[BUILD] [AOKP] [AOSP] [CM] [4.2.2] Discussion Thread [N7000] [JB] - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hey Guys [(Toxic and Rey), and Others] ,
I myself love to learn new things. So couldn't stop from making this thread for your discussion on building AOKP, AOSP, etc. that you want to discuss upon. You can also do that by PMing each other. But we would be missing some crazy interesting stuff. Also we can have others' suggestions. That's why I created the thread. Please use it if you like.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge in advance.

I think you should better discuss with chasmodo, and request him to see if he would allow to have these discussions in his thread. Building AOKP is not different from building CM, no other rom is for that matter.
But as i say, you'll have to request chasmodo. No use having different threads regarding the same thing.

Yeah that sure makes sense. But building AOKP isnt as smooth as building CM for the time being. And we will face many errors too. And Chasmodo already said that he didn't like the CM building thread getting heaped up with AOKP build errors. And also we can discuss anything related to building here whether it's CM or AOKP. Let that thread be a guide because most will not face any error while building CM according to Chasmodo's guide. Anyway I'll request him. Let's see what he says.

I like the idea of a separate AOKP compiling discussion thread so I'm gonna go ahead and make use of this thread while its here :good: I have a feeling Chas would approve of us keeping AOKP discussion here. Just gonna repost what I did in Chas' thread and see if anyone has any ideas...

device/samsung/manta/recovery/recovery_ui.cpp:23:20: fatal error: device.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
To me the error itself here seems irreverent, the fact that its pulling from the manta device tree is what I don't understand. I'm out for the rest of the day today but tonight I'm gonna have another shot at it and see if I cant figure this out.

There ya go buddy.. I dont see anything of use but that could just be my untrained eye. I just dont undertand what I would need to edit to make it pull from the galaxys2_common device tree (I assume thats where the all files regarding recovery would be) instead of the manta tree.

Already did. In fact, I copied most of the cm 10.1 n7000 tree and just edited what I needed to. I'll look a lil deeper, I probably just missed something.

Thanks for using the thread guys. As soon as my exam ends (10th standard board's Exam) I will also get started with AOSP (if possible) and AOKP. I have always wanted to build a pure AOSP rom for our Note but faced quite a number of errors last time. So I'll join you after 6th of March. Till then best of luck with AOKP. :laugh: :good:

I look forward to it buddy. It seems like I'm the only one trying to get pure aokp to compile (with the help of toxic of course) other than sixstringsg. It seems like by the time I get it to compile though six string will have already updated the n7000 to 4.2.2 lol. But hey its a learning experience and I've always wanted to give something back to the community. Huge thanks to toxic though, for all the help he's providing :good:

But I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I'm building AOKP for grouper and after the last repo sync there was no Kernel Folder in the device tree any more. At Github I found that
github.com/AOKP/platform_manifest
Now I can't find the place where to put this manual manifest to get the kernel folder.

Open Gedit and paste the code found at https://github.com/AOKP/platform_manifest/blob/jb-mr1/manual_add_kernel_manifest.sh .
Save it as kernel.sh or kernel_manifest.sh or whatever.sh in the root of your AOKP folder. Start the terminal, navigate to your AOKP folder and do
Code:
chmod a+x whatever.sh
After that, type
Code:
./whatever.sh
and everything should happen automagically.

I'm no expert on kernel compiling but I have run into problems depending on the toolchain used. For 3.0 kernel I used the Linaro 4.6.2 toolchain from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748297
Cheers
toolchain
well i guess i used the wrong toolchain. (4.3.3)

Cool, hopefully you can get something running. I have used the 4.3.3 toolchain for GB kernel builds without errors. Good luck!!

Thats a little old. I think linaro is on the 4.8 toolchain, i use 4.7.3 to compile my kernels. I would link you to the source i actually just use the toolchains from the CFX source. Also, i made a kernel compiling script (cause i am lazy ) so i don't really remember where the toolchain is lol
2.6.X.X
So far successfully compiled 2.6.x.x kernel using 4.4.3 toolchain and stock GB kernel from HTCdev site. For training purpose only. Dont have a GB rom to test but it should work. I'll try to compile 3.0.x.x kernel later with a new toolchail. Which one is preferred 4.7 or 4.8?thanx

Hi, I use the CyanogenMod repo for the kernel source. I've been building and tinkering with the kernel for a couple of months now (when time permits) and I've had good luck with it. Here is a link for CM Kernel that is compatible with our device: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/htc-kernel-msm7x30
I hope it helps
Am I understanding correctly that I just need to go to the Linaro site here and download the latest release under the 'toolchain build' tab (currently version 4.8) if I want to mess around with compiling a kernel? Confused by some of the other tabs and links on there.
Also, for the record, is this the only source you'd need to build the most current Glacier 3.0+ based kernel https://github.com/Evervolv/android_kernel_htc_msm7x30-3.0.git?
Looking forward to catastrophic failure and the potential melting of my Glacier...

AOKP PUB [unofficial] FAQ & Discussion thread - Last Build April 22nd, 2013

Hi,
Since thre is no dedicated thread about AOKP PUB in the Nexus 4 forum, here there is a thread for this rom for ours Nexus 4 (the current thread is HERE and maintained by bigxie but it's for the following devices -> Nexus 4 / Nexus 10 / Galaxy Nexus GSM / Galaxy Nexus CDMA. So there is not a really dedicated thread for the Nexus 4).
In the official thread of AOKP the AOKP PUB rom are not really welcome (no offense here, just a statement and I think this is what Romanbb wrote), and it becomes difficult to discuss about unofficial AOKP in the official AOKP thread.
This thread is only about AOKP PUB for the Nexus 4, general discussions, for questions, issues, etc... (for the official AOKP thread it's HERE)
bigxie said:
These are unofficial AOKP builds. Please do not post in official AOKP threads with bugs or negative experiences possibly specific to these builds.
I've compiled AOKP using Steve Spear's Project Unicorn Butter (PUB) optimizations for the following devices:
Nexus 4 - mako
These builds contain all the same features as mainline AOKP, but with compiler, ARM architecture, and additional optimizations offered by PUB.
I will continue to sync and build new versions whenever there are major AOKP updates, or they release a new milestone or stable build.
The installation instructions are straightforward:
1. Download build for your device
2. Download latest gapps here: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
3. Install both using TWRP or CWR (ROM, then GAPPS)
4. Wipe cache and dalvik (if coming from AOKP) / Factory Reset (if from another ROM)
5. Toggle your swagger on

What is PUB? Project Unicorn Butter is a side project I've been working on. It has aal the features of AOKP plus Tons of optimizations for speed and smoothness.
Current PUB Optimizations:
Google GCC 4.7 Toolchain

C++11 Mode
Optimized String Handling Routines (Linaro/Sony) (Fascinate May not be using these yet)

CM11 -- Build is done -- Link in OP

Hi Guys,
Today my CM11 build succeeded!!
Link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/uxomzjcjqdug14x/AAC0wf9uRJh2bd3pyESRfDana
Please tell me how it works. Im reaaally curious)
Thanks in advance
I believe @Kali- is already working on it and it's booting and working with few issues, but he's busy with real life stuff. I think the device trees are already up.
Edit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52921260
I'd love to see more devs on the Z2 side of things. Think it will be a slow process due to the rooting issues though

I for one can't wait for a cm/aosp/pac/pa build for the z2
Can't you use dooms prebuilt kernel which has recovery included? Also Sony have released sources for latest fw, it's referenced in one of the two doom kernel threads

EDIT: I expect my first build to be finished in a few hours. I need some beta testers to test the build. Anyone?
I'm willing to test any builds you create btw

If you still need the help, my bootloader is unlocked, and ready to flash.
Been waiting ever since we so that preview picture. Hell, i still dont use my Z2 because its so boring with just stock, still use my Nexus 5. Would be nice to see an AOSP/CM rom sure would get this device more exciting.
Also where is the Freexperia team? Have they closed shop, or are they just busy?

Is kali a memeber of freexperia? Thought he was only on the CM team. It really doesnt matter, it was just that there use to be CM builds and Freexperia so i thought maybe there was a chance they had something going.

Okay guys, here's an update from me.
Yesterday i was almost done compiling when an error showed op. It had to do something with the recovery. Right now i'm trying to use a prebuilt kernel from DoomLord. When i have got a build i'll send you guys an pm with the link!
Thanks for the update

Just out of curiosity, which versions of the Xperia Z2 are you coding for?
Any idea if it will run on the Japanese version? (SO-03F) I'm planning on getting one soon and trying to figure out my rooting options first.
Once I get it I'll of course be willing to be a guinea pig as I've got my current phone as a daily driver backup.

Currently i'm running into this error guys. Does anybody have any idea?

Okay guys
Time for the update:
I fixed the error by adding this line to the boardconfig:
TARGET_NO_SEPARATE_RECOVERY := true
Building again now. Tommorow you'll hear more guys!
Okay guys the build is done!! This time the compile gave no errors!
Right now i'm uploading the builds so you guys can test them!!

This is pretty exciting

CyanogenMod for Pixel v1

FIRST TEST BUILD OUT
Since the MTK variants in the second gen Android One devices have steadfastly been ignored for development, I have taken it upon me to ensure that there is no dearth of top-of-the-line trees for any brave person wanting to build for this device. Here are my sources :
Device Tree : https://github.com/MSF-Jarvis/android_device_google_seedmtk
Common Tree (necessary) : https://github.com/MSF-Jarvis/android_device_google_sprout-common
Kernel Source (untested) : [url]https://github.com/MSF-Jarvis/android_kernel_mediatek_sprout[/URL]
Vendor Tree : https://github.com/MSF-Jarvis/proprietary_vendor_google_seedmtk-2ndgen
NOTE TO TESTERS : Please try getting logcats for me since it is IMPOSSIBLE to do anything without even knowing why something is broken

I am currently negotiating for a server with one of my dear friends, and will commence builds as soon as I can wrangle one out from him
Everyone is welcome to help me out with this project. I tried getting @DHARMESH17 onto it but apparently it seems he's not very interested or dedicated to the cause.
And oh, almost forgot, here's a local manifest to prevent manually cloning things : https://github.com/TeamRedux/local_manifests/tree/cm-13.0-sprout

Details as in??
The kernel source has been imported to my Github and I have also set-up Continuous Integration on it through Travis-CI, build progress can be tracked here.
I would like to thank @akhilnarang whose ThugLife scripts have been used to compile the kernel inside the CI. I couldn't include your name in the commits, but the original copyright notice has been retained in the spirit of open source.
I have been informed through Google Plus that @DHARMESH17 has been in the hospital for some time now, and @faddat is currently in China, so the project has been put on hold for now.
Work will begin tomorrow
You can get the stock source to boot on pixel?
A friend of mine has tried, it dosen't boot

Kernel source? Of course not, I believe it's specific to the first gen sprout devices, as I found out earlier this day. I guess I'll have to end up messing with the device tree and see if I can sneak in a prebuilt kernel somewhere inside. One query though, since you've made an appearance, if I use a custombootimg.mk for userdebug builds, will it prepare the boot.img as per the recipe given there? Because as TWRP maintainer for the htc pico, I have to force it to use LZMA compression for the ramdisk to make it fit, and for that I set a ifeq into the boardconfig to use the customrecoveryimg.mk I put in the device tree, if build variant is eng. If it will work on boot.img and userdebug, then I may very well be able to fool CM's build system and use a prebuilt kernel.
If I'm not making myself clear, please do hop on to #team-redux on freenode and we'll discuss it at length and hopefully arrive at a solution

No need of fooling any system, you can happily use a prebuilt kernel as it is to build CM

AOSP based ROMs are a different story, CyanogenMod raises this exception when you try using a prebuilt kernel :
```
Using a prebuilt kernel is deprecated and not allowed
Please add your kernel source to your BoardConfig.mk
```
Or something to that tune, been months since I ran a compile for any ROM(Server's late in coming, @faddat is a busy man )
I have got a server now, and will commence builds tomorrow. Stay tuned!

It still builds, as long as you've specified the PRODUCT_COPY_FILE properly
Anyway, why did you base your trees on the old cm-12.1 trees of Varun
If you're trying cm-13.0 then base on the latest cm-13.0 from CyanogenMod GitHub

I realised that earlier today, so I rebased my updates onto the snapshot trees and pushed it to my Github. The local manifest has been updated with the new branch as well.
About the prebuilt kernel, you use PRODUCT_COPY_FILES for copying the zImage ?? @thewisenerd once mentioned its a terribly ****ty idea, but you're more updated regarding building and ****, so I'll take your word. Just a quick query, what'll be the out location of the kernel? ($OUT/kernel ??)

Yep
Code:
PRODUCT_COPY_FILES := $(LOCAL_PATH)/kernel:kernel

@akhilnarang, you free some night? I'll be needing help as far as I can see.
Anyways, ever had a problem with cts/apps/ctsVerifier throwing exceptions? My build refuses to start! Not to mention that repo is also being very hard on me, not syncing projects, throwing exceptions while unpacking and ****. Gonna rebase to nightly level, currently on snapshot 1.
