+ HTC gallery Auto Enhance:
The rest all are Auto Enhanced, as you can see all washout is gone as the black / white levels are cropped by this built-in feature
HTC should be done with this and simply include a default auto "Auto Enhance" apply feature

more about HTC Auto Enhance from my One X post here
Now Jonathan's Image are perfect example of why you need HDR which he did not use, the sky is over cast if you place the exposure in the sky the ground willl be dark and if you place it on the ground like he did the sky will washout
i have no doubt the results would have been much better with HDR or Backlight used
here is an example of HDR use in an overcast scene from my One X, like all reviewers stated (except phone and gsm arena) since the One X HTC has the best HDR on a phone

@vegetaleb why? i can do the exact same results with my One X excellent HDR feature already (but not in video)
In fact i have tons of pictures i use to impress my friend with the One X of the exact same situation (cant share pictures of my wife )

Yup, some pictures taken by OEMs are using proper conditions, doesn't suit the average user
I think the problem that many of you did not try the amazing camera on the One X
auto focus, crazy fast shutter speed and perfected HDR were the highlights, amazing daylight ability
the only weakness was the piss poor low light image quality (not the light which was good but the quality of the low light image)
also macro focus distance was not so great

just to show you that these bloggers/reviewers don't even try
if you check the images i took with my desire HD (in the signature) you will be more impressed
like i said HTC gives you tons of photographic control in the camera app, so really if you expect to pull the phone, take a shot with a shaky hand, not even try to improve it in the included gallery enhance features and expect to win a noble prize in photography, look elsewhere...
that being said if HTC did ruin their One X quality and color balance i would be pissed, so far i like what i am seeing, low light clean less noisy image was really the only thing missing
one more thing, i do worry about is the reported heavy using of JPEG compression being reported by testers

Ah, so bad! xD
Soooo much noise and artifact in those shots, resolved detail not very good either.
That said, looks like HTCs best camera ever (apart from perhaps the Mozart with its Xenon Flash, but I haven't seen many examples from that handset yet).
I think that mobile phones' cameras are not for the ones who are obsessed with photo quality.
I am sure long years I will prefer to carry a DSLR camera even though I have got a 8 mp camera integrated phone.
i agree buying a phone based on its camera is silly, the only time i have ever used my phone camera was when i got a parking ticket so i took photos of the signage and my car wrote a letter to the council and got off without having to pay
if i know im going to take photos i just take my DSLR

More photos..............
Any chance in taking an evening shot (sunset/sunrise) without flash.
Also if possible another two low light shots with and without flash (basically the same shot for comparison on how well the camera handles low lighting with & without a flash).
Cheers.
Ouch those shots are really poor in terms of quality, noise, too strong noisereduction, chromatic abberation and hell everything.
I'm afraid Nokia N8 wins this round.

You don't need to be obsessed with photo quality to demand more from your mobile phone camera than the Desire HD is offering though. For many of us the camera is quite an important consideration because day to day photography with our phones is part of our regular use (most of us don't carry a DSLR all the time, eh?). Its nice to have shots that are 'good enough' for that kind of casual photography, and many other non-HTC phones offer that.
I won't, and haven't ever, based a decision to buy a phone solely on the camera, but certainly its a consideration, more important for some of us than others (but you can't dictate to others how they come to a decision to get a phone or not).
Hi ,
can you please tell me , how to improve camera quality in Nexus 4 please.
Buy a camera.
No really, what do you expect to really "improve"? It's a smartphone camera.
Though had you tried to search you would've noticed a thread that kind of improves the quality slightly (never tested it myself)
But please don't expect to make good pictures, it will remain a smartphone camera
Well ok, might be I'm wrong - can't find a thread for that
But I do recall something that said to improve camera - could've been video capturing though

I like the hdr effect in the stock app have you tried it yet?
There are some good photography apps in the appstore you can try
the truth is the camera hardware is not that great on the nexus 4.
always remember that to take a great photo it doesnt necessarily always need a good camera

quality is fine. its on your end that you will have to improve photo taking. make sure there is plenty of light for the photo that you want to take, or it will come out blurred. play with the camera settings if need be.

I agree my comment was rather not helpful but you have to admit: Nexus 4 camera is known to be mediocre at best. You can make good pictures with plenty of light, especially with HDR - but nevertheless the camera won't make really good pictures. (Way better pictures than Desire HD 8MP camera though but that's not really a surprise)
To try to be helpful: I still recall some thread where someone changed some files to improve quality of photos and or videos. But I can't even find it anymore :silly:
Just to show what I see as a good picture by Nexus 4, here's a picture of two rainbows And a nice picture of the sun.
But as example for a bad picture: the cockpit of the Mercedes Benz Sprinter, which was taken while there was no light and this picture really looks bad

Well, one small suggestion would be that you could mount it on a small tripod or other device that you can carry around. That would help stabilize it, so the photos and videos aren't as shaky.
Today I tested canera performance on my Z3 and my brother's Moto G (2014). The result scared me a little. I hope it's just me who thought the moto G ones were more vivid... what do u guys think?

It looked more like the z3's pics. The Moto saturation is a little high.
Yes, sadly.
Try the Camera FV-5 apk. Not that any particular app makes the pictures look better but it gives you a DSLR complete control feel to it. Also the Aviary apk (free) has some nice simple touch ups for pictures.
via att d6603
Whats wrong with the pics?
The Moto pictures look as said saturated blurred and low in quality.
The camera of the Z3 is the best one I ever had. Even in low light enviroment it makes awesome pics.
Compare some pics in the evening when u are watching tv with lights out and be happy to have a phone with such an awesome cam.
The Cam and the Display are the 2 things that keeps me away from installing CM.
If u want more colors play a bit around with the special effects f.e. hdr.

So, I wasn't there but this is what I interpret the pictures as.
The Moto G pics aren't really over-saturated, they just lack dynamic range (difference between dark vs light areas). They essentially tuned the sensor so that if this sort of thing happens, it chooses the brighter side of the scene. The leaves and darker areas can't be recorded as dark as they actually were, so it chooses to make the overall picture just brighter. Sony does a much better job of capturing the light areas such as the concrete and also the darker shades and leaves. The other difference is white balance, the Sony chose something a little cooler, and the Moto warmer. Without being there, tough to say which is more accurate but from the pics I'd say the Sony got it right.
Easy fix, force the Sony to overexpose or use something like pixlr to boost exposure.
Second picture is much of the same, the thing that jumps out is the red colors. In the moto it looks orange, in the Z it looks much more red. Again, if I had to guess the Z got it right.
Now, this is all great with plants, rocks, and garden hoses, but what happens when you take a picture of people? Those Moto pics are going to look off, like people's faces look like cake and lack the proper color it needs.
Z3 is easily better if you know how to use a camera

Thats kind of the while point of "point and shoot". I should be fiddling with settings when im trying to capture that moment. Superior auto setting is an absolute garbage
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Xposed module changes superior auto to 20.7 mp makes a big difference
Seriously what is wrong with you guys.
Have you ever used an high quality cam?
In every shop there are phones where you can test them.
There are more tests in the net as you could ever read in your lifetime.
So if you don't like it don't buy it.
Should sound familiar as an iPhone user xD
Have just done a few shots but I'm sure you can save your favorite settings.
If this is too mich work to do I would suggest to sell your Z3 and buy an Moto or similar and stop annoying us.
I personally think the z3 camera is one of the best out there not hard to use manual mode
Sorry. I should've quoted the person who said that that he prefeerd the more vibrant colors over the more accurate. I meant that if you want it more vibrant you should edit it so and let the original photo be correct.
I use 8MP on manual it does well, it's just "Superior Auto" that sucks.

Even though they say it's not final, they've had quite a while to work on improving the camera. I doubt much will change between now and a few weeks.

Even though they say it's not final, they've had quite a while to work on improving the camera. I doubt much will change between now and a few weeks.

Opinions, in order to be valid, need to be based on fact.
M9 camera software is still a work in progress. It has been improving steadily. Algorithms are updated almost daily.

The indoor shots I've seen show a lot of noise reduction and sharpening, making the photos look heavily processed

Well hopefully some of the issues are software related.
Barcelona at night - shot with the HTC M9
Source: Twitter/ https://twitter.com/chrisch1974
There are huge variations in the above photos. Probably because there may have been differences in software and possibly because some of the reviewers are bad photographers. Especially some of the Verge photos show that the guy (that called the phone a beautiful disappointment) did not know how to take proper photos.
Some of the photos are very good, some bad. I believe that HDR will be needed in many cases and I'm not optimistic about low light photos.
I think that we will see many people using the front camera to take pictures during the night.
I still want to see some proper photo review with the latest software.
An album full of images taken with an HTC One M9 (non-final software). Looks pretty good to me...

Dunno why but it looks like taken by the Marketing team of HTC, compared to the other samples we saw, it's like 3x time better, so it's either after lot of manual optimal settings or taken in RAW.
BTW why we still don't have any RAW photo sample?
Perhaps, we'll see... Software optimization can really change a lot. I remember how bad the Nexus 5 camera was at the beginning and after the first updates the quality improved a lot.
Here's what Anandtech said about the M9 camera/photos after their quick hands on. The pictures posted in the article look ok.
http://anandtech.com/show/9012/htc-launches-one-m9-handson
"In casual testing, I saw a dramatic improvement in daytime image quality, and features like HDR as seen above are dramatically improved from the One M8. In general there seem to be fewer issues with things like field curvature and other types of optical distortion along with drastically improved dynamic range, but in low light the results I saw were indicative of poor processing and tuning. HTC representatives stated that the camera tuning, especially in low light were far from final so it remains to be seen if these issues remain in the final product. It seems that the ImageChip 2 has also been deleted from the M9, although the reasons for this are not clear".

Do you guys know if the "ufocus" effect isn't available anymore with the m9? Or is Still in there ??

It 'always there but must be set before shooting, you can not put after as with the M8
I will be interesting to see how the auto focus works compared to the M8 as there is no phase detection like its predecessor. Though the M8 was no slouch in this regard.
Hi there,
So according to Sony the new camera is suppose to be something out of this world. but due to the horrible performance. I had my iphone 4's photos side by side with my z3c and I couldn't tell the difference for most. Therefore, I am very skeptical about what the new camera actually offers.
Another major issue for me was the flash on the phone. Since my first phone with a flash I found it very useful to have as a flash light. the Z3c however was a major disappointment in that area as my old iphone 4 outperforms it by far.
So what I'd like to see is a few photos from the z5c (night time aswell with flash).
Also, I'd like to hear your opinions regarding the new camera/flash and how well they performs

Dude, did you even search on google? Lots of samples pictures there. And yes its much better because the z3c camera is pretty ****.
But if you llke at them samsung note 5 pictures it will crap on the new Z5 phone.... just look at the samples http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4523/4953454/1/rv/sony-xperia-z5-compact-review/
Look at these camera samples:
http://www.xataka.com/analisis/sony-xperia-z5-compact-analisis
in my opinion it looks so good. I think eprice had a pre-production model or something like this.
The images are so noisy, I wish someone did a one inch sensor, my 808 still takes way better pictures than all of these.
Someone on reddit (hehihohu) posted this album and this video.
I think it's not better than the S6 but it's definetively a top 5 camera in my opinion.

Yeah not bad at all, I will wait a bit more though and see if they release it in my country, and if not then I'll import it
If I compare a zoomed photo between the Z5 and the LG G4 or Samsung S6, I can see a poor quality coming from the Z5.
For instance, I'm talking about the 2nd sample from this link. Go to the chart called "Xperia Z5 vs Z3 vs 6 Plus vs S6 vs G4 indoor camera samples", then find the 2nd group of pictures. Double click on the candle with the label that says "REWINED" (in order to zoom the photo) and compare the quality between the Z5 and the G4/S6.

However, what If we use another camera, like "Google Camera"? I would love to see how the Z5 family work with that camera and know if the quality improves or dimish.

It looks very good, but there is blurring on the top left of every photo (top right in portrait) probably because of misaligned lens. Sony needs to fix their QC problems.
Everything else looks fantastic.
Here are some pictures I just took using z5c stock camera app:

Thanks for that info!
The "Stock Camera" seems to be a bit better than the "Google camera".
However both cameras are nice for me.
There is one thing with the Google camera that i don't understand. The "Size".
If you compare the first sample, there is a big difference in the size (969KB vs 2,67MB).
P.S.: Did you try "HDR" (if available) in the Google Camera?

When looking at the settings in Google Camera, I can only use 8.3 MP for the back camera. Save location is off and there is no option for HDR.

Thanks, I just sent this information using the "Feedback" function within the app. I hope is just something that can be fixed with an app update (something like "add support for Z5 phones" ).
Are there manual camera settings available in the Sony camera app or via a 3rd party app? Especially manual shutter speed selection??

Excellent pics! Have you used Auto mode or some jedi tricks?
According to Xperia blog, the Z5 series was tested by DxOMark and found to be the best overall mobile camera they have tested to date (beating S6, Note series, iPhone 6 plus, etc):
