I'm on swiftdroid v2 2.3.4 cyangenmod 7 rc0 rom
I've got swapper and it creates a 500mb swap file but when I check terminal with the free command it says swap 0 and the same with setcpu. I want to play dungeon defenders but can't set swap can someone help please or point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance

How could u create 500 Mb file with Swapper? The maximum size is 256 MB. Which version are u using, just Swapper or Swapper 2?
No need to use swapper with swiftdroid v2 2.3.4 cyangenmod 7 rc0 rom, just create swap partition on your sdcard (you can use recovery (before that copy all from sdcard to pc)). After boot swap will be in use.
i did that too, created 256mb ext3 and ~36mb swap partition in clockwork mod once, but after my phone got veeeery slow and laggy, so i deleted swap and everything was fine. any idea what was possibly wrong?
try to set smoller swapines.
Why did you create another Swap partition on SD card? Reformat your SD card without any Swap partition. The Swap file created by Swapper2 is enough for it.
Another reason might be, your SD card needs to be of Class 4 or 6 to give you best performance. Slower the SD card, slower is your performance.
With swap partition there is no problem with mounting sdcard... ok, ok, you can use mount/unmount swap in swapper 2 options but that sometime dont work very well.
[Tutorial] How to setup a2sd in SGA S5830?
I am not responsible for anything you choose to do.
Prerequisites:
1. EXT4 partition on microSD Card
2. A2SD zip installer
3. CWM4 Recovery
4. Root/SuperUser
5. Terminal Emulator or A2SDGUI
DO NOT TYPE "" THEY ARE ONLY THERE TO SHOW WHAT TO TYPE.
* Make sure SD card is formatted with ext 4
* Open android market and download terminal emulator
* Open terminal emulator
* Type "su" then press enter and grant root access if keyboard is gone press and hold menu then type "a2sd install" and press enter now there will be stuff going on do not exit or do anything on phone until it reboots.
* After rebooted open terminal again. type su then enter now type "a2sd check" then enter now scroll back up in terminal and look for apps on the right of the screen once you see that look to the left and look and make sure it say programs run from sd card and there is [ ] next to it not [ ... ] (... are there to show space) also check your storage and see if it decrease this is another way you can tell if it worked. Titanium backup is great for checking your storage and backing up apps.
* Now type "a2sd zipalign" after you type this you will see some words fly up the screen just wait till it stops and last line says setting file system ready property to 1. the next line will be #
* Check your storage you should see a decrease. if you want it to decrease more open terminal emulator and type "su" press enter then type "a2sd cachesd" press enter wait for reboot
* This is an optional step. this will sometimes help with speed. Now type "a2sd heapsize64" press enter and wait for reboot.
* After reboot now check storage again and it should have dropped again. once you have done all this your phone will be running on your sd card and its internal memory so when sd card is mounted to pc your phone maybe a little slow. also boots will take a few seconds longer with dalvik moved to sd. now with your apps running from sd your apps will automatically be installed there so its set it and forget it.
* If you change roms and you want a2sd+ make sure the rom supports it and you will have to set it up again but after your sd card has been partitioned once if you never format it back to only one partition you will not need to repartition it like in step 2 but you can follow step one and see if your sd card is formatted correctly.
Thanks to user kryptico of forums.miui.us for making this guide.
Activate Swap partition:
su
a2sd reswap
Deactivate Swap partition:
su
a2sd noswap
Other Swap Scripts:
su
a2sd swapspace - To check swap partition
a2sd swappyXX - Assign swap percentage (e.g. swap 10%, then enter swappy10)
If someone want to revert to default settings, then use below commands.
Revert Apps to Internal Memory:
su
a2sd remove
Revert Cache to Internal Memory:
su
a2sd cachesdreset
Revert Zipalign:
su
a2sd nozipalign
Revert Swap:
su
a2sd noswap
It's clear that nexusace have a2sd darktremor enabled by default. And I think the tutorial on the original nexusace thread is clear enough.
But probably this thread is useful for newbie.
Yes fla.sh, I created this thread for newbies... So that they can easily use a2sd.
Below are my SGA memory details as per Titanium Backup:
System Rom: 218 MB (19.8 MB Free)
Internal: 189 MB (174 MB Free)
SD Card: 13.7 GB (6.82 GB Free)
SD Card (a2sd): 2.11 GB (1.96 GB Free)

How to format sd card to ext4? I'm little bit confused.. Should format using in phone or by pc/laptop..

Are you using linux?
If you have ubuntu, download gparted:
sudo apt-get install gparted
Open it by going "System>Admin>Gparted", then go "File>Devices" and pick /dev/sdb
Then, format fat32 to ext3/4

Do google search for Minitool Parition and search the same in XDA forum or you can use the below mentioned linux way which considered as lot risky.

[KERNEL][STOCK GB 2.3.x] 14-12-2012 PSN>> Kernel Memory-Modded SWAPALL v3.0 & SuperSU
Presenting users of stock roms and stock-based custom roms for S5830(Galaxy ACE),
PSN>> kernel
Features:
1: Compiled from Battery Extender 1.5.1 sources. (thanks to LibiSC)
2: Memory Mod applied (thanks to Doc_cheilvenerdi.org)
3: Swap enabled
4: Optional OC suport (max 960MHz)
5: Default ondemand CPU governor
6: Default deadline I/O scheduler
7: Kernel has inbuilt support for ext3, ext4, cifs filesystems (no kernel modules needed for these)
8: SU binary and apk updated to v3.1.1
9: a2sd suport completely removed from kernel to avoid any interference with memory mod
10: Rest same as in Battery Extender 1.5.1 kernel
Also available nims kernel with memory-mod applied & noswap/swap/swapall versions, OC supported. (thanks to nims11)
also BatteryExtender v1.6 mem-mod swapall-v3.0 OC supported available! (14-12-2012)
also BatteryExtender v1.2 mem-mod swapall-v3.0 SuperSU-0.99 supported available! (03-03-2013) (UNTESTED COZ NO ACE ANYMORE )
also Space Kernel v4 mem-mod swapall-v3.0 SuperSU-v1.20 supported available! (03-03-2013) (UNTESTED COZ NO ACE ANYMORE )
REGARDING publishing sources of these kernels: it is completely same as the sources posted by LibiSC BatteryExtender 1.5.1 & nims stock OC kernel on github; I haven't made any changes in it whatsoever.
Note:
1: sdext has to be formatted in ext4 only
2: Do not install a2sd or link2sd...or even any other init.d script for memory extension like armurulz script. You will fall into problems.!
3: The original data on internal /data is not moved onto the memory card partition mounted as /data.
4. The memory card sd-ext partition will be used unless phone is switched off and will not be unmounted during USB MASS Storage(only the fat32 partition will be unmounted; ie normal mass storage works perfectly).. BUT, you can physically remove your memory card (safely) only when phone is switched OFF.
5. When installing apps via apk or google play, they will be moved to sdcard by default(native android app2sd)... so if u want ur phone to always move future apps to be installed in the vast internal storage, do following in android terminal app or adb shell on PC:
su
pm setInstallLocation 1
Q.) What is this MEMORY MOD ??
A.)
Users of fast scards (class 6 or above recomended) can utilise their second sdcard partition (sd-ext) as phone's internal storage (/data) without any link2sd/a2sd/other init.d scripts.
If your sdext partition is 1GB wide, your phones internal memory (/data) will be 1GB wide.. tension free installation & use of apps.
How does it Work:
Scenario 1:
I switch on the Phone, without a MicroSD slotted in or with a microSD with a single FAT32 partition (broken or damaged microSD also suite this scenario...); GingerBread boots as usual!
No Difference!
Pure stock rom flashed via odin(rfs) or stock-based custom roms(ext4) supported.
Scenario 2:
I switch on The Phone with a microSD slotted in (with the second partition formatted as EXT4 filesystem but still EMPTY); Ginger boots acting as if
/data
is completely moved outside to microSD but just WIPED (not true obviously, and the original /data is safe inside the phone), so it resettle it from beginning...
Scenario 3:
I switch on the Phone with the second partition of the microsd (EXT4) up and running (already resettled up for use and with my userdata on it); Ginger simply boots with sdext as /data on microSD with your userdata there and tons of apps just installed from the market...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MEMORY-MODDED SwapAll v3.0 kernels:
1: Original Internal Storage (/dev/stl13) is formatted to be used as swap partition entirely so as to fully take advantage of fast internal data partition and relieving read/write load on memory card.
3: The third swap partition on memory card created using CWM or MiniTool or Gparted (/dev/block/mmcblk0p3) IF FOUND is used as swap space, with lower priority . So it will be used for swapping only when above mentioned swap partiton on internal data storage is full.
4: Swappiness set at 30 here.
5: after flashing this kernel you wont be able to directly do a nandroid backup in cwm; so format(wipe) "/data" in recovery before attempting nandroid backup.
6: if you want to revert to any other mem-mod kernel then flash PSN_EXT4_Recovery_based_DATA_ONLY_Format_Tool-signed.zip before flashing other mem-mod kernel, thats it !
7: if you want to revert to other non-modded kernel, just do a factory reset using this tool (PSN_factory_reset_EXT4_Recovery_based_Format_Tool-signed.zip) and you need to setup all again.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note:
1: Highly recomended for use on fresh installation so that 120-160 MB of free space is available at internal /data storage for swapfile; else u can use INTERNAL DATA STORAGE formatting tool provided.
2: You can easily switch between any swapall kernels but with formatting ONLY the INTERNAL DATA STORAGE using provided tool so as to ensure swapall working.. no need to wipe anythng else
3: All Memory-mod kernels are interchangeable; but swap configurations are different !
4: Swapall versons will take approx 5-10 seconds more to boot becuse of swapfile creation on boot ! Later on its quite fast !!!!
5: Nims swapall v2.0+ kernels have bootanimation working !

Some Tips
-: TIPS for faster responsiveness & performance :-
1: If your /system has enough free space, use it to move system dalvik-cache elements to ROM using Titanium Backup Pro. This will help in quick response to open system apps like contacts, sms, phone dialer etc.
2: If your /system still has enough free space, use it to move your "most frequently used" user-app into ROM using "convert to system app" option in Titanuim Backup. Now, some apps may not work when moved into rom (example=quickpic), then you can move it to /data again by "convert to user app". Because ROM (/system) has faster read speed, apps installed in it will open faster.
3: NOW ADRENALINE ENGINE v4.3 & v4.4 COMPATIBLE WITH MEMORY-MOD KERNELS AVAILABLE ! see here >> STOCK ROM PAGE
This is Much Needed Amazing Job!

what about if i have Class 4?
Well technically anyone with a partitioned memory card can use it, no limitations... But class 6 or higher is recomended to for avoiding slow boot times and slow read/writes from memory card....
A CLASS 4 user can try this without issues other than slower speed.

Note:
- i have not made any changes in kernel source and have not modified core kernel zImage.
- an SDEXT PARTITION is COMPULSORY.
- user data on original internal storage will not be moved onto new /data and fresh rom setup has to be done
- DO NOT USE S2E or A2SDX/cronmod init.d script or other such scripts with this kernel, u will fall into problems.
- do not overfill the internal storage with lots of apps just because of so much internal memory availability as their background processes will occupy most of ram & swapfile and active processes will be deprived of physical memory !
- FOR SWAPALL-v3.0: if you need to do a nandroid backup, format(wipe) "/data" in recovery before attempting backup else there will be an error(unable to mount /data)
- for detailed info on this mod, visit original PSN>> stock kernel mod page >HERE<
Preparation(for upgrade):
1: reboot into recovery
2: format original internal data storage (/dev/stl13) using recovery tool >>PSN DATA ONLY EXT4 FORMAT TOOL<<

4: reboott system !
Preparation(for fresh install):

Post-Boot Recomendations:
- enable "Kernel Samepage Merging" & "Allow Purging of assets" in Settings>Performance>Memory Management
- have the habit of long-pressing home button and swiping out apps in the visual list which were opened before and you are not going to use; this way you can clear unwanted apps residing in Ace's ram and swapfile.
- use supercharger V6 or PSN mem-mod compatible Adrenaline Engine CM 4.4(available, check end of this post!) , u will never regret!

Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.x
Changelog for SWAPALL v3.0 version:
(initial release)
Jelly Bean 4.1.x
Changelog for SWAPALL v3.0 version:
1: removed code involving use of build.prop entries as it proved to be buggy
2: intenal data(/dev/block/stl13) will be formatted to linux swap filesystem and will be setup for use with priorities along with mmc swap partition
3: swappiness set at 30
Changelog for SWAPALL v2.2.1 version: (REMOVED, DEPRECIATED !)
1: new code for conditional /data-swap mounting & swapfile activation
- /data-swap (/dev/stl13) will be activated when sdext is successfully mounted as /data
- swapfile on /data-swap will be created only when it is not present; if already present then it is just prepared for swap use
- used following build.prop entries managed automatically by kernel on auto-detection of sdext mount and swapfile status, thus governing conditional /data-swap mounting and swapfile activation:
PSN_ENABLE_SDEXT_DATA=1
PSN_SWAPFILE_PRESENT=0
PSN_SWAP_MAKE_NEW=1 (initial value)
- if sdext is not detected (unsuccessful mount) due to any particular reason then /data-swap is not mounted but instead /data is mounted on /dev/stl13 (traditional internal storage) and the swapfile is deleted.
- a bettter compatible busybox is used by this kernel and it replaces busybox on rom with required symlinks.

it looks complicated plus it will kill my sd card...any simplier solution?

its not complicated... simified process than what other scripts do.
well even using sdext with any other script will start causing sdcard degradation... plus to minimise sdcard read write a swapfile is created on other physical device ( original internal memory) to ease sdcard bottleneck.
( no loses, then no gains)

Moreover sdcards normally comewith a long repalcement warranty so degradation shouldnt be an issue
i am using this rom : [ROM] S-series 'ReVOlUTiON Light' V2 [Stock] [27.10.2012] [BatteryExtender Kernel]
so will this mod be a helpful if i install it with this rom ?
instead of creating a swapfile where /data used to be, would it be possible to completly use /data as a swap partition? (maybe reducing boot time?)

well I tried it before settling down with a swapfile... the problem is that I am not able to format /dev/stl13 to Linux swap file system in order to use mkswap command before swapon
I would need help with such formatting .....

edit: its out now with internal data as swap partition !

UPLOADED swapall v2.2.1
Changelog for SWAPALL v2.2.1 version:
1: new code for conditional /data-swap mounting & swapfile activation
- /data-swap (/dev/stl13) will be activated when sdext is successfully mounted as /data
- swapfile on /data-swap will be created only when it is not present; if already present then it is just prepared for swap use
- used following build.prop entries managed automatically by kernel on auto-detection of sdext mount and swapfile status, thus governing conditional /data-swap mounting and swapfile activation:
PSN_ENABLE_SDEXT_DATA=1
PSN_SWAPFILE_PRESENT=0
PSN_SWAP_MAKE_NEW=1 (initial value)
- updated hosts file (adfree)
2: SuperSU v0.97 is integrated in kernel and will replace Superuser and old SuperSU in rom along with its su binary

you need detailed installation instructions for this kernel or adrenaline engine ?
I`ve just tried it and it makes my whole system really slow and laggy, plus it also erases all the data on the rom and it introduce some bugs which where present on previous builds of PAC rom by nims.To put it clear, currently the latest build of PAC by nims does not have the hang while calling (The sound volume(, and when i install this kernel that problem returns

I'm using it on [aokp JB] with [adrenaline engine cm 4.4 mem-mod compatible] and i see that phone runs fast and smooth BUT STILL SDEXT (READ/WRITE) is slower than that in CM7 even though same code used in CM7 moded-kernel...and infact ram is less used at all times, even swapfile is hardly being utilised.. once the app opens up, it is very much responsive BUT STILL THERE SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE IN FAST APP OPENING(im looking at it)
the problem ur saying about the sound volume and calling is related to nims JB v2.2 core kernel(not related to mod)
Edit: I think I have to reconsider ext4 mounting options specifically in v2.2.1( cm7 as well as JB) for the sdext mounted as /data as well as /data-swap

[KERNEL][CM7 GB 2.3.7] 06-11-2012 PSN>> firekernel Mem-Modded SwapAll-v3.0 & SuperSU
Mem-Mod Swapall-v3.0:
- used firekernel 09-10-2012 (thanks to dragonn)
- native sdext support removed from kernel
- /data is mounted on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (where /sdext used to be mounted before)
- size of ur sdext partition = size of ur ace's internal memory
- two prioritized swap partitions will boost up apps and help in ram expansion
Swap Priority 1 = internal data storage(/dev/block/stl13) fully used as swap partition
Swap Priority 2 = mmc swap partition (/dev/block/mmcblk0p3)
- boot time will be bit longer while swap partitions are being setup
- SuperSU 0.97 integrated in kernel and will replace Superuser in rom and its su binary (thanks to chainfire)
- sdext has to be in ext4 only! (will not work if no sdext present)
- recomended class6 or above sd cards for optimal performance.

Swap Priority 1 = 160MB swapfile on /dev/block/stl13
Swap Priority 2 = mmc swap partition on /dev/block/mmcblk0p3

- faster boot time even while swapfile & mmc swap partition are being setup
- SuperSU 0.97 integrated in kernel and will replace Superuser in rom and its su binary (thanks to chainfire)
- sdext has to be in ext4 only!

Testing in progress. So far I'm noticing a slightly longer opening time for some applications, but a far more greater responsiveness in heavier applications (like dead space, angry birds space...).
Great job!
Edit: I confirm this is working great. Major improve in multitasking and gaming without visible bugs and/or instability problems. That's THE mod, man! Just gave my phone a new life!

Ok for me testing is complete.
Better that previous version, which had hangs of the applications in some cases, this one hasn't any.
And I should say it again, this one's the best thing I tried till now, I can't believe it wasn't done before! Playing Dead Space receiving messages popups in-game and without having launcher redraws on the exiting of the game was unbelievable till now...

im gonna work on new version which will create swapfile only on 1st boot (longer first boot) and then in subsequent boots it will just reformat swapfile(shorter boot time)
I was planning to try this on Thursday, but if new version comes before Thursday night maybe i should wait.
I suppose it is not possible to update from actual version to the one you are going to release is it?
