Hi guys,excuse my english i'm Mexican,and i not speak a good English.
my question is:
i installed the rom xtremiui in the L3, the problem is;
I can not make a partition on the sd card,,I tested with the program mini tool partition a thousand ways to Fat 32 and Ext2,Logical-Primary..Primary Logical,,Primary-Primary,,,Logical-Logical and nothing.
I try with cwm recovery to create the particion and nothing.
In the Link2SD create the partition, reboot the L3,and tap I link the applications.
The problem is,dont move the apps to the partition. it's as if i select, move to the sd card and the apps move to internal storage (1gb)..
i dont know if is different partitions in miui or how, but in all partition options that I mentioned and i tested, I get the same thing.
if you can tell me how to solve, ussing other program or something. It would be helpful
Thanks

in link2sd tap the menu button, chose more and link dalvik-cache files. That may fix your problem. BTW when you link the apps to the sd it moves the apps to the sd and creates a link (shortcut) to the internal storage

cwm recovery should be good for any ics roms... but if you dont make it any successful, then try this;
using minitool...
- Linux Swap = 32Mb > primary
- Ext2 = as you wish > primary
- FAT32 = remains size as media storage > primary
noticed that Ext2 partition sizes have to smaller than FAT32...
in link2sd, choose Ext2 partition as mounting script created...
i'm using this n installed 200+ of apps w/o any problems... good luck
sooooo.... is it working or not!!???
OP where are you....?????

Thanks for help
I discovered that if you partition but does not work as above.
I need to do a few steps each to install some applications
Link Dalvik-cache
Clean the 2nd partition
Clean Dalvik-cache
Clean cache to all apps.
And reboot (sometimes)
and this frees me some memory . sometimes delete all and sometimes need a reboot. before everything in automatic, be changed but at least they found the solution.
Thanks

Can anyone explain to me how i would setup apps2sd as i have no idea how i would set it up.
i think this way will be a "fail safe" way to do it. but it will/could take an extra install of a ROM.
Back up whole SD-card to example a PC.
install ẂildPuzzleROM
Start Rom Manager and choose partition SD-card and something similar.
Choose size of the ext-partition for example 512mb and you DONT need a swap.
You should now have an ext-partition and the phone should reboot automatic.
Now you can choose to upload all files you wanna flash to a folder on sd-card and reinstall rom and flash apps2sd files.
Hope this helps.
Regards Daniel
ps. their are many ways to make a partition on a sd-card, but this way should work for all users on what ever system and hardware they have.
how do i move existing apps to sd?
Same problem , I have the EXT partition, I have puzzle rom with the corrects zip installed.
But how can i move app to SD.....
is there a menu, do i need to make a cp ?

If you have an ext partition on your SD, then you should have flashed the apps2sd package, you had rebooted your phone and it TOOK SO MUCH TIME, well apps2sd did move every apps to SD at this moment, apps2sd doesn't allow to choose between phone's and SD memory, that's the way froyo handle this feature.

Nandroid backup => format SD card with an ext partition (rom manager) => do a full wipe => flash v6 + apps2sd + move dalvik cache, reboot and wait a long moment before the lockscreen shows up. Voila ! Stable v6 with apps2sd !

And what does it do with new installed apps. Does it write it to SD or intern mem?
Hello again, I need clarification with this subject...
I had a difficult time in rooting my android, thinking I failed. so for many times I rooted, installed xrecovery, then most importantly apps2sd. but I don't think it works, then I found all about Links2sd. I installed it, and each time after installing I always select the "link2sd" option, and I check the include davlik cache, but my phone memory is continually decreasing... is this normal or not? could there be a conflict with apps2sd and link2sd since I don't know if I have deleted apps2sd. sorry I'm an android newbie. Thanks..
Well... if you had app2sd link2sd would monit about it and asked you to uninstall it first.
If you don't know if your phone is rooted, look through apps - if you have a superuser app - you're rooted
As for link2sd working or not: connect your phone to the computer and open minitool partition wizard home. It will see your ext2 partition along with free and occupied space. If there are any apps on ext2 partition of your SD card - apps are installing there and the slight decrease of space is due to the existing shortcut files. Because you have created ext2 partition, haven't you?...
I did what you said and yes I found files on the other partition I created. but problem is, some files still go to the phone memory, for example the game app "ninjump" has 15mb installed on the phone memory while on links2sd it shows that it is linked to the sd card.
also, I tried removing the memory card, and when I turned on my x8 the programs were missing, so I suppose links2sd is working.
only problem is now is that some chunks are still installed to the phone memory. is there a way of totally redirecting everything to the sd card?
link2sd: Leave data files in Internal Memory, and you can choose the apps to SD
app2sd: Copy all data from the application to the SD, It's all automatic

Ok, here's the deal - how many times did you install ninjump in the past? If more then once, and meanwhile you moved it to or from ext2 it might have (though the probability is very slight) that you have two apps - one in internal storage and one in ext2 storage.
So, navigate into ext2 partition (it's a folder in root directory - sdext or so) and look for this app. It might be hard, as names of linked apps are somewhat messed up, but there should be icons If there is no app on ext2, try switching it back to internal mode and then onto ext2 again - perhaps without linking dalvik cache.

APP2SD
I having problem with the app2sd too..i dunno whether it works...This is what i had done..I had busybox, superuser, and xrecovery installed and rooted. But when come to partitioning the sd card, i partitioned it into 3 parts : FAt, ext2 and ext3...after that i installed the update.zip and custom zip of app2sd...the phone starts not recognizing the sd partition...anyone can help here??
I use titanium backup to see app2sd works or not. if a2sd decrease, so it work.
if internal still decrease, I guess some file or even some app just can't work with app2sd.
one question too, how or can I move games data from fat sdcard to ext2 partition? like gameloft data. I need my fat space for other file

I tried navigating to the ext2 partition using minitool partition wizard, and I indeed saw files that I have installed there. so do you mean that apps2sd is better than links2sd? thanks..
Well... I'm not saying anything is better, though I used both solutions in three different ways.
For stock SE ROM link2sd is better, since you only need to partition SD card into primary fat32 and primary ext2 - nothing more. Then you install an app and all works fine.
With custom ROM you cannot use link2sd, since they all have app2sd hack preinstalled (well, you can always modify files, but what for?). Problem occurs when you have this hack AND ext2 partition. The hack then moves automatically all your apps to ext2 memory along with dalvik cache if you install them in internal storage. If you install in external storage, the app goes to fat32 secure folder and dalvik cache remains in ext2. If you don't have any ext on custom ROM, dalvik cache is always in internal storage, while you can move any non-system app onto fat32 sd card.
The ext2 solution in custom ROMs may seem convinient, but for me it was not. When you use apps like phone locator, they should always dwell in internal memory, since SD card can be easily taken out, while deleting such an app from a remotely locked down phone would require flashing, otherwise the device is useless for the thief
Well actually both app2sd and link2sd are typically similliar. I've tried app2sd before and it still leave some files in internal memory. So will link2sd. But link2sd is much more easier to use because once your phone is rooted you just need to install it on your phone without going through the adb shell thing. Easy for newbie for sure. But you just have to manually link new installed applications and games. That's what differ link2sd with app2sd. Now I'm using link2sd. If you want to make sure, why don't you try those froyo phone. Try to use the app2sd stuff on those phone. They still install some applications on their internal as well although they have built in app2sd.

Hi guys! As many know HTC HD2 have very small internal storage. I use App 2 SD
but not all apps are allow to move to SD. I was wondering if there's anyway or any program that trick/lure mobile that SD card is Internal storage?
//Thanks
Use a rom with built in app2sd+ support and an ext partition. Then, you DO NOT need to manually move apps to the SD, the system just does it for you, and all apps should work.(angry birds works from ext, for example, but doesn't if you manually choose to move it to SD)
Thanks for the answer m8.
I just update to newest HyperDroid (HyperDroid-CM7-v2.0.0-FearlessFalcon-signed)
And I think it got app2sd+ support but do I need to install or format SD to a specific way?
hi you can partition your sd card in magldr.
the first partition must be fat 32
the second partition must be ext3 or ext4 with a maximum of 1gb.
(Note this must be done before you flash any rom)!!
then the rom use the ext part automaticly
[email protected] hm... But what if I do it and than reflash? Will it work? 1gb = 1024 right?
What options it is in magldr? I have aMAGLDR V1.13 got lots of options from 1 - 12
but I dont see any SD or format?
boot magldr by hold pressing power butten than scorll down to ad recovery by pressing vol down. there you´ll find advanced section.
in this section you´ll find partition sd card there choose 1024m swap 0m
this is all
Aaaaaah Thanks trying now, and after that I need to reflash the rom?
And now everytime I install apps it will be in ext (1gb) partition? Do I need App 2 SD application anymore or move apps to SD?
No you don't need to manually install or use the app2sd app.
Aha that's good! ^_^
Hm it's still not done, I did partition 1024m swap 0m. Please wait...
Hope it's not stuck?
this coul take a few minutes. also you can take out battery after about 5 minnutes. sometimes it doesn´t show that its finished.
than you can reflash your rom!
Thanks guys for all help! I know I am a newbie when it come to these stuff. But it's fun to learn something new, now I can share the info with my friends ^_^
It seems to be working fine. I see that I have 174mb free and when I install apps now that usual cannot be move to SD is not on Intern Storage anymore! Now I can save lots of space.
Btw I put it on 1gb what if I have it 2gb? or maybe 1gb is enough hehe.
I use 32gb Kingstone card atm.
hi good to hear that all works great for you.
when you take more than 1024m as ext it could give bugs from some roms, cause not all roms support more than 1gb ext partition.
i think 1gb is more than enough for apps.
for example 1 app uses about 250 - 800kb so you can install more than 800 - 1000 apps on this ext partition.
all data which is used by apps may be stored on your fat32 partition like sygic aura maps and so on
Aaha I c, thanks for that info. Yes I guess you are right about that. Btw how do you check how much space you have left on that storage? In Storage info I only see phone's storage and not that extern.
And maybe you can help me with another thing, I tried to convert some movies/music video and I use MP4ForHD it seems to convert fine 800x480 but after I have transfer to the phone, it wont play -_-
for videoplay try yxplayer1 or 2.
to see how much space there is on ext partition you can use system control panel from market or applanet.

Thanks for the help m8! I tried yxplayer, it seems to be a good player but it doesn't play my files at all. It show up as 00:00 no playtime. But when I use Video Player inbuilt it seems to play but it didn't before. Really weird.
I have looked for similar posts but I haven't found exactly what I was looking for or I found old posts in the general sections of the forum, so I ask here:
What is the usefulness of an ext3 partition on the SD memory for applications?
Can anyone tell me an accurate guide to follow the procedure?
No one knows how to help me?
I think you will not need it.
ext3 earlier used for app2sd, but now almost all custom roms have native app2sd = means that you don' t have to make a own partition
correct me if im wrong
Blacksony
I'm starting to think that there is no use to format the SD to ext3..
U can make a partition in your SD for example of 1 gb EXT3 only for apps, you can make it with minitool partition wizard home edition (its free)
In ext3 the apps is fully saved in the sd (.apk, dalvik cache and data) and you can liberate more space in the disk than app2sd.
if u don't understand say me jaja my english is poor and i talk like a tarzan ! xD

Finally!
Thank you very much. I will provide downloading MiniTool Partition Wizard and format the sd by myself. If I find it difficult, I will ask your help here.
you are welcome, other form of format the SD in ext is with clock work recovery but you'll lose all your data
make a backup of your all data in sd before make a partition !
i have Nexus HD2 CM9 on my phone and i have only 151 MB available memory. Is there a way i could increase the internal memory ?
And y dont i have "Preferred Storage" option on the applications settings ?
Backup the contents of your SD, then create an EXT partition on the SD card, then use one of the many a2sd, app2sd, d2s (there are many variants) to make the system believe the ext partition is internal memory.
Don't say "can you help me?",,, there are loads of threads dealing with this,,, you may even find your rom supports this without you needing to do anything except create the ext.

Hi!
Its right, there are several threads talking about changing partition sizes.
i suggest using this tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
If you want to keep you data partition as clean as possible the first app you should install is Link2SD and set it up to link installed files automatically.
@op the partitions that the above linked post talks about is not the same as the ext partition I mentioned. If you do use the nand toolkit at all, be aware you will need to reinstall your OS.
