Screen Protectors that work with Bumpers? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am using a Poetic Bumper with a Skinomi front and back skin. There corners keep coming up with the case. Does anybody have any recommendations or have successfully had a bumper/screen protector combination that worked? Thanks.

I'm using the cheap acase screen protectors from amazon. It's 5 bucks for a pack of three. Works well for me.

SGP duals. Best screen protectors for the N4 imo.

I'm using XtremeGuard on the back. If centered properly, it won't even make contact with the bumper.
On the front I've got a dry-apply matte screen protector. Because dry-apply won't curve with the screen, it's narrower than the phone and you can clearly see that there's a screen protector, but I prefer that over the rubbery feel of the wet-apply's.

Best Skins Ever make a case optimised protector

BSE's regular protector works well with the LG bumper (they even explicitly state it's the best version for the OEM bumper on their product page). However for third party bumpers like the Poetic they seem to recommend the case optimized version instead...
I have a pair on of the BSE regular front and back on my LG bumper and can confirm there's been no peeling as well as minimal gap between the bumper and the screen protector. But it does feel rubbery and has slight orange peel. I'd probably imagine the SGP would be better quality in those two points. However, it's been stated that they make those smaller so you tend to have a bigger gap between bumper and screen protector edge.

Why is the Nexus 4 so prone to scratches?

So, this is an amazing phone. I just came from my Nexus One and I absolutely love it. However, the fact that the screen scratches so easily bugs the living heck out of me. I mean, it's just from when I pocket it and there is nothing I can do about it. How come it scratches so much compared to my phones in the past? I've reverted back to my Nexus One until my pouch comes here.
Also, anyone able to recommend some screen protectors that actually feel like glass that cover the whole phone? Would love to use those, but can't find any that don't feel like rubber or something, and I prefer that glass feeling.
My favourite screen protectors ever: http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/google/nexus-4.html
I'm personally rocking a SGP Spigen Dual Protector for days when I want to run my Nexus 4 naked. You can barely tell that there's a screen protector on the front and back.
I came from the Nexus One as well, but I haven't had any problem with the screen (or any other part of the N4) scratching. No screen protectors, but I am using a pouch from Waterfield Designs. Not saying OP is wrong; just saying that it's possible to do just fine with naked phone + pouch if screen protectors aren't your thing.
Had no problems with nexus 4 screen unlike my old galaxy nexus but just ordered best skin ever for awesome protection

Is there a screen protector that fits and has cutouts

I've bought several from ebay and Amazon, but all are deficient in some ways
I'm still looking for a screen protector that is the correct size, has all the cutouts and stays on for at least 2 months. I don't want an "Invisible shield", as I found them to be too thick, and still got scratched, and they reneged on their "lifetime" warranty, last time I tried to claim.
There are plenty for iphones, galaxy's.
I'm in England, so either Amazon or ebay, that sells internationally.
Best Skins Ever
Skinomi. Mine fits well. It has all of the cut outs. It has been in place for a month without any issues.
Give them a shot.

I myself have ordered the Clarivue ones 2 for 20 dollars they ship to the UK as well and offer both front and back protectors. Saw some pictures of it on the net and they seem good.
I myself got some cheap eBay ones but they don't stick to the edge and lift up on my cases.

These are the best screen protectors you can buy for the Nexus 4:
http://www.spigen.com/google-nexus-4-screen-protector-steinheil.html
They include a proper cut-out and I can't even tell I'm using a screen protector

I'm using these. They fit nice and hace cut-outs. Nexus 4 Screen Protector Steinheil Dual
The skin that best matches what your looking for is BestSkinsEver. However, I love my SkinomiTech Skin and their customer service is awesome. Its a little bit thick though which I do not have any problem with.
Spigen is the best one especially when you're talking about the back.

I've just left on the factory fitted one and put some extra protection over the camera lens, then I use a white TPU case
Works for me
I have tried 4 different screen protectors and what has worked best for me is the Skinomi Techskin screen protectors. Pretty happy with it as it has all the cutouts and covers the whole screen.

If you are looking for something affordable and great quality try the Xtreme guard. Got front and back protectors for just $4.00. Their customer service is great too. I will most likely get screen protectors from them in the future for other devices.

I found that Xtremeguard was cheap for a reason. The screen protector has a rubber texture and does not feel good when using the device. I'd recommend dry applications as they would feel better.
Spigen has quite the short sides; it will not cover all. Even with a perfect fit, a diztronic case cannot lip over to meet the screen protector. I also think Martin Fields would make great screen protector, although expensive.

The OP is looking for screen protector that has a perfect fit. Only wet application protectors will satisfy this criteria.
The dry app ones will not cover the curves on the front of the phone.
I'd suggest you to go with skinomi or bse. You wont be disappointed.
I guess like many things- cars, steaks, women, computers - cheap and good rarely go together.
I'll try some of these suggestions.

Front & back screen protector to go with bumper?

Hi all,
I want to buy front and back screen protector to go with Google's bumper. I think to get the SGP Ultra Crystal or the ADB Just Like Glass.
Which one will be better?
Thank you

I say dbrand skins.
i'd personnally go with the SGP, its a trustable brand and with highqualit product and $13 is not much
The only brand who claims that their protectors protect from breaks is DBA, and that is very important to me.
Anyone with experience?
Amzer shatterproof can resist a full on hammer hit. Get it for the front and an invisisheild for the back. (30$ for amzer and 13$ for invisisheild on eBay)

I personally have the official bumper case and SPG ultra clear combo.
The only dislike I have is the fact that the screen protector is not edge to edge on top and bottom of the screen (about 2mm~ on each end). The same for the protector on the back. Also the left and right sides of the screen protector is cut to avoid the curved edges, so you will feel the edge of the screen protector when you swipe from the edge of the screen.
It does attract a lot of oil so be prepared to give it a wipe now and again.
The Amzer is too expensive for just front protection, so i'll pass.
I have really good experience with SGP SPs, but I read somewhere that the SGP is not with perfect cut, in that matter the ADB is better, the oil is in most SPs so that doesn't concerns me too much.
Right now I have the SGP Dual protectors, and i'm loving it. People have said that the screen protector was too big and had a little excess going over the curve, but i don't have that problem. You just gotta put it on right. and as for the fact that the screen protector isn't screen to screen, it's something you can overlook even without a case. I personally don't mind. The fact that I know I don't have to worry about it getting scratched so easily puts my mind at ease. It's really your preference. If you don't have a case/bumper, then you can get a wet install to get edge to edge coverage. If you have a case, the SGP dual protectors really do the job.
+1 on the SGP Dual Protectors.

Xtremeguard vs Ghost Armor body protectors?

I was at the local mall and stopped by the ghost armor kiosk and a guy that worked there had a nexus 4 and I must say the protection seemed to be pretty good. They charge around $40 for full body protection installed (seems kind of expensive for screen protection). The question I had was how does Ghost Armor compare to Xtremeguard? I know Xtremeguard is much cheaper (wondering if that's for a reason).

I haven't had a chance to try out the Ghost Armor, but from a price point, it's hard to complain about the Xtremeguard protector...check out the review I did for some free information. Basically, the Xtremeguard is really good bang for buck price, but I know many people (including myself) aren't a big fan of the surface of the screen protector. The back for the N4 is pretty much no complaints. Only the front is a concern.

Can't comment on the other but I have xtremeguard and love it. Pros: I've reapplied this thing like 6 times. Once my cat knocked it off the table and the back side got dirty, took a paper towel and cleaned it up. Still sticks and holds very well. Feels as though it would protect the phone. Cons: peels often with both my poetic bumper as well as my mybat case. Also like the video commented, it's not glass, it's rubbery and therefore the screen have some orange peel effect.

I've the ghost armor, and it's almost perfect except for:
- High price
- A little bit difficult to apply. You have less than 3 seconds to align the protector, and the soap solution is not included on the pack.
You can hardly see that there's a protector, and the orange peel is less than expected.
I recommend it.

Less than 3 seconds... That sucks. I'd like to get my hands on one to see for myself, the i can compare the two. How can you recommend it if it's a bit difficult to apply? Lol

Ghost armor is great. Better than skinomi and you have more than 3 seconds to apply... I've tried almost all brands of protectors and for the n4, I'd go with the ghost armor.
Side note - skinomi rubber squeegee is better than the ghost armor one imo.
I ordered the Xtremeguard protectors since they were only $5 for four. I really like the factory screen protector, still using it with no issues at all. It's just the back protector started to bubble near the edge from when I took the bumper off. If the Xtreme guard doesn't work I'll try the Ghost Armor since it seems to be very good.

From my experience, I had absolutely no problems with the back from Xtremeguard so I don't expect you to have it either. As you may know, I'm using the Poetic Borderline, but didn't find problems with that combo. The front for me was a bit more of a hassle, especially with that minor orange peel. But let us know how it goes and if you do get the Ghost Armor later, definitely interested in testing that out if you do get it!
I just received my xtreme guard, 1 week from the USA to UK!

I use Xtremeguard its kind of rubbery and you lose some screen clarity due to this. But it can be easily re-applied if the need arises. also that self heal ability is quite good.

I'll let you know how it works. Is the orange peel created by how you put it on or is it just how the screen protector looks? The ghost armor protector I saw on the nexus 4 didn't have the orange peel look at all. I'm also using the poetic bumper and haven't had any issues with it yet but I've heard a lot of people mention issues they've had.

I have a ghost armor and can say it's worth it for the price you pay. Very minimal orange peel which you can not see unless you stare and look for it. Lifetime warranty too whenever you decide to change it. I've tried bse, XG, and SGP and while all are good I'm glad I pulled the trigger with ghost armor.

Yes, it was created by how I put it on. Basically I have the worst luck when it comes to this stuff. I tried filming the actual install but it was too hard and I ended up editing it. So I think if I had didn't film from the start, there wouldn't be too much (if at all) orange peel.
I did try to reapply the front again and it doesn't work well (my fault, not protector ) and the bumper definitely got in the way on the second time I applied it.

I had the dude install it. Came out to 35 front and back and I passed on the sides (since I have a bumper case). They offered 10% off with it so yeah.

I got xtremeguard and I am quite pleased with it! I have bought Skinomi and Invisible Shield(since way back when) in the past and I feel that Xtremeguard is just as good. From memory, it is smoother and less orange peel looking. Not sure if it is dust/lint that snuck in during installation, but I have a group of white bubbles in some areas that are not fully adhered. Speaking of lint, it came with a yellow cloth that I knew not to use but it was on the screen when I applied and got between the protector and my phone. Luckily I was able to dye it black with my gel pen!
I've attached some pics.
The Xtremeguard protectors I ordered arrived today. I just finished installing the front and back protectors (I ordered 2 of each) and must say that I agree with what most people have said about them. The back looks fine (but I think it's because of the texture of the nexus 4 back, so it hides a lot of things). The front protector does feel a little rubbery. I haven't noticed the orange peel affect yet. I'm assuming that may start to come after a day or so? Also received one bad back protector that had already been peeled and had some paper stuck to the adhesive side (so I couldn't use that one). The two front protectors have a couple small white specs on the adhesive side that couldn't be removed. I emailed Xtremeguard about this to see if they can send me a replacement. Overall I think the screen protectors are okay but from what I saw at the Ghost armor Kiosk, the Ghost Armor protectors are better from a look and feel perspective.
I have had the Xtremegaurd protector on my N4 for about a week and a half now, and I still haven't gotten the orange peel effect. My case (ringke fusion) does lift up the side of the screen protector next to the power button, and I am thinking about trimming the side of the protector off so it doesn't rap around the glass to avoid this problem. My fingers also seem to almost stick to the screen sometimes, and it seems like it gets dirty extremely easily, but these are minor issues.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the back screen protector does not play well at all with the case. It leaves a horrible wet look, and is very unattractive. I ordered a dbrand skin though, so hopefully that fixes the problem.

I have the diztronic mate black tpu using the SGP ultra crystal screen protector. Screen protector is slightly cut smaller due to rounded edges. Took of the case a few times no effect on screen protector. I must say that I just got the phone today, so I'm not sure what will happend overtime.

Seems like you really need a short cut screen protector with this case.

Rearth Ringbo pairs nicely with the Diztronic TPU case.
If you don't mine wet application Best Skins Ever makes a Case Optimized (slightly smaller to accommodate a case) screen protector. It's what I use with the Poetic Bumper. Don't have Diztronic to test but a Cruzerlite is in route. BestSkinsEver

I just got the case optimized screen protector from BSE. it is a little bit wider than the original sp that was shipped on the device from the manufacturer. Because of the additional width one of the corners has peeled up so I won't be taking the case off any time soon.

Seconded. Somebody on XDA said XtremeGuard went well with the TPU case- he mentioned a 2nd batch that supposedly had the right proportions, so i ordered one.
NOPE.
Started peeling off as soon as i applied the case. Removed it completely.
I really like the Diztronic case, but i wish it would ship with a screen protector like Nillkin does - a small one that fits with the case.
I might leave my N4 without any screen protection. Just the TPU case and my good old leather HTC pouch.

I have an xo skins case optimized but haven't taken the bse case optimized off yet to try. The diz does not play well with the bse by the way. Peeled the normal and case fit ones.
