A simple CM 10.1 JB 4.2.2 Volume MOD - Galaxy Note II General

Simple way to increase your volume.
Im pretty sure you won't brick your phone but please do this at own risk I take no responsibility for your actions.
Make sure you are on a rooted device lol how else would you have 4.2.2.
Download the file
If file name is to3g.txt rename it to to3g
Copy file with a file manager ( I use ES with root permission)
Go to /system/ect/sound
Delete the file called to3g
And click paste and the new one should by magic appear.
Change permissions (hold you finger on the file) to rw r- r- ( mine looks like this rw r--r--
And then delete the new file to3g.bak if it appeared. If It didn't then you should still be OK so long as you did all steps.
Reboot and hey your phones louder.
Get noozxoide Eizo rewire pro and you have a loud kick ass phone again.

What you did was change sound file to go above 50/55 to 63 there for making it louder. If you get the noozoxide app that will then help with equalization of the volume and more.

system notifications

I see my system notifications are stored in /system/media/notifications but even with root Im not able to drop a new file withing this directory. I would like to do this because Handcent doesnt give me the option to select a different directory.
Any suggestions on either dropping a new sound file in the /system/media dir or using a custom sound file for Handcent?
Thanks
You should be able to put something in /sdcard/media/notifications
You have to mount system with root explorer, ADB, etc. It's read only by default.

I've tried a root file manager without success. Is it possible to change the directory permissions using ADB?

If you use root explorer, there is a little button in the upper right that toggles read write permissions.
Sweet
For the next person, I can confirm this does work, you just need to make sure the permissions are correctly set on each file and the phone (or SMS) app needs to be restarted to take effect.
Thanks everyone.
P.S. I hope you guys get a commission!

[Guide] How to disable stock camera shutter sound on your X10!

Some people with certain branded x10 handsets (like those on T-Mobile UK) do not have the option to have no shutter sound in the stock camera app, this very short guide will tell you how to disable it.
You must be rooted to be able to do this, although, if you do not wish to keep your phone rooted, you can temporarily root your phone using z4root, then follow this short guide, and phone will no longer be rooted after phone restarted.
First of all (after root) you need to download root explorer ($3.87 / £2.50) from the market.
Alternatively, if you do not want to buy root explorer you can download ES File Explorer for free, but to enable root access, you must do the following...
1) Open ES File Explorer
2) Press menu, then press Settings
3) Scroll down to Root Options
4) Check the box next to Root Explorer then press Yes, then press OK
5) You now have root access using ES File Explorer
For users using stock 2.1 that cannot disable the shutter sound, do the following...
1) Open your chosen file manager (Root explorer or ES File Manager)
2) Go to.... /system/media/audio/camera
3) You should see sound1, sound2 & sound3
4) In each folder, delete shutter.ogg (or you can rename .ogg to something else incase you want to restore it at a later time)
5) You should now have no shutter sound
To disable shutter sound on stock camera for custom ROMs on 2.2+, do the following...
1) Go into root explorer (or ES File Manager)
2) Go to... /system/media/audio/ui
3) Delete camera_click.ogg (or you can rename it like i did incase you want it at a later date
Hope this helps the people frustrated with the shutter sound lol
Now we need someone to post a list of alternate sounds so we can experiment.

change the .ogg file extension to something like .dog - that should fool it
If you leave the files as .ogg it will just play any sound in the folder if it can't find the one it's looking for

Nah it's cool.
The easiest (and probably most people did it) way to remove this is by updating the FW to 2.1.B.0.1.
There's an option there to disable camera shutter sound.
Well I now have a Desire HD so I no longer use my X10, which explains why I don't go on these sections of the forum often, and I don't know the latest firmware releases

Disable camera sound on Samsung Galaxy S II running ICS 4.0.3

1 - use Root Explorer to open /system/build.prop file (open in text editor)
2- add " ro.camera.sound.forced=0 " in the bottom of the file (ps: dont include " ")
3- save and exit ,
4- reboot you phone
after booted,
if you want to disable the camera sounds (shot sound and focus sound), just changed the system sound to silent or vibrate.
you will get a no-sounds camera.
I m using ICS and it is working
odlicno!
Awesome. Tnkz!
im running ICS 4.0.4 with Hydrogen mod
AOIK 3.0.28 kernel and have an option under sound to turn camera sound off
Take a look at that option i know resurrection mod has same option
I dont have an ICS device but on my gb device I just renamed (mv) the shutter sound file and there was no more sound when I take pictures... It should be the same for ics. use an adb shell or terminal emulator on the device to "find / -name *.ogg" and you'll figure it out. You will need root to mv the file as well as to use the find command (I am not sure if you need to install bbusybox for find).
Awesome. Thanks!

! EDIT found out why and how. Worked as a charm. Thanks
With ES File Explorer I can browse /system/ and open build.prop in txteditor, but I can't save it (denied) ... any idea why?
ES File Explorer isn't in SuperUses app list ... do I need to add it (and if how)?

Thanks....
If on any stock ICS rom, if you just set your phone to silent or vibrate it will eliminate the these sounds. No need to root or edit the build.prop

Any solution to totally disable the camera sound ?
Search on the forum, found several tips but it's not working on ICS 4.03 (XWLP7).
Thanks.
Just tried this trick, but I'm now stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy S2 - GT-I9100" boot screen. Ben there for serveral minutes, trying to remove batterye right now.
Nothing else changed between my previous reboot earlier today than editing this build.prop...

So I'm not the only one... Any way to access/edit the build.prop when booting in CWM recovery or download mode?
edit: reflashed with LP8, and this time I did the build.prop edit with a dedicated tool from the market (and not ES Explorer, which uses charsets not correctly interpreted by Unix). Works like a charm

I can confirm that on both xqlp7 and xwlp8 this does not work.
Part of the solution is dumping all sound files you find annoying (shutter, power connect, etc) but the super irritating LOUD focus beep is hardwired in the camera software, so it seems. I wish there was a simple hack for that!
it's working as charmed.. will settings after rom update stay or should I renew settings after every flash procedure?

My device and SDCARD was encypted, got the bootloop and had to use ODIN to get back -lost everything. I too used ES Explorer to edit-
Guess I should read instructions better
anyway- Beware, like CoinCoin says -don't use ES Explorer to edit.
When you're rooted, you can delete or rename the following files:
/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
/system/media/audio/ui/camera_focus.ogg
/system/media/audio/ui/VideoRecord.ogg
yeah but I like the camera the way it is (basicly, I like stock things )... I just don't want it to make a noise when the phone is set to vibrate/silent. When it's on general, I'm not bothered by sounds.
The ogg files removal is an edit for all modes, whereas this tweak is just to get it working as it should.

BETTER SOUNDS (Replace your touch) SPEN TOO

Tired of your "Water Drop" Touch Wiz sound.
Follow these instructions to replace them with what I use.
Let me know what you want and I will try and find it. Will add more.....
1. Touch sound. (Simple and nice)
2. Back sound (Sick and Nice)
3. Lock sound (Sweetness)
4. Just added Unlock sound (Sword) https://www.dropbox.com/s/13ry8kt3di0ebgr/UnlockSword1.zip
To install please follow these instructions below. I do this with every ROM I flash.
1.Download the zip and extract to your SD card.
(Create a folder called UI Sounds or whatever you like, and put the three files in there)
2.Use Root Browser or ROM TOOLBOX PRO.
3.While in Root Browser go to your SD card (UI Folder) and select your first file "TW_Touch" copy it
4.Now jump to the root of your phone. System/Media/Audio/UI then paste your file there. Hit yes to Overwrite.
5.Go ahead and back out of that screen but go right back and change permissions to match (rw--r--r)
(It wont let me change permissions unless I hit back then go back there)
6.Do the same for the next two files
7.Reboot
8.Thats it, let me know what y'all think. I love these sounds way better.
CHANGE YOUR SPEN SOUNDS TOO

Warning: This is a root procedure that involves modifying system files and could potentially harm your phone. Do this at your own risk, and XDA and myself are not responsible for any damages caused or any limbs removed with the S Pen turned lightsaber.
Download the two files > https://app.box.com/shared/e5bg08plfbt14xtzcaru

Rename them if you need to (the Note III has 3 different sound options,
rename the file with a number 1-3 depending on which sound you want to replace, default is 1)
Use a root enabled file manager (Root Explorer, ES, Solid, etc.) to navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
Find the files you want to replace (Pen_att_noti1.ogg and Pen_det_noti1.ogg but with your chosen number)
and rename them by adding a .bak to the end (make sure to use a keyboard with no auto correct, or it’ll change the file name)
Copy and paste the downloaded files into /system/media/audio/ui
Change their permissions (long hold > Properties in most file managers) to rw- r– r– or 644

No problem Drunkmunky. How are you liking the sounds? I'm in the process of making some more.
Maybe some really short electric sounds or something cool like that.
I like the sounds. Like you I was getting tired of the default sounds.
Do you know how to change the S-PEN sound when you remove it and reinstall?
Thanks !

Have you ever wanted to be a Jedi master at work, but your boss didn’t appreciate you bringing in your replica lightsaber? We have an excellent solution for Galaxy Note II owners. This small mod will change the sound your device makes when taking out and putting in the S Pen to those of a lightsaber. Trust us, you’ll definitely feel cooler taking out your S Pen this way.
Warning: This is a root procedure that involves modifying system files and could potentially harm your phone. Do this at your own risk, and DroidDog is not responsible for any damages caused or any limbs removed with the S Pen turned lightsaber.
