Can Someone Check With 4.1.2 JB... - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

If we can use a large TB sized or larger HD? I just plugged mine in & didn't get an error message as I usually did on anything below 4.1.2 JB my drive is 4 way partitioned with an active bookable partition. So I am not getting a good reading. Thanks!
USA, N8013 with OTA update

Hi i think its possible, does it have its own powersupply? Oh and if its ntfs format you might need root and install paragon ntfs app from play store to make it work. However, i remember trying to plug in my 40gb hdd and was partioned to 2 and it only recognized the first partition, so im not sure why. But i tried my 250gb hdd and it was recognized right away. Hope this helps

if not then, i am sure my device is defective of something....
How were they formatted? At those sizes, I'm going to guess they were formatted to NTFS which Android cannot read natively. There is, however, a thread in the Development section which includes a driver to enable NTFS support on the A500.

I start to think ut is my hardware or rom problem?
Any solution ?
When i first connected a hdd i also thought it didn't work. When i looked at mnt/usb_storage.........no filelist. But when i got a cup of coffee and looked again the filelist was there. Apparantly the Acer needs a time to scan the HDD which can be long when it is large. So l'lle patience.

Are you sure you have power (external) going into your HD? I tried a WD portable and it wouldn't be read by the A500 until I connected it to an external power supply. Then I could read it without any problems.

Guy's....just download (HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool) to format your HD's to fat32. I did my 250 & 500GB HD and it work just find. Windows just don't format right...that's why I don't use windows to format my HD's. If you have Linux use Gparted.
I have

I also have a 250gb that I can't get to read but then it needs dual-powered cable to be read on my laptop so I expected that. But my 320gb Buffalo, my 32gb Patriot and my 80gb Maxtor read just fine. All are NTFS. I have a 160gb from work that I will try tomorrow.
Connect it to windows and pull up the disk administrator (where you create partitions) and see if the disk is basic or dynamic? Just a hunch... have you tried different cables? And finally I want to be sure you are plugging it into the full sized USB pert and not the micro USB.

i am using mac, not windows, my hdd connect fine to mac, how to do this on mac?
not only different cables, yesterday i went to an it mall, there i tried almost 5 different 500gb hdd 2.5 inch, all failed, all have fat32 format, cause i checked them on my mac beforehand
yeah, of course i connect it to the usb 2.0 port..
this is what i dont understand, everyones hdd work fine in the iconia, why my iconia just cant read?
mine don't work either. I have a 1 TB western digital hard drive.
i use ntfs mount, first time install that ntfs mount apk...cant read my hdd but aftter reboot my iconia all partition on hdd can read and walk normal like on my laptop
I'm in Jakarta, so I don't think it can be a rom thing. Are you using NTFS mount, or just trying to plug the HDD into your tab and use the built-in software? Try this and it should fix the problem.

[Q] Transfering data between phone and A500 using USB?

I was interested in transfering files from my hone (Nexus s 4g) and my A500. I wanted to know if this is possible by simply plugging the phone into the tablet's usb port. If not, is there any drivers or apps i can download to let me do so? Basically, i want it to be like when i plug it into my computer. I want it to show up like a hard drive.
Also, i have a external harddrive and had a question on how to format it. When i right click hit format is comes up as NTFS being the default file system. The onl y other option is exFat. Is that the same as Fat32? I've heard Fat32 is the only file system that works.
Thanks for the help!

[Q] Trouble mounting usb hdd and usb question :-)

Have a old 60gb external USB 2.0 hdd - formatted fresh using FAT - drive tests fine.
Cannot seem to get my a500 to use it - tried the "drive mount" tool from the market and I see my hdd under unmounted devices, when I try to mount it I get "driver for sda1 failed to load".
Running 3.1 early release, rooted.
One more question I had about USB - can I plug a powered or unpowered USB hub into the a500 and use both external keyboard / mouse at the same time?
(Edit: issue resolved. For some reason a full format using FAT produced a bad volume, whereas a full ntfs format worked like a charm. Next step: powered USB hub and I am gonna be so happy)
old drive
Is it in a old drive bay.some of the older external drive bays take alot of power. If it has a external power adaptor you might have to use it pluged iin. And trybto have your tablet pouted into power outlet as well.it helps with my 3.5 500 gig drive bay
Check
Yup - it's a older model and requires external power, which was plugged in - as well as the tab.
Formatted drive using Windows 7 - FAT was not a option, only exFAT or ntfs. Did full format.
Mount utility sees the drive - just cannot mount it. Might try a reformat from a older system and see if that helps.

Try formatting to ntfs, then use this to mount it. Works with my 750 gb external drive and it shows up under memory in settings. Also, yes both types of USB hubs, should work.
OK so I'm new and I can't post a link to Mega upload, but I can PM you the link if you like.

I am doing this on a rooted a500 running the early release of 3.1 - just used my Windows 7 desktop to format the drive as NTFS - using a free software package from market called "drive mount" which can mount lots of different devices. If you are not rooted - pretty sure the USB drive has to be FAT file system for it to work.
Sure, you can use Linux for the format - plenty of freeware tools for Linux that will do this for you in a nice GUI setting
I was planning pn using the gparted partition manager on puppy linux..........is it good enough?......and will my hdd suffer memory loss when I format it to fat32??

Generally reformatting a drive will delete all data on said drive. Would recommend backing it all up, formatting it - and restoring it.
Do you have root on your Iconica? If so - you should be able to mount the drive pretty much regardless of what format it is in - what type of file system is it?
I haven't rooted my device......and I meant free memory loss.....would the hdd size decrease??

Yes, it should work. Do you know what the flash drive is formatted as? If you plug it into your computer (I'm assuming Windows) and go to File Explorer>Your Flash Drive>Right Click the image>Properties>File System
Tell us what it says. Sorry if my directions aren't the best, but you can just instructions on how to find file system type.
I tried two usb flash, the first didn't work and the second worked.
My 32gig patriot works just fine.

I successfully connected my 500 GB external hard drive to my phone with a $2 OTG cable.
Had to use Paragon NTFS to be able to access the drive, though (it's formatted to NTFS)
And it works with a 64gb ntfs formatted drive too.

For NTFS drives, the better and more convenient solution is to use Stickmount.
Just put the ntfs-3g module (see playstore page of Stickmount for link) in /sdcard.
I use a 1TB NTFS external harddisk without own power supply (!) with the G2, and it works without a hitch! This phone is able to do what my tablets can't! Thumbs Up!
My Sandisk Extreme 32GB USB 3.0 also works perfectly on my G2 (D802)
to be more clear.
using twrp 2.6.3.3 and AOKP 4.3
will read and write on 32 or 64 GB flash drive formatted either fat32 or NTFS. :good:
using TWRP 2.6.3.3 and STOCK AT&T 4.2.2 rooted
will read and write 32 GB fat32 flash drive :good:
will not mount 32 or 64 GB NTFS flash drive
I havent had any issues with OTG using thumb drives or micro sd...of any size...either works just fine.

NTFS is not supported. Please reformat it to FAT32.
NTFS can be supported through a mod though.
Android itself has never supported NTFS drives. Only Asus Tranformer devices support NTFS via third party drivers (Because of the USB port.)
Fat32 and exFAT are supported though.
FAT32 only supports files up to a maximum of 4GB. Useless for Semi-HD and Full-HD films.
exFAT supports files up to 16EB (ExaByte) (max file size in exFAT is redundant, since there aren't any drives commercially available over 5TB. Even the collective size of the entire internet is only 5EB.)
My advice, use exFAT.
I think ROM Toolbox comes with driver called Paragon NTFS, that should work with OTG USB NTFS storage, but you need to be rooted. I think this is the only alternate option to reformatting all your external storage to exfat, which may not be practical. Or do it Apple way, transfer data between 2 devices sitting next to each other, half across the globe and back using itunes, I mean cloud, like dropbox.
Thanks guys sooooo much
. ☺
But how can i make my phone read ntfs?
