The folk at Ubuntu has announced Ubuntu for Tablets.
The moment this thing is installable on our Tabs mine is getting the treatment.
I just spotted this on Google+, it looks fantastic.
I really hope this gets ported to us!!!!!!

Can´t wait for this to happen !
I´ve been using ubuntu for years on small netbooks and laptops, if they get it to work properly on our "tabs" then it would become a serious alternative to android ! :good:
This looks SWEET!!!
I'm curious when exactly we're going to get a download option to get this going.

Maybe after MWC which is the 25th of this month... Check out www.ubuntu.com is where I see that.
I would love to see this on our Tab, but considering the low-end requirements...
I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but this will probably never see the light of day on our tabs. We do have a Desktop Ubuntu ARM port, and a fully working Linux kernel for other OSes but even with everything in front of us, I doubt it will happen.
I think the only way we could get it is if someone takes the source code and probably do some crazy mods to it to get it to it to make it work for our tabs.
I am quite the optimist so here's to hoping!
They will publish a porting guide in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting, so there is a lot of hope!

It all looks good and sounds nice, but I don't see it becoming big.
I think Android will evolve together with Chrome OS into a really good OS.
For sure I want to try out ubuntu on my 10.1 tablet, but it will never get a big userbase. (just my oppinion
Looks pretty easy. I will do it today. Finally something interesting besides cm for tablets. Most ROMs are either cm clones or simply not tablet friendly, which is why I haven't worked on much here.

Not really. If the device supports CM 10.1 (which it does), then it supports Ubuntu. Canonical even posted a full guide. Problem is, who's going to do it?
Edit: Okay, I guess we do have someone to do it. So there's hope
Sorry. I've been trying, but it hasn't been syncing. I'll try on my build server when i get a chance. Hopefully by this weekend, I will have a chance. Not sure why the sources won't download locally but my server should have no issue.

article says it needs some more work.
What does XDA think?
Hmm maybe useful if they can work out the bugs. Maybe port it but I doubt there will be a source code released for it. Watching the video it is sleek up until it froze. But all in all looks nice and seems nice for a test

IM not a skilled dev but I've been toying around with my fascinate allot lately... If I can get the build environment up and running on my computer thenI plan on trying to get b2g working.. Or atleast booting.. After I get started on it I'll start my own thread about it
Throwing it out there as I have the time to pursue but not the hardware - anyone willing to part with a p3113?, I'd like to port over MIUI for the Tab2. If anyone is interested PM me.
For the love of Google, someone get this guy a P3113. Or donate so he can get one! I'll throw a few bones your way Tuesday/Wednesday.
Anyone else interested in MIUI for our tabs? If 25 of us just do $10, this guy, might just deliver something awesome.
Can, you provide us with a little more info on your dev skills; can you handle such a task? Also, a donate button, or paypal link would help your cause, getting donations.

Hah' thanks for the plug. In theory this would be my first full blown rom. Ive always done the testing, never the up front work. I've gotten my tab to the point where I don't even care if JB gets ported to it. Everything works, its stable, snappy, and makes no sense to mess with it.
As for my Atrix4G...that ****s taken a beating and MIUI was my choice. There where too many minor bugs and since I want a phone that works full time, I stopped messing with that and went back to Jokers latest. Searching around I can't find anything for a 3113 and MIUI. In short, if I had something else to fart around with and get it to the point where it works as well as what I'm writing you with...I'd love to share, maintain, etc. Paying for the shorties education, sports, etc comes first...hah. took the honest approach with this one.

Well the GTab 2 is relatively a new device so it takes some time for the community to grow. As for MIUI I have seen the Gingebread version and it's far more superior to stock rom in my previous x10i, so I also like to see the Gtab ICS version of it

MIUI on the Atrix was outstanding - video cam and a few other minor issues is the only thing holding me back there. I could see the potential on a gt2 esp with a kernel mod... who knows, it's just a thought! polska dobra!
Sorry man but if you want a tab 2 then buy one. They're cheap.
Miui would be cool but it wouldn't be hard for any decent developer to port. Plus with the popularity of this tablet miui will come, just a matter of time.
i hear you - hoping some decent developer forgets to work on their nexus, xoom, kindle and picks up a tab2 instead... and gets the IR to work properly

Also this might be worth checking out aswell

I'm wouldn't dare touch the title of RecDev... but I'm interested in getting into it. I'm Gonna poke around in this... seems like everything to make this happen is sitting right there on the table so to speak.
And let's not forget that if it works on the 7.0 it can be ported to the 10.1 with less effort...

From what I understand from reading a few articles about this is that the 2014 date is for manufacturers to ship it pre-installed on the phone, whereas it is released next month for the Galaxy Nexus whether it be the source code or a prebuilt image, but as it uses the android kernel and drivers so I wouldn't be surprised to see unofficial ports in the next few months for many of the high end devices including the Note 2.
Why a fail? I'm interested in seeing it! And playing around with it! It looks pretty cool. I'm sure when Android first came out everyone thought the same thing, but look at how it flourished.
Sounds awesome to me. They are clearly struggling to get OEMs on board, so I think releasing images to let the modding community have a play is a great way to build momentum and gain feedback.
It's how MIUI got started, and I hope it works for Ubuntu.
With a phone as powerful as the Note 2, it's a shame it can't run anything more than android for docking & use with monitor/keyboard/mouse.

Looks very nice! I have been following there progress for sometime...They really need to get this O/S on board with OEM's in 2013, but like said I am sure we will see ports soon, hopefully for the N2!

Hey folks, I'm keen to start work porting the gnexus image for Ubuntu to the N7000 when it's released later this week. Is anyone else keen to join this effort?
While very familiar with the linux commandline, servers, desktop linux, and flashing my phone, I haven't compiled much code before and am unsure where to start. I would appreciate any advice you might have.
Looking forward to getting this os running on our original notes.

Deleted sorry wrong post.
I would love to see some support here. Push!
I'm presuming you're going to need to build an unbuntu compatible kernel for the note, mobile devices don't tend to work in the same way as desktops, so the pretty much universal kernel model used on the desktops don't work too well here. (size being the major consideration).
Not really looked into what they are doing, I'm presuming they will release source under gpl, so at least you will be able to diff a standard gnex build and the ubuntu. You can then use that as a basis to rebuild for the note.
"Porting" an image if that's all they release is going to end up quite messy.
EDIT according to techradar they will release source http://www.techradar.com/news/softw...galaxy-nexus-nexus-4-coming-next-week-1131567
But doesn't it run on android kernel without any modifications?

You think every android phone runs on the same kernel? Think again.
It's always a possible that they will use an Android kernel for the gnexus or n4 builds, but it's unlikely, as Android has some features that don't play too nicely with a mainstream Linux build.
Not seen this yet, nor code for it, so can't say exactly what they are doing yet.

See what happens when it comes out then, but would seem from the information Canonical is presenting that they are using standard android kernels. Will be interesting to see.

Well, one step at a time. First get it to work, then dual boot is the next step.
Finally, it might be possible to run them "together", for example running CM apps in Ubuntu Touch.
I mean by transforming the base Android system into a fully-fledged CM and connect it up to Ubuntu.
Not sure that is feasible yet, but there might be a chance. And it is sure a while down the road.

Really disappointed that it's only a "skin" on top of CM10.1, proper ubuntu is what we need, to actually run linux apps but still, every advancement is positive but I'm not interested in another android port, I like jelly bean as it is, AOSP ftw.

It's not running on top of CM10.1 is running on top of the CM10.1 kernel (and some drivers for the hardware) and I wouldn't say it's fair to call that a "skin". That's like calling every linux distro a linux skin.
true, my frasing is wrong but it doesn't change the fact that it's not capable of running linux apps, it's just another take on android, and on a tablet such as this I'd love to be able to dual-boot into android/linux, let's see where archlinux will take us but with the way things are changing and people upgrading to newer devices this will be left behind as well eventually, and to think that since the first quad core device a year ago today we call the tegra 3 a low-powered chipset compared to the powerhouses coming out, and people still don't have a quad core cpu at their home pcs and laptops, anyway, offtopic, let's see...
as far as I heard from many different people now it is just something to show the skin as main features like wallpaper, rotation and others aren't working yet although they should... Basically I would prefer a dualboot solution with stock ubuntu and android, but just my personal opinion...
