4.2.2 Root - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just received an RMA from Google and without thinking updated it to 4.2.2. How would I go about unlocking it and rooting this?
Thanks in advance!

Yes. both Toolkit from wugfresh or mskip can easily do that.

'fastboot oem unlock'
Grab a supersu update.zip from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053, push it to your /sdcard/;
'fastboot boot twrp_or_cwm.img';
Flash the zip.
Profit.

It is possible (albeit very slightly) that the file didn't flash correctly, but did corrupt the bootloader just enough to stop it being unlocked/booting into recovery.
If you can't issue the 'fastboot oem unlock' command then it could be for 2 reasons:
1. It is already unlocked (try typing 'fastboot oem lock' and see if it re-locks')
2. The bootloader is slightly corrupt.
Hopefully it is the first one

i managed to get it working after erasing everything as in the guide above. I had to keep unplugging the device and trying again though and after a few attempts it worked
when encountering this error i simply cycled through the options (using volume) and said boot into bootloader, familiar windows device dis/connect and then tried the fastboot flash boot boot.img cmd again, worked a treat, currently flashing the system part.
hope this helps!

[SOLVED] "fastboot boot recovery.img" not working in Android 4.3

I would like to receive OTA updates in the future so I left the recovery untouched on my Nexus 4. In the past I used "fastboot boot recovery.img" to boot into CWM recovery and flash an "update.zip" of SuperSU. So I get a rooted Nexus 4 without flashing custom recovery.
However, things changed after I flashed my Nexus 4 with Android 4.3 factory image listed on Google Developers' page.
In fastboot mode, I tried to use my old routine of "fastboot boot recovery.img", the command line shows:
Code:
$ sudo fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.4-mako.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.398s]
booting...
OKAY [ 0.002s]
finished. total time: 0.400s
Screen goes off, Google logo appears, screen dimmed, a few minutes passed, nothing happened.
My phone has already "fastboot oem unlock", of course. I tried it again and again. With different CWM recoverys and TWRP, the results are same.
I tried "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", it works, and I can boot into recovery. But I want to preseve stock recovery so I flashed it back.
I just don't know why "fastboot boot" does not work in Android 4.3 any more while "fastboot flash recovery" still works?
To test it out, I tried these on the Nexus 4 of a friend of mine:
1. Her Nexus 4 was 4.2.2.
2. "fastboot boot recovery.img" works.
3. Flash factory image of Android 4.3, everything's fine.
4. "fastboot boot recovery.img" does not work any more! (neither CWM nor TWRP)
5. "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" works.
So, the results are exactly same on my Nexus 4 and my friend's. There must be something wrong with Android 4.3, e.g. new security enforcements. Do anyone know something about this? Google did not return any valuable results.
EDIT: Problem solved. As 3rdstring explains: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44004032&postcount=6 , the new version of bootloader shipped with Android 4.3 factory image changed some of the "fastboot boot" command so you need to specify a kernel commandline to use "fastboot boot" command. For Nexus 4, the command is:
Code:
fastboot -c "lge.kcal=0|0|0|x" boot customrecovery.img
Yea Google took out fastboot boot for some reason.... Fastboot flash works fine though

So far no, looks like it was taken out of the updated bootloader.... Maybe security? Maybe they want people who have root to have an unlocked bootloader etc

You usually have to unlock you're bootloader to be able to use fastboot boot anyway

Google changed something but it's still possible according to this thread.
Code:
fastboot -c "lge.kcal=0|0|0|x" boot customrecovery.img
For what it's worth fastboot boot fails on the new Nexus 7 as well, but flash works fine.

So I have read through here quite a bit and I see the new commands for fastboot boot. My problem is I can't even connect with fastboot. Adb works but fastboot just days waiting for device. I deleted my existing SDK and downloaded the newest version (7/29/13). Still no luck. Windows 8 64 bit. Any suggestions?
Interesting
Works Again?
For the record: "fastboot boot recovery.img" just worked fine for me on a Nexus 5 with 4.4.4
even after flashing recovery, device shows stock recovery. I advise folks to visit MiUi forum for the twrp, that way it was quick and easy

With very considerable care!
Hi, Daniel120201...
The method I use is via fastboot... I don't know if the various toolkits that are available can flash a bootloader, as I've never used them.
So, using fastboot, the command line syntax is...
Code:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-grouper-4.23.img
...for flashing bootloader-grouper-4.23.img on a WiFi only 'grouper' Nexus 7.
The bootloader for the WiFi+3G Nexus 7 ('tilapia') will have a different bootloader name.
** (Edit & addendum: just checked, and as expected, it's called bootloader-tilapia-4.23.img) **
So for a WiFi & 3G Nexus 7, the bootloader flash command would be...
Code:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-tilapia-4.23.img
-----------------------------------------
IT'S VITALLY IMPORTANT YOU FLASH THE CORRECT BOOTLOADER FOR YOUR SPECIFIC NEXUS 7. Fastboot flashing an incorrect bootloader to the bootloader partition WILL HARDBRICK the device.
And on that note... and before you do anything... it's important you read the following first...
[WARNING][URGENT] N7 grouper (2012 WiFi) bootloader .img files from Google.
Hope this helps... and good luck.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Ty but I upgraded it before seeing this
You still deserve a thanks

You download the factory image, extract it and it should be one of the files. The just fastboot flash bootloader bootloadername.img

Is it already unlocked? If it is I'm pretty sure it will stay unlocked. But if it isn't, yes you can unlock and root it. Just keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader will wipe your data

Unlocking and Rooting 4.4.2 on Nakasi

Topic says it. Is there a way to unlock the bootloader and root the original 4.4.2?
I just need the commands from the fastboot panel. This roottoolkit in the development section want to download a whole new nakasi image and I think that this cannot be exept it wants to install crapware on it.
