I had stock Android 4.3 and wanted to get USB OTG to have more space using powered USB.
I first downloaded and installed Nexus root toolkit 1.6.6 and Unlocked the boot loader and then rooted the phone (pre -requisites for loading ziddey-otg-r165-07291101. zip)
All went well.
I am at Android 4.3 and rooted and then I went to recovery (TWRP) and then selected Install and selected the .zip that I downloaded from XDA.
Boom!
I tried to reboot the phone and ever since stuck in the start up screen just displaying the google icon for nearly 15 minutes. Did i just manage to brick my phone? Please help!
Also I am currently using the same toolkit to re-install factory stock Nexus 4 Android 4.3
Will the ziddey-otg-r165-07291101.zip not work at android 4.3? Please help any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Sandy
This zip is not supported with Android 4.3.

3 solutions
You can ether re flash stock 4.3 kernel
Or 2 you can flash any rom or stock android version and u can install the ROM from side loader in recovery
3 you can try to wipe data factory reset from recovery and cache partition vs dalvik cache
Just keep flashing Roms don't stop trying
Solved
Thanks guys. I was able to re-load stoc 4.3 and all looks good now. Still awaiting the OTg for the 4.3 and following ziddey's thread for the hack.
OTG not workin
I am running on CM10.2 with my Nexus 4. I have bought an OTG Y cable and flash kernel from Ziddey and... constant bootloop
Hello guys,
Unfortunatelly I installed the wrong kernel (franco kernel, milestone, actually only for 4.2.2) on my Nexus 4. (Before installing the kernel: updated to 4.3, then rooted, flashed paranoidandroid rom).
Now the device seems to be bricked, I have a bootloop. I still have access to the fastboot/recovery mode. I dont have any working kernel data on my phones memory.
Can you please help me how I get a working kernel again or how I can fix the problem?
Thank you!
Dan
The device is not bricked if you're able to access fastboot/recovery. A bricked device is when the phone CANNOT get into bootloader or recovery.
Just wipe factory settings, dalvik, cache (just wipe swipe if you're using TWRP) then reflash the Paranoid Android ROM, gapps and then reboot and it'll load.

I have loads of pics on my phone and have the same problem. Will I lose any of those?
After wipe u will lose all your data. But if you have turned on the picture sync with Google+ you get it back. Or u flash the ROM again without data wipe. (In not 100% sure if this could brake something)

Just flash the correct franco.kernel.img file in fastboot mode or if you can get in custom recovery, flash the zip. You wont loose anything. :fingers-crossed:
Hi all,
For the past few days I've been trying to flash new ROMs. I'm a noon but have previously flashed probably 100 times with no problems at all.
Ive stuck with psx for about 3 months and live it, but as updates for the ROM have become a hasstke to get, I thought I'd try something else, but this time move on to KitKat custom ROMs instead of 4.3.
Now here's the problem. I'm doing everything the same as I usually would, d/l ROM, appropriate gapps, use latest twrp, factory reset, flash and then..... FAILED update : ( : ( Now I am a noobso am I missing something big time???, do I need to completely wipe phone when flashing from 4.3 to KitKat??, pls help, I'm sick to death of going through the fail/restore process
Thanks in advance : )
Are you updating the bootloader and radio when moving from 4.3 to 4.4? Did you try formatting the system before installing?
I transitioned from jellybean to KitKat too yesterday and had that same problem. From what i remember, what I did was when I got that failed update message in twrp, i first clicked home, then click reboot, then select to recovery. It should then warn you're about to reboot w/out a ROM/system. I swiped yes. Then it should prompt u to install supersu. Go ahead and swipe yes. It should then reboot u back to recovery and u can proceed to do your normal install routine. Now I'm adjusting myself to KitKat life!

I had that problem flashing ROMs with TWRP as well. I had to unmount the system, then everything flashed successfully!
Use cwrm instead , brotha from another motha twrp has issues with kitkat

You need a custom boot image for kitkat
Hi there!
It would appear that my tablet is dead. I wiped the system partition in TWRP, expecting it to restore it to it's factory default (I edited the build.prop, and couldn't update using sideload, OTA, or install zip).
I need help, what do I do. TWRP says that there is no OS installed, so what do I do. I have a backup that includes /system, but will that do? I want to update to 4.4.2 from 4.4. I want to get rid of root, and all the changes to build.prop and any other changes made to my device, then flash stock recovery and lock the bootloader.
Download the toolkit boot into fastboot and install 4.4.2 via the toolkit and then unroot also via the toolkit.

No but i know it's really easy to return to stock thanks to nexus 4 root toolkit.
Now i select my phone as bricked (but i only wiped all and rebooted in fastboot mode) and i download the 4.2.0 factory image
It's secure?
