Matte screen protector - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody know any matte screen protector that doesn't degrade the screen colour? I am currently using SPG clear screen protector but my fingerprints get all over the screen every time I use my phone.

I am using the citigeeks one:
amazon dot com/CitiGeeks%C2%AE-Anti-Glare-Protector-Fingerprint-Resistant/dp/B00B2YLLDS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361382645&sr=8-1&keywords=citigeek+nexus+4+matte
Application is very easy and the matte effect is great, while not noticeably degrading screen quality at all.

Basically, All no colour Matte Screen Protector will not degrade the screen colour
but will degrade the Screen Quality, Resolution and the feel.

I love the techarmor ones. I have installed them on my N7 and S3 and they are perfect they come with lifetime warranty but i contacted techarmor to see if they were making for the N4 and apperently they do make them there just out of stock and the rep said they will be on stock within a week.

Same here, the screen is too valuable on the tab to get scratched imo ...
I've ordered this one for my SGS
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VWR2GO/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
The review I've read was saying it was pretty good, barely noticable, wich is a must considering a big plus on samsung's products are the screen.
I'll see if it's worthy, if it is, I'll order this one for the tab:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...TJV_2?ie=UTF8&m=A1E9T6XPH2ITJV&n=&s=&v=glance
(anyone has it already?)
I had one on originally, but got the newton rings and sent it back. I never bothered putting one on my new tab. I actually much prefer the feel of it without the screen protector. I have a case that covers the screen when I'm not using it, so I feel the risk of scratching is minimal. The protector just felt sort of rubbery, while the bare glass feels really smooth and slick. Could be the brand of screen protector. But I don't see much of a benefit of putting one on at this point.
But I do have 4 kids, so maybe you don't want take my advice on using supplemental protection...
Yep, don't feel right unless i do. I use a zagg from best buy, since they have never died on me.
Nope, I just use the official Samsung "book cover" case. Why would I want to cover such a sexy, smooth glass screen with a piece of plastic?
I did, and took it off weeks after. No matter what protector you use, it will diminish the quality of the screen. I tried the Zagg and BodyGuardz and when I took them off again, I realized that the screen is too sexy to be hindered. It's Gorilla Glass people; it doesn't scratch that easily. I have my tablet with a TPU case and I have no scratches so far. Just be careful where you put it and you're good to go.
I'm a huge fan of Matte finish anti-glare screen protectors. My tab is sporting one, so is my Galaxy S2...other protectors just get covered in fingerprints as well as not having one on... you should try it. Some people like them some don't... IMO best type of screen protectors.

I've had mine since they first day that Samsung sold the Tab and have never used a screen protector. Not a single scratch or mark on the screen.
Tablets are different than phones. Generally people chose a case that closes over the screen. It's not like you're going to put it in your pocket and get the screen scratched by your keys.
If your case doesn't close to cover the screen or you don't use a case all the time then it might be recommended to use a screen protector. Otherwise the only thing that should come in contact with the screen is your finger or a stylus. Unless, of course, you drop it.
I have had mine since launch with no screen protector and no scratches. It might be a question you have to ask yourself, as far as how much wear and tear will your tab see? It's not like a phone I keep in my pocket and carry everywhere (although I do take my tablet just about everywhere) that can get scratched by keys and the like.
+1 on matte protectors. Also, get a full body protector (sides and back are not scratch resistant!)
I, personally, can't stand the matte ones. It makes the screen look too grainy

I use a bookcase and screen protector. I usually take care of my electronics but somehow I managed to get some small scratches on my screen. I am not sure if they came from using my dagi stylus or from the cloth I use to wipe it with (dry booger perhaps). If you plan on using a stylus I would go for a screen protector. I am currently using one from Belkin but wouldn't really recommend it. I applied as pr instruction but it has an oily look to it. I spoke to their customer service and they said they would send me a new one but haven't received it yet (2 weeks).

I love matte ones but again the rainbow effect annoys me, so I found this SGP Ultra Fine - they advertise it as NO RAINBOW effects (link)
Does anyone here uses this and know it to be true or know if any other screen protectors do this?
I'm quite annoyed at the fact that the screen isn't oleophobic, attracts too many fingerprints !
Cheers
Never used them on SGS or Tab. Screens still look as good as new.

Nope... I have the Samsung case which protects the tablet well and as others have said it's Gorilla glass, so it doesn't scratch easily. The screen is too nice to cover it up.
I also don't have one on my sgs2 which is always in my pocket (nothing else in the same pocket) and it doesn't have any scratches after about 7 months.
I really question the use of cases and screen protectors for phones... In 2-3 years you are likely gonna change phones anyway... Why rob yourself of the smoother and better looking screen? So that it's still in good shape when you get rid of it? ? ? I'd rather enjoy the phone to it's full potential while I use it with the risk of getting scratches than keeping it in pristine shape for when it ends up in a drawer or in someone else's hands.

Many times 2-3 years is a longer time than I think is actual. More like 1-2.
But on point, because a device without scratches on on the screen can bring twice as much used than one with scratches.
Just my two cents.

Anti-Glare Screen Protector for DEFY

Does anyone have a Matte screen protector? What about the quality?
Does it look better than glossy?
And is it real that the fingers don't grip anymore on the screen?

I never noticed a problem like that during the short time I had the matte one in place.
I've got one. Don't know about the brand, but the quality is kinda nice. Obviously, since we've got a Gorilla Glass, it won't be as scratch-proof as using no screen protector at all, but the look is amazing, the touch feeling is also great, and I've got no issues with touch anymore (before I was getting oversensitive touch due to sweating and dust, like when typing it got stuck on a key, and I had to turn off screen, clean it, then turn it back on and continue typing). Also, no peeling after some time (like I got with my previous glossy protector), just it's more susceptible to scratch.
K3n, where did you got one? (Brasil aqui também )
I've got the matte one of amzer.. and im liking it

Best part is It's smug free and finger prints is no more a problem.

yeah..me too..it made the touch unnatural.
i have an anti-glare screen protector too, and i find it great. no more fingerprints, i like the feel of the screen much more. yeah, it reduces clarity, but i dont think it reduces visibility or brightness. and mine is perfectly scratch resistant.
i have this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-X-MATTE-A...ccessories&hash=item3a750f6912#ht_2445wt_1270
I like the matte too. Bought from here
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-3x-MATT...Accessories&hash=item45ff31e71c#ht_3878wt_932
and are a lot tougher than the cheapo screen protectors I have had in the past. It seemed a bit odd to start with with the friction but I am sure it 'smoothed off' after a week or two.

anti glare sp are generally smoother, and since our defy doesn't have those super clear amoled screen, we didn't loss much.
Ok, here it goes. I had the matte screen protector for around 6 months on my phone. After that time, it started peeling off (not too much of an issue, the whole peeling was off the screen), got heavily scratched and my touch issues came back, most likely because of the scratches. So, I decided to take it off. After that 6 months, I noticed how much clarity it took from the screen, it seemed like a different phone. The colors are way more vivid, almost like an AMOLED screen. So, here is my advice: get a glossy one. The feel of the protector is not that good after some time, and the amount of clarity lost on the screen is a price way too high to pay.
i tried a matte and a glare screen protector but the glare one is a bit nicer because the other one takes too much light....but it is in both cases a bit better for gliding over the screen
Matte is awesome!!
Well i use a amzer matte finish screen Guard , and i love it.
the slight texture on it makes the screen feel Awesome...
BUT you may not like the loss of clarity .....
I never buy expensive screen protectors as it always seems to take at least three tries until I get a completely flush and bubble free finish.
I got these matte protectors a while back from ebay and they've perfectly good.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-3x-MA...203932?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item45ff31e71c
I wanted matte as I use the phone as a cycle computer/satnav and it certainly helps with the glare. Yes, they are smoother and the screen does not look as clear but they definitely do the job if you need to cut down glare.

I've just checked my ebay feedback and they came surprisingly quickly from HK, 8 days from ordering to arriving on the doorstep (I'm in UK).
Normally stuff from HK ebay sellers takes around 2 weeks unless it's dealextreme when it can take any time up to 8 years

I never re-use screen protectors as they never stay completely clean and dust free to reapply without bubbles. At the price of these, it's not much of an issue. I have had the same protector on since April so they are decent quality and will last. You never know when buying things from ebay; the screen protectors that they sell now may not be exactly the same as the ones I bought in Aptil.
thanks mate... now waiting for the screen gaurd!

Matte or Clear ???

Hey guys just want to know what you prefer to use, matte or clear screen protector?
I use 1 of each on my two Nexus 7's, and cant really decide what to settle for.

I'll buck the trend and say clear. I've found matte screen protectors mess with the screen image (soften it). While clear screen protectors retain a sharper image. Plus they keep the glassy feel of the screen. Matte protectors do not feel as slick.

+1 matte kind of degrades the screen quality, makes things pixels stand out, and makes this weird rainbow effect on the screen, especially with white images
Plus I like the look and feel of the glassy, glossy protectors
But you guys are right about the feel of the matte ones, they feel the best but look terrible imo
Well unless your rough on it don't use one. Its sup post to scratch resistant as is lol and matte does make the screen quality go way down

Clear. I find the matte ones create some distortion of the screen and it didn't look as good.

Definitely a clear one.
In my opinion, the matte just ruins the quality of the images on your screen. The clear one does leave smudges, but it's a small price to pay considering what the matte does to your viewing experience.
I use matte on my desire HD phone because I use it for navigation. I tried using the nexus 7 for navigation and it really rocks. Try using your nexus for navigation on a bright sunny day with clear protector, and try it with matte, you will SEE the difference.
All about the matte protectors on my devices, I love the smoothness

Xtremeguard vs Ghost Armor body protectors?

I was at the local mall and stopped by the ghost armor kiosk and a guy that worked there had a nexus 4 and I must say the protection seemed to be pretty good. They charge around $40 for full body protection installed (seems kind of expensive for screen protection). The question I had was how does Ghost Armor compare to Xtremeguard? I know Xtremeguard is much cheaper (wondering if that's for a reason).
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I haven't had a chance to try out the Ghost Armor, but from a price point, it's hard to complain about the Xtremeguard protector...check out the review I did for some free information. Basically, the Xtremeguard is really good bang for buck price, but I know many people (including myself) aren't a big fan of the surface of the screen protector. The back for the N4 is pretty much no complaints. Only the front is a concern.

Can't comment on the other but I have xtremeguard and love it. Pros: I've reapplied this thing like 6 times. Once my cat knocked it off the table and the back side got dirty, took a paper towel and cleaned it up. Still sticks and holds very well. Feels as though it would protect the phone. Cons: peels often with both my poetic bumper as well as my mybat case. Also like the video commented, it's not glass, it's rubbery and therefore the screen have some orange peel effect.

I've the ghost armor, and it's almost perfect except for:
- High price
- A little bit difficult to apply. You have less than 3 seconds to align the protector, and the soap solution is not included on the pack.
You can hardly see that there's a protector, and the orange peel is less than expected.
I recommend it.

Ghost armor is great. Better than skinomi and you have more than 3 seconds to apply... I've tried almost all brands of protectors and for the n4, I'd go with the ghost armor.
Side note - skinomi rubber squeegee is better than the ghost armor one imo.
I ordered the Xtremeguard protectors since they were only $5 for four. I really like the factory screen protector, still using it with no issues at all. It's just the back protector started to bubble near the edge from when I took the bumper off. If the Xtreme guard doesn't work I'll try the Ghost Armor since it seems to be very good.

From my experience, I had absolutely no problems with the back from Xtremeguard so I don't expect you to have it either. As you may know, I'm using the Poetic Borderline, but didn't find problems with that combo. The front for me was a bit more of a hassle, especially with that minor orange peel. But let us know how it goes and if you do get the Ghost Armor later, definitely interested in testing that out if you do get it!

I use Xtremeguard its kind of rubbery and you lose some screen clarity due to this. But it can be easily re-applied if the need arises. also that self heal ability is quite good.

I'll let you know how it works. Is the orange peel created by how you put it on or is it just how the screen protector looks? The ghost armor protector I saw on the nexus 4 didn't have the orange peel look at all. I have a ghost armor and can say it's worth it for the price you pay. Very minimal orange peel which you can not see unless you stare and look for it. Lifetime warranty too whenever you decide to change it. I've tried bse, XG, and SGP and while all are good I'm glad I pulled the trigger with ghost armor.

Yes, it was created by how I put it on. Basically I have the worst luck when it comes to this stuff. I tried filming the actual install but it was too hard and I ended up editing it. So I think if I had didn't film from the start, there wouldn't be too much (if at all) orange peel.
I did try to reapply the front again and it doesn't work well (my fault, not protector ) and the bumper definitely got in the way on the second time I applied it.

I got xtremeguard and I am quite pleased with it! I have bought Skinomi and Invisible Shield(since way back when) in the past and I feel that Xtremeguard is just as good. From memory, it is smoother and less orange peel looking. Not sure if it is dust/lint that snuck in during installation, but I have a group of white bubbles in some areas that are not fully adhered. Speaking of lint, it came with a yellow cloth that I knew not to use but it was on the screen when I applied and got between the protector and my phone. Luckily I was able to dye it black with my gel pen!
I've attached some pics.
The Xtremeguard protectors I ordered arrived today. I just finished installing the front and back protectors (I ordered 2 of each) and must say that I agree with what most people have said about them. The back looks fine (but I think it's because of the texture of the nexus 4 back, so it hides a lot of things). The front protector does feel a little rubbery. I haven't noticed the orange peel affect yet. I'm assuming that may start to come after a day or so? Also received one bad back protector that had already been peeled and had some paper stuck to the adhesive side (so I couldn't use that one). The two front protectors have a couple small white specs on the adhesive side that couldn't be removed. I emailed Xtremeguard about this to see if they can send me a replacement. Overall I think the screen protectors are okay but from what I saw at the Ghost armor Kiosk, the Ghost Armor protectors are better from a look and feel perspective.
I have had the Xtremegaurd protector on my N4 for about a week and a half now, and I still haven't gotten the orange peel effect. My case (ringke fusion) does lift up the side of the screen protector next to the power button, and I am thinking about trimming the side of the protector off so it doesn't rap around the glass to avoid this problem. My fingers also seem to almost stick to the screen sometimes, and it seems like it gets dirty extremely easily, but these are minor issues.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the back screen protector does not play well at all with the case. It leaves a horrible wet look, and is very unattractive. I ordered a dbrand skin though, so hopefully that fixes the problem.

If you put your phone in your pocket you should have a screen protector on it. Anyone that says otherwise is wrong. Sand and dirt can scratch your glass, gorilla glass or not. Get an SGP and it won't mess up your touch experience all that much

Starts a few cm's from the top and goes just over half way down the screen on the left hand side, and it's not a straight line. As you say it's only noticeable on darker screens.

If you put your phone in your pocket you should have a screen protector on it. Anyone that says otherwise is wrong. Sand and dirt can scratch your glass, gorilla glass or not. Get an SGP and it won't mess up your touch experience all that much

Wrong huh? Never had a screen protector on anything with gorilla glass. I work for a railroad and my job could be dirty at times. Guess where my nexus 4 goes, yup in my pocket. Guess how many scratches are on my screen, zero. Luck? Maybe. Product doing what its supposed to? I think so. Best part about it, I'm anal about my electronics. The screen protectors mess up the screen images pretty bad, no matter how good the screen protector is. I had a gs3 once and dropped it clear on its screen onto pavement. Not one scratch. Your luck may be worse than mine, take my experience lightly because others luck may run thin. I will never buy another worthless waste of money that diminishes the experience of the beautiful screens we are provided. Now with that said if you find that you must absolutely have a screen protector, the last one I bought was for an atrix HD/wet application version for my wife. Installed properly by steaming out a bathroom, being absolutely certain there was zero dust on the screen and following directions to a T that thing was absolutely invisible and clear as day, with zero orange peel, it still changed the appearance though.
