I know there are several ways to tweak the color settings on the Nexus 4 if you use certain kernels, including the RGB 0-255 values and contrast settings through apps such as the paid version of the Franco.kernel updater. I've fooled around with these a bit, and I like the contrast settings but usually roll back to defaults because they are noticeably dimmer than defaults, which is likely to make me turn up the brightness and use more battery. What I'm wondering is if there's a way to remove all color from the display and use a black and white rendering instead? It isn't out of any necessity, I'm just curious and sometimes like reading certain things in B&W because unnecessary colors in ads or UI elements can be distracting. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is it possible to change somehow the tint of luminescence display? Make it more warm or cold. Display in my SGS has a very cold shade, a lot of blue. I would like to add a little red to align white.
It's a characteristic of AMOLED screen. As you use it longer, the blue tint will start reducing.
Though that doesn't change the fact that the possibility to change or affect white point and/or gamma of the display would sometimes come quite handy. The color temperature of Galaxy's display is indeed quite high, yet it is so good picture-wise that this becomes an issue (ie. when viewing photos).
Just open any movie with the stock video player. Go to Settings and then Colour Tone. It will affect the whole system.you have 3 options warmer, normal and colder. Hope this will help

That's a great tip, thanks! Even though it's most likely just a bug
So you obviously can alter the display's color temperature system wide somehow. I wonder if this could be made into an app with customizable warmth settings... Too bad I'm not a programmer...

Menu - settings - 3º option
It appears blank on my phone, but leads you to temperature settings
The screen has a blue reflection when off. I also tested it playing the same video on the phone and on my laptop (300 nits LED screen) and the video on the phone was defintely more green-blue.
This is more noticeable on low brightness setting, try it on Kindle app, test settings, you have a slider for brightness. You'll see how low brightness leads to a blue-green tint, not neutral gray.
if some one could could develop an app for the sgs that does this i would pay.
settings menu is only available if you start the videoplayer app and select a video to play within.
if you start a video from the gallery, there is no option

Is the galaxy s i9000 different in this respect from the samsung vibrant. My vibrant does allow me to adjust color tone in the video player, but IT DOES NOT change the color tone of the WHOLE SYSTEM. Once I exit out of the player, everything is back to blue. Also the warm tone in the video player looks fake, just applies red on top of the blue, looks weird.
Okay, so as the title says, the screen on my VZW GS4 seems to be changing the hue depending on what colors are being shown on different parts of the screen. For example, when I get a text and the little green icon pops up in my notification bar, the whites on the screen darken, and as soon as the icon is gone, they go back to normal.
The same thing happens in the youtube app. When playing full screen videos colors get lighter (and more unrealistic) and then when I click on the screen and the pause button and other menu buttons shows up, the colors darken and become more realistic.
I've turned Adapt Display off and this happens whether it in Dynamic, Standard, or any other of the display modes. This strange behavior is very familiar when the phone is set to the lowest brightness.
Anyone know why this might be happening or know a possible solution?
Menu | Settings | Display | Auto Adjust Screen
Tones
Just tried that and it still seems to be doing it. It'd quite annoying especially when in apps with dark backgrounds or night themes. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Is there a way to adjust the color temperature of the screen to a more natural white? I have tried the few screen modes in the settings but the Cinema one is still not very natural to me.
Is there an xposed framework mod or Rom that can do this?
Thanks.
I'm looking for it too. Tried some screen adjusters apps but the result wasn't really good as they just apply a filter layer above. I was used to my Note 2 color temperature wich is pretty higher than the 6500k reference resulting in a colder white. The Note 4 display in fact is more acurate, but I found it too warm for me. Whites seem a little pink to my taste. Wish I could raise the value, but I guess we must wait for a custom kernel with this capability.
One quick tip that might help.
Go into accessibility visual settings. Do the thing with the color adjustment and intentionally get them wrong. then move the slider almost all the way to the left.
You will no longer get to modify the adapt dispaly photo mode settings... but it will give a color temp somewhere in between.
you can alwyas set a triple click to shortcut to accessibility to disable it.
Oh thanks! Still not perfect but quite better this way. And without need of dirty kernel tricks.
I think the note 4 screen is too warm.
Is there any solution to make it cooler?

Just compare it to screen of Note 3, and you will not want it anymore :cyclops: It is much more warmer!
Hi
So let's take a break from pursuing after Lollipop and improve what we have
Well, many of us know that a report came out suggesting that 'blue light' emitting from screens of mobile phones, TVs, PCs etc is harmful to the eye and causes sleeping problems.
And then many apps started coming out which remove/filter the blue light from phone screens, such as Bluelight Filter, Dark Screen, Twilight etc.
These apps do what they say but :-
1) They don't do it perfectly
2) You have to manually disable them each time you install something or grant superuser access to an app
3) Few of them consume fair amount of battery
4) And some people may be annoyed by the fact that it always stays on the notification bar.
So here's another the way of removing the blue light without causing any of the above mentioned problems
The way is to change the kernel settings, rather the screen color settings by using kernel tweaking apps like Faux123, Trickster Mod etc which almost every custom kernel user has.
So open your kernel tweaking app and go to' Screen' settings or 'Screen Color' settings or whatever is there and just reduce the quantity of the blue color according to your preference
I have attached a screenshot of blue light being reduced using Trickster Mod app.
Don't forget to hit thanks if this helps
Thanks for the tip,
I've seen someone using bluelight filter app with his z3 compact, i couldn't figure why. Now i know. The screen of his phone looked pinky though.

Which version of trickster mod did you use, i do not see anything related to screen settings in the version i have
I don't have the option to do that by the way
There are 2 methods for blue light filtering:
Apps that recalibrate the display via KCAL. These require root access and usually give better results in terms of color reproduction because they can adjust backlight (for LCDs) and gamma. Not all displays support recalibration, though, and some ROMs may not have KCAL support built in. Recommended: Night Light
Apps that draw a darkening overlay. Root access is required to draw over the status bar, hide the overlay on screenshots and keep sensitive tasks (like confirming an app installation) working when the filter is active. Works well especially on OLED displays. Mildly reduces color quality because less than 256 steps of brightness will be available for the color channels you dim. Recommended: Red Moon
There is no harm in trying either app, they are both open source. They don't apply permanent changes so you can just uninstall them if you have issues. Check if you can add the app to drop-down system shortcuts for convenient control.
