I'm not sure why this happens, and therefore I'm posting this here.

So, notification bar and navigation bar get transparent when using home screen, for some reason. I'm not sure does Nova Launcher or some setting on AOKP do this. They revert back to black when using any app. It looks nice on lock screen, but not so nice on the home screen, as you can see from the screenshot.
I did search for this, but didn't find anything, so I thought that someone here could help me to disable it. :highfive:
I'm using AOKP, Nova Launcher and Franco Kernel.
I dont know how to turn it off, but for the ugliness on the homescreen, turn of shadows in apex settings>Homescreen

Thanks for this, but it really doesn't take away the problem :/ I would just wanna get solid theme.
I also noticed that if I put transparency to my application menu, it will show transparent bars too.

I'm sorry, then I can't help anymore. I don't own this device so I don't have enough experience. :/

The transparency is set by the rom. To change it just change the opacity in ROM Control for both the navigation and notification bars.
The transparency only really works in the launcher (home pages, lock screen and app drawer). Apps don't draw behind the navigation or notification bars (there's no background behind the bars) hence they only show as black. At least that's my understanding of how it works.
Edit: To disable transparency set the opacity to 100%.

Hmm, I couldn't find the right toggles from the settings, could you write the route to the right one? I tried multiple toggles but none seemed to work.. maybe they were just the wrong ones.
I noticed this when I went to aokp build 4. I found that setting the transparency setting to 50% matched the homescreen
Rom control -> General UI -> Transparency Settings
give that a go and see if it works

Thanks for this! Seems weird that 0 alpha means full transparency, and 255 alpha means no transparency at all. Normally in colours 255 is the lightest and 0 darkest. Anyhow, the problem is now solved :victory:

I've noticed something strange happening on my Nexus 4:
When I set a wallpaper that's not live (any of the standard wallpapers that ship with the phone) and pull down my notification bar, the wallpaper under the pull down bar tends to shift from a detailed background to a more simple background (in regards to the amount of lines shown in the picture and edges), and then switches back. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this right, but if you can, set your background to a stock non-live wallpaper, pull down the notification bar, and see if your background image glitches out and changes quality. Most, if not all, of the wallpapers I've used have had this happen, and even if I pull down the notification bar in the app drawer the apps underneath the pull down menu glitch out and change their look/contrast/brightness... I don't know what it is.
Is this a known bug, or is my phone defective?

Are you sure you aren't just seeing the transparency effect of the notification pulldown or appdrawer background? Post a screenshot of a before/after if you can.
That is the one thing I would like. I currently have NOVA launcher. I like it because you can theme the icons and such but now I have the black status bar and black navi bar as well. In the stock launcher there is an option to make them both transparent. What am I missing?

I'm wondering the same thing. I've gone back to LG's launcher for this reason. Hopefully the ROM gods will add this as an option to add on.
I was going to come post the same thing. I just applied auto-hide soft keys and was wondering if this was an option. Using Nova and I pinch to bring the status bar and knock on to sleep on the status bar as well.
Love this phone by the way - obligatory
Is there any way to modify the notification bar. Can I remove the toggles from the top of the bar? Is there any way to remove the brightness slider? Is there any way to change the colors used in the notification bar? Green on blue maybe the worse combinations of colours that Samsung could have chosen. Also is the any way to change the scale of the items in the bar? With a phone this size the icons really shouldn't as big as they are.
Well if you are rooted install the xposed framework found in this forums and then the wanam xposed from the play store it just made everything easier in order to edit you whole system, you just need some time to understand every setting

-settings>device>notification panel>brightness adjustment unchecked
-You can change the notification bar to be transparent of you install nova prime launcher.
-For rest it is doable if you are rooted and installed custom ROM.

Hello.
I just flashed the aliencce rom to my gs5 and for a little while I liked it. But I played with the settings and now my status bar is only showing the clock and a red bar above that and I want to have the Neoral look but I have tried changing the settings to default but nothing works and also even changing the theme.
Thank you for your help.
Sorry, can't answer this, but I would bring this up on the alliance thread, someone will surely help you there
Same thing happened to me, it's the status bar transparency setting. Setting / Custom Settings / Statusbar and Toggles / Statusbar Options / Make sure the slider is all the way to the right. restart UI (I go back to signal / wifi options.. restart ui is on the bottom).
Thanks I fixed it by playing around more lol. But I think that is the main issue is the transparency
My 7 mini does this annoying thing where the home screen and notification tray brighten and dim or change slight tones in color - I can't tell exactly which. It only does it on my home screen , if I slide down notifications in any app the the color of the tray stays the same. Anyone else have an issue like this?
The notification tray changes color depending on the colors of the wallpaper. That's not an issue, if that's what you mean.

Thanks but that's not what I mean. If I swipe down the notification tray changes tone in color. If I swipe down again to show all quick settings it changes color again. If I swipe up once back to just notifications , it changes color again. Finally, if I go home the same effect happens on my wallpaper. Same thing happens if I swipe up to open app drawer.

Oh, I see what you mean. I noticed this a long time ago and it didn't bother me. Unfortunately, you'll have to live with it. Perhaps, it only works with some colors, though. My panel is green right now and it's not darkening/brightening when I pull down quick settings as usual. Try using a wallpaper with a different color instead.
