[Q] Problem with GPS - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

As the title says-I can't get the gps to work no matter what I try.
I know it's not something that hasn't been discussed here before but I tried everything.
GPS status shows zero satellites, tried to config the gps.conf as well as any other fix. You name it, I tried it.
Now I use Nexus HD ics by tytung. Excellent rom except that issue which I don't think is rom related.
Back in the days I was on froyo with a sense rom and everything was ok. GB with cm7 was fine too.
But now I can't get a fix, and I also tried to revert back to cm7 and still gps won't get a fix.
Also note that on google maps I can get a location but that's due to network working in the background.
Tried a different radio, kernel and what not...
Any ideas? is the GPS gone for good? and way for me to validate that this is a hardware issue?
Thanks for anyone who read this far!,
a guy who can get lost :/

Back up your stuff and return to stock WinMo, check GPS outdoors.

Thanks for your advice. Did that today and nothing. WinMo can't find a satellite...damn..
So it's bye-bye GPS? One thing is now that I think about it is that I stayed with the HSPL when WinMo was on.
Does that matter?

As far as I know, no. HSPL shouldn't interfere here.
What was the last time the GPS worked? What happened after that? Have you dropped your phone or something?

It's hard for me to remember when and where but I guess I dropped it one or more. Can't really say
when I know for a fact the GPS worked but it did. I'm waiting for my T5 screwdriver to take a look at
the GPS antenna. I just hope it's just a matter of the antenna not "sitting" right.

I heard that if your GPS is working and you flash the DK17 modem your Epic will explode just like that poor kid's Droid X. Be careful!
I just want to know is after the gps is fixed can y9ou flash new roms and themes without breaking gps again

OK, I guess I'll give you a serious answer since no one else chimed in. The DI18 "fix" is not a fix, it simply resets the GPS cache such that GPS works and it looks "fixed". The truth is that if you have GPS issues, there really isn't a real fix yet. There are workarounds but the issue always crops back up (except for those lucky few who seem to somehow have fully functioning GPS, but they would have had it all along, they wouldn't suddenly have fully functioning GPS for more than a few days. That being said, I do now know of any reason why flashing a particular rom or theme would "break" your "fixed" GPS.
Which workaround are you talking about? There are several floating around aren't there?
I had problems on stock DI18, but after flashing Syndicate Rom, I have made sure to not have wifi or 4g on if I start GPS and so far I haven't had any more problems.

[R] Flashable jk6 GPS Files...?

Can anyone do this for me, im trying something out and want to see if it works or not...i would do it myself but got no idea :x help plz.
Why not just flash the rom? I can verify that the GPS in JK6 works great.

It works exactly the same way it worked before, which is: very poorly.

Yep, my thought as well.
People keep saying "oh, but I got a lock on 7 satellites in 30 seconds", but that doesn't help the fact that the accuracy is piss poor. Ran GPS Status & Toolbox and sat my phone next to my dad's MyTouch3G Slide. His held a solid reading to the 1/1000th of a degree, while the Vibrant jumped all over the place.
Bump... this would be nice.

Data drops.....

Is anyone else having major data drops? Mine is happening like 3x a day now! Very annoying. It has nothing to do with airplane mode. All of a sudden I will see my 3G signal leave, then there's a small x near my status bars then the x will go away but the 3G signal will not come back unless I reboot. When I reboot, my battery level drops all the way to where I need to connect my charger to keep it on.
This started happening about 5 days ago. Never an issue before that. Started happening after I flashed Trigger v1.5 rom. Went back to Bionix V and it's still happening. Wiped, Wiped, reflashed, wiped, wiped reflashed...still an issue.
Any help is appreciated!
You might try flashing a different modem.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
Or you might have a SIM getting ready to crap out on you.

I did a sim replacement but I really can't tell if it helped me because I'm still having this issue but not really all the time. Are you on 2.2?

What is considered a defect on this phone?

I still have my phone under the manufacturer warranty and it has been acting wonky lately. I want a new vibrant and I am just wondering what is considered a defect? Im thinking about flashing back to stock and saying my GPS doesn't work, and also I have light leakage from LED buttons. Thanks.
what is "wonky" about it?
Maybe we can fix it... I don't like the idea of helping get a new phone, just for the sake of getting a new phone.
This (and other reasons) are why phone costs so dang much.

Exactly, if it is indeed defective then by all means get an exchange. But if it just running slow then it can prolly get fixed with a flash. I process so many warranty exchanges that in all honesty there was nothing physically wrong with it. A simply odin to stock fixes them.

And if you are willing to try, check my signature for going back to stock... files and a guide for you.
Random restarts, GPS still doesnt work at all, light leakage on buttons and screen. Ive tried numerous ROMs and I am still having issues with GPS. Ive went to stock and while it fixed my problems with restarts, stock was just to laggy so I went back to custom ROMs, GPS still doesn't work.
I am also having signal problems. Me and my friend bought a vibrant the same day and we have tested in the same room that his gets better reception. In a room where he has H, I am only on Edge. This isn't a problem with the ROM because we are both running Bionix.
If there is any way to fix my GPS/Signal issues then by all means tell me and I wont send my phone in for a replacement.
EDIT: Thank you guys for the help. Could ROMs effect signal/GPS? Like I said above when I compared with my friends phone under the same conditions (same room, same ROM) i was only on Edge and he had H. I've tried Trigger, MIUI, and CM7 and still don't have 3G or H in places my friend does.

Thank you for the input I'm glad you gave me some good information as to fixing my phone/getting a replacement.
ROMs COULD be a reason since they have different modems... but if you guys were on the same rom and didnt change the modem, then no....
I have best luck on KB1.
I would ODIN to JFD, root, Flash Trigger and see how your signal/gps goes... if not great, flash the KB1 modem over it (dev section) and see if any better.
If you look in my tips/tricks (first link in signature) there is a fix I do for GPS. Sometimes on a new ROM when it DOES NOT work, I have to do that to make it work. Other roms, it works right after flashing... no real rhyme or reason.
If you want a new phone, i am certain you could get one based off what you said already..... but I would not be surprised if you could make it 100% right.

not to mention the refurb you get could have the same problems or worse.
Refurbished is what you will get, there are no more "new" Vibrants.
Sent from my CM7 Powered Vibrant
For gps try this http://www.intomobile.com/2010/07/21/t-mobile-samsung-vibrant-galaxy-s-gps-issues-fix-tutorial/
I am using stock KB5, it helped me get a lock in 15-30 sec.
edit: I did mess with gps.conf from hd2 forum, dont know if that helped too.

MIUI 1.10.7 Gps broken

my gps worked on cm7 and I think I read somewhere that if I change my radio that I could get it working with MIUI. If I'm talking out of my ass let me know I'm still green to how androids work :/

yeah, try changing the radio and see if it works.
Whats up man ... Im fairly new to droids myself. Im not new to tinkering with machinery though. I recently found out i was running a froyo based radio on all my roms that were gingerbread. I still had GPS tho. When I switched to A gingerbread based radio my calls, wifi, and GPS work far more efficiently. Go on youtube and look for mackster's mytouch 4g radio install. I was too lazy to read the pinned thread on flashing radios. When it comes to flashing radios follow directions to the "T" even do additional research cause you can brick the device

i would highly recommend the panache radio, works great on my Glacier. but every phone is different, you just have to test and see for yourself. but start with the panache one.

When you say stock ... you mean stock tmobile?
Panache is canadian right?
Well the radio I use in my sig is the latest gingerbread radio. (i live in So Calif.)
The GPS is flawless, but I never open up navigation directly from the app.
I use google maps, type location, then navigate. (gps reroutes within seconds)
Even when I was using my phone stock unrooted i had this problem.

Haha, I get that a lot. People always tell me that they're now addicted to all of this flashing biz after watching my videos.
Yeah I had to revert back to stock Froyo radio as the Panache one was causing my GPS to go weird.
I now go to school in Los Angeles so I need my GPS to work. It would lock on in seconds, but every 3-5 mins it would disconnect and I would have to re-open it all over again. It was so irritating especially since I had to do that repeatedly while dealing with LA traffic at the same time. But now stock radio has been really good to me!
