Ubuntu Porting Guide Published Developers Please? - Atrix 4G General

Ubuntu has released the Porting Guide for every Android device out there. We want badly in our Atrix 4G too! Any developer is interested to port Ubuntu to our beloved Atrix 4G?
Since, I don't know anything about porting & actually a NOOB in development section, So I just have a simple question, "Will it be hard like ICS or it'll be relatively easy?"

I hope be easy.

this version of Ubuntu touch is in beta stage, and a lot of things are not working yet like data ...
is not already a "daily use" version
we must be more patient to have something usefull :fingers-crossed:
but i'm very excited about that

sources released on htcdev.com

htc have released source code at htcdev.com, including i have noted, a gingerbread update for desire. would these releases make it easier for hd2 android development?
it will be an interesting next few weeks
1. Wrong forum
2. Already posted on the main news page
3. Gingerbread for desire is released last week already but not the kernel source
4. Source codes were always there on the htcdev site, nothing new
Dont post things too fast m8, i know everyone is excited about the desire gingerbread rom and how it potentially can fix the graphic glitches on the sense roms (is'nt even sure it will be fixed).
Please correct me if i'm wrong i dont think there is much to develop anymore for our HD2's as there are android builds that run as fast as stable as any generic android device.
The only big thing i can imagine that still can be developed is true 720p recording and i dont know if the source code will help getting this to work. i'm not a dev

No, it's not a source code of Desire kernel but "only" upgrade Desire to Ginger.

thisa was posted yesterday and was in the wrong forum and you have done it again today, there is already 2 other threads about this going in Q&A
needs KERNEL source not the release of GB
I know this is a dead thread, but one question that has been on my mind. If a kernel can be compiled can't the kernel be decompiled to study the source code? Just a thought.

Decompiled software is very hard to read, follow and understand. The "decompilation" process does not result in the original source code but in assembler code, which is big, ugly and meant for machines not people.

Okay. Thank you for the answer.
One question guys, may be in the wrong thread but excuse me. I just wondering...HTC realesed upgrade for Desire some time ago, Is it that they are not yet published the source code does not break the rules of the General Public License (GPL)?

Shweet!!!!! If I knew how to code..I would surely help you!(If you have anything easy to work on..do tell )
I will die for it IceCream!!! the camera speed is so fast..
Using Gingerbread as a base presumably?
Given the amount of "non-standard" hardware in the SGS2, you'll need support libs from either an existing non-AOSP OEM firmware, or from CM7 won't you?
great.. i hope u will port in a bunch of days

Lol no he can't. There isn't a FULL system dump of the Galaxy Nexus yet. There is only the dump from the SDK. He will probably theme it like Ice Cream Sandwich. Anyways good luck to the dev
source is the power, says cyanogen. wont this be useless when the sources are released? wont this feel like wasting cuz when sources is released, other devs will easily make those ICS roms, instead of porting it.
well anyway good luck to the dev!

That's not the point. Of course, a dump would be a lot better. But being the first to port and get a working SDK rom... Now that's where the fun is
It is possible, we have the full SDK ROM.

I for one don't see this working as every device seems to be getting the same LibC error at the moment (except for some reason the G2).
The best hope seems to be getting a HC rom to work then using the boot.img from that to boot the ICS sdk port. (this is what we believe happened with the G2 to get it to boot)
I would be satisfied with the new gmail application including widget
Cheers!
Looking to try .Hope you have a great ICS.

That's the Atrix 2 (OMAP), and that's Ubuntu for Android rather than Ubuntu Phone OS.
Ubuntu for Android, as I understand it, is basically the Webtop that we've already had for some time now and uses the kernel already on the device, whereas Ubuntu Phone OS is a complete replacement for Android, but the details themselves are a bit sketchy, like what display server they're using, what kernel is supported. Wouldn't it be both ironic and disappointing if it required an ICS/JB kernel, especially since we still have a Froyo/GB kernel.

Yeah, he identifies the device about 10 seconds or so in, but admittedly if he didn't the only other way to identify it would be process of elimination, looking at the logo's and figuring it out that way.
Guys, there's a post of saiftheboss7 that he mention that he made a request to Mark Shuttleworth, Ubuntu's Guru. You can upvote that request so that the Ubuntu Kahuna sees that us Atrix users want the Ubuntu OS for our beloved A4G. I can't post links right now, too noob for the forum, but you can check it out in this section.

I don't think this will be fully working without an ICS Kernel.
I think an effort like this worths a try, since we can aways update the userspace ubuntu packages, keeping the old kernel. I don't see why the old gingerbread kernel wouldn't work.

Trying to port JB ROM

Hey guys.
I am new to android developing.
I started by porting the CM10.1 ROM from HTC Desire, but my phone is stuck at the Huawei logo when it boots up.
I can still flash another ROM, but that is not the problem.
I want to know how to fix this. I want it to go past the Huawei Logo.
By the way, I used this procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598713 and I used Aurora ICS 5.0 for the base ROM. I know it doesn't have the same version of android, but there is no reason I shouldn't be experimenting like this.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Need to ask something
Hey again.
I haven't had time to do anything to my phone yet.
I am replying to ask if there is an awesome tutorial out there that could help me with this porting?
Currently, to port my ROM, I replaced files in port ROM from base ROM. Should I replace files in base ROM from port ROM?
Thanks for the help.
Hi Again
Hello.
I found out that there was a problem with the base ROM.
I have ported CM10.1 from U8800! Yaay!
But there are four things that are not working:
- WiFi
- Bluetooth
- Cam Recording
- Sound
Can you guys tell me how to fix the audio? In the logcat, it says that there is no sound output.
Thanks

Hey guys.
I've got the log attached to this reply. Have a look at the audio events and see what is wrong. I can't figure it out by myself.
Thanks

I have just ported the Jelly Bean from u8800pro to u8800non-pro, so I will be working on this ROM.
Seriously, I have no idea when I will be releasing a fully functional ROM. Because I have my studies as well, so I don't get much time to work on the ROM.
The audio is working in this ROM (wasn't working in the previous port),
The things that are currently not working are:
- WiFi
- Bluetooth
- Video Recording
I will try my best to do as much as possible.
I am new at building android ROMs, so please don't expect too much from me
I will be needing some help from other developers as well.
Do you think I should make a thread for this? or is there already enough not-fully functional JB ROMs there?
Thanks.:good:
Lololololol ridiculous!
Another porting, same issues...
How many are now? 4, 5 Jelly beans?
Ooo man, some times is just better to stay quiet....

I know how you feel. I also feel that way.
I would like to build Jelly Bean from source, like Blefish is doing right now, but I need a 64bit computer for that (mine is only 32bit. Unless there is a hack for this, I can't build from source.
I think everyone is going to start porting Jelly Bean ROMs until one starts working. :silly:
Everyone is porting the rom with the intention of making ir fully working and then abandon development. Why don't you and others continue the work that is already done instead of making a new port which will end up like the others.
Like your are having compatibility issues due to your 32bit computer, perhaps our device is incompatible with JB...

Our device will remain compatible with every new android untill android will be using some new architecture of processor, so "sometimes it's better to stay silent".
OP, abandon your trials of getting a working JB using copy-paste ports. It can be only ported from source.
P.S.: just install ubuntu x64 and try to build something like CWM recovery out of forumber's source. If it builds, you can build anything you want. Today's computers know how to emulate x64. I'm myself using an old pentium d 820 (i386, sse2 and that's all) and I can build.

Now I and others also pick up a JB Rom, mod it here and there and then instead of 4/5 roms we can have dozens. Then again non working well. This makes sense?

Because most of devs or those who like to be called developers don't have required knowledge and then leave the project as an excuse.

So I can install ubuntu x64 on my x86 laptop? Are you talking about a virtual machine or installing ubuntu x64 on the actual laptop?
And as for others: Instead of saying that JB is not compatible with our device and all that sh*t, why don't you encourage me and give me some solutions.
Anyways, I am not posting this JB ROM until it's fully functional, because I might stop development as well (getting interested in firefox os).

First of all, your CPU must support x64,If it supported, you can install x64 to you computer.
If you want install x64 system in virtual machine (like VirtualBox),you CPU must support VT-x or AMD-V (virtualization).
You can check virtualization and x64 support via SecurAble;
