beautiful Icon Styler
Here you go. Was looking for a app that allowed me to style the icons while using GEL (or pretty much any other launcher). This did the trick for me.

Just use this app called Unicon. You need root but it works.
