Hey guys
Just a quick yes/no answer
I have a HTC HERO gsm... its running with the newest HTC update...
To root I shall do this right? :
1. Universal Androot -> root device
2. ROM manager -> Flash ClockworkMod Recovery...
3. Download a ROM (suggestions ?)
4. ROM manager -> Install ROM from SDCard
Done ??

I'll try this ROM
Floyo 1.1.8
but the rest ?..
Floyo is great! FroydVillain is also good (but imo a little bit bloated). You could always try piecing your own device together from great pieces of work created by various people around XDA (this tends to be what the ROM packagers do, but they put them together in nice neat packages that do a lot of the work for you).
However, for a first rom, Floyo is a great choice!
Zeb
and the rest i listed is correctly ?
And one more question...
Will this rom install wipe my SD-Card ???
No, but if you choose to wipe SD Card Or EXT- Partition than it will !
Okay thanks
Then I'll properly have a rooted hero with android 2.2 at the end of this day
First time Boot
I have rooted now...
How long time should the FLOYO boot screen be there ?
its just goes round and round... and then blink some times...
is this normal ???

Yea, this can take a very long time. Leave it, but if it takes longer than about 30 minutes then I would pull the battery and reboot.
thanks.
How do I boot into recovery if I need that ?
When powering on the phone, push and hold the Power and Home buttons until recovery boots.
Okay, thanks againg
New ROM

just Wipe everything .. its okay if you dont wipe App2sd Because you going from 1.1.8 to 1.1.9 but its good to wipe everything .. because it affects your ROM & Speed
Hello, its my first time of rooting and installing a custom rom.
I have followed what B4Me has done as far as
1. Universal Androot -> root device
2. ROM manager -> Flash ClockworkMod Recovery...
Ive then used rom manager to partition my sd card
512mb ext size
and 32mb swap size.
Im planning on following Zebwen guide
The Perfect Hero Setup (How to set up your Hero with granular control)
Once ive downloaded all the parts what part of the SD card do i put them in?
When i mount the phone to the computer and open the sd card i have a one folder called rosie_scroll.
And then can i use Rom manager to flash and install the new rom?
Oh and whats the easiest way to completely wipe the phone?
cheers for any help, or a point in the right direction.

If you are using clockwork recovery you can put the zip files anywhere you want on the SD card. I have a folder named roms and I place them all in there.
You can wipe the device through recovery also. When people say "full wipe" they mean to wipe nand, battery stats, rotation, ext... basically all of the wipe options. This will leave your phone with only the recovery mate on it and it will leave the storage area of your SD card intact too.
Once you have done all of this you can go ahead and flash the roms as outlined in the other thread.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
then put new rom on sd-card (ex. Floyo 1.1.8.zip)
turn phone off
turn phone on WHILE holding down the HOME button, till a recovery screens appers.
in here, select first wipe all
then install .zip from sd-card
select the rom (ex. Floyo 1.1.8.zip)
it will then flash, and then you just WAIT and WAIT...
if like mine nothing happens after 40min
pull the battery, and restart the phone, DONT flash again.. just reboot it...
then It should start up after some tries
Spot on, thanks very much for the help.
Is it also advisable to do a nandroid backup?
Or is that not needed with me using the flash clockworkmod recovery in ROM Manager?

Hi, I just did the same thing as clobberknocker but floyo just seems to keep spinning on screen! I pulled the battery and tried to boot again but it wont boot up. What should I do? Just let it keep going? Thanks.
Finally got my tab back and I am now thinking of flashing a custom from on to it. So I just wanted to know which is the best rom to install on my version P7500 and one that as the least problems. This will be the first time i have done this so how easy is it and what's the best way to do it with out effecting your flash count
I can suggest 2 different ROM´s.
Overcome v2.3.1, all is working, but is Honeycomb 3.2.
Or, when you not need the camera, use ICS 4.03.
(Camera driver is not available at the moment for ICS)
My favorite is AOKP, Version Milestone-4 and update build28.

Here are some hints:
Installation:
Make sure you're on the latest CWM (root your TAB)
MAKE A NANDROID Backup (in CWM)
wipe data/factory reset in recovery
flash ROM
flash Gapps
reboot
wait for the ICS its coming soon

Your guess is as good as everyone elses. I've seen estimated times pass already, and several say another month and longer.
Seems the only agreement you'll get is either soon or later, to never.

Nandroid make backups in /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup,
factory reset does nothing there.
I would also suggest overcome 2.3.1 while waiting for ICS release. I actually use the camera :-(. Otherwise I would be using a custom ICS ROM.

How good is overcome 2.3.1 am on the original rom 3.2 and it still feels like it struggles at times
Give the rom a change and flash it, you will see it is awesome,
but the custom ICS roms are also for daily use ready.
The only possibility to determine which rom is better for you,
is to flash it all.
You can not damage your TAB, and with Odin you can anytime back to stock samsung firmware, which were found on sammobile homepage.
Will this effect your flashcount
How do you root the 3g version there used to be a guide on here but i cant find it
This guide is the best and it works for the 3g model as well

Samsung has already rolled out ICS for galaxy S II and the ICS for GT 10.1 is supposed to be released soon but soon is such a bad word to use since its always used to evade responsibilities!
Anyhow I am hopefully Samsung will push it out before end of Q2 as promised before but what saddens me is that the next Android Jelly bean is right around the corner yet all the companies are struggling to update their devices to ICS. Android's biggest problem as of right now is fragmentation and Google should look into it seriously!

And also I would suggest ICS rom from AOKP as even though Task did an amazing job with his Task14 rom it struggles at time to do very simple things where as ICS is blazing fast even though u might find hiccups once in a while !

Did you also flashed the correct file,
there are two full versions available?
GT-P7500 / 3G-WiFi
Overcome_10.1_Series_v2.3.1_P7500_Full.zip
http://www.rosanoscorner.com/p7500/downloads/Overcome_10.1_Series_v2.3.1_P7500_Full.zip
GT-P7510 / WIFI only
Overcome_10.1_Series_v2.3.1_P7510_Full.zip
First of all there is no way to avoid that 'flash count' thing...
Now, there is no need of rooting if u are going to flash a custom rom like ICS (preferably AOSP) or Overcome....coz they come pre-rooted...
1) Grab the latest odin flashable CWM recovery from http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/recovery/cwm5/p4/recovery.tar.md5
2) Flash the above downloaded CWM in the PDA section of Odin. in the Download mode (press the vol down button while turning on the tab...when two icons appear, press the vol up button and again confirm by the vol up)
3) Also Download the required Custom Rom .zip file and copy it to the SD card root of ur Tab..
4) Turn the tab off and while restarting again enter bootloader mode by keeping the vol down key pressed...now use the vol down key to navigate to the left icon nd use the vol up key to confirm...now u'll enter CWM recovery...
5) Use the volume keys to navigate...nd power switch to confirm.
6) Wipe user data...cache nd dalvik cache (in advanced)...
7) Now go to 'install zip from SD card' nd 'choose zip from sd card'
8) Now choose the zip file dat u copied earlier nd confirm...(if u flash ICS then u also hav to Flash Gapps without a reboot in between)
9) After everythng is done reboot your tab...nd ur done...
10) Enjoy....nd Happy Flashing..!!!

2.Copy it over to the sd card or internal sd card.
3.Reboot into recovery then flash the NFC pakage.
4.After that reboot, and it maybe take awhile boot but dont panic
5.After boot go into settings and go ti network settings, and u
should see NFC and in app drawer u should see Tags.
6.next turn it on but it wont work really yet so after turnign on
reboot into recovery and wipe dalvik and cache parratition.

If I'm not mistaken, the NFC chip is in the battery and not the phone. I assume this is for those who purchased a battery with the included chip.

Yes it allso lays in the battery but not only that every rom has the nfc ibstalled but sammy roms are removing the nfc parts and this is a zip that puts every nfc part back together so it can be used it has some bugs and can give some force closes but any ways it works i have tried it myself and download link coomin soon.

Hello! I have been observing for the past few weeks how the accelerometer on my device stopped working after i flashed a jellybean rom. The curious thing is that if i installed any other rom (sense or non-sense ICS or GB) my accelerometer started working perfectly.
So i followed a few recomendations from other users who told me to use Aahk and return to full stock then re-root flash recovery and flash jb rom.
I did that and guess what everything was fine until today when i switched from a sense 4 rom back to jb and the problem with auto rotate was back.
I am not a dev but something in the sense 4 rom is killing the accelerometer for any/all jb roms flashed afterwards ( yes i have wiped everything 3x even with ARHD superwipe script)
And now the good part, i was experimenting today to see how i could get back accelerometer functionality without going through aahk re-stock procedure and i found a way:
1. Download this stock rooted rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235
2. Put it on your sd card , reboot in recovery , wipe everything except sd card (obviously) and install it
3. Let it boot at least once, go through initial setup, reboot recovery wipe everything, and now you are ready to flash jb with working auto rotate
P.S. to reboot in recovery with stock rooted rom you have more options ( no advanced power menu)
1, From adb : adb reboot recovery
2. Download quick boot from playstore ----> https://play.google.com/store/search?q=quick+boot&c=apps
3. Pull battery out then put it back in keep volume down and power buttons pressed until you enter bootloader from here navigate to recovery and you are done.
I hope i am right. I had but only one dhd to test.
don't work for me :s
have test with this stock rom (full) and super stock rom 3.20 from inspire 4G thread;
i have a DHD.
with hboot 0.85 it work (before have hboot 2.0 from aahk)

Doubt it has to do with the rom you had installed before, but it has to do with the kernel etc. Have not checked the link you posted above but I am certain you have tried the JellyTime Rom and it is true that the accelerometer does not work. However, jellybean is still more than anything still new at best to our device and it will take time for it to be fully stable, taking into the account that HTC never had plans on upgrading us to JellyBean

Just to clarify things... There is a cahce partition in our phones (Im not talking about Dalvik Cache)
The data in this cache partition won't be erased even with a full wipe.
When you install a JB rom, you CAN have conflicts in it ( not all users experince this ... )
So the only way , was to use the RUU, because the process it is using include wiping this cache partition ....
However , the cause of this conflict is still unkown , even if one day , if i rememeber, Synergy pointed out that the problem had to do with the upstream in custom JB roms.

The first time i returned to stock i used aahk and i fully returned to stock ( s-on ) and then i rerooted and flashed recovery but with the help of the aahk devs i realized that i didn't have to go full stock actualy you don't even have to use ruu you just need a stock rooted rom zip to flash in recovery and allow it to run once.
This is easy to do just flash it like any other rom in recovery let it power on and let sense start then reboot recovery and flash jb and you have working accelerometer and auto-rotate

Second point, I did not say that your solution isnt working.. It is just that it did not work for everyone (see my thread)

The accelerometer in my case didn't work at all on jb roms. I have tried, exactly as you suggested using andro sensor from play store, and my accelerometer was on a gray background and nothing was changing in read values as i tilted the phone. But from what i have heard it is also a radio related issue plus that pesky cache partition.
But i'm sure that the devs will figure a out an easyer way my friend.

Mysteries ... There are still a lot of mysteries
Anyway, the important is that we can use auto rotation again whatever the solution is....
However, I hope too that devs will figure out what is the real culprit even if I see this as not being their priority for now

Bootloader has to be unlocked to flash a new kernel. And the recovery doesn't have permissions to overwrite the kernel so you have to boot into flash mode (or fastboot???) which requires an unlocked bootloader.
I am tempted to flash this though but I'm not exactly ready to unlock my bootloader yet

Maybe he means backup TA direct from 4.3?

Bootloader has to be unlocked to flash a new kernel. And the recovery doesn't have permissions to overwrite the kernel so you have to boot into flash mode (or fastboot???) which requires an unlocked bootloader.
I am tempted to flash this though but I'm not exactly ready to unlock my bootloader yet

Oh it can overwrite the kernel alright, but a locked bootloader will only boot kernels signed with Sonys private key, which we can't get.
Rom is very fast
Camera work lag 3 sec on start
Bt work

Hmm is there an easy way to root 4.3 yet? I mightve missed it.

No.
My first Test
Tested just a few minutes now ...
Hardware: C6903 with unlocked BL
wiped everything, flashed Cm11 Experimental and it flashed the full system AND a new kernel "3.4.0cyanogenmod-g8402fcb"
flashed no gapps for now, as this is just a quick test ...
First boot without problems, camera works (little bit unstable but works), wifi works, modem works (tmobile de at full signal)
UI themes to be very fast and stable
RAM-Usage / -free : 754MB / 0,92GB
Internal Storage usage / free : 192MB / 12GB
NFC is on but doesnt seem to work, but not enough tested -> need to have a look on it
Mobile Data (3G AND E) is keeping the modem to reset (signal -> 0 (think it's turned off) and then starts up again with full signal, as 3G or E is displayed it turns off again) if i turn wifi on and no mobile data is active, the signal stays constant (taken a call allready, works fine)
So far ... if mobile data is working, this may be a nice build for "nearly daily test usage" ...
Hello, I just unlocked my Z1 3 days ago and Im testing the new experimental ROM.
I would like to support you by letting you know the problems I realized this ROM has:
1.- data traffic doesnt work and also, if activated, makes you cannot send or receive any calls or sms because it makes the network fail. (I think this is the most important bug).
2.- Locator or GPS doesnt work at all.
3.- Camera works but it takes over 3-4 seconds to start working. Also the video cam make it crashes. Video cam doesnt work at all.
4.- Torch doesnt work nor the app neither when making pictures.
5.- I cannot volume down the music when headphones are connected.
6.- The buzz or sound when you push any icon, app, main manu button, etc, crashed once to me and it sounds so horrible, I had to shut the system down and boot it again to sort it out.
7.- There is no option to make our network works as 2G; there is only option to run as 3G.
8.- I got some problems while trying to restore all my contact I had by copying them from the SIM card and from the SD card; I finally achieved it going to the file explorer and running manually the file which contents the backup of my contacts.
9.- There's no options menu into the screen where are shown all the app's in order to sort them as most used, alphabetically, etc.
NEW ADDED: 10.- It doesnt unmount the SD card or seems like it doesnt.
NEW ADDED (2): 11.- There is no option to save the pictures and videos made with the camera directly in the SD Card. Also no option to move the pictures and videos in the internal storage to the SD Card.
I think the 5 first points are the most important, but the most one is the first one. That's my opinion about preferences.
Anyway, thanks for this new great job.
Im just waiting for an update impaciently.
Regards.
Hey,
I unlocked my boot loader recently and have begun testing the experimental roms. After the previous post I waited until the latest one was released to test it out. I can confirm that the data problems have been resolved and have been using this rom for the past few days.
The main problems I have encountered are:
- Videos within apps such as Facebook or trailers on IMDB play however the picture is corrupted.
- Occasionally apps will randomly close most of the time its the internet browser (no error, it just closes)
- The camera still lags and isn't fluid at all however takes pictures fine.
I think overall there is definitely room for improvement however I have been using it fine for the last few days and it seems quite stable overall.
One problem I did have and I don't know if anyone can help me with it was that I flashed the rom with TWRP however upon rebooting into the new version of CM my recovery was CWM.

CM auto installs CWM as this is what it uses instead of TWRP
I have just moved from a HTC One (which I modded and flashed a lot of ROM's) to Xperia Z1 C6903 but unrooted etc atm
I will be checking things out in the next few weeks or so and see whats out there for my Z1
Just a test build, pre-nightly. Do not install. Early in Feb or March we will have update for KitKat from Sony. Just wait and calm down.
