Sound completely gone (not even factory reset works) - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EDIT: I actually have a galaxy nexus and not nexus 4, I reposted this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38624019
Sorry for this topic, delete if possible, thanks!
It happened after testing/installing the popular "GO Launcher EX" my sound is completely gone. Of course I uninstalled that GO Launcher EX asap but it didn't help.
My problems:
- No sound during music, media, alarm, calling people, etc. The sound is completely gone while the sound volume bars all are maxed.
- I keep hearing small buzz sounds and from time to time "tik tik" sound.
I tried factory reset, didn't work. I tried to update my rom from 4.1 aokp to 4.2.2 , didn't work either.
Is this problem fixable?

Hey!
Didn't work, I tried fac reset/wipe cache etc to install cm10 , same results.
What do you mean by check sound settings? Everything is at max or close to max, I even downloaded some sound manager t make sure all sounds are active.

[Q] Trouble using earphones

Sometimes when I plug my earphones in, the music player shows it as playing, but there's no sound in the earphones. When i remove them, it works fine through the speakers. Tried using different earphones, but same result. Have to restart the phone to be able to use the earphones again.
I have been experiencing this problem since 3 days now.
Has anybody else experienced similar problems? Any solution?
I'm using stock Gingerbread on Moto Defy+.
Please ask all questions in Q&A. Thread moved there.
At first, I see only 2 options, despite trying another ROM:
1 - Try other music players.
2 - Be sure that you haven't changed any option in any Voice Search / Dialer. And if you have changed, try to reset to default options.

Hmn... in tha case, there's still a lot of things to do.
If the problem is with the phone's jack, you can try to clean it with a blow or compressed air.
There's a bunch of apps, like Ringo Pro, that are known to cause some similar issues, as reported in this thread: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/6f261e8427?commentId=564506#564506
After all, if you'r not willing to root and flash other roms in your phone, you might also try bluetooth earphones.

I have n-900. I had the same crackling sound problem coming from the bottom of my phone. I gave it to Samsung Agency they changed the speaker first. Same problem persisted after a few days.
So i gave the phone again and asked for a replacement. Thankfully, they changed the chipset. Now its fine. *Touchwood*

But mine work with Samsung based rom without any issue like this one .
You tried a few AOSP roms, well ain't that cute.
But not once did you read the first posts or a few last posts of the rom thread. If you would, I'm sure you'd found at least a hint on this bug.
And do learn how to Google search !
Sent from my N9005
Had the same problem too, this issue is for all AOSP roms as I see .. but after some restart and charges he go away .. No worries to have man
Same problem. Been having it ever since I installed cm12.1. Most sounds work like they should, but certain apps only crackle. Like, my gf got a vanilla note3,and we both have the game "just get 10". To her, the sound is as it should be. To me it's horrible.
I've been using it ever since the unofficial ports, and been updating nightlies ever since. The problem still persist. If this could be fixed, it would be amazing!
I've also tried the equalizer ports of dsp mamager and audiofx, but no changes whatever I do.
Headphones, and Bluetooth headset works fine.
I too have experienced that allot. And have noticed that it occurs mostly when you use different sound drivers. Like if even on TW you flash beats audio mod or maxx audio you can hear the same crackling.
I suggest you use temasek rom. Its a solid and very stable one.
Hey thanks man, I'll do that
Edit, I've done did it and now everything works flawlessly. It's also a great rom, good battery. Thanks man.
This problem exists in all AOSP based ROMs and after some research I found the solution:
Go to settings -> apps manager -> select google app -> permissions -> disable the microphone permission.
Done
Worked on Galaxy S7 Edge

Problem audio system and vibration (CM11)

Boys suddenly I had this problem, there is no precedent and no operations strange that I made...
In practice, the audio system of my Nexus 4 (OS: Cyanogenmod 11 last nightly 14sept14) will not start: first when the screen was stuck giving audio feedback, now nothing. I do not feel even the incoming calls.
It is not a problem of speaker, if I play a song I can feel it ... the problem is only for the channel "audio system".
Identical problem as regards the vibration (problems manifested simultaneously apparently), only that in this case do not receive the vibration anywhere, even installing app apposite to vibrate.
I tryed to reboot the phone, I reinstalled (reflash) the latest nightly, I checked the settings, I changed the kernel (at the time of mixup was AK Kernel with Synapse, now that the CyanogenMod Kernel)...
What to do?!?!
Thank you all

Try changing the ROM completely, with a full wipe (after you backup of course). Does it still do it?
I was looking for a solution without dat loss...
If by tomorrow I don't find other solution, I will do as you say

There's no loss if you do a backup from recovery.
You just backup, then wipe and install a ROM.
And then, you just restore, and you would have lost nothing

I haven't seen smart pause.. Smart stay and everything else I checked out and it's not causing the problem. I'm hoping it's not a hardware a problem. I'm going to reflash a different rom and see where it gets me.
This also started happening to me after last software update. Dont knownof its the app update or the phone os marshmellow update...

Hmm.. Not sure. All I wanna do is try to reflash rom but that takes a lot of backing up just when everything else is perfect.
Yea thats true. My gallery just started acting up too where half my pics appear to be half grayed out by a vertical bar.
Considering a reflash but to lazy to back up and ensure everything is backed up. Dont wanna miss nothing.

I have same problem. not only music player but also Youtube, Browser. Dıd you find a solution?
Basically I still deal with it. And it's not as bad. I really just want to upgrade to nougat but without xposed.. Nope
I upgraded to nougat. But problem still exists
I had the possibly similar issue
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/audio-randomly-cutting-s7-edge-t3373944/post72126191#post72126191
Type of pause?
How long is pause?
Is it clipping?
Is it at a high volume?
Do you have any type of mono or Bluetooth apps installed?
Are you using WIFI or mobile connection for streaning?
Does it occur at certain locations or everywhere?
*Do you use OK GOOGLE or any similar Voice activated apps?
*Check your NOTIFICATIONS! Try changing SOUND NOTIFICATIONS to VIBRATE for all apps by going into sounds & notif in settings.. Change MODE to vibrate.
*Also try playing in AIRPLANE mode & do not disturb
*Does it occur when streaming to a tv or media device?
With these questions we can rule out various "connectivity" issues or interference as WELL as apps fighting for control over speaker or microphone, for notifications etc. As there are many
You should find the cause as with almost all media streaming apps most have options to go into a do not disturb mode as other apps utilize the same reaources resulting in conflicts like you described! After changing to VIBRATE notification mode and/or AIRPLANE mode, it becomes just a matter of narrowing down offending app.. Until then it will work at least!
HOPE THIS HELPS! There r days I need help! too
I had same problem and ı thought this problem can be related to an app ı installed. And it was. When i uninstalled Sputnik news. My problem had gone. If u have it, uninstal. If u dont have, may be one of other app causes. Try uninstalling each app, and find the app causes this problem

Do you have bluetooth enabled? I have an issue that I've seemed to track down to the bluetooth that after connecting and then disconnecting my alert sounds will play very softly. A safe boot will fix it but annoying what I have to reset when I do that.

Yes, I use Bluetooth, but I'm thinking that isn't the problem, a did everything I can, format the SD, format the SD in the PC, format the SD in another phone, factory reset, reboot, disable Play Music, shut down my Bluetooth, everything, and the problem still, sometimes it's fix alone for a limited time, and then came back... Only sound I get is streaming videos and the call Ringtone...

Well, that's what I've narrowed the problem down on my phone to. If I leave bluetooth off, the issue doesn't happen. But I need bluetooth so I leave it on. All I can figure is that there is a bug with the bluetooth software when it interacts with the alert volume when connecting and disconnecting.
