[Q]how to clear the softkey bar on a stock rom? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good afternoon.
that's all in the title.
I use cyanogen rom that I really like, but I use the SlimPort with this rom, it really does not work well.
So I think the best solution would be to return as root stock rom, but I do not like this softkey bar so I would like to know how to remove it.
knowing very well that I use the pie with cyanogen
thank you in advance.

On stock it's not really possible, but a clean version of ParanoidAndroid or Cyanogenmod or almost any other ROM should work great.

There's two apps you can use. GMD gesture controls and Hide bottom bar will let you hide the Nav. Bar.

Thanks is great !

Hide the navigation bar on stock-rooted 4.2.2

Hi everybody,
I was wondering if exist any method or mod to hide the navigation bar on the stock-rooted 4.2.2 ROM? I tried with fullscreen+piecontrol pro, but there is a conflict between fullscreen and piecontrol pro, the last one does not show the notifications...
I know the cyanogenmod and the paranoid roms can do that, but i am trying to preserve the original stock rom...
greetings!!
Edit:
I did it!!! and its very easy!
What do you need??
LMT Launcher
+
FullScreen Toggle (for android 4.1)
I found the FullScreen Toggle in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497558

Add this line to your build.prop- qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
Then use LMT Launcher.

will you listen if someone tells you this is crazy?
you want to preserve the polish of your stock rom, ...by installing a hack? thats like stomping on it. not to mention that its limited.
not many people know this, and this may come as a surprise to you, but nexus roms base on AOSP. in other words, that is stock android you're dealing with. theres no way to do it cleaner, you take android sourcecode, supplied by google, you add google supplied vendor files, and you extend it in a clean way. you end up with a coherent, sane system. you will not loose the polish that you know from stock. its not a clunky do it yourself makeshift solution, it feels and behaves as if its part of the whole.
watch a couple of these vids: http://www.youtube.com/user/molesarecoming/videos?flow=grid&view=0
neither lmt nor any root hack can do it. you really wanna go that way still?

i understand you. what im saying is, instead you take a nicely designed, coherent OS, and you smash it against the wall and stomp on it. by installing dirty hacks that is. theres nothing stock anymore after that treatment, you're dealing with root apps here running all the time, sucking your battery dry, ramping up your cpu. with smali hacks that erode your framework and fragment your android anyway, so its not updatable by OTA. you're going for the dirtiest solution possible thinking you'll stay clean. it just makes no sense.
I did it!!! and its very easy!

I already know the solution, but the concern is that the screen flashes when moving in such an application message, contact, etc ... it's a shame because this is the only application that does exactly what is being asked, just hide the navigation bar while keeping the tray.
Simple app to hide nav bar and replace it with transparent buttons on the corners
This app called "full!screen" is a quick and easy way to get rid of the nav bar. It (optionally) replaces the buttons with transparent buttons on the lower right and left corners. Very customizable and stable, but it needs root.

I am using this code with GMT gesture. Amazing and I love it. I am on rooted stock.

You can now hide soft keys (and keep notification bar) without modifications and reboots. Just try my new app:
GMD Hide Soft Keys
It also adds Quick NavBar - soft keys that can be openede with simple swipe from bottom and they autohide when not needed.

[Q] Hiding system bar? (back/home/apps buttons) (FIXED)

So I've seen apps for ICS and HC that would hide the ugly, huge black system bar at the bottom.
I've also seen a cool launcher that would hide it, and system buttons would appear from the side (slide in) when needed.
I wouldn't want to switch from my Nova Launcher, anybody knows of a way to do that?
(I need it for my 2 year old, who keeps hitting "home" when playing, and then yells at me  )

Are custom ROMs an option? If so you could try any that allows expanded desktop, then use PIE controls.
Indeed, I ended up using Pacman ROM with PIE controls.
Is it ROM specific, or is PIE a separate app?

PIE is possible due to code implemented into the ROM. Several other ROMs also include PIE controls such as ParanoidAndroid (which I use) and recently CM. Alternatively, you can get PIE controls separately i.e., not from a ROM by installing LMT launcher.
I see. I do wish it'd be released as a flashable, so that it could be used for any ROM people like.
Modular approach and freedom of code!! =)

Yeah I tried that, don't like it. AFAIR it forces you to use their apps and games, which I don't like. My kid only likes grown-up games like NFS and logic puzzles of different kinds =) He has no idea what to do there, but he still loves em for some reason.
Do you have test full!screen ?
It work like PIE control i think. I tested this work fine but i'not like "design button") but you can activate or desactivate it easily.

[Q] I Want To Maximize The Usage Of My Screen

I just want a clean stock rom with a smaller navigation bar/soft keys so that I go to use my nexus like in expanded desktop on custom rom but still be able to use drag down notification bar.
Any suggestion guys on how am I able to do that?
Expanded desktop can be set to only hide the nav bar in some roms. I use that in SlimBean.

A stock ROM + Expanded Desktop = Not a stock ROM anymore.
Go ROM shopping, it's your only option.

Haha I gonna try PA then. Love the Halo thing
Or you could use

and then install pie control if you want it, this way you can keep the stock ROM? Its a lot easier to just use a different rom though

Auto-hide Status bar

I have searched and havent been able to find anything on this. I am currently using the PACman ROM on my nexus 4 and I love it. But I tried the ROM cyankang and that one has this feature built into the ROM is there a way to put this in the pacman ROM or any other ROM on my own?

There many roms with this feature but If you want to stay on PAC ROM and want to have that feature, use Nova launcher it has that feature to hide the status bar.

[Q] Full Screen Mod?? (Pie Controls)

I know certain ROMs come with extended desktop/pie controls but is there a flashable mod anywhere with that feature? If so, can something like that be ported to the Nexus 10 for use on the Project Flaming Monkey ROM? I wish PFM and ParanoidAndroid merged: that ROM would be perfect.
Try this. I've been using it on my N10 for a couple of weeks & it works fine. I haven't tried a custom ROM yet so not sure how it compares to the pie controls in those. The developer says he'll be adding more functionality soon. He also made it available free to xda members here. It's a couple bucks in the Play Store.

I'm using Purity ROM with Trinity Kernel. (see my signature for links). Flash the free LMT zip which has adds PIE plus more desktop extensions. I also bought Smart Statusbar+ for an auto hide statusbar.
LMT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
Smart Statusbar: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kiumiu.ca.statusbar.free&hl=en
An alternative is Full!screen which I used to use on rooted stock along with LMT.

Have fun.
I've used LMT in the past, when I've tried other ROMs. I always find myself back using AOKP ribbons. For whatever reason I dig it. LMT has a ton of functionality though. Also, if you use nova launcher, it can hide the status bar. I like to hide my status bar and the nav bar and use the bottom ribbon for nav controls.
I use Full!Screen and like it very much.
I just wish it wouldn't constantly pop up screen notifications saying that it was granted super user privileges, even when it's not in use.

I think you turn that off in SuperSU or what ever you are using. That was not an issue when I used full!screen.
