Trade value of a Nexus 4? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a 16GB Nexus 4 for both myself and my wife from T-Mobile. I love mine, but she is not as happy with it. I think with her she actually liked some of the things she got from the Sense UI, and maybe she would be better served with a different recent model phone that has a heavier overlay.
So, given that, does a 16GB Nexus 4 have a good trade value right now? What would be some good alternative, recent phones to target in a trade?

Considering its 16gb price is 350. You are better off keeping it. What are you looking for?

Just install a nice launcher with sense theme

Sense is nice...for a day. Been there done that. Stock android in its current jelly bean state is insane.

There is a trade-in value of $200 out of my pocket.

Probably get $350 or a trade for an HTC

I'll trade you for a brand new S4 HTC one XL S-Off
Edit: its in white btw, chicks love white lol

So I could potentially get a slightly different phone and some cash. I think the first thing I have to do is try again to convince her to keep her sweet, sweet phone.

Good luck OP. From my experience in general, if your girl doesn't know or care about anything root related with a phone they will prefer a skinned android experience better than stock ( ala touchwiz or sense.) My gf is a prime example lol. I've given up trying to make her see the light.

Yeah, that might be where I'm at. I see you're another former G2X owner as well. God I hate that phone now! Nexus 4 is so refreshing in comparison.
Any word on how the TouchWiz skin on the GSIII is? That might be a phone I wouldn't feel too horrible about swapping to for her. I'm not entirely sure what HTC phone I'd want to go with that we could use on T-Mobile easily.

TouchWiz is great in terms of features (smart stay, multi window etc.) but is (IMO) unbearably ugly. It's incredibly cartoonish, and the fact that the AMOLED display is oversaturated really doesn't help it much. In terms of speed and performance I've found TouchWiz to be slightly slower than stock but still very fast. The only real issue with it is the appearance, but you can change this with third party apps so it's not too bad.

I got tired of the bulk of the G2, and I hardly ever used the keyboard. Swype deprecated it.
I am much happier now.

when I saw leaked pics of the G2, I was like this is gonna be my new phone. Then I checked it out in person and was turned off by its bulk and clumsy hinge. It didn't feel smooth sliding out the keyboard..had to use 2 hands instead of 1. Anyways, good thing I waited for the Nexus and I love it! So my answer is YES.
Absolutely. You get true stock and a much faster and sleeker device. I thought about the G2 when moving to T-Mobile. So glad I got my Nexus S .

This here. I had random signal loss a lot.
Dude definitely get the nexus s. If you want a new experience.
I would say as long as you have an android phone, n not an iphone your golden,
Personally, I have my G2 running CyanogenMod 6.1.1 with setcpu (overclocked when battery full to 1ghz and as the battery gets lower, I have it slowly clock down), and juicesaver (this kills having data on when the screen is off but it still alows googlevoicetexts to come through etc.) Also, memory AND battery expansions make this a good solid phone.
I also have the MT4G modded n such.
BUT,***** the nexus s is very sleek, the best samsung has put out so far imo. It has a fast proccesor, nfc, amoled, and gingerbread, off the batt to startt with, if you mod it, it just gets better.
Get and use what makes you happy, but just don't bite the apple. If you have had your G2 long enougj and want a new experience and get a good sale on your G2, go for it.

T-Mobile doesn't care if you change your phone when you're in a 2year contract with a phone. You just don't get the 2-year discount.
It'll take a few days to get used to using a virtual keyboard than a physical but once you get used to it. You'll feel that physical keyboards are just a waste of space.

I started my android ownership with a G1 because it was cheap, and there was a ton I could do to a $80 phone.
Before that I had an HTC Diamond for cost and "crap to play with" factor.
The Touch Pro just turned me off for it's bulk and subjective feel.
The G1 had some of the same issues, but I knew if this experiment worked I'd go for the Nexus S.
In between getting the G1, and later buying a Nexus S, I just found too much of the lingering turnoffs about the Touch Pro/G1 when I checked out the G2 as a cheaper alternative to the 2x cost Nexus S.
A guy I work with can't stand bar phones and what I like about the nexus S in general. He's always liked his TP2, G1, blackberries, Droid pos with keyboard.
Find a "good" Nexus S and just be happy, if that's what you subjectively "like".

Lol As far as I know the camera on the E4GT is almost on par with the latest smartphones(one x, sgs3, iphone4s) or even just as good! The phone is a power-house(Exynos & Mali chip set) and the design is sweet! Take it and run!!!!!

Moving from the S3, to the Nexus 4

Hello all
Just wondering if anybody has switched their S3 for the Nexus 4? and what are your thoughts?
I am going to selling my S3 and obtaining a Nexus 4 simply because it looks amazing, and vanilla android is a bonus..
Your thoughts?
Try asking in the nexus 4 forum
Not the S3 but I did go from the S2 and yes it is an amazing device
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
There are already a handful of threads about the very same subject.
Thoughts on selling S3 for Nexus 4
For people considering a switch to nexus 4 you might wanna check this.
Nexus 4 vs Galaxy s3
Reason not to sell the S3 for the Nexus 4
Good point, can a mod please move this to the Nexus 4 forum?
I have both. The nexus feels and looks better. Other than build quality I can't see why I'd keep the GS3. My nexus has a slight rattle. So it will swapped for a replacement.
The GS3 doesn't feel as nice to hold. Even the GS2 beats it for feel. The os is better and I prefer the camera on the nexus. I think it is quicker too. It feels sharper.
It is all down to personal preference. The GS3 is still amazing, maybe its the fact the Nexus is new is the reason I prefer it. The expandable storage is nice and the removable battery, but I find its not as important as I thought it would be so I'm not missing it.
I'm gonna wait till next year's nexus. Between the SGS3 and the nexus 4 there isn't enough difference in hardware to justify a change.
You want to have android 5.0 when it comes out? Me too, and I will get it with the next nexus.
Similar screen, same battery, same camera, also quad core, etc. I'm very happy with the SGS3 right now.
16GB is definitely not enough for me.
The nexus 4 is indeed tempting, but the s3 now has some rather useful features in the latest 4.1.2 update. Multiwindow for example, is great for watching YouTube while browsing. Sure, vanilla android will probably get multiwindow eventually, but that wouldn't happen until Key lime pie, at least.
Believe it or not but I "require" some of these touchwiz features now, and these features are not in the market, they could be but don't nearly come to what the quality Samsung have.
Never thought I would say this but I love Touchwiz haha.

No surprises there, after years of using third party launchers and most recently Nova Prime, I'm now using TouchWiz for the first time on the S3 after owning all previous versions.
Well I got the Nexus tonight, and I absolutely love it, still got my S3 but she is being sold tomorrow, I don't think I've ever loved a device so much.

Colours on the S3 are overly saturated to me, I prefer the natural looking colours on the nexus.

I don't need to read the Nexus 4 specs to know I'll never consider it, because Nexus = No SD slot and that's why I've crossed Nexus devices that haven't even been thought up yet off my list of possibilities.
Touch wiz features are amazing. I'd get a nexus as a second phone as I don't like pure android as much as jelly bean with touch wiz. Probably I'd use a lumia as a second device rather than a nexus though. The only bonus to a nexus is the extra smoothness gained through less bloat of unnecessary fat that I hope Samsung will trim away in the next few updates.

One man's food is another man's poison. And too many people comment merely based on hearsay. I have both and love them equally. I have been a CM user since CM 6 and N4 scores hands down there. Still, that may not be the clinching factor for you!

I think people only post if there is a problem with the phone...
That why you only see post about people being unhappy with it..
Most of the time, people wouldn't post anything about the phone if it's working fine/happy with it..
But then you do get the occasionally positive/*this phone rocks* reviews :victory:
I end up selling my N7 after awhile I got my Nexus 4... cause is such pain getting game saves around.. !
Getting mine today :good: First things to do: unlock it, flash recovery and SU and off course Franco kernel. Had it before and liked the phone, the only bad thing about this phone is the camera quality and the washed out colors out of the box.

I would honestly suggest a soft gel/rubber case.. Hard cases ruined my hox, too much pressure to get them on, ended up breaking some ribbon on the board, so the screen won't turn on unless the housing is partially removed.. Which is how I have to use this phone until I fix it or order a nexus 4 if its not fixable for free/really cheap.
The only thing I'm losing is LTE. Which I don't use/rarely use as it is
You should if you can get it for $350 at Play Store. I'm happy with it, very good price for a good phone. If you can live with no LTE, non removable battery, no external SD card, somewhat low/tinny speaker output volume and just average camera quality you'll be happy with it.
I would buy it again. The price is unbeatable. If you can live with the lack of OTG (Which may be fixed eventually) and camera quality then you'll love it. I think the washed out colours thing is due to peoples love for very saturated screens. As I said in another thread, take a photo of something, look at it on the screen, if it's brightly covered in bloom, then it's over saturated. Just because the Nexus 4 is less saturated doesn't mean it's washed out.
All right just ordered it from Google. Can't wait! 388.00 total but that's cheap compared to the other ones I've had bought. Not to worried about the camera I have a camera for that. I'm still not sure on what case but thinking gel case something that won't scratch it n can clean up n not bulky. I don't know what plan to go with being in northern Mn there's not too many options.

i´m returning mine
I recently got it and I absolutely love it.
Things to consider though:
1. no SD CARD, got the 16GB version and im still struggling with space.
2. battery life is below average, I'm coming from a Motorola defy which had much better battery life.

Buy Nexus 4 to replace One X?

Should I buy the nexus 4 to replace my one x? or should I spend double and buy the One or S4 nexus experience when they come out?
Do whatever you want. If money is not an issue then go with HTC or Samsung. Most likely users over here will tell you to get the Nexus 4. If you enjoyed the HTC experience then get the One. If you want to try something new, get the S4. Otherwise get the Nexus 4.

Not completely true, the hardware of the S4 is great and the camera, screen, speaker and screensize are better than the N4 imo. Its the crappy and bloated software by Samsung that cripples the phone atm. I had the S4 for a week and sold it because of the lags and stutters, the camera and screen are very very good.

Not the screen. No matter how high the resolution is, and how ridiculous the pixel density, nothing makes up for the unbearable oversaturation of AMOLED displays If I were to go for a new phone (although I probably won't for at least a year and a half) I'd actually go for the HTC One right now, not the S4. As for which to choose out of the three options, it ultimately comes down IMO to whether you need more than 16GB of storage. If you don't need more, then there aren't really any significant benefits of the next-gen phones over the N4. Otherwise, get the HTC One.

Just buy the N4, slap a custom kernel on it for good batterylife and color control and sell the N4 in November/December for the N5. Waiting is pointless, we`re human so who can be 100% sure that he/she will still be alive tomorrow
