HTC One vs Note II - Galaxy Note II General

So, I have the Note II (Awesome device) But now the HTC One is out and on paper in specs its sort of common with the Note II but not as much.Lets go over with the specs shall we?
The note II features a 1.6 ghz Quadcore Exynos 4 CPU - The One has a Snap dragon 600 Quad core 1.7 Ghz processor. Now the 600 is quite new of a processor meaning not many phones have it (Only the Optimus G+ and now the One,as far as im aware) So in the processor im gonna leave it as is just because we still have yet to see the 600 in action.
Both of these devices feature 2 GB RAM - Draw.
The screen is quite different however, On the note II you got a 5.5 Inch Super amoled panel with a resolution of 1280x720 giving a dpi of 267- HTC One has a 4.7 Inch display with a Super LCD 3 panel with a resolution of 1920x1080 which results in a whopping resolution of 469ppi. Many say the 1080p screen is overkill but unless you experience it for real you will see a difference..i have to give this to the One.
In battery not much tests have been made for the One here but my bet the Note II will have a better battery. The Note II has a 3100 MAH battery which is just awesome. The One has a battery of 2300 MAH . Keep in mind that the Note II's battery is removable but the One is not!.This one goes for the Note II
The One comes in 2 models of 32 and 64 gigs of storage with no expandable SD Card. The note II comes in 16 gigs of internal storage and can support an SD card of up to 64 GB. Note II wins this one.
The Camera on the One is the "Ultra pixel" one which no one really is sure what it is or how its better so..im going to leave the camera because no one really can judge.
Software wise , Both the Note II and the One come with Android JELLY BEAN 4.1.2. (Both will be upgradable to 4.2.2)
One thing i wanted to note(no pun intended) is that the Note II has an S-Pen! Im not going to go in the features of it because they are alot..But let me tell you this,Its just awesome..you can take notes with it, Very productive. ( ONE ALSO has Beats audio and 2 front speakers , note 2 doesnt have that)
Ending this..Both of these phones are great..But for me I can upgrade and ditch the Note II to get the One (Got the money) But im going to stay with the Note II because its the phone i want , i dont want to go back to 4.7 inch screen. So thats just my take on it..Its your choice and your money Both of them are great..But ive had HTC in the past..i wont have one again.

I'm curious about the camera in One, they promised a good low light performance. The sceen also may be interesting, but until i see it in real life, I cannot talk about it. The battery, I guess, will be at most 3/4 of ours (a wild guess).
My final verdict: not worth upgrade (if this is really an upgrade?), I'm waiting for S4 and even 5S (these are the phones to set new trends )

Even though htc one has a better specification, better screen, and faster processor. The battery itself will keep me and some people sticking to note 2 for the time being. If you want gaming, the HTC sure will provide better gaming performance (12,000 in quadrant! ) but from my experience of owning HTC one x and one x+, both have terrible battery, especially compared to note 2.
Htc also have quite lame software in my opinion. But HTC Sense looks better, much better than TouchWiz. Note 2 in my book is still the best smartphone to date with s-pen, split screen and other various productivity tools. Great phone for working. The battery will last a full day with heavy usage.

if u prefer raw performance and good camera go for htc one but if u prefer more usablity with spen and storage stay with note 2 and wait for note 3 launch at end q3.
htc one is the king of android phone with optimus g pro but both phone doesnt support digitizer so it lack the usability and precision of note 2.
about battery life, nowadays u can buy an external charger or use in-car charger if u are moving around so battery is not an issue actually unless u go to a very rural place for a week with no charger around but any phone also cant last that long.
anyway its up to user individual.
update - S4 wil also be launching in march so about the king of android is still a puzzle.

htc one has the better built quality it seems with metal construction and injection moulding which is somehow, more solid than plastic (or polycarbonate) on N2

OK there is NO Doubt that the phone is a new top tier phone! But I don't know... HTC has great build quality, but their software is meh. Their updates are slow, because they have to test that REALLY heavy skin over Android, so they are never really on time with updates, and if they are, it's only for the first few months. I don't know, I think HTC has a GREAT design team, and engineers, but I don't really like their software development team because their mentality is build a great device and sell as many as possible and then push out the next one. Samsung, for the moment, is doing a great job. The ORIGINAL Note got updates, and so did the S2. That's just my opinion based on my experience. It could vary. haha. Oh, but battery life is FOR SURE going to be worse on the HTC unless they did something revolutionary with their software and hardware. mAh is mAh! There's no way around that.

I own both devices(Note 2 and One X). In comparison for both devices(stock), I like the the Note 2 the most - no lags, while on the One X - lag is everywhere. The SenseUI is terrible when it comes to response. The only noticeable difference between both devices is when the user wants to access the phone's memory, Kies really suck while on the OneX it's just toggle-transfer-safely remove the device.

Let's be total honest here, One is WAY better than Note 2, in terms of performance, build quality and design. But I won't switch to it, why? Because I don't want to spend extra money for it as my Note 2 is just 4 months old and I still like OLED than LCD.

Agreed on the whole "I had an HTC before and will never have one again". Seriously, their phones always had an issue whether it was software related or hardware. But that's just my experience. I'm never going back. Regardless of how fast it is or how much better. I'm satisfied with the note performance and battery life and especially that it has official cm10.1 support. Awaiting key lime pie and future updates on this beast!

this topic is about the all new "One" not the "One X"

One is newer device, of course it will be faster than Note 2.
Would I go for One? No!
Why?
No MMC slot, embedded battery, less battery capacity.

I was the ultimate HTC fanboi up until the original Note came along. It was then I realised Samsung were King when it came to innovation and superior software. I bought the S3 then the Note 2, the Galaxy Camera and the Note 10.1 tablet. I have become a Samsung fanboi without doubt!
However...
I am suddenly taking an interest in both the Sony Xperia Z and now the HTC One. Why? Well purely on a design basis. The Galaxy range is becoming a bit boring in the looks department. I understand that plastic is good for making my devices lightweight and durable but they don't ooze premium like the HTC ONE and the Sony Z (and dare I say the iphone 5 - yes that's quite an admission for an anti apple guy!)
My conclusion is for now I am waiting on what the Samsung Galaxy S4 brings to the table and more importantly the Galaxy Note 3, before I consider jumping ship again. For the time being I am a Samsung fan and I love the Note II but it's about time we had higher resolution AMOLED screens, twin speakers and aluminium chassis for what are ultra premium products.

Sv: HTC One vs Note II
The HTC One has a LOT more pixels to move around wich means that the extra 100mhz CPU power can't even begin to make up with it = laggy? (unless it has an awesome GPU). Also the screen 4'7 is too small for my taste.
This also means more power required from a much smaller battery in the One. Two things I really love about the Note II is the awsome battery life and the ability to simply switch battery if needed.
The One's design looks great however putting the rear speaker in the front looks retatded I think, and to put a "Beats Audio" logo on the back of that beautiful phone is also retarded
In autumn 2013 the Note III will be out and I can honestly say, I will keep my Note II till then!

All positive and negative aspects aside has anyone noticed how ugly HTC phones have become? Especially the back.

Isn't it easier to put it this way without much of explanation.
Cpu = Htc one , it's 40% faster then the one in note and 40% more powerfull, battery consumption is less for around 50%
Display = Htc one , much better sharper crisper , brighter , viewing angles, much more usable on daylight and colors are more accurate then on amoled.
Battery = this one is unknown , but considering it has less power hungry chip smaller screen SLCD3 more power hungry display then amoled and full HD we can expect around 8 hours screen on time. Possibly more still unknown.
Design and build quality = Htc one no doubt about it.
Features = kinda hard call , HTc one comes with plenty of new things while note holds of it's own.
Camera = reported to be currently the best one on the market especially in the dark ( 300% more light then on other devices )
About one X since you mentioned it , you really didn't know how to use HoX no offense still don't ( tho you're right when you compare stock vs stock ) , hox is on a different level now, runs games full effects no laggs ( that can't even s3 & note 2 do ) Battery life has literally doubled , check in my signature screen shoots you'll see almost 7hours screen on time with heavy usage and high brightness at some point.
Anyone final words: Htc one is great but i think us who have quad cores should skip it and wait to see what will sammy bring us in note 3, s4 and what will snapdragon 800 do , it's twice faster then s600. Just my 2 cents.

I did a mere comparison of the two devices, the One X & Note 2 stock devices because that would be the first noticeable differences for prospective buyers. Is it a norm nowadays where you go to an electronics shop where customers would ask clerks of how their phones behave/function while running on custom ROMs? The answer is a no. First they compare the physical aspects of the phone literally head to head and next is what's under the hood.
@TOPIC - sorry for going off-topic.

I feel like I've gotten into a trap I cannot get out of.

Well damn. After getting the Note, it seems like that desire for the SGS3, HTC One X, or whatever new swanky phone with quad cores dies down when I see the lack of a S-pen on these devices. If the Note didn't exist, and if I still owned that awesome SGS2, I would have sold it to get the next powerful device like the HTC One X.
But noooo, now the only thing I look for is the availability of a S-Pen or similar device, and a screen as big as the Note. If it doesn't come with either, I can't seem to get myself to care about it. Anyone else stuck in this strange trap?
I agree with you 100%

I don't see the specs of SGS3 anywhere.
HTC one X - With a Quad core 1.5 CPU and a Standard battery, Li-Po 1800 mAh. I assume this one's not gonna be a battery friendly device.
With the Note in Hand, I dont see any other options for an upgrade.
Besides, Life with the S-Pen + MMS is fun.
i hate my note
for setting such high standards
i think its going to save me a lot of money
my next phone will have to beat my note

HTC is no slouch man. They have been in this for quite a long time and I believe the One X should have decent battery life. It's quite the powerhouse if you put it next to the SGS2, so I'll give it credit where it's due. If the Note didn't exist, the One X would definitely be my next phone.

I love being trapped, saves me a lot of timing keeping up with all the news about newer and faster devices and having to decide which one to buy next and when. Now i just have to wait for the note2. No hurry btw, love the note a it is.
Now let's just hope no other manufacturer come out with this screen size and making my life complicated again
Sige
The Galaxy Note needs better screen drivers. The rendering of near-black pixels is awful and the S-pen is not as responsive as other devices. But I would not trade it for any other device right now.
The mobile devices are following the steps of the PCs with the MHz race, which lead to CPUs disipating 120W and needing huge and noise fans. I no longer consider the CPU / GPU / 4G radio when examining a new device.
Like in the PC world, it's OK if you're into gaming and want to load the newest games on your device, but for 90% of the people, they won't see the difference between a dual-core and quad-core. (Recently the boys from Gizmodo gave a few Ipad 2 to reviewers saying that they were Ipad 3, and they provided feedback as such).
But a quad-core CPU, multi-core GPU, has it's impact on battery, weight and running temperature. The same that happened on PCs. It stopped making sense once the CPU was dissipating 120 W.
The same for 4G / LTE / Whatever are now talking about that's 1 Gbps. What sense does make a 50 Mps connection when you're limited to 1 or 2 GB a MONTH?
At 50 Mps you can only use the connection 3 MINUTES before reaching your data cap. This is not serious people, this is just marketing buzz for people that's technically illiterate and cannot make the most simple calculations.

Only one I know of, some low end company.
I think everyone else was waiting to see how well the note did before jumping to bigger screens. It makes sense given the number of bad reviews the note gets.
I think now that they hit the 5 million mark, we're going to see a lot more larger phones. I'm not convinced there is a large market for the stylus though.
The only phone that meets my requirements is the Note. I liked the S2, but the Note is a much more versatile device. I'm a photographer, and the Note is a truly photographer-friendly device. My next phone will be a Note 2, and I'm in no hurry for that.

Tegra 3 it's not a quad-core CPU, it has 5 cores. The fifth core is active when the phone is "sleeping" or with low demanding tasks, in order to save energy. Early reports indicate that One X's battery behaviour is quite good, but none official review is out yet, so it's premature to judge it (unless, of course, you're a samsung fanboy).
I'm going to get a HTC One X in the next 2 weeks, but that doesn't diminuish my urge to get a Galaxy Note. IMO, Note can't be compared to any other phone, it's on a league of it's own. If the biiiig size isn't a problem for you or the issues with the screen, get a Note. It'll do everything One X or SGIII do, only in a BIGGER way!
I won't buy one because I can only have 1 smartphone and for me it's too big for daily use
htc one out in the wild ...hmmm..not that impressed
http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2012/03/htc-one-s-for-t-mobile-caught-on-camera/
Just the other day when i was driving in the mud in the forest with my atv, A stick pierced my plastic shield that covers the braking cylinder. I took up my note, Took a picture and sketched on the image how the plastic was attached and what size it was. Sent the picture in like 2 minutes. Got an email back from the workshop that they have cut out that part in metal and was ready to be picked up.
So on my way home from the ATV run i picked up the piece just a couple of hours later and it fits perfectly.
That is the first time i really feelt how awesome the S pen function really was.
Now i might not have needed that part so fast, but it sure was sweet having it done so fast while driving in the woods and with such ease!
Before i even bought this phone i was like wtf do i need a stylus for, Its so Xperia X1 and that phone sucked. But i find it useful atleast a couple days a week!
Feel the same - although for me it's the screen size that keeps me from other devices. Never smaller than 5,3".

What!?!
I beg your pardon?
For all I know (I. e. Experience) HTC is well known for their tiny batteries on every device currently! And if specs don't change, even new devices too!
For me battery size and performance is a must and after the Note (screen size and SPen aside) I don't see any device capable of getting me through an entire day on a single charge with heavy use.

Galaxy note or HTC One X

Hi Everyone
I just need some advice, is the Galaxy Note a good phone? I have the HTC One x and there is this screen issue problem a few people are experiencing which I am also starting to experience.
Just wanted to know how good the Note is.
Thanks

Note too has screen issues.
Gamma test problems, blocky blacks, color banding.
And we all are hoping ICS would fix it.
Having said that I would still prefer Note.

I will answer as a Note user its simply great! Love using it and have no issues at all leave the ICS. Rom beside it gas a powerfull CPU even more than it takes for us to use everyday , love the music in it and the browsing iwould say replace any tablet or laptop, no flash issues no problem with big pages you can kill any thing and wait to it in ICS currently its AOPK/AOSP ported but the official will rock, as far as using will obe handed is an issue but sooner you will get to it without a problem my opinion is that its the best out there now worthy as no other.
The one x , haven't seen any in my country yet but saw the specs it us apowerful phone but from my point of view it doesn't have the same magic like the note looks lije a copy of it almost....
For me check the signiture ;p

I don't have any screen issues with my Note. It looks wonderful. Of course, you will probably get biased information here since it is the NOTE forum.
I've heard the One X is good, but it's also HTC which I'm skeptical about.
Hey mate, just thought I'd throw my opinion up before you get the whole "this is the Note forums, of course we're gonna say it rocks" speech
Personally, I was offered a trade by a friend who recently received the One X as an upgrade, so I used the phone for a couple of hours to see what I thought, and I must say it is FANTASTIC but for me personally, I think that the Note is EPIC
The sheer size of the Galaxy Note is what I love the most, and whilst the One X has a large 4.7" screen, the Note with it's 5.3" screen is just incredible, and whilst the Super LCD 2 screen on the One X is lovely, it doesn't compare to the HD Super AMOLED PLUS screen of the Note, in my personal opinion.
I would say that the One X is a faster phone, because the quad core 1.5GHZ vs. dual core 1.4GHZ of the Note speaks for itself, but I personally don't see any need for a quad core Android device in 2012.
Android 4.0.3, with Sense 4 on the stock ROM of the One X absolutely DESTROYS Android 2.3.6, with TouchWiz on the stock ROM of the Note... but (and this is a large but ) the Note has a fantastic development community and we have some simply superb AOSP/AOKP Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs already available and we haven't had any official releases of Android 4.0 yet which means they're just going to continue to get better! Also in my opinion, the pure Android experience beats any overlay put out by HTC/Samsung/Motorola etc. and most HTC devs cook ROMs based on Sense.
Another thing I want to point out quickly, is that whilst Samsung have a TON of different phones/tablets out, they always show their flagship devices plenty of love, and allow them to remain at the "top" whilst HTC will have another flagship device out in a couple of months. That's what I hated most about my Desire HD, I knew that a month or two after I received it, it was no longer "the best thing" anymore.

Absolutely. TouchWiz is just the launcher. You can find launchers on the Play Store. (Apex, Nova, Launcher 7, Launcher Pro, ADW)
i dont have HTC One X
so ireally can not tell !
what i can say about the note is :
Pros :
clear large screen , samsung touch wiz UI , S-pin can be very useful to some poeple ,
very great battery life , reasonable price .
Cons :
large Size makes it harder to handle then other phones ( but the htc one x is 4.7 inch so not much of a different ! )
it's not quad core as one X but .. its very decent in performance and speed
What is the camera like, sorry about all the questions.

I got both, and as i love my Note and it always the Note that follow me and stays loyal...
I like the Hox alot, more a toy for me but for others it for sure should work like a really nice phone.
But like other folks have say if you like the big screen go for the Note as it is fantastic, and when you have use it for a while you will have hard go to back to normal size..
The Hox has also a fantastic screen tho, but still not as big..
For me the Note win because : screen size, pen and Battery.

I've owned both so this is my honest opinion.
One X is a superb phone but it has a few glaring issues I couldn't past. I had two handsets. The first had a loose screen. The second had a yellow tint at the bottom and light greys would occasionally flicker. Build quality definitely needs improvement so don't be shocked if you need to switch handsets a few times.
The camera on the One X is an absolute joy to use.
Before the problems I fell in love with it. The screen is a beauty and it fits well in the hand.
If it wasn't for the fact I had to send two back, it would have been a keeper.
The Note on the other hand, arrived perfect and is perfect. Build quality is superb and the screen is equally stunning but for different reasons. High contrast and its simply amazing for watching video. The size of the device is great too, I was expecting it to be too big but its just ridiculously functional. The screen space to fit icons is untouchable and the S Pen is handy for jotting down notes without fuss.
Battery life on the Note is also far better than the One X, good 4 to 5 hrs on screen time. One X will give you around 3 to 3 and a half tops.
My only complaint of the Note is not having Ice cream sandwich yet, but its not far off.
What you need to work out is how you use your phone. If you travel a fair bit and want something to use on a bus or train then the Note is what you want. Choice of switching out battery as well as the battery being better to begin with seals the deal. If you just listen to music though, the One X is superb. It's only when the screen is on does it suck the life away.
If you also intend to play graphically intensive games, then obviously the One X is the one to get. Just have to make sure your near a charger because it kills the battery in no time.
Overall I prefer the Note because of how I use it. I do a fair bit of reading and the screen is better suited for that purpose.
I have banding. It's not software related but a problem with the screen. But I can only really tell when I have the brightness set at the lowest level.
My home button lost the spring in its step, but others say theirs is just like brand new.
Alot of lag, but hopefully ICS will fix this.
Stupid question..
I've had my Note since November and still love it to bits.
I reckon it craps on the HTC One. (yes I've played with a One)
There’s No Such Thing As A Stupid Question …… Only Stupid Answers!
I had to get both to solve this one [sigh], 'cos they're the best two phones available without doubt! They're really quite different personalities & some days one suits more so it really comes down to what you want. I think the HTC is a new gen superphone with great specs while the Note is more like a BIG SGS2 but the size is great screen wise! 4.7 now seems a bit small & 5.3 a tiny bit big. If someone does a 5" screen like the HTC, WOW!
MamaSaidWhat? said:
Also in my opinion, the pure Android experience beats any overlay put out by HTC/Samsung/Motorola etc. and most HTC devs cook ROMs based on Sense.

actually, note has super amoled hd, not super amoled plus. plus implies rgb matrix, but we have pentile matrix. the main reason why the screen of the note was particularly awesome at the time was because there was nothing else as large with the same resolution (amoled or lcd). but now the htc screen can be a comparison. not only is the htc screen an ips panel (accurate colour representation), it is also full rgb matrix, not pentile. so side by side, our notes are over saturated and not as sharp as the htc screen. amoled does have the advantage in terms of being able to display true blacks, but thats still offset by colour banding issues.
one advantage we have is larger battery capacity, but if you see some of my other posts on the issue, our battery is still worse compared to the one x in web browsing until we get ICS and can invert colours. in other tasks such as phone call and standby, our notes win... but thats only because the screen is off.
another advantage we have is that we have a microSD slot which lets us expand our storage by up to 64gb. but this will depend on the user.
however, the thing i would suggest to the OP right now is dont buy a note if he already owns a one x. its a downgrade in most areas, and a sidegrade at best. plus, today is 1st of may. in 2 more days, samsung announce their next galaxy. if you run antutu on your phone, you can see that the s3 is on the score chart and that its running a 720p display, exynos quad core with overclocked mali gpu and 1gb ram. it scores 12150 in antutu. buying a note now when the official announcement for samsung's new beast arrives in 2 days is just silly. even if the s3 isnt as great as its being hyped to be, at the very least a few stores will drop their prices on the note.
Souai
Aww thank you so much for your advice really helped I think I will stick with the One X. Its only because the flicker screen issue has been a really big put off and I do not want to go through the whole being on my 3rd one and still have flicker issues. Thanks alot.

Galaxy S3 Positive Thread

Sick of reading the prophets of doom and naysayers saying "fail, fail" you've made your point so i guess you wont be buying one then therefore you most likely won't be sticking around these forums then eh!!
This thread is for positive comments only, i for one am delighted with this release it is pretty much what i expected to be honest with a few added surprises, the early review from the Tech Radar website is very positive indeed and i am looking forward to getting this superb phone although it will be a wrench to sell my SGSII but ill have to do so to part fund buying the Galaxy S3,
I am looking forward to the USA announcement and hope they don't change it too much from the international version.
Positive comment:
The Galaxy S III will be nice for someone who is ok with getting uninspired upgrades from last years model and don't care about the negatives such as:
- battery (not 2500mAh like the Note?)
- camera (still the same 8mp camera as the 12 month old SII?)
- screen (same screen as the 6 month old Galaxy Nexus?)
- UI (touchwiz + hardware keys)
- Design (yuck)

what part of my OP did you not understand take your poxy negativity off this thread and go elsewhere ok
well u must admit the design of a phone really influences ones purchase of said phone. the sgs 3 design really looks bad which is (as i see it) the main reason why a lot of people are so disappointed.
however i think i will still be upgrading to the sgs 3 from my sgs 2. the new hardware + better batter is enough to justify my purchase of the sgs 3. though im pretty sure it wont last me as long as the sgs 2 did which i bought at launch.
They MIGHT change the design for the US, and include an S4 processor for even more battery life!
Definitely an upgrade from the nexus: bigger battery, removable storage and a physical home button (always hit the capacitive home button when pressing space bar).
Hopefully they'll pop in a beastly S4 snapdragon and this comes to Verizon in early June!
I honestly don't believe many people will have a positive thing to say. It's not a very revolutionary phone as the S2 was. The US version will be a S4 snapdragon most likely, I just wish there was a Exynos 5 dual model. Then I may actually get it.

Ive no problem with the design and personally speaking it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me but each to their own, the 2,100 mAh battery is a big improvement on the current SGSII and that can only be very good news.
Early reviews on various websites are very good indeed, to be honest some people will never be happy and will always find time to complain that is just what some people are like i suppose that is no problem just not on this thread please.

Jesus, how can anyone say 2100 is a fail when it's one of the best on the market except for the 5.3" note ?
I'm also pissed off about these trolls I mean it isn't anything else it's just blatant off topic trolling, I think I will pm some moderators
Personnally I ike the design and as I said in another thread, from the few videos I've seen it just feels soo responsive and smooth, can't wait for june to get my hands on mine

It's ok for you to troll the 'negative' threads with your 'positive' comments,

You guys should know by now that whenever a new phone is released. Xda is the place to read all negative aspects of a new device and see pages full of "fail" this and that. Just come back when development starts happening because that's when the trolls are usually gone. For now, I'm going to other forums for discussions.
Btw, if a battery with 2100 mah is horrible, then you loose all credibility. This is the Galaxy S III not the Galaxy Note II.

these are the positives things one can say about the sgs3 compared to the sgs2 for now.
1 - 720p screen with slightly less saturated colours than previous super amoled screens.
2 - 60% faster gpu
3 - 2100 mha battery.
4 - various software improvements especially to the camera though some not all are a bit gimmicky.
5 - hardware buttons. (i like hardware buttons)
6 - quad core processor.
7 - bluetooth 4.0
8 - up to 64 gigs of internal memory
maybe someone can say more?
the only positive thing about the S3 are its new core apps, i dig them all
stock battery choice is way good vs Nexus Galaxy
Design is in fact the only negative thing I have to say about the S3. I don't mind the plastic feel, the non SAMOLED+ screen (it's HD, I know I won't tell the difference), the fact that it's quad-core or that it's the same awesome 8MP camera (again, more MP does not equal better). In fact, this phone, though only an incremental upgrade over SII, is pretty much everything I was looking for when I heard about the Galaxy Nexus; I was disappointed by the GNex's 5MP camera (needed one to replace my old 8MP point-and-shoot) and non-expandable memory, so I opted for AT&T's cheaper OG SII. The SIII fulfills everything I was initially looking for and adds more. I even like the bigger HD screen. What I don't like is the bigger housing. I think software buttons would have made this my really-want phone, simply because my SII is already a little cumbersome in my pocket with its case (I dare not take off that case, I'm too clumsy). Case is an essential for me regardless of which phone I buy, so as much as I want this phone, it's just too big for practicality for me.
....even then, if I had a contract upgrade (which I don't :/) and AT&T offers it later, so long as they don't royally screw the specs I would seriously consider it, because as I stated before, it's everything I was looking for when I bought my SII: large HD beautiful screen, fast processor, 1 GB ram, expandable memory, awesome camera (annoying shutter lag on SII, so I'm looking forward to SIII), and great battery life (which of course, remains to be seen).
no big things to worth the money, ill skip this gen
S2 does the trick for the next years

Indeed asides from the obvious quad core processor, etc the larger capacity battery is a massive plus, battery life is very important for me personally, it took me a good while and many many tweaks to achieve good battery life from my SGSII mostly by freezing all the Samsung bloatware in Titanium backup and ill most likely be doing the same with the Galaxy S3, 64GB of memory with the option of a 64GB Micro SD card too is superb.

Upgrading from Captivate to Note or GS3? Help please..my requirements inside...

Hello!
So I have been using my Captivate for a long time...tweaked and overclocked to its max...just a great phone (except for lame GPS). Of course time passes and you want more. 4" is not enough for me any more (and I am speaking about my phone screen!!! LOL).
So I was set on the GS3 BUT a few things have made me think about the Note.
First , I dont care about silly things like looks..come on now. Or the camera....more megapixels on a a freakin small phone sensor? Some people need to learn about real cameras before commenting.
Anyways, the thing is....the GS3 is great the way it is Internationally with the Quad and nice GPU BUT after seeing the 5.3" Note I was like WOW this is BIG.
I use my phone mainly for watching youtube, streaming MST3K , SouthPark etc.
Also for playing emulators, FPSE , MAME etc.
So the bigger display would , in my opinion, be something I can really use.
So in that regards the high resolution big Note screen is awesome as long as it at least looks as good as the one in my Captivate.
The bad thing about the Note...well, some benchmarks, specifically Nenamark2 , I have seen low scores. I mean my Captivate, I hold (I think I still do) the record of 33.5 for that phone and normally score around 30-32 which is VERY close to what I have seen for the Note so that makes me feel like its not a huge upgrade but maybe those were an older Rom or something.
On the other hand I am sure dual core and specially 1GB Ram should give the phone a very smooth feeling compared to my OCed phone.
Another bad thing about the Note is, I got the impression Dev is not huge for it not overclocking.
So on the GS3 end...well the hardware is faster and better overall but the screen is smaller and there is a change the USA ends up with a dual core as well instead of quad. So right I am like...wait for the USA release or just get the Note and enjoy it now.
Its a tough decision.
Any feedback is appreciated specially if anyone is running emulators, specially the new Mame one that plays .139 roms as I would like to know how afterburner runs on dual core.
Regards
Are talking about ATT Note or the Int. Note? Confused, you said that ur waiting for the US release, I'm assuming your talking about the ATT versions of both phones?
Yes both will be the ATT version.
decision is still yours
well i am using my note for like 4 months now, and i am very happy with it, because of its magnificient screen for browsing and my ebooks. I am a surgical resident and this galaxy note saved me from carrying my laptop to the hospital. Here i am sharing my experience abt the note. Its easy to carry my hybrids in the rounds while taking overs during rounds. capture HD videos and pics related to the clinical findings. sometimes i even take it to the OR during cases when i am not assisting or scrubbed. I have all my books for references on my note. The good thing is being loaded with my work stuff, i have plenty of space to have my entertainment part on it. So right now i would say that i have never used a device like the galaxy note.
As far as S3 is concerned. Its an upcoming device with enhanced processor and a few more sensors. So its also charming.
Now as note prices have fall down, if u want to be on the saving path get a note, if u want to be on the top notch in competition, get an S3 as it will be the king till 2013.
I got my Note about 3 months ago and I really will not use anything smaller than the Note.
Before I got this I was tossing a coin between GS2 and Note. I mean literally
The coin landed for the GS2 and I got the Note hehe
I just couldn't resist this phablet.
In comparison to other Android phones I cant say much on that as this is my first ever Android phone and everything on it is great. From watching movies to browsing and even just looking at the thing will make you
Sure it is a bit bulky but I really like it that way. Also it depends on how much you call on it. I spend about 95% doing everything else than calling people. So holding it to my ear is a rare thing. It's better for people with big hands.
I guess everything else can be found on review sites.
I have read a lot about the S3 so far and I gotta say it's not that much better than what the Note is right now. Sure it has an updated touchwiz (in the end both are running ICS so no biggie) with better hardware performance and added apps and features but overall I would not give up my Note for an S3.
But given your situation and if I was in the same situation I would struggle to choose between the two. I would most likely lean towards the Note. About a 60-40 ratio towards the Note.
lets face it QUAD CORE !! (what for) nothing uses that much power and yet its a muscle show for companies over each other. HTC did it sammy said (ME 2).
i love my note and by far the description you wrote means your device acts as a multimedia tool not for a normal usage phone, the note matches your requests fully well it has many ROM to speed it up and give you a great battery life (BTW i dunno about battery on SG3) so stick with note, cutsom version some guys say the ICS official has a bug well dunno i'am using it and its fine but you can wait i guess one week everything will cool down now and problems will be fixed.
NOTE advantages:
Screen HD 5.3"
1 GB RAM
2500 mAH
big phone with great images and brightness
8Mp cam
1.4 Dual Core enough for nowa days
that it by far if you try it you'l never regret or even change it XD unless another comes out !
BTW i hate to say so but i think it's not right to upgrade to an SG3 its about almost the same specs nothing serious for a daily use except for Camera and ICS !
happy buying the phone....
Yesterday i sold my sgs2 . It was a great device, but had some hardware problems. I am thinking too ''should i go for white note '' or ''should i wait for sgs3'' one thing for sure if i'll buy note now, i will lose some money for selling it latter after sgs3 official release.
Please give me some advices.
Things i like about note:
1. huge hd screen
2. better res and ppi than on sgs2
3. normal sim card (not micro)
4. same specs as sgs2
Things i hate about note:
1. damn stylus ! - what is it for ? 2012 and we are still using stylus ?
2. stupid look while making a call
3. i am not sure if it is possible to write a text message with one hand
4. mobile phone with big screen in my pocket - much easier to damage a screen!
Things i like about sgs3:
1. even better resolution and ppi. MUCH BRIGHTER SCREN
2. quad core (not sure if i can feel a difference on apps i am using now) but must be significant difference in battery life.
3. nfc, bt4, few more tweaks with camera & sensors
4. wireless charging
Things i hate about sgs3:
1. rounded look (egg shape)
2. not a big improvement in camera or rams
3. micro sim card
4. PRICE

You are wrong in the brightness department of s3!!
note is about 100cd/m2 brighter than the s3 and could be easily said that its one of the brightest amoled screens around.

Just get the Galaxy Note,I have been using it for over 5 months now its one great piece of device,as for SGSIII I would have considered it or the HTC ONE X for that matter only if the GNote did not exist.

Honestly dude.. i would go out and hold a phone that's 4.8in and hold the Note and see which one you'd feel comfy handling 12 hours a day x 2 years.
Boiled down, they're almost the same phone. Quad doesn't necessarily > Dual. Just better if you're a heavy heavy multi-tasker. I multi-task like i'm on crack when i'm on the Note and don't feel any bit of fatigue.
Benchmarks don't mean SH
They're like college degrees. Nice on paper, but the important thing is being able to apply that knowledge in real-life situations.
anyways. i love my note. first week: it's too big (TWSS)
now when i handle an iphone it feels like a little kid's toy in my hand. like someone else said, can't go back to anything smaller.
Although i DO wish i had this on the Note (that the SGS3 has)
-That amazing screen
-That amazing camera (i take over 50 photos a day and that would be my fav feature of all)
-Software features they included (eye tracking, etc)
Still think it's lame how they didn't increase the ram though. I'd never have to close anything if I had 2gb
Also, since there's no LTE in Hawaii.. (yet)... I'd still go with international version. Exynos is king. Snapdragon will probably be what's in the AT&T version. bleh.

I really don't understand it when people say "damn stylus ! - what is it for ? 2012 and we are still using stylus ?". This is very narrow minded.
First of all that is like saying, "pens, pencils? What the hell are they for?" The stylus is used for taking notes, it's excellent for that. It is used for drawing, have a look at some of the threads on here where people post their artwork, some pretty amazing stuff. Fingers just aren't accurate enough to do all that. So, fingers are just used for navigating through the phone and selecting things, the stylus is used for so much more than that.

Size is not a problem with the phone for me.
My reason for wanting a quad was mostly for emulators as some are not super efficient so the more power I can provide the better although that MAME one I mentioned seems to be done for duals.
Yes benchmarks are not the last word but they do give an idea of relative performance.
Well one thing I wanted to have was a Tegra 3 chipset. Not because it is the fastest but because the lame market thing with Tegra game having extra features etc. I hope the trend does not continue.
As for Exynos vs Snapdragon, I thought there was not much different between the ATT and international version but I guess I can always sell it then by the international version or something.
Not sure if there is LTE and I dont really care for it except that with my BS "Unlimited" plan if I had a LTE phone my limit before they slow me down to unusable speeds will be 5GB instead of 3.
Thanks

I really don't understand it when people say "damn stylus ! - what is it for ? 2012 and we are still using stylus ?". This is very narrow minded.
First of all that is like saying, "pens, pencils? What the hell are they for?" The stylus is used for taking notes, it's excellent for that. It is used for drawing, have a look at some of the threads on here where people post their artwork, some pretty amazing stuff. Fingers just aren't accurate enough to do all that. So, fingers are just used for navigating through the phone and selecting things, the stylus is used for so much more than that.

well i am using my note for like 4 months now, and i am very happy with it, because of its magnificient screen for browsing and my ebooks.

My concern with the S3 is , how much enhanced is going to be if the USA cripples it to dual core..then it would feel more like a small note since not even the RAM changed.

I am hoping I can have AOKP with it and hopefully some Overclocked kernel. That should make me happy.
As for calling, I dont use my phone to call, always use a headset so no problem there.

lets face it QUAD CORE !!

I agree...that is what my usage of the phone looks like and since camera is not important to me as I have real cameras when a shot matters, then I keep leaning towards the Note right now

Benchmark results aren't relative at all.. that's the problem
Its like the quote goes "you can't rate a goldfish's intelligence based on its ability to climb"
There is a significant difference on exynos / snapdragon. (Stock) I've tried both notes.
Another prime example is AT&T S2 w/ exynos and TMO S2 on snapdragon. The latter is horrible on stock.
I still hate writing on the stylus, since i cant write as fast on it as i do with a reg. Pen and professor talks too fast. I do all my mock up sketches though on it/annotations.

hahah . Labas! Nice to see some native language in here
went to some phone shops today to hold NOTE ... also compared it to nexus (as nexus is the same size as s3) and i easily made my mind. BOUGHT NOTE FROM EBAY TODAY. £359 so that's about $577 , brand new n7000 , factory unlocked - WHITE
s3 in uk going to be part of Olympics (official olimpics phone) so i presume price is gonna stay high for a long time. I'll hold note for some time now , and decide if it is worth to go for s3 latter when it is cheaper.

ah good idea! I will do the same to see how much different the size will be. I wish I could just get the international version but then again, I guess I can always sell it and get the international one.
Are you in Vilnius? I am planning to visit in late June.

No bro. I live in United Kingdom for last 7 yrs. but originally i am not far away from Vilnius.
My advice for you would be : - go for note and if you'll be very disappointed go for s3 in autumn or so. (maybe even NOTE 2 )
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR DECISION
Based on what I use it for I think the big screen will be the choice for sure. I will go by the store today.
Yeah many of my friends are moving to the UK as well so I hope to see them before they leave.

2. stupid look while making a call
3. i am not sure if it is possible to write a text message with one hand
4. mobile phone with big screen in my pocket - much easier to damage a screen!

1.- Really, hey if you dont like it you dont HAVE to use it, i love it couse its great to making some postcards out of picture of me and my gf just for fun, also its great for playing drawsomthing, but you dont have to use it.
2.- I dont think how you look should matter in this case you want something useful you are not modelling right?
3.- With ICS you can write with one hand, it has a special one hand handling feature
4.- Sure, but after 6 months no problem with my phone, and i broke 2 other small ones so i gues it depends how you take care of your stuff
Bottom Line, i Love my Note, im not planning on any change unless Note 2 is out there and yet, it has to be a great update, cause this phone has it all
I would say go for the note.
-- Although the ATT version doesn't have the same power as the international version. overclocking to 1704hmz is certainly a plus for the note, and some roms can go higher. If you are going for the Note do the international version.
As apps get more complicated (and they will) more cores will be needed. Currently thats not the case, but it will happen. I remember 20 years ago when people were saying 52mb was all you would even need in a hard drive!
Thats basically what it comes down to. For me its the bigger screen as apps don't need 4 cores at the moment, and im loving the Note. The next note will be quad core so that will be my next purchase...
I'm never going for a smaller phone than the note...

I have a HTC onex convince me to switch to a GS3

On launch day i when out and brought my self a One X and for the first few weeks i loved it but as time went on there became more and more that anoyed me about the phone for example the lack of S-OFF, terable battery life and the fact that is completly refuses to get along well with my network "three uk".
Should i switch from the ONE X to a GS3?
and if so what are the reasons behind it?
will the GS3 help to amend any of the issues i have with the ONE X?
Thanks guys
Plz don't be convinced to get a s3! U should be loving the no sd card and non removable battery

Switch to note2 not s3
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
what worrys me about switching to the note 2 is that it has a serious lack of development
i am a huge AOSP fan but i know that if they get aosp up and running on the note that all of the S-pen feautes wont work and and so that will deem that part of the phone useless :/
i have also read that becasue of a recent fall out between cyanogen mod and samsung that cyanogen wont be suporting the note 2 as a official device which will make AOSP development slow :/

i have tryed that but all google is going to tell me is how these two phones compare out of the box when they were first released. since then there has been a huge amount of development on these phones thus rendering any review or comparison usless for what i am looking for :/
Explain to me, as if I am very dumb...what's the point on that switch? Both mobile phones are pretty much the same, one is better here the other there. But it's just my opinion. As far as ROM goes, I would be running CM anyway or AOKP or PA and the sorts...so on that point they would be exactly the same.
What I'm saying here is that people worry too much for things like 30mins extra battery and the sorts. My device has one of the worst batteries ever (Galaxy Ace) and still does it's job. With that said...I'd kill for a HTC OneX and I'd buy the HTC over the S3 any day. And let's get real here...There's this thing called Nexus 4 coming soon...I'd buy that XD
the point is the ONE x has so many problems on 3uk its not even funny :/
if im conected to H and for example i go into a building with a lead roof and i loose signal then when i exit the build the phone wont reconect to the network atall it just refuses and even if it does then it will only let me get a GSM signal and im lucky if i get that. i have to force a conection by searching for the networks and then it will recconect. i am not the only one with thus issue as it is comon with 3uk ONE x users and after half a year of doing this i cant be bothered with it anymore :/
Damsung promised to give drivers for Exynos 4 so there will be huge development from devs on xda starting from next year.

You said you were a AOSP lover? Aren't those issues caused by AOSP rom? In Portugal CM7 and MMS receiving is broken for example I need to reboot phone, turn data off and back on and then send myself a MMS to force the phone to receive the one someone sent me lol
And from what I recall, from 7 years ago, when I lived in the UK the 3 network sucked bad on pretty much every phone but I guess it would be better by now.
(Just noticed, I'm defending you to keep a HTC over a Samsung phone and I have 3 devices all of them Samsung, just check my sig lololol)

+1. A friend of mine has a HOX and every time I see it I'm jealous of how beatuful and well made it looks. It also has the best sceen available on a phone right now (htc butterfly doesnt count as it is Japan exclusive) and sense looks better than TW. My GS3 is faster (both are on custom Roms, stock kernels and both are blazing fast but the GS3 is faster and smoother ), TW has more features than Sense, camera and speakers are better, micro SD and removable battery, much better battery life and the Bootloader is unlocked (maybe the most important part for me). Both phones are excelent and I wouldn't switch from one to the other ( even if I had the HOX ). If you have to leave the HOX for something else I would suggest the Note II for its great features, the Nexus 4 if you want stock Android or wait for the international version of the HTC Butterfly.
Faster Exynos 4 processor, Bigger screen, Believe it or not but the S3 feels lighter... And if your not a flash addict Touchwiz is better than Sense.
Plus Exynos 4 documentation coming soon, even tho the Tegra already had that but development here is about to get a whole lot better.
Expandable memory, removable and bigger battery, bigger screen.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
nope i have had these probems with my network from day one even with sence
I switched from HOX to SGS3 a month ago and I didn't regret even for a second. GS3 is a way better for me.
I have a friend that has an HTC One X and i can't understand the "beautiful" compliments, it is nice looking but nothing really "awesome" about it, the edges are rough, the screen is slightly smaller, (I hate LCD's, love punchy colors of Amoled displays and true blacks), Sense is fine but i (personally) like touchwiz a little better, No SD Card (LOL @ HTC, why.. seriously.. why?) and no removable battery.. (Batteries die, yep they lose their hold after a few months / year, and you can't replace it on a One X, you can't even do a quick swap for a backup battery).
All this got me to the conclusion of getting an S3 instead, now got a Note 2, an S3 and soon a Nexus 10 (tablet).
Nike: Just do it!
READY...?
Canadian Rogers Version i7747m is what I have.
I wanted the HOX bad. Loved the look. LCD whites are WHITE. Form factor and unibody are great especially if you plan to NOT use a case. Yet the S3 won 51% to 49%.
But having owned this i747m for 3 months now, stock rom, rooted, some framework mods for extra features and cosmetics....I am absolutely floored. (minus a few super minor non issues)
- 32gb +32gb = 64gb storage
- removable battery
- light and thin...so getting a case is not a bulk builder. With case it's still lighter than my old trusty HD2
- 2gb ram with up to 50 background apps in memory (Ask Zeppelinrocks Dev about this....it's a NEW record for a stock device) Wicked Multitasking as we say it.
- Fast, great standby drain, no SOD or Hot Reboots etc.
- Touchwiz....MEH...tried it for a week and ditched that ui for Go Launcher EX which has infinitely better and more custom options.
- Replaced some stock apps with IMO...superior apps (Handcent, Kaiten Mail, PowerAmp)
- my Super Amolded screen shows whites as very close to white and looks incredible playing games or watching movies.
- LED notification is fat and not too bright. It's a warm light and multi colored....and WORKS.
- camera and camcorder are great. Just took a video tonight of some backyard ground fireworks and it came out great...sound and all. Camera is very fast, burst shots...powerful flash etc. Some issues with low light conditions.
- LTE...for us here...is smoking fast data speeds even on 1 bar signal.
- usb can also output analogue and digital audio.
- physical home button. I learned that I prefer this especially to turn the screen on. It's most natural.
- development is aggressive...especially European models. I don't care much about this anymore...since for the first time since froyo, I have a near 100% working device without issues. I can't believe it. I am a stickler for details.
If I was living in Europe, I would get the i9305. I would not even think about getting a device with less than 2gb ram. I could write a book on it.
Like DeadSOL says, and Nike....and ..even Ben Stiller....Juz Doooow eet !!!
If you're an AOSP lover you should stick with a nexus 4 but, keep in mind that the on screen buttons will take up some of the screen real estate.
Oh by the way I have both the one X and the s3 and if you do make the switch you'll be dissapointed by its cheap plasticy feel but you'll be amazed by its battery life.
