I wonder which of these watches function the best without tethering to a smartphone? I realize that the answer could be apps dependent.

Motoactv. It's the only one that I know of that actually runs full blown android by itself. The rest only give you notifications and have limited apps. My motoactv is rooted and can play angry birds or almost anything I put on it.
No other watches besides the Motoactv?

From what I understand all the others aren't true "smart watches". They don't run an actual OS, they just sort of get information from your phone. With the ACTV, it can actually make google voice calls ITSELF (over wifi, and if you can get a mic attached to it).

What's the battery life like? I'm looking for a smartwatch with the most standalone functions too.
The Omate functions stand alone too.
The smartq z watch is a full android watch too. Working with wifi.
Or did you mean a PHONE watch (with sim and call/sms/3g)?

You're right the SmartQ Z too. If you have BitCoin you can get a new SmartQ Z for $79.
This thread is from a year ago. Look at the date on my last post. I still wear my actv though, while I'm waiting on my Omate.

How many days battery life are you getting? Can you kindly describe as in with BT on or off and wifi on/off ....etc.
cuz if the new google watch and moto 360 aren't that great I might search for the Moto.

7- 10 days is very good for a true smartwatch. If u dont know can u guess ...how many days would it last with BT only on and the watch switched off at night?
Odd question... if 'had' to use it as an alarm clock then I can plug in mini 3.5mm speakers and use the alarm app.
over clocking the cpu to 1000mhz will reduce the battery life?
I'd say at least 5 days. Bluetooth on it is 4.0 low power.
Yes, you can do that I believe.
Overclocking is unstable and not recommended.

Swapped from the atrix and never looked back. Getting 7 hours standby per 10% of battery so I'm lucky I don't have the battery drain issue. Though having said that, the screen really sucks up power when you've got it on.

I feel the same way as all of you. Just got the SGS2 Friday night and absolutely love it. I rooted it within a few hours as I wanted to Titanium backup but for now I am totally happy on stock. The phone is absolutely brilliant. I love surfing webpages now, no more lag even if I choose to play a flash video within the page. Video recording is amazing too. I was a little nervous reading about issues people were having but I have experienced none.
I also love that you can turn the soft keys off or extend how long they are on for. Samsung really thought things through on the design of this phone.

Its a French company and obviously the sites moderator/creator has a language barrier. They actually have a previous product that has been successful but it was geared towards being used as a workout companion paired with a smartphone.

Just a quick note to all, the Vea team slightly changed their design by using an LG screen which has several people pissed, although I personally still like it.
With that said, if any of you are interested, be on the lookout for some folks selling theirs since they do not want to keep the watch once it has been shipped.

Interesting Android smartwatch here. It can actually be used as a standalone phone, bands are GSM/GPRS Quad Band:GSM 850/900/DCS 1800/PCS 1900 MHZ (can this be used on AT&T?).
What I'm not seeing is if it can be used as a dialer for your phone, so you can just leave it in your pocket and make and receive calls like the Gear.
What do you guys think? I'm tempted to get it just to play around with.

Feature phone software, bleh.
Although I guess for 100 bucks you can't expect it to run Android.
Edit: Hmm, just noticed no where does it say there's a speaker built in...guess you have to use a headset to use it as a phone.
Also only compatible with Android 2.3-4.0. Doesn't say it works with newer.

Dunno why but personally i find most smart watches just tend to look either dull, or just plain awful. Maybe it's because of the space they have to work with? Dunno :/
You guys realize it's a phone? It might be nice to have as a backup phone, or if I just want a tiny phone. It doesn't run apps, but I never had much use for apps on a 1.5" screen.
It's interesting, I may grab one just to play around with. It seems to have AT&T bands. I don't plan on using it like a watch though, it's too ugly like that. I'd just stick it in my pocket or clip it on.

Built in mic allows you to answer on your wrist and be like I'll call you back it also has Bluetooth audio out and wireless headset support. Weird thing is contacts and messages won't work without a sim has to have one active or not I'm on Verizon so its pointless to try lucky I had art laying around and it vibrates!! Smart Sync Function: Can sync with smart phone, downloading phonebook and call history (iOS 4.0+ and Android 2.3+) to the device. When using Android 2.3+ OS, download and install the WiMe NanoSmart APK on the Android device and the NanoSmart will sync with the Android device (Google calendar events, new Gmail notification, call history, phonebook, sent/received SMS).

Just wish it wasn't $350 for a 1st gen device in a soon to be crowded and lower priced market. I already have a MetaWatch Frame ($200), and would rather wait for Google to release something that I know will be supported for a while then drop the money on something that may or may not be getting new and improved apps a year from now. That being said, the Mirasol screen looks awesome and I like the overall look and features of the watch. For $250 I would have already pre ordered it, $350 is overpriced.

I hear what you're saying about smart watches in general are coming out overpriced but I believe that the Toq is comparable due to the added wireless charger that makes up for the additional cost. That is a feature which none of the others have at this time anyway. And believe me I am not trying to justify their initial high costs because I too think all of the smart watches in general should start at a lower cost margin than what they have started with when they first came out.
This watch is already available for purchase at USD399, anybody here getting it? The deal breaker with this watch is that it has no Ingress Protection (IP) rating. Yes, it is not waterproof. You spend a lot of money into something that is not waterproof, that is so not right.

Lol, I guess I should have mentioned that part. Without a Doubt the Toq is best out of Box. Its companion app has everything I needed (Except Tasker integration) without having to buy and/or wait for 3rd party apps. If the SDK for the Toq is release soon and Dev start cranking out apps, the Toq is a guaranty to be the Top Smartwatch in my opinion.

WOW, you gotta be kidding me? That is very impressive!!! Do you get a lot of email/txt/call notification during the day? Also, do you unpair it at night or keep it paired up 24-7? I know with my MetaWatch once the watch is far away from the phone, my phone keeps searching for it non-stop which drains battery on my Note 2 lol!!! So, every night I unpair my MW and N2.
Also forgot to ask, from the pictures, can you tell if Toq is tinner than SW2 or not? It definitely looks thinner than Pebble.
But can it....
Can it run google maps? I want to be able to wear it while I'm on my motorcylce and glance at it once in a while instead of only having audio telling me how close I am. Thanks and congrats on the new watch!

on the first day, without sim, it says many times overheating, but now, theres nothing at real use and with sim, sd and connections.
now it is on 42°C after an hour photoshooting
So its worth the money?
In germany its about 600€...which is, in my opinion, y bit overpriced.

Check it on eB..., prices have already come down to around 500 EUR for devices people have received from their carriers (but are unlocked!). So we're getting there quickly

The problem with buying from ebay, that warranty is a problem.
Currently i'm using my Z3C but i'm thinking about upgrading to the X.
I could get it for 420€ in Germany do you think its a good buy for that money?

Check for the official price for it in Germany, then you will know. Different countries have different pricing polices, some countries you will have to pay full prices, whiles others you can get them free or reduced price with a carrier plan.

Got mine on UK launch after years of HTC phones.
So far I love it, very quick phone, the display is fantastic.
Plenty to explore for me and will be having a good play around...

Not in Germany at least (from where he is). All Sony Repair Center is asking is the IMEI (from which they can tell the age).
