Really think once the initial new phone syndrome wears off, the Xperia z will be viewed as having a good if not great battery life

That is really nice to hear

Yep stamina mode is really good, I charge my phone every 2days now.

Yes! I only exclude playstore and whatsapp . I can use it for 2days! Even with normal calling and sufing the web. BUT, when LTE is activated, half a day only.

What is the trade off? What is disabled etc..?

No real trade off.
Just disables syncing and background tasks while the screen is off.... kinda like an exclusive task manager designed for the Z.
I can still receive texts and phone calls and all of my facebook notifications come through as soon as I turn on the screen.
The only app I have on my white list is my alarm droid app, because it doesn`t work on stamina mode unless I add it to my list. :good:

What is your screen brightness? ddi you turn on "adapt to lightning condition" and "bravia engine 2"? my Z only last one day.. i have to charge it every night. I set my screen brightness to around 30% and adapt to lightning condition and turned off bravia engine 2. in battery usage it shows my screen uses 34% of my battery and 65% battery left while my phone 5h 5m 22s on battery....... :crying::crying::crying:

brightness is turn up halfway and bravia engine 2 is turned on.
something is draining your battery, probably an app in the background that prevents stamina mode from working. better check out whats causing it.

if you go to power management settings, then battery usage menu, you can see which processes are using the battery the most.
also try going through all your most recently installed apps and see if any are causing the battery drain.
worst case scenario, if you have low reception in your area, the phone could be constantly searching for a network which can also drain the battery.

Yeah, this, unfortunately, is the case for Brazilian users. I bought the Xperia Z (imported) and, as always, my battery will be draining way faster than what other reports. Please take this into count, it is, as stated, a veeery big issue.

I've got to say, after 3 days of cycling the charges, my battery has gotten ALOT better. Of coarse, the NEW syndrome has worn off some but also, the stamina mode seems to be doing it job as when my screen is off, it's like the phone is frozen in time with the battery stats.

I agree that Stamina mode is good
But "full wifi, Bluetooth and GPS enabled"? Everything is off right after you turn you screen off, so they cannot be "fullly enabled"

I'm using ~6% / hour in pretty heavy use with music texting and social medias.
I'm very happy with batterytime on this phone since people were complaining about it before the launch.

Indeed I've gone overnight without a charge and heavy usage the next day and still wasn't 1/2 way depleted. I think the Super AMOLED has a lot to do with the awesome battery life.

"HEAVY usage" is relevant. I've had my Vibrant for 3 days and the battery is unimpressive to say the least. Hopefully, it will improve.
I am not sure what you have to do to prolong the battery life besides not doing anyhting, i.e. I was in the woods this weekend with no service at all, kept the phone in flight mode, used it to snap 3 pictures and 3 vids no more than 1 min each - the result is impressive - unplugged the phone at 7:30AM and by 4PM I had 70% left. Woohoo, I guess, the phone did nothing for 8.5 hours and only drained 30%.
I unplug my phone everyday around 6am and as of now, which is 7hours later I'm sitting at 92%.
What have I done on it as of today? 4 phone calls, 3 emails, took some photos.
Things I don't do all day.
Watch avatar over and over, let it idle on 3G for no reason, let it idle on wifi for no reason, turn off auto brightness.
I do have a regular schedule of charging.
I plug it in around 11pm turned off
I turn on my phone around 540am and leave it on the charger. I'm always greeted with the Its full unplug message around 6am.
how come your display use is only 8 percent mine is like 74 percent even tho i have it set on the lowest possible......

Thats saying out of all that time his phone has been on, his screen has been on 8% of the time.
If you use your screen a lot the number will be higher and I'm sure the more battery that would be used.
Great results so long as you don't need any network access for email accounts to work. That's not really an option for a lot of people. I have to have either 3G or WiFi on at all times to receive emails. SMS messages will come in over GSM so if that is what you do rather than email than you can turn off WiFi and 3G and still do texting.
Email works just fine over 2G (EDGE). I've found that setting it to 2G-only while keeping WiFi enabled (setting to stay on during standby) if in one location for a long time works better than keeping 3G enabled.

yeah, tomorrow, i'll try to leave wifi and 3g on all day and come back with the result.
Checked my standby draining today. Lost 10% in 7 hours and 10 min. Look good, no ?
This is with: Google account sync calendar and contacts, push exchange email, 3g, auto sync
Must add that Tasker is also running and set to check everything to 30 min intervals
I have owned this phone since day one and am convinced that wifi is the biggest battery killer for me. I unplug it at 730am in the morning listen to live stream podcasts on the way to work and back (35 min commute). Make a few calls and texts, check all my normal websites on my breaks and when I get home at 630, I still have about 60%. In the settings I leave gps off and wifi on so when I get home its automatically on. By 930 the phone is at 15% so I am convinced its the wifi.
Having a screen this nice is worth the mediocre battery life, its actually better than my g1's battery life, so I am happy.

I'm not sure, I think it means of all the battery that has been used, 8% of it went to the screen. I would also like to know how you got that fantastic number! I usually have my brightness on minimum since I mostly use it indoors, and the screen is by far the largest consumer of battery power, even on days where I mostly listened to music (local, not net streaming) with the screen off...
I'm definitely getting better battery life out of this than my previous smart phones. Currently at 55% 1d20h unplugged. Light use, but still.

Moto X 1st Gen Battery issue.

I've been experiencing serious battery drain lately.
Lasts around 6 hours tops.
Check out the stats. Anyone know how to prevent this?
Drain is almost 3:40 min / 1% discharge.

Check if your phone turns off the display after the display timeout. I have seen this happen in Moto X sometimes.. It just stays awake. Restart fixes it.
How about brightness? Set it in Auto Brightness mode. Check your Settings->Display page and check all the fields. Apart from that Screen taking 38% is surprising.

I've been having the same problem. I updated a bunch of apps yesterday, (mostly Google apps) and it the battery seems to be better today. It may be too early to tell, but I'm hoping it was one of the Google apps that draining the battery and that it was corrected with the update.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who's battery suddenly got a lot worse. I thought it was Snapchat since I had started using it recently, but the battery usage page doesn't reflect that.
One thing to check is the awake time. If you notice that your device seems to be awake all the time, I'm willing to bet that it has to do with google play services.
If rooted, there is an easy fix via gservices app on market.

I'm having the same issue. Really only getting about an hour of screen time these days. When I first got the phone it was 2+ hours. Mostly use WiFi vs cellular for data, which I thought should be more battery friendly. I make sure I don't have apps running... I'm thinking maybe my battery has just been getting weaker over time.
Here's a good read on battery wear http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
If you charge once a day like everyone the battery decreases by 15% after a year.

Brightness is already set to auto. Also, I've check the settings and display page. Its as it should. I wiped out cache partition and it improved a little. Though I didn't saw significant change by doing that. It still runs for max 6-7 hours. That's it.

That is, it is solely used to compute the blame for battery usage shown in the "Battery Use" UI in settings. That is, it has deeply significant things like "app X held a wake lock for 2 minutes" and "the screen was on at 60% brightness for 10 minutes."

May be u need to calibrate your battery. Try to put the phone in charge and let it reach 100% and post that dont remove the charger for 4-5 hours. This is a method to calibrate. Try this and lets see if it helps.
And, I see that you are in H+.. Try using your phone in 2G for a day and observe the battery patterns.
You should clean battery stats from recovery.. Have you tried this?
Mine will drain fast but then it will sit at 1% for several hours before finally shutting off. I have not found a fix and it's been going on for a few months now.

u let the battery die out then recharge to full without switching it on. Once complete boot the phone and when booting is complete then remove the charging cable.

[RESEARCH] Zenfone 5 1.2Ghz Screen On Time

As the title said, I'm gathering some information about screen on time (SOT) of Zenfone 5 1.2Ghz (from 100 to 1-5 percent)
I want to see how my battery is after years by how much time it can handle now. Hope you guys help me.
In comment section, please including your SOT plus:
- What rom are you using? (Kernel version if can)
- Most used network: Wifi or Cellular
- Network setting: Always on or Never (Manually)
- App ram usage (Running Service in Setting/Battery or Develop Options)
Thats all I want to know for now.
Thanks!
Using stock rom Kitkat newest version, cause it uses much less battery!
I mostly use more of the Wi-Fi on always on
what is mostly using my ram is the screen ( brightness) and android
I will send more information about RAM usage later, my phone is recharging
Using 1.6ghz variant.
rom- resurrection remix nougat. but channging of roms didnt had any great impact
only wifi always on.
ram- 40-50% or below free.
sot i get varies from 2hr- 3hrs. only texting and light stuff gives around 2hr 40mins.
im using latest kitkat on my 3 years old zenfone 5 single sim variant.
this one with 100% cpu usage all time + [ full screen brightness+ bluetooth + wifi+ gps on ] from 100% to 5%;

Screen was always on in both tests. i used battery drain app to make screen always on with full brightness and wifi in second test and i get 3h45m screen time.
in first test i pushed cpu 100% and activated all gps/bluetooth/wifi etc and i get 1h53m screen time. but phone was really overheated and i scare to do it again (it was burning my hand)
actually i was shocked myself when i saw 4 h screen time when i used my phone to only read ebook all day in home with half brightness and i decided to test my phone. Results were amazing i agree, i hope it keeps that way for one more year.
i tested overnight battery usage and it dropped to 85% from 100% within 7 hours with wireless open while android sleep. i guess it might be better to close all network overnights

I wish I still kept the screenshot on Mashmallow to show you.
wireless is not the reason but the google play service. After disable a list of unneeded services, I let wireless enable all the time, gmail and other notification still can be recieved and battery drained 1% per hour (screen off). For specifically, after 6 hours over night, it will drain 6%.
screen on time is normally 3 hours but of course I have to tweak a lot to get this result. If not, battery just drains like hell.

I had a similar issue, what fixed it for me, was to erase system cache and then reset the battery calibration readings using the command *#0228# and then I turned off my phone for a while and turn it on before going to sleep and left it on airplane mode and Bluetooth to see any battery drain and so far so good.
Also in this thread in the last post of that page there is a solution that apparently works.

I wouldn't do airplane mode. Try with Do not disturb. It seems to work better somehow.
Check CPU Spy to see, how much deep sleep you're achieving with one and the other.
Also:
- disable all the apps you don't need + background data / activity (esp. preloaded Facebook, Linkedin etc.)
- you can try using Kiwi Browser (complete black mode) instead of Chrome (then disable chrome).
- switch off smart stay, turning on display when lift off, AOD
There's plenty more... but as far as my stats go with those settings:
- around 10-12 hrs SOT with 2-3 hrs youtube, 2 hrs browsing, 1 hr spotify
- approx 1,5 day of standby with that amount of SOT (with less frequent phone usage i got 2 days worth of battery)

s10+ exynos: Battery life issues.

Hello there,
I am newbie here, so please excuse me if tons of threads like mine are found across this forum, but believe me when I say i've read 'em all and I can't really work out a solution that suits me.
I've seen that people having the exynos version of s10+ deal with huge battery life problems, and so do I.
On the contrary, I've also seen screenshots of people getting 10 to 14 hours of sot on their s10+ and I really wonder how they achieve it.
First of all, I'd like to say that I've already tried all the minor tweaks like decreasing brightness, screen resolution, animations etc..
I don't really know how to use the "put apps to sleep" thing, and I'd like an opinion to that.
Anyway, I've observed that when I'm on mobile data/4G, the battery drain is insane. Like 1% per 3 minutes or so. Not that good for a smartphone at the cost of almost 1k €, huh?
These are the battery usage stats I get:
-usage by apps

-battery usage
-android system consumption setting
So...I don't know what's causing the android system to consume such large amount of battery.
-I didn't restore from any back up when I set up my s10+ almost 2 weeks ago.
-I wiped the partition cache yesterday
-I've optimized all apps (including facebook, messenger and instagram, although I use notification glimpse to get the screen to wake up when I'm sent a message)
-Always on Display is set to "off"
-Battery saving mode is set to "optimized" with adaption pattern set to "on"
-Almost 40% brightness during most of the day
-I'm running the latest software available
-animation frames decreased to 0.5x and also reduced via settings
-location and bluetooth permanently set to "off"
-I've already read the battery optimization guide, but I don't feel like turning all the features that drove me to buy this device to "off"..There has to be another way
Please take your time to look into it and enlighten me because it's so frustrating that a 1000 euros smartphone has to be so much tweaked to produce a decent battery outcome.

First of all. Your battery stats aren't bad at all. 20h on battery with 4 hours and 30 mins screen on and 32% remaining.
You managed those stats with 4g only? That would be just perfect
10h of screen on is possible if you just stay on the phone after you unplug it.(did it myself) but only wifi and indoors brightness(@30%)
They are bad. Android systen usage is too high. Mine is about 7-8 % over 20 hours.

I had 4G open (whether the phone was idle or active & messaging etc) about 5 to 7 hours in total. Can't be totally sure. The rest of the day I either used WiFi or no internet connection at all.
The battery since the last charge lasted 25h with Android system draining 22% of it. That fkn huge. I don't know what's causing it. I just tried to restrict it from running to background, but the adaptive power option keeps re-enabling it.. xD

Yeah, I've noticed, I'm asking if there's a way to fix it or find what's causing this and then fix it.
There is plenty of things to turn off because of android system high usage. Install battery gsam monitor, grant adb permissions then you will see what drains youe battery.

So what app should I use to see what's draining my battery and what's causing android system to drain almost 30% of battery per charging circle?
I'm getting 4 hrs of average SOT on 4G with youtube, some browsing, calls with standby time of about 15hrs.
But on Wifi SOT is 7+ hrs.
