[GUIDE] Canadians Root your i9000M!!! - Galaxy S I9000 General

After digging through XDA, there wasn't many root methods available to us Canadian users of the i9000m! This procedure roots your phone and installs ClockworkMod Recovery.
Requirements:
Your device must be running on the latest Gingerbread KG3 Firmware. If not, please update with Kies.
Samsung Drivers
1. Download the files (Found below)
Odin3-v1.85
KG3-CWM-Kernel.tar
2. Run Odin as an administrator. In Odin, select PDA and open the KG3-CWM-Kernel.tar file. Auto-reboot and F.reset should be the ONLY things ticked off. Do not close out of Odin.
3. Enter Download mode on your phone. Press VOLUME DOWN + HOME + POWER all together until you reach the download mode screen on your phone.
4. Plug in your download mode phone into the computer. Make sure Odin recognizes your phone. It will show up in the "ID:COM" on the left side to verify the connection. The text box should also say "Added!". Press start.
5. Do not touch your phone. Wait until your phone reboots to disconnect your phone. You should now see the new app SuperUser.
And that's it! This procedure will only take seconds. Now you can flash ROMS and update your phone to Jelly Bean.
To enter ClockworkMod, hold down VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER.

Thanks... was looking for that TAR file as a friend of mine wants to root his good ol' GS1

Works perfectly, Thank you.

I follow this guide but my phone keeps rebooting itself and the Galasy S screen keep showing up for about 3 seconds then it reboot again. Help!

No, it was i9000 my bad. I manage to make it working again flashing the stock GB rom from Optus Australia. I'm sorry I never root the GS1 before this is my 1st time. Now it said firmware version is 2.3.6, baseband XWJW1, build XWJW6. How can I root it now?

You need to download the cf root from the android development section for your JW6 firmware.

[HOW TO] Galaxy S I9000 ROMs (Eclair & Froyo) on Captivate - Updated

The stock I9000 fixes many issues the Captivate ROM such as 'stalling' and has none of the AT&T installed bloatware. It's very fast by comparison, and everything is working great except for the FM Radio app and the Wireless tethering app. The stock I9000 firmware also allows sideloading applications so there is no need to edit the settings.db. Some people have reported issues with bluetooth and voice call quality. I haven't personally experienced any problems but be aware that some minor issues have been reported.
If you have problems getting into Download Mode try this method:
1. Take out your sim card, sd card, battery and open Odin3.
2. Put the battery in.
3. Plug in USB. (the phone will power on to that screen)
4. Hold down both Volume keys, and then push power. Hold it and dont let go.
5. Wait for it to go black.
6. When it goes black the 2nd time release power and keep holding the Vol Down and Vol Up.
You will need to be running the stock Captivate ROM. If you need to return to stock or fail to flash a ROM use the one-click application:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Eclair I9000 ROM
You'll need the following:
Odin, the zipped I9000 firmware and the 512 pit file from here: http://samfirmware.webs.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm
Stock Captivate kernel from here: http://koush.tandtgaming.com//test/kernel-captivate-stock.tar.md5
New Method (Requires adb)
1) Remove SIM and MicroSD
2) Open Odin, load the I9000 PDA file (CODE_I9000xxxxx.tar.md5).
3) Check auto reboot and leave repartition unchecked.
4) Boot the phone into download mode (adb reboot download).
5) Flash.
6) Once the flash is complete the phone will be stuck in recovery.
7) Reopen Odin and load the stock Captivate kernel (kernel-captivate-stock.tar.md5.tar) in the PDA box and the 512 pit file.
8) From recovery boot the phone in download mode (adb reboot download).
9) Ensure auto reboot is checked and repartition is not checked.
10) Flash with Odin, the phone will boot.
11) Shut the phone down, replace SIM and microSD and reboot phone.
Older Method
1) Remove SIM and MicroSD
2) Open Odin, load the I9000 PDA file (CODE_I9000xxxxx.tar.md5) and the I9000 CSC file (CSC_I9000xxxxx.tar.md5).
3) Uncheck auto reboot and leave repartition unchecked.
4) Boot the phone into download mode (adb reboot download or boot phone while holding Volume Down + Power Be sure to HOLD Volume Down before holding Power) .
5) Flash.
6) Once the flash is complete (Odin will say RESET!) remove the battery, disconnect the USB cable and close Odin.
7) Reopen Odin and load the stock Captivate kernel (kernel-captivate-stock.tar.md5.tar) in the PDA box and the 512 pit file.
8) Ensure auto reboot IS checked and repartition is NOT checked.
9) Boot the phone into download mode (Volume Down + Power) then plug in the USB cable. If you don't put the phone in download mode before it boots you'll have to start from step 2.
10) Flash with Odin, the phone will boot.
11) Shut the phone down, replace SIM and microSD and reboot phone.
If you want root access use this (I9000) update.zip: http://www.multiupload.com/JHIFK9K80P
If you need a custom recovery use ROM Manager in the Market to install Clockwork MOD for I9000.
Froyo I9000 ROM (Early Release)
Please note that as there is no Froyo Captivate kernel the stock I9000 Froyo kernel will have to be used. Expect the following bugs:
Home Button functions as Back button.
Screen is rotated 90°. (Not a huge issue as there is a Notification button to disable rotate.)
Speaker/Headphone logic seems reversed, will only play audio through speaker when headphones are plugged in.
Proximity Sensor is not functioning.
You'll need the following:
Odin, zipped XXJP3 I9000 firmware and the 512 pit file from here: http://samfirmware.webs.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm
1) Remove SIM and MicroSD
2) Open Odin, load the Froyo PDA file (I9000XXJP3-REV03-PDA-mid-CL470734.tar) and the Froyo CSC file (GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJP3.tar).
3) Leave auto reboot checked and repartition unchecked.
4) Boot the phone into download mode (adb reboot download or boot phone while holding Volume Down + Power Be sure to HOLD Volume Down before holding Power) .
5) Flash.
That's it, you can't flash the Captivate kernel since all available kernels are Eclair.
Please post or message me with any issues you have.
I'll be updating the post with advantages/disadvantages and bugs for both ROMs so please post your experiences.
Have a link to the I9000 files and a walkthrough for this?

and the Captivate kernel from here:

Use Odin to flash the I9000 PDA and CSC. After that completes use Odin to flash the Captivate stock kernel. If you want root you'll need to use the I9000 root update.zip. Once the Market is working you can install the Clockwork Recovery for the I9000.

I've been running the latest I9000 firmware (XWJM2) on my Captivate by flashing the I9000 PDA and CSC, then the Captivate kernel. It's very fast, everything is working great except all my market downloads fail and Google Talk doesn't open.
Any ideas? I don't want to have to go back to the slow, bloated stock Captivate ROM.

You tried Market Enabler yet? Pretty sure the .apk is linked on XDA somewhere.
Oh, and are you SIM locked still?
What is you re market doing exactly? Don't care much fort the google talk. How about hardware function? Have you apply the mimocan kernel? Sorry about all the questions.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
How about wireless tethering and FM Radio? Do these work with the euro firmware ?
Reaver117,
Awesome Layout
thanks
@sl8125
All the hardware seems to function fine, I haven't applied the stall fix kernel because it's based off the I9000 source and the phone seems fast enough without it. As for the market, all market downloads fail with 'download was unsuccessful'.
@clubtech
The FM Radio app opens and seems to function, but if you try to scan it states 'Unable to turn radio on'. I haven't been able to test wireless tethering because I can't use my data plan until it's unlocked.
@larry996
I can make a detailed walkthrough but without a functioning market the phone is not very useful.
Is it really necessary to re-flash the captivate kernel? What happens if you don't?
Did flashing the PDA and CSC change the kernel?
Did you backup first then restore? If so which program did you use?
I have been following 2 threads over in the i9000 forum but was waiting for someone to try it on the captivate first. I noticed that some of them had to wait 12hrs or more for paid apps in the market to show up for them. Your market download error may be similar?
Did you record your APN information and add it back after flashing? I have seen that some people over in the i9000 forums had MMS and messaging issues.
If market start to work properly and there are more feedback I may give it a try.
Right now I am on stock:
PDA: I897UCJF6
PHONE: I897UCJF6
CSC: I897ATTJF6
To those wanting a guide. There is a PDF in the link that was posted.

I hope you don't mind the all the questions, but when you post info like this its bound to happen.
If you don't flash the Captivate kernel then the volume buttons are reversed and the display is rotated 90°. I used the clockworkmod recovery to perform a nandroid backup. Flashing the PDA file replaces all system files including the kernel. I'm not having a problem with protected apps, nothing successfully downloads from the market. APN Backup will let you backup your APN info.

Had that with my stock rom happening where I get "unsuccessful download". After reading some forums someone suggested to clear the cache on the download manager and that did the trick for me.
Settings - Manage Apps (filter all) - Download Manager - clear cache.
Hope this helps.

This worked on the browser for me once when I was getting failed downloads. I didn't think about this.
REAVER117 please let us know if this sort your issue.
Solved it. When you apply the I9000 PDA and CSC files DO NOT check Re-Partition.
I'll post a step-by-step later tonight if anybody wants it. Running the I9000 firmware cuts out all the AT&T bloatware and adds some useful apps AT&T cut. Not to mention its MUCH faster and lets you sideload apps by default.
I would like to see a step by step so I can give this a try. Thanks for offering to do it.

Dude, be sure to mention that you're not connecting to any cell network because your phone is SIM locked, and as such can't assure phone functionality with this Frankenbuild.

[Q] Totally Lost - Samung Galaxy S i9000

Hi Guys,
So I've a Samsung Galaxy S i9000. Before I begin, can I just say I am totally and utterly technically un-savvy.
My friend rooted my phone so I could unlock it to use a particular sim card. However, my phone is now faulty and
I want to bring it back under warranty for repair/possible replacement.
I have this app called "Superuser" and I just cant get rid of it. I have tried a ridiculous amount of different YouTube
videos/blog instructions on how to un-root and delete the Superuser. None of them have worked in regards to removing
the app. I think I have un-rooted it but I don't know. Please please please can somebody help me! I've no idea what to do
and I don't understand 90% of the technical jargon in some of the instructions.
I tried restored it manually on my phone and via Kies but my phone was just totally restored the exact same way as it was
before (all photos, apps, contacts etc.). I've NO problem losing everything on my phone I don't care. The latest thing I tried was
an app where I typed in a code that apparently deletes the Superuser app but that kept saying it wouldn't work because it was a read
only file.
Here are my phones details:
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9000XXJVO
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWJVH
Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks
Make note of the modem firmware by going to settings>about>baseband version
1. Go to samfirmware.com
2. Go to flash tools > I9000 and download it. Extract to desktop.
3. Download stock ROM. firmware> I9000 and then choose the one one that matches the baseband for your area. Like in Canada my baseband is I9000KG3. So that's the ROM I download.
4. Turn off your phone and put it in download mode by pressing volume down + power + home
5. Open Odin from your desktop and plug in your phone.
6. A yellow bar should highlight a com port. This means your phone is recognized, the number doesn't matter.
7. Tick repartition and load 512 put that came with the flash tool, and load your firmware into the PDA section.
8. Start Odin and let it do its magic.
9. When it is done, it might boot loop. Even if it doesn't, reboot into recovery (power off, then power home vol up) and wipe data factory reset.
10. Your phone is 10053-47338282747728728% stock.
11. Hit thanks

Deleting SuperUser will not unroot your phone, check on sammobile.com or checkfus the latest firmware for your country and flash with Odin.
You can find good guides on youtube about how to use it.
Wouldn't it be easier just to run it in recovery and flash unroot.zip file.
I always root my I9001 like this so it should also work in opposite way.
Typed with my I9001
It will leave traces. Best bet is to not.

Tried FlashFire twice , no good...

I have a S4, I337 AT&T device and I think I bricked it by trying to install TWRP, it didn't work... I was trying Muniz_ri's "Update to i337 ok2 5.0.1 and keep root", I couldn't get the Flashfire to load, lots of stuff about rooting and no Supersu something... Any help..?
If you i337 is not on mdl or mdb bootloader you can not install TWRP.
If you phone is brick how could you install the flash fire?
Flashfire works well with stock rom. Are you on custom rom?
In note section of the muniz_is post , the #4 stated that "4. If you are not already rooted (or to unbrick) you must first flash the I337UCUFNB1_Rootable_Full_Odin.tar (use Odin's PDA slot (AP in Odin v3.09+), root with Towelroot, then proceed with the above process." . Did you follow that step?

I'm on 5.0.1 Lollipop, the second one From Aug 11 OTA by the seller I bought it from.... I was new to android and didn't know there was a download mode....
The baseband version is: I think it is called I337OCOG0C4... It is the stock rom that came on the phone.... I can't find the stock ROM to redo it( try to at least...) It's on 0C4... I AM rooted , by Kingroot... Verification says so.... Two different versifiers... When I go to flash..., it comes up with that message... I tried removing Busy box and reinstalling it... it was ok... I reinstalled Safestrap .... It loaded fine...
When I got to NC1 flash..., it says it can't see busy box or safestrap, either one might have a problem... They both loaded fine..... I tried flashing the Tar from above... Odin just sat there and finally said fail... twice.... I think the corruption is hurting the ability to enter recovery on the phone.... I can't enter "Recovery Mode" on the phone... It is damaged.... I thought flashing could do it...

If you followed Muniz_is instruction step by step I don't think you should have a problem.
I used SS (safestrap) when I was in kit-kat alot but not anymore. It is tricky to use SS in lollipop. So I can not give you any comment on using SS. I use flashfire app instead.
So every time I want to install the custom rom, I followed Muniz_is instructions. Odin the NB1, use towelroot to root, install flashfire and flash the rooted OC4, install flashfire again and then flash the custom rom.
Muniz_is post is updated to OK2 but I am still using the OC4 files that posted previously. If you want to stay on OC4 do let me know.
What do you mean you can not enter recovery mode? I am sure you know the key sequence (press power+home+volume up) for recovery mode. If your phone is bricked, then you need to press the same keys for at least 10 sec and then let the power button go but keep pressing the home+volume-up until you felt the phone vibrate and see the small blue label at the top of the screen.
To use the odin you have to be in the download mode. To get to the download mode you need to press power+home+volume-down.

Your recovery mode probably works fine.... Mine is corrupt... You must use Recovery mode in Odin... I tried... Failed twice... Tried 4 other .tar's.... No good... A FAIL for each... I guess you have to have Recovery Mode just to allow the device to do anything... I DO appreciate you guys and ALL of your efforts ...... Maybe we could put my device on Android Studio and look at what is hurting it... I'd love that....
I had got myself into same mess in early January 2016 but I got out and all is working perfectly fine with me. Can you successfully get your i337 into download mode? if YES contact me via PM and I can tell you exact steps I performed to get myself back into fully working condition. Believe me it's simple steps not rocket science - just that one needs to perform very carefully.
To get to the download mode you need to press power+home+volume-down.

Neither device will boot into Recovery mode... It gives 5 or 6 lines of stuff..., then freezes up... I can release it to use the phone... I'd like to try using Android Studio to see what can be done...
Isn't there a "Format" system and re-installation plan I can use..., like doing a computers hard drive..?

I AM ASKING YOU TO GET IT INTO DOWNLOAD MODE - to get into download mode - the messed code is not executed....Try to get into DOWNLOAD MODE - i am 100% sure - it will go into download mode....It should....

It froze up.... It stopped moving foward to the lower potion of the Recovery program.... At the bottom..., you can choose the different ways to manipulate the program... Mine, both phone stop at the processing sign in....
It will require something more than a few buttons being pressed.... I'll have to learn to use the Android Studio and either rebuild the program from within or to reprogram it from outside..., like with a .tar flash....

I reflashed an At&t .pit file ( using Odin) and it rebuilt my file ( partition) for Recovery mode... Not sure how it did it... Now when I CAN get into recovery mode..., it doesn't recognize the SD card so I can't use the tools in Recovery mode to change the rom to something earlier, like Muniz_ri did in one of his wonderful fixes... (Double thanks Muniz_ri..)
Once Odin sees my device..., I set it up yo start a Muniz_ri renewing rom ( I337UCUFNB1_TWROOTABLE_FULL_ODIN.tar.md5 ) and it gets to "system.img.ext4" about 10% into it and then it freezes up....
Anyone have any ideas..?
If u are able to get to download mode - I strongly recommend first you flash ONLY Stock Partition file.
Then again reboot in download mode and then try the FNB1 file....this may work...but before all this flash proper pit file - refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2496517
stock partition file(s) are available on xda - search and download....

[GUIDE] Download and install MM on SM-T715

Hi guys, i'm here to share with you the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 firmware for the SM-T715 (wifi and LTE version). It's an italian version of the firmware but it should work with other regions too. Here's the link for the download:
Link: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/70887/T715XXU2BPD6_T715OXA2BPD6_ITV/
Courtesy of Sammobile.
And here's a guide (written by miguimercadob, all credits goes to him) that you can follow also for our tablet.
1->Turn off your tab and boot it into the Download Mode. To do this, turn off your device and then press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power buttons simultaneously for 2-3 seconds. When you see the warning screen with a yellow triangle sign, press the Volume Up/Down key to enter Download/Odin mode.
2->Download the required Odin.zip file and extract the file on your PC. You will get the Odin3_v3.10.7.exe file. Open it as the administrator to get to the Odin window.
3->Connect your Galaxy device to the computer using the USB cable.
4->When you connect the device, the ID: COM port on Odin will turn Blue. You’ll also see“Added!!” message to indicate successful connection. If Odin des not detect your tab, try to reinstall drivers, try another usb cable and another usb port.
5-> Check "AP" box and click on AP. A window will pop up, just go to the folder where you extracted the firmware and select T715XXU2BPD6_T715OXA2BPD6_ITV.tar.md5 file (name may vary according to device model)
6->Now Odin is checking MD5 and will freeze for a minute or so, but don't worry, just let Odin work.
7->Click on the "Options" section and make sure that only the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time boxes are checked. (Do not, in any case, check Re-Partition box).
8->Now, click the Start button on Odin to begin firmware installation.
10->Once you get a PASS! message on Odin, your device will restart. It’s the green signal that indicates a successful installation.
11->Once our device restarts, you can disconect it.
12-> Enjoy Marshmallow on our Tab s2 (First boot will last for some minutes, just be patient! )
That's all! Hope that everyone can update

Hi! Would it work in T715y?
is 5g wifi working for anyone in North America? someone another thread had issues with UK MM update....
Root works with no issues. Just regular odin twrp and flash supersu.
Need to find how to enable theme engine/store and mm will be perfect

Hi, this version is ONLY for SM-T715. On other variants, such as "SM-T715Y", "SM-T715C" or "SM-T715N0" will not work.

Hi, Giuskiller, thanks for giving credits to me. Just one thing to say, people is asking for root, so it would be a good idea to add a link to my post so people can follow twrp and root instructions.
Ok to i stall this on uk 715?
Try flashing this CF autoroot via odin. Got mine here: https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ with MD5 67eb614992217b1e188689ce116f2fb1

No this wont trip knox as you're just updating (at least my one is safe). And yes, my t-715 is LTE version, so no problems at all.

Note 4 Verizon failing to update to Marshmallow

Hello everyone
Please bear me with me for I am a dinosaur that grew up with Symbian phones, then was forced to use Windows phones and now recently converted to Android, therefore not an expert in this field.
Bought the Note 4 off ebay in UK. Mobile banking app and Android Pay say my phone is rooted however Root Checker says it isn't . I have tried to update to Marshmallow through ODIN but I get the FAIL Auth error every time I try...
In settings the phone shows up as N910F however it is a N910V ... I do need help to figure out the precise model though just to make sure I am installing the correct software.
Also, I am using a Lebara SIM card (partners with Vodafone) here in UK, not sure if that matters.
Would really appreciate if someone would have the patience to guide me how to install Marshmallow on my phone, I just want a clean one and no rooting. Tried different tutorials on the internet but none worked for me or I am surely doing something wrong.
Many thanks in advance!
Andy

Hi Andy I'm also in the UK with note 4. To find out the correct model you need to boot to download mode. Power off the phone, Hold volume down + home + power together. It will boot to download mode and from there it will show you the model.
Post your correct model here and I will post the firmware with the correct steps to flash.
Hi Callum
In download mode it says N910V

Ahh you have the verizon varient.
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/117781/N910VVRS2CPL1_N910VVZW2CPL1_VZW/
Here is the stock marshmallow firmware for your device.
Download and unzip the firmware. Place it in odin in AP. In odin options enable auto reboot and uncheck repartition. Put phone in download mode, connect to pc and start.
Thanks for the firmware , that worked like a charm. Is it possible to install a non-Verizon version on this phone? One that does not have the Verizon preloaded apps?
Also, do you know anything about the Note 4 getting the Nougat update?

You can only flash firmware for your device which is N910V. Which means unfortunately you can only flash verizon firmware. However you can root your phone and use titanium backup to remove the bloat.
As for the N update I have read and heard rumours that we will get it but I don't have my hopes up. Even though the Note 4 is 2 years old it's still a high end device. It hasn't been officially announced yet. Only been announced for s6/s7 and future releases

1st download the firmware.
Download odin, latest version is fine but I use v3.10.6
On phone settings go to about device, tap build number 7 times until developer options is there, go on developer options and enable USB debugging.
Plug phone to pc to make sure drivers are up to date.
Once firmware is downloaded unzip it.
Power off phone and put into download mode, vol down + home + power.
Open odin and click AP, insert the firmware. Odin options should be, re partition UNCHECKED, auto reboot checked, f reset time checked.
Plug phone into pc, in odin log it will say added with blue box saying com:3 or similar.
Press start and it will flash and reboot. The first boot can loop a few times or hang on the Samsung logo for a little while it's normal.
If it hangs for more than 15 minutes remove the battery for a few minutes then power on again and it will boot.
If you get any errors or are unsure let me know.
