Best HD Contact restore app - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Up to date I have been using HD Contact however it seems as if the quality the app saves is worse than if you just edit a picture and have it store it as a contact picture. Is there any apps that will store the photos like they should be?

Try Sync.ME. It saves all contact pictures in HD (from facebook).

I'm pretty sure you can use Titanium Backup (or similar app) to backup the People app and it will save the contact images as well. Then you can save/transfer that backup file to other/the same phone (i.e. after wiping).

Don't they sync to Google in high-res now? They do for me.

Replace them with high-res ones. Either on the web in gmail or the people app. They will sync high-res in the future.

ICS Poor quality contact display picture

Hi guys,
Ive got a nexus s running ICS. The problem I have is that as I keep my contacts sync with gmail, the display picture of the contacts is very poor! some of them are so bad that its difficult to tell who he/she is.
Can anyone please help me fix this problem? I have read some forums and people have commented that this is fixed in ICS but clearly it isnt as I still have the same issue.
Thank you
Saud
There is an app called haxsync on the market. It syncs your Facebook photos to the contacts, and they look great

It's caused by syncing with Google contacts. There's nothing you can do aside from syncing with Facebook (which AFAIK, suffers the same problem).

thanks for the quick reply.
Im not really a facebook user. Are there any other alternatives? I usually get my photos from picasa. Is there anyway I can get them higher quality?

Only way is to add them in manually on a contact by contact basis via gallery.

or you can back-up them by Titanium backup, and then restore. Quality will be the same.

They really do look fantastic but contact pictures that were taken with the camera still look awful
But haxsync really does make a gigantic difference

This is true. If you manually assign contact pictures AFTER your contacts have been synced, they will stay hi res. A PITA, but it works.
an alternative is Friendcaster that has an option that allows the use of high resolution images, it is also best of the original facebook app.
Is there any alternative app for non-facebook users?
I would hope so, but afaik there isn't any.

Synced phone - 2 pictures in gallery of mine. Where are they stored?

I synced my new Nexus 4 tonight. It has 2 photos of mine that showed up. I took one of these photos years ago I think. It's of an ex g/f and I'd like to remove it, but I can't find a way to delete it. They have the Picasa logo next to them, but I went to Picasa's website and their is only an option to download the software.
I need to find it before my g/f does lol

[Q] Any apps that can read and send sms from other android device?

Is there an application that can read and send SMS from other Android devices, let say Xperia sola, and that I can read in my Nexus 7? I have searched the Play store and none that I have found or something I have missed. A help from you guys will be highly appreciated.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Not that I know of, but try downloading Air Droid on your phone and rather then going to the website on your computer go on it using your tablet. Should work, but you'll have to be on your browser in order to see your SMS and what not. Just throwing out ideas
That might be good. But reading and sending SMS might keep be handy. Thanks. Still anyone?

I use cloud SMS to send and receive SMS on my N7. Costs .99 and you install it on your phone and tablet. There are others that uses Bluetooth also.

I use cloud sms also. The developer did all the beta testing right here in the N7 forum for theming and apps, which I was fortunate to be a part of. The transport is via internet. Works wonderfully.
Tablet sms is also available on the market. Higher price, and the two devices must be on the same wifi network.

I'm using mysms (I guess e.e. cummings named it) on my phone and mysms Tablet on my Nexus. I believe they sync through the cloud, but however they do it, I have exactly the same SMS send and receive abilities on both devices. Unlike some other solutions, it uses my existing phone number.
I use tablet sms. It was a little higher price but IMO, it was worth it after trying just about every other one out there.
It can sync via wifi or bluetooth. I use bluetooth.
I can send and receive sms from the tablet and they still show up on my phone. I can receive picture messages on the tab with tablet sms. cant send pics with it yet though.
Setup was really easy for me, it has a nice pop up option so when you are browsing on the tab, your sms will pop up if you choose and you can reply right there without exiting whatever app you were in and carry on when you are done.
I got mysms it syncs all messages you have on your phone, and you can send as well, works really well I haven't had no problems.

Mighty Text.
Works great.
Use desksms for your phone and tabletsms for your tablet. Its 5$ per year with a 2 week trial. I use it on my tablets. It syncs through Google so as long as you're connected to WiFi you're good. Real quick too.

Ditto. Just had a whole convo last night with my hubby while I was babysitting. Phone was charging and my outlet wasn't nearby so I used Tablet Talk. It also has the option to connect via Blue tooth, if you're somewhere not connected to WiFi.

It's my understanding that MySMS has a Chrome extension, too, so you're able to text on your computer as well.

Contact photos

So this is my return to android after some time and I'm trying to get my device all setup. One of my biggest pet peeves about Android was the terrible resolution of the contract photos.
I have Facebook and installed the app. I went through the sync procedures to get the contacts matched up and noticed that the photos look terrible. But, I have one contact that had a gorgeous hd pic. I don't understand what is different about his contact info but why can I do to fix the test of them?

Suggest you turn off the contact sync in the FB app and install Haxsync.
I second the poster above. Download Haxsync and make sure to check the 'use high resolution photos' option.

Nexus 4 Facebook sync

Hi All
I would like to know how to sync my contacts with Facebook. I need the profile pictures as contacts' picture.
Thanks for the help in advance

best sync app i know of
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ro.weednet.contactssync
HaxSync is hands down the best contact sync for facebook. It will let you pick how accurate names have to be (similar spelling or exact, and everything in between), cropping the face, if the picture they have is too big and all in HD (no low res pics). Also lets you sync facebook calendar and contacts birthdays into their contact card and their timeline statuses.

Thank you all. Why Facebook does this sync? Isn't there a setting for that?

There's a LOOOOOOONG running issue between FB and Google over all of this...Google it for more info as it's too long to get into here!
Just a quick question..
Does these apps incorporate all those Facebook contacts into our phone's contacts which aren't there at present?
As in I have a number of Facebook contacts which aren't on my phone and i don't even want them to sync.... Just want the pictures of people in my phone through Facebook.

Ditto this. Plus, it is easy and quick to manually add/change a profile picture from FB to Google contacts. And this actually works better since on occasion some people insist on having a goofy @SS profile pic.
