Hi
I have 2 Galaxy s here so i compared the Screens of them. I set on both brightness to lowest but they dont look different. On one of them the white looks much better. Its "more" white.
Can this be fixed or is this a hardware problem?

You mean they look different?
Afaik, SAMOLED screens display warmer colours after being used for awhile so a brand new screen will display cooler colours so that the white may appear blue tinted, this gradually disappears over time as stated above.

This is the correct technical explanation. New screen appear blueish and white. It gradually turns warmer upon use. It's due to the degradation of the blue-making organic compound.

Enough I can't find for S Amoled but oled has a 5 years life based on 8hours on per day. I guess already in a year or two you will change your phone
SGS screen is awesome, even if colors are not really well calibrated...
Yesterday, I saw a recent Galaxy S and it was really brighter than mine (4 months year old)
I noticed a huge difference!
Did anyone of you got the same experience?

Insulting question perhaps, but did you check the brightness slider of both phones?

Same rom, same kernel, same phone, same country, same settings. I'll try to post some pictures

We just got 4 at work. The supplier told us they only had 1 left a few weeks ago and we had to wait until they got new stock so when they turned up we had one from an old batch and three newer ones. The one older one was very noticably darker then the 3 newer ones even with exactly the same screen settings. It also had a slight blue tint to it.
My brother and I both have I9000 Galaxy. The 1st phone (the older one) was very bright that it resulted in eye strain while using!
After about a month when I bought a new Galaxy S it was very dark compared to the older phone on same settings and same firmware.
So maybe its the issue with some phones or I am guessing that the older phone suffered from backlight bleeding! But now the screen broke and I bought a replacement screen from ebay.

Now THAT explains something. I have a pixel tester and when I set it to black, in a pitch black room I can still see the screen. Well now I know... You sure about that though? Even the Samsung Super AMOLED videos make a point of there being no backlight.
AMOLED does die over time, blue first. So as I understand it most of these AMOLED screens in phones have twice the blue pixels to make up for it over time. I would of suspected that the lifetime is a few years though, not months.
There is no backlight in S-AMOLED displays.

As you can see, there is no lamp, neither a white background needed for the light to reflect.

Thought so. So, can anyone explain to me why I can see my screen in the dark when the phone is showing only a black screen? Such as with the dead pixel checking app I used? Perhaps it does not correctly request true black but even noLED from these forums does it.
I would expect it's due to leakage current.
Each pixel on the screen is controlled by a transistor (actually probably more than one). Even when the transistor is turned off (and the pixel should be dark) there will still be a small amount of current leak through. I suspect that this is what causes the screen to glow slightly even when displaying black.
Of course when the entire screen is turned off, no power is going to the display, so even this small current stops and the screen is darker.
Maybe Samsung has switched to SLCD screens.
The rumour circulated few months ago that Samsung has stopped the production of the Wave and the Galaxy S smartphones because of the Super AMOLED shortage.
Maybe now they are shiping SGS with SLCD.
The SLCD screens are much brigther than SAMOLED.
Here is the comparison:

I highly doubt samsung would discontinue the SGS line for any reason. In fact, they just started to showcase the 7inch SAMOLED most likely for the next gen galaxy tab.
However, here's a comparison.

I'm sure it was an AMOLED Screen, easy to recognize...
I'll try to make some photos.
i got mine when it first came out and i have it on zero brightness setting and it is bright and clear (except in sunlight when it becomes as hard as any other phone to see)
ive tried about 15 of these phones and the screens on all of them were different when set to the highest brightness. The most common differences were darker and lighter shades of blue. a couple were more red than others and looked 'warmer'. The one im using right now is pretty neutral though not sure why that is but they all seem to be different.
(all 15 were running JH2 stock with no lagfixes on i9000m from bell)
Argh...
I have a dead green pixel towards the bottom of the phone... And now that i know its there.. I keep looking at it! Def wasnt dead when i got it
A good way to test the pixels is via the *#0*# menu... red, green and blue.
i always have brightness settings at the lowest and when i was using eclair rom everything was really dark. after flashing froyo rom i noticed straight away even at the lowest settings the phone is still pretty bright but green colour does not look good at all.
Guyz I bought a galaxy note last week...just out of the box i saw a yellowish tint all over the display basicaly from the bottom left.....
so i got an app screen adjuster
i installed then adjusted the blue at +5 and now 90% of the yellowish tint is gone..
soo i have to ask is it safe to use this app????
heres the link to the app Here!
Sure its safe to use but if your note is flawed from the factory then take it back ??

I use it to lower the contract to -40 as it fixes some of the black rendering issues. I also set the overall brightness down to 75% as it is just set too bright (I turn it off when outside).
I have never fiddled with the colour as my colour renders perfectly. I agree that if it is not rendering correctly, send it back for a replacement. It will likely only get worse.

interesting how it helps you to solve some black rendering issues, but not at all for me.
Yeah its awesome but lags my ICS ROM down
its awesome app ... removes black blocks completely on videos .... is it factory issue with my note .. as i think it should work correctly be default .... isnt it ? ....
For sure is a very good and safe app but better now that is brand new it s better to take it back....
I have observed the similar thing.
I have now bought 4 Notes for myself and my family members (Yeah I know, 4 people in family with Note ). My personal one manufactured in October and those bought recently (3 of them, all made in January 2012) have different colour reproduction.
The new ones have slightly warmer colours when you look dead on (with slight shift to blue when you look at it from bottom at extreme angles which is to be expected).
But straight on, the new Note has colour reproduction similar to my Galaxy Nexus. ITs slightly warm. Its definitely not the colour calibration as it remains same regardless the ROM I use. Its definitely not like traditional SAMOLED blueish display like my old Note or SGS2 which I had before that.
All 3 which are manufactured in Jan 2012 have same colours. All 3 bought from different stores few days apart. But I dont think its bad thing. It actually little warmer like Nexus and is more closer to real life colours. I know that many people prefer artificial looking, eye popping SAMOLED colours, but I am definitely not complaining.

Black colour blocking is universal as far as I know. All of the Notes I have seen have it with hardware accelerated video playback. Using software decoding using players like MX video player or MoboPlayer or BSPlayer solves the issue for now and there is already work under way to fix this issue. I dont think you need to return your phone for this as new one will most likely have same issue.
What I mentioned was regarding general colour reproduction of the screen. The new Notes have slightly warmer colours everywhere. Be it in home screen, browser, gallery or video.

No, it's not faulty. Color banding or black blocks are just artifacts introduced by developers or the video encoding process for the most part - the issue is generally not apparent on TFT display types since the LCD layer isn't able to block 100% of the light to show you a true 'black' pixel.
Good dithering can hide the problem somewhat, but on OLED displays it's more difficult since they are far better with contrast.
You could look at it one of two ways...
You have a superior display technology that the world just needs to catch up with.
Or you have a worse screen because it doesn't hide what other display types are incapable of rendering.
Take your pick : )

Thats a relief ... i was also thinking the same thing as , other colors looks quite nice on my note ... only issue is the blocky blacks which on less resolution videos are more visible .... however i was able to solve the issue using screen adjuster app by setting contrast to 55% ... at that it displays no blocky blacks at all ... just the screen gets an overlay of grey for pure blacks..... i can live with it ...
I figured it out.
go to settings>display>auto adjust screen tone - turn it off (it is the last option on the page).
Now my note 2 is brighter then my note 1 but now i lose the benefit of power saving.

Anyone think this will get screen burn in?
I have a Gs3 for 3 or so months now my first amoled screen and I hear that GS2 had screen burn after 11+ months..
Will the note 2 suffer from this due to true RGB screen unlike note 1/GS3 with pentile screens... Note 2 has a new type of screen development not sure if they mean by true RGB or a new technology of amoled HD screen..

ANY amoled display will suffer from burn-in!
degradation happens over time (oxidation) as well as through usage!
as technology improves this is less worse than it was years before, but
the burn-in problem is still existing!
What is the normal span for burning amoled of note 2

But the Note II pixels ON PAPER should have longer life span as the Blue sub-pixels degrades first and by making them twice as big in the note II it should now survive for longer period

Your told, lcd is brighter in sunlight which is the main reason your tokd Lcd is superior or at least thay say amoled is inferior. Wrong, its because if default settings by the makers. Once rooted with proper kernel(almost every device has em) you can do with amoled what you cant do with lcd. Double the color multipliers from android default of 200 to 400. I use in order of RGB, 320/320/400 to achieve perfect white and black. Also the battery myth, lcd drains less. Thats bullcrap. Amiled black pixel achives pure black because its actually OFF. that is main reason it uses less power than lcd. Instead if going on and on I will just show u proof. I will show you picture of my LGOG(sprint optimus g) and my even aging gnex side by side in sunlight with my shadow on half the screens to show its actual sunny lol. 2 different pic styles, img and jpeg clearly shows that even with a shattered and pentile matrix amoled screen its brighter in the sunlight. Even did my shadow in it so no one would say....sun wasnt out lmao. Sorry naysayers proof is in the pudding and the gooey pudding is right in front of your face. Proper kernel with amoled is brighter and better battery saver than lcd. Lcd is backlit anyway and most high end phones will use it in the future because it can be bended and manipulated and LCD can't because it is backlit. Only low end phones will be lcd in the future.
I agree with what you've said (I use Samsung phones primarily), but it is true that when displaying white, it uses 3x as much power as an LCD. On mostly black, you're correct; very little power draw.
Tell me about AMOLED burn-in. Since you are increasing the luminosity, I would suspect that burn-in would be faster?

Similar to plasma screen televisions, if you leave an image on the screen for a long time (much more than average), you'll see remnants of it permanently. However, if it's anything like televisions, you can fix it by displaying a white image on the screen (entirely white) for a few hours. I've never had this happen to me and ive owned almost all major Samsung phones. Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III, Note 2, and now S4.

Yes burn in can occur on older like the gnex. Newer amoled is less likely but always set time out of 2 min when color multipliers are set to max. Best settings, for pure white is ,320,320,400 rgb color multipliers. Sorry should have talked about burn in,my apologies .
of course
