myTouch 4G - Issue with more than one ROMs - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been trying some CM101/AOKP/AOSP as well as Sense ROMs On-n-Off and lately facing the same issue,
- After a while the phone staying locked, it becomes unresponsive and then I'd to either reboot or pull battery out ...
- Sometimes the phone acts hanged and then I need to pull the battery ...
Somehow, I've experienced this with all the ROMs, so may be my 2 Yr old soldier is retiring or there is some fix I can do ...
Note ~ for all the ROMs, I always did full wipe and flashed them ...

Ah, I can't imagine to go back to Gingerbread !! I will keep observing, if so, I will go back.
Btw, any suggestions for a good stable GB ROM except stock ...

ROM issues
It could be happening because of an app you're running. I had a similar issue with multiple ROMs, it turned out to be Swype was the culprit. I'd try either running one of those ROMs without anything additional installed, apps or backed up data, or see what's running that didn't come with the ROM and freeze them.

Thanks, sounds like a plan ...
Because every time I installed a ROM, I use TiBu to restore everything ... And I did switches between ICS <-> JB ...

I recently used mG.mW_WiLdFiRe.zip it was pretty much stock gb with wifi calling that actually worked great. If you want something different I'd look at cyanogen mod 7 they had stable 2.3 roms.
I'm trying to find a good stable ICS rom that won't boot loop on me :-/

[Q] Which ROM would you recommend?

Hello,
I am trying to flash a better ROM for my sister's Galaxy 3, currently the one came with the phone is super laggy and slow. I am coming from the X10 Mini Pro forum, and we only have like 3 custom ROM there, but it seems Galaxy 3 have quite a lot more choices...
I am wondering which one is the currently most stable ROM here that have the lag issue fixed? I flash my X10 quite often, but i don't plan on flash and re-flash my sister's phone. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
i would recommend jpm+jit enabled.....
i am cureently using the same....and i am quite happy with it....
I am a advance user, like i said, i flash my X10 pretty much every time the xda developer come out with a hotfix or a newer version of their ROM, the current ROM that i am running on my X10 have stuff like hybrid Foyo/Gingerbread, overclock, undervolt, jit etc. Is not 100% stable, and i need to force close some stuff once in a while, but i have no problem with it.
I don't mind flashing a custom ROM, as long as one of its release is stable (since this will be for my sister's phone, which is a noob).
However, won't the "stock XXJPM or JPN" still have the lag issue though? I thought all the OEM ROM have the lag issue?

"This ROM is fast.. no known bugs(only the camera bug), restarts, laggs etc.."
My sister uses the camera for SURE.

hmm... i really tought it was stable... then you can make your own custom rom via Team Lambent Corrosion kitchen and if you want ROM without problems, a "buggless beast" then dont flash any ROMs
I suggest it too, it has Fugumod, the latest firmware and some bug fixes...

Shouldn't you be plugging your own ROM?
That aside, I think stock JPM will do her a treat. Or then deodexed + JIT + Fugutweaks. The camera is an issue pretty much in every rom and it can be avoided by disabling the location stuff. Or it could be someone has a fixed Camera.apk laying around somewhere. If so, let me know, I want it.

no i was thinking that destiny might be the most stable ROM here and thats why i suggested it and as i said EVERY rom has bugs but i tought destiny didnt... and people should just try GreenMods ROM i dont want to say its the best, i know when people test it they will love it i dont have to recommend it

Hum.. i know X10 Mini Pro's ROM has Camera.apk that came with it, and works, but i prefer the Sony Ericsson's SECMCamera.apk instead. So i swapped it out. I wonder if that Camera.apk would work on Galaxy 3...
I think i will try to download and gather up the above mentioned 2 ROMs, and try it out this weekend then...

[Q] Best rom for HTC Magic?

Hello everybody and excuse me for starting a new thread. I would like to know wich is the best custom rom for HTC Magic, a friend of mine gave me his phone to flash a custom rom, he has no idea of flashing roms and he is amazed by my custom roms on Galaxy S. As long as i know the phone is rooted( i verified with Titanium Backup)
and i will follow the steps for flashing something on this device. All i want to know is what should i install for him? I just want something stable. Thank you!
Honestly if you want something stable and good on battery life, stay stock and just theme the stock rom. . . it's less hassle, don't have to worry about flashing radios, spl's, or worrying about a bug .ect .
I've used CM6, and ezGingerbread. . . unfortunately none of these froyo rom's worked for me after the 1st boot so i went back to stock and themed mines .

I've been pretty happy with the DreamTeam Froyo ROM. It's been very stable and in my experience the phone is a bit snappier as compared to the stock (T-Mobile) ROM.
Ion Rom for Magic is perfect. It's the most close to a stock rom, but with better energy behavior.
I've just pull my Magic out of the cupboard to use it during "dangerous" activities (trekking, etc), and I'll give him Ion again.

The most stable rom I've ever used is Froyobylaszlo. I just ext 4 and nothing else and it runs fine.
sionce i had this phone i never wanted to use the stock 1.5,, it's so annoying and very stupid and not supported by most of my apps "skype,viber,nimbuzz,whatsapp..etc" and so i changed to CM6 and it was so stable running it for daily use for about a year!! it's soo stable and powersaving is much pretty oookaay
now i'm using GingerYoshi it is reeeaally awesome and makes everything fast and easy and more stable than CM6 in games but it reboots immedietly if RAM went full it does not manage it well u'll need to use a task manager and close apps frequently..
short words,, i was really happy with my CM6 froyo but now i'm happier with GingerYoshi.. GY here i guess it's sticky up there in development

If you want something stable, you'd probably not feel like trying those mimicking the custom ROM on Galaxy S.
The stablest ROM I tried ever, with New Radio on my 32A device, is FroyoDragon0.7 with custom Froyo themes.
All the APKs you need can be found in the Android Market (Enabler).
It is really worthy of a try.
Totally agree with above post, froyodragon 0.7 is by far the best rom i've come across for this phone, second to that would be bananabread 3.1...very fast roms. no prob;lems so far, currently using froyodragon.

ICS v. Sense

I know it's like comparing apples to oranges, but how do you guys feel about the current development behind the ICS ROMs v. Sense (I've namely looked into The Classic 1.0 and DigitalKarma's Heaven "Sense4 meets Sense1" so far).
I haven't played around with Sense at all since rooting my phone back in September when I flashed CM7. Currently, I have jmztaylor's unofficial CM9 ICS ROM (5-10 stable build, I believe) on my phone and I'm liking it. However, I mainly hopped over to CM in order to get rid of the bloatware, thus increasing my battery life while at college (where I got awful service). Now that I've graduated, I'm home, working, and best off all, I have great service again.
That being said, I've been thinking about trying out a Sense based ROM again but can't decide if I should stick with ICS or not.
Thoughts? Opinions on any and all of the ROMs pertaining to ICS and Sense are appreciated.
I apologize. I only searched the General forum when seeing if this has been asked before, but I just found this on the Q&A forum.
Input is still more than welcome here, as my topic is a little more specified and I'd like to have reasoning behind the input too. But I'll continue reading that thread as well.
I personally love jmz's cm9 rom. Sense does offer 4g and Netflix and camcorder but it usually looks annoying and is pretty slow. Cm9 is smooth and fast with no annoying colors. I can't wait for a more stable version of sense 4 for the og evo.

i need help
ok my problem is that i flashed MazWoz b5 which is ics 4.0.3 now when i flash back to ginger bread nothing works right either wont get texting or google play wont load the last problem was that when i download an app to install as soon as it finishes and goes to install it reboots. i did it all i wiped everything but sd card i flashed the roms and if the dev had kernels with it i flashed them as well i then load up and still get errors i have no clue on what is happening.
i am using smelkusmod v4.1 recovery could this be the issue i have an ext 3 as well
Flashed Classic earlier to give it a shot. Sense just feels so incredibly foreign to me now so I decided to revert back to ICS at least for the weekend. After that, I may give Sense another go around.
This time with ICS, I'm giving MIUI a shot since I've been on CM (7 and then 9) since I originally rooted.
All feedback is still welcome, because eventually I'll probably end up trying more to see what feels the best for me.
both jmz's and mazda's cm9's have been stable for me...but seeing mazda's is based off of jmz's it makes sense. aokp has been stable at times with certain builds but i have to admit that i was never had the same results after reflashing at times

Partition your SD card
bump it to ext3
then to ext4 (for aosp and ics ONLY!)
wipe all except SDcard 3 times
then install
I recommend Mazdariders23 CM9 ROM: http://changelogs.tincandroid.com/CM9.html
(Btw mazwoz is now b6)
I also recommend this kernel: http://goo.im/devs/atyoung/Mason-RC/Mason-EI-0.1.5-RC5-sbc-supersonic-signed.zip (thats for cm9 only)
here is for all ICS ROMs: http://goo.im/devs/atyoung/Mason-RC/Mason-I-d15rc4-sbc-fso-supersonic-signed.zip
smelkusmod is now version 3: http://d-h.st/users/smelkus/?fld_id=1930#files
I had to unroot my phone last week to get a replacement I was on jmz cm9 before he left and came back. I didn't miss not being able to record video but now that I'm too lazy to reroot. I'm stuck on sense and I finally tried Netflix and been recording videos more. I still like ICS but I will stick to stock until my next phone.

I like pics much better than sense but! I'm liking sense 4.0 and the port by Platt is turning out amazing!

Good and stable ROMS

Hey guys, so I'm kinda new at doing custom roms and kernels and I'm super eager to learn everything. I just unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone succesfully yesterday. But of course, rooting the nexus s is a must to install custom roms.
I want to know what you guys think are GOOD and STABLE ROMS where everything seems to function.
I was looking at the nexusshacks website and they have the AOKP kang jellybean ROM but I'm hearing from a bit of people that not everything works and it freezes at the boot screen. also there's a problem that apparently you cant see your gallery and music, and also data doesnt work on it.... I just want something that works good and is stable and gives me good battery life!
Thanks for your time

The best thing about these ROM is you can try them for yourself and see if it work for you.
A lot of people don't follow the instruction and complain all the time, there are people enjoying the ROM and you will never hear from them. My respect to the developers who do great work, because of them I have the latest and best android experience ever, for the last two years I have no need to upgrade my phone.
Try them all.

Is there a good kernel? I'm not too educated on kernels lol
Hi
Rooting isn't a must for installing custom roms you can always use fastboot tool to install custom recovery
I've flashed one million custom roms to my i9023. And what I learned from it is flashing most of them was just a waste of time. However, if I hadn't done this, I wouldn't have known what to choose now. Gingbread roms are really fast and responsive. However they are not so smooth when it comes to scrolling. Also gingerbread roms lack a lot of nice features that come in later builds.
ICS was a misunderstanding for me. It was slow, laggy but the functionality was better than gingerbread. I was ready to sell my nexus because of that disappointment.
Finally Jelly Bean came along. And that, my friend is something different. Project butter makes the phone so smooth, scrolling is superb, animations and applications seems so smooth now. Speed of gingerbread(almost) and looks and functionality of ics
You can try every rom you can. You're gonna waste a lot of time just on flashing restoring, flashing and restoring and so on. You might even get frustrated. Or you can try this and simply start liking your phone

This is pretty stock, just the way I like it. It's freaking smooth, it hardly ever lags, perfect to bring you some smile from using your nexus most of other roms always come up with some bug or lack of some feature that works on stock rom. The rom I mentioned simply works. Trust me and install this one and you won't regret

cool thanks man... ONE question before I begin... Im assuming the kernel is already in the ROM .zip file here right? Now if the kernel is seperate do you just add into the SD card like adding a ROM to the sd card? do you have to do anything under recovery?
Kernel is included. Just install this rom from the recovery kernels are always in a zip file, you install them like you install a rom.
But this time you don't have to even think about the kernel, because it's already built into whole rom zip file

the pic & music issue is probably related to the bad Rom manager app update that put .nomedia files where they didn't belong.
I always run a new/updated Rom with its baked in kernel for a day or two to see how it does before flashing a separate kernel, unless I have major issues related to the baked in kernel. Not all devices act the same, even on the exact same setup.

If you're new to the whole flashing game with the android devices id say start with Flashing Custom Kernels. So you can get the the feel for what just the kernel can do for your phone. There's a couple well named ones that you might hear a lot about like the Matr1x Kernel, GLaDOS Kernel, Thalamus Kernel. For the most part a few of them have the same stuff but certain Kernels run faster or smoother. Once you get the hang of that then move to Custom ROMS. As everyone says you kinda have to try out Everything for yourself as 2 people can have 2 completely different experiences with flashing. Essentially though, the Names that you see a lot are typically the most liked ROMS and Kernels for there Features and Stability.
Happy Flashing
I think its the other way around due to fact that I would not recommend flashing a kernel over stock ota without backing up first. Reason for this is that if you want to get an ota update with the stock ROM it won't work if the kernel is different from the one Google provides (experienced this problem while trying to flash a completely stock Google provided rom). So I would first flash a ROM and test it, trying as many features and see if that's what I like and then start experimenting with different kernels as most might not be stable for your particular phone. I am a vanilla Android type of person nonetheless.
Note: the rom a developer chooses are most likely the ones that he thinks are the most stable so in theory you should not run into any problem with it.

Hey guys i really appreciate the advise. Just to let you all know, I flashed AOKP kang ROM and it's so smooth and quick. I also flashed a matrix kernel v.22 (believe its the cfc version). However, I was really hoping to overclock my cpu a little to get some better gaming performance. I'm looking everything under the ROM settings and the actual phone settings to see if there's anything to change for the cpu.
How do I overclock the cpu??? I know there's customizable roms where you can overclock the cpu for games then tone it down for normal usage and what not; that's really what I wanted.

I use a an APP called "NSTools" or "SetCPU"
I'm order to oc, you must be using a kernel that supports oc. The matr1x 22.5 (his jb version) doesn't support oc, but he should have a new version it soon. I can't say if it can be overclocked though.

good question.. personally I use codename (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839249) with air kernel(that supports oc, even if I set max cpu 1000 as default).. really fast, no lags with good battery life and everything seems work great. I've tried a lot of roms and a lot of them are really good (I like to change a lot) and in my opinion you have to try a lot of them and chose your favourite
p.s.every time you flash a rom or kernel is better to make a backup(and then a wipe), so if something went wrong you can restore the phone as it was before.. sometimes kernel is not included in rom, you have to check it in phone informations.
I hope this was what you needed

hey, I just flashed codename and air kernel (no modifications) and i just downloaded NStools. It came as an apk. file, I was just wondering what to do with this? do i just throw it into my SD card?

[Q] What would you do? (slow phone, battery drops... suggestions!)

Hello, I hope you guys can help me as i don't know what to do with my phone, here is how it is right now:
Green lens defy, one year old, I replaced the earpiece manually, running right now on Cyanogen 7.1-11, but getting some errors:
Phone stability issues: sometimes phone/launcher freeze/go very slow, sometimes games run fine, other times phone freezes and need a reboots. when i'm updating apps from google play phone can't be used while that is going on (I get a message that 'system' is frozen and if i want to force close it)
there are heavy battery drops to, 20%. I already did the battery drop topic thing, so i think it is a problem of my battery...
How could I solve this? reflash another rom? I don't want to be changing rom every week/month... I was waiting for CM10 or 9 stable but I think i can't wait anymore, the phone can't even last 5 hours on 3G...
About the battery, I heard people that bought a new battery get the 1% bug, this happens with every battery? if not, anyone has a link (send by PM if you want) to a battery that doesn't have this problem?

So first of all you can update to one of Maniac103s CM7.2 nightlys, theyre very stable, running smooth and contain some nice features.
If you want to try something new out CM10 could be something for you, if you dont install too many apps its running pretty fine, but for me after 1 week it always got slow and laggy as hell. CM9 hasnt got as many updates as CM10 but for me its running pretty good, almost like an RC version, so you could give epsylons latest nightly a try . Another thing could be a rom like CM7.2 Whiterabbit, thats a modded CM7 version with many speed tweaks which runs pretty good
For your stability issures, try a Cache and Dalvik Cache Whipe, if this doesnt work try a fullwhipe and flash your rom again, but your Apps will be lost. It should get better when you do this, but if you want to make sure that it will run like the first day do an installation from scratch(fullwhipe flash stock sbf, flash rom again) and you should be fine.
You can try whiping your batterystats, this might help but you could also try and buy a new Moto Defy "stock" battery, simply buy one from amazon they arent that expensive. I havent heard about people having an 1% bug with a Motorola Battery (its the same battery youve already got )
Please ask all questions in the Q&A section. Thread moved there.

With not installing too many apps what do you mean? if you install lots of apps it gets laggy, or that some apps may not be optimized for JB?
I did the cache an dalvik cache wipe and I think the phone is running much better, thanks, didn't think about that If i get more problems I will have to do a clean flash.
I didn't think about amazon for the battery, only looked at ebay, but yes there are batteries sold by motorola on amazon! awesome.
So what would you suggest? updating to 7.2, CM9 or a nightly of CM10?
Sorry for posting on the wrong section.
All the stuff TeeJay3800 is good.
Well in my opinoin...
CM10 - Looks great, batter y life is really good, very stable, somewhat slower than CM7.2 rom, lots of extra features.
CM7.2 - Doesn't look as good in my opinoin, slightly less features, battery life is amazing, Very very stable and reliable, very fast.
So basically for CM10 at the moment, you are getting extra features that ICS and JB have (you can research for yourself if you dont already know ) but right now the rom isnt as polished as CM7.2. so basically decide which option will suit you.. maybe you are bored of the gingerbread interface and just want a change? You can also show off to your friends that you have the latest operating system etc etc etc
at the end of the day, it doesn't take long to change if you don't like it

And what about MIUI gingerbread? Is it as good with battery as CM 7.2 but with the new UI?
Thanks a lot

Right, i am a bit lost on the sbf part. I remember flashing a SBF and then installing CM7 .zip on it, but right now the computer where i have this SBF saved is not working, so i don't know what rom is it. (on phone kernel version it says 2.6.32.9 and more letters)
EDIT: now I know what rom it is, Spanish official vodafone rom 3.4.2-179-4.4.
I should jump to an stock SBF, then flash another SBF? which ones?
Installing miui/WIUI is similar to CM7? just flash an update.zip ? it is recommended to install on 2.2 CEE ROM (3.4.2 too?)
thanks a lot.
