Greetings!
I was recently offered to trade my Nexus 4 in for an Optimus G.
I really like the Nexus 4, but I must admit that 13mp camera along with 4G is somewhat of a pull factor too!
I always root my phones and throw AOKP or MIUI or so on them, but the Optimus G has a locked bootloader so I'm afraid that development will have a slow start, so I am uncertain about buying in on the phone early :/ I'm also afraid that 4G will kill my battery, but my Nexus 4 already has lots of deep sleep problems which is very annoying, also been repaired two times and I'm looking at a third one soon too :/
What do you guys think? Obviously you will recommend the Nexus 4, but maybe we can have a discussion going!
but my Nexus 4 already has lots of deep sleep problems

What Rom and kernel are you using? I'm on AoKP build 3 and bricked kernel. Doesn't even deep sleep 50% of the time, luckily my kernel runs at 192mhz as lowest, so I can manage, still very annoying though

check your apps for culprits. it deepsleeps fine. i have 77% right now. thats the downside of letting apps do what they want - they will.

Totally stock. Never rooted and don't plan to. And seriously, even my colleagues (who have had many Android devices) agreed that this has got, by far, the best Deep Sleep S**t.
It lost 2% a few days back when I slept for 8.5 hours. For around 5 to 6 hours, it normally drains just 1%.
Developments for the G is pretty slow. The phone has been out for quite a few months and no great software has been introduced. It's sad. If I had to choose between the two, I would just no and just keep my N4. The G and the N4 are pretty much blood brothers. They're essentially the same except a few goodies. I think you should stick with the N4.

I'm running both BBS and GSAM battery stats, it's really hard to get to the bottom of it. Msm_hsic_host and power management id's killing my phone, thank God for 192Mhz

N4 VS OG
So Here I am.. In a one year old thread... Asking the same million question ''Nexus 4 vs Optimus G''
I'm currently with a moto AHD and hopefully I'll get a new phone soon. I would go for the N4 without a doubt but somehow.. In my country the OG is cheaper than the N4. As people said the problem with the OG is the traffic on their forums... It's pretty dead. I have no problem with locked bootloaders because I'm used to it with my moto device.
Should I wait a bit more to get more money for the nexus 4? or just go for the OG?

I've been pondering over whether or not to upgrade to ICS now as the german version is released. My question is whether or not the battery life is similar to what you get with gingerbread. I've attached an image of what i get on a normal day, when i am at work and use my phone normally and not when i am sitting at home and never let my phone hit deep sleep!
Sure you get a lot of added features but battery life is what i really care about at i need to go sometimes two days without charge.
Got around 74 pct after 9 hrs of extreme light usage.

How does it compare to ICS hour by hour? any difference would you say?
I would skip this Samsung release of ICS. Samsung's interpretation of ICS is not terribly different then GB unless you run a different launcher. I thought battery life was worse on the German release. With the added risk of bricking a few have experienced, don't do it.
If you want try the ICS, go with this one;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627854
With this one, you can easily and safely role back to GB from a nandroid backup. This one does not have Touchwiz and the SPen is not fully functional as it is in TW.
I find battery better on GB personally but not by much when u compare it to the silky smooth quickness of ICS

It's a shame because i really wanted to put ICS on but if my battery is going to die out in a day, will be pointless to have. Thanks for the advice people!
I'm getting about the same, maybe slightly better its hard to judge, yup never use your phone the same each day

For me so far samsungs 's ICS has not even been close to the battery life I got on Stunner. I'm a little disappointed but not enough to go back to ASOP or GB. Oddly enough I love TW with ICS Elements fused in.

It looks like it drops pretty quickly even when your screen isn't on. Are you sure you don't have wakelock problems? I think your battery life could be better, even without ICS.

Well i've just downloaded the app, xda edition ofcourse, lets what happens but judging from my deep sleep time, doesn't seem like i have a wakelock issue.
Any settings i need to change in the application or leave it to run its magic?
My battery life is noticably worse in ICS. I'm getting a lot of odd wakelocks that I never saw in GB.
This is my phone . You decide.

Well, if wakelocks aren't the problem.. Then I don't know.. ICS battery life seems better in general, but GB shouldn't be that different (and wasn't for me me I used it). Not that your battery life is bad or anything, but it could be better. Like I said, your phone in deep sleep should hardly use battery at all.
Well looks like I will have to test it out and see the outcome, looks like I shouldn't get my hopes up.

Is anyone else having really bad battery usage on the new update?
I can get my battery to barely last 6-8 hours on a charge with light usage and texting. If i leave it overnight it is dead in the morning.
When i was on Ice Cream I can go to bed with it at 95 percent and wake up around 85 percent.
Any thoughts?

I know but Ill wait until they have a stable version.
I updated about 2 days ago and I've been getting 4 hours of max battery life. A lot of this has to do with the fact that this is quite possibly the worst phone reception I've ever gotten. Sprint has always been bad, but not even Sprint could be this bad.
90 percent of the time I have either 0-2 bars. Wifi is also constantly dropping so that doesn't help either. I don't know what the deal is, but I've gotten tired of the Nexus S software always being subpar. I've been trying to root all day and I must be doing something wrong because I can't root.

Third day with my Nexus 4, and battery life seems to be just like the old days of my gnex ? I am really surprised. Tried different rom and kernel combinations. My battery is draining fast. Cant blame any app since i have been running the same apps on my gnex as well as my sold s3, experienced an impressive battery life on the s3. Even tho the s3 and the N4 has the same 2100 battery ? Any explanation? Ty.

Wait until new phone syndrome wears off.
You've only had your phone 3 days, and your still flashing new roms, which sucks up a lot of juice. Let it settle for a few days.
Also a 4.7" display sucks down battery. My phone last all day no problem now that I've had it for a few weeks. First week it wouldn't last 6 hours... because I used it for 6 hours screen on constantly.
On my S3/Note 2, every time I use my phone, both Screen On and Awake will be reflected.
On Nexus 7 however, when I'm using the tablet, even though Screen On is reflected, Awake isn't. Is this a bug or a new thing on Jellybean 4.2 or simply a nexus/stock android thing? If it's a stock android thing, then what does Awake actually mean?
Tried googling but I can't find any answers..
Awake means CPU isn't at idle. Like background processes running.

I'm not too sure exactly. On my phone it was always on with screen but may have something to do with 3g radio consuming power. It does seem real low compared to my phone. Even on cyanogen on my phone it shows constant with screen on and off. Maybe since there is no radio the CPU can idle most of the time.

My question is not really about the battery life but on how to actually interprete the meaning of Awake on the nexus 7 as it seems different from my Samsung phone..

I too am curious as to exactly why. I can only guess. I do know awake has to do with the phone doing tasks and pulling the cpu out of an idle state. My inspire seems to always show as awake even when the screen is off. I do notice though when I shut off mobile data on my phone, awake and screen on basically are in sync. The inspire has an old single core snapdragon though so as soon as I use my phone I'm sure the CPU is maxed out. However on the nexus, awake is only little slivers here and there even when the screen is on all the time. Maybe the tegra 3 is just that good Lol.

Haha same here on the Awake being little slivers here and there on my nexus 7.
Ideally, when the screen is off, the phone shouldn't be Awake for too long a period or too many times. It's an indication of partial wakelocks caused by some apps or processes in the background, which causes unnecessary battery drain. On my phone, comparing the Awake and Screen on allows me to quickly identify if there's any partial wakelocks. I can't do the same on nexus 7..
Hope someone can enlighten us soon on how exactly to interprete Awake on the nexus 7. Still not too sure if it's a stock android thing, a bug or a JB 4.2 thing. Haha
I, not sure why mine is like that. I am not a noon to android tablet and my Acer iconia get 10 hours battery use for a couple year old tab.
My nexus is setup with almost everything off and WiFi NFC of as well. The only thing I can think of is I did not do a factory reset after ota update to 4.2.1. I'm going to do reset after I do a full charge. If that doesn't work then I will flash a new to, and kernel
I believe the whole "awake" under battery is just a 4.2 bug. Because ever since my G'nex updated it's the same way even though it used to have solid lines in accordance with screen on. As long as both my devices continue to get normal (for me) battery life I don't worry about it. Though I do hope Google fixes it because I do find it slightly annoying.

I also think it is a 4.2 issue. My friend told me that his Nexus 7 suffers from poorer battery life since he flashed a 4.2 ROM, he reverted back to 4.1.x for his daily driver.
Maybe it only shows partial wakelocks called from applications (not screen)?

So far my record was 9 days, yup, you hear it right 9 days. It was only sms and call use but still I haven't heard about such thing from anyone with any device (ofc android). But mostly I'm charging it once per 5-7 days since I bought nexus 7 2013, so as for anyone who are looking for for durable android phone - jackpot and bullseye in one time.
Oh, don't believe ? Here are screens made just seconds ago -

It says - 9 days left / 3d 19h standby time (last charged) / 42m on screen time. Also there was few calls, few sms and quick web browsing (most of screen on time). So... maybe 10 days these time ?

Let it run to 0% battery and then see if you're singing the same tune
From my observations there is about a 1 in 5 chance of the eMMC being irreparably* bricked if the battery drops to the point of forced shutdown on any Moto G model (2013 or 2014)
*complete partition table loss, requiring the MBM-CI files which are still not available for Lollipop
