My sources tell me that the Usa version of Xperia z will carry the new snapdragon 600 series !! That's why it didn't come out Jan or Feb and there releasing it Q2 and it makes total sense cause if it didnt have the new and improved 600 series snapdragon they should of released it q1 to not have any losses during all of quarter one but it makes sense why there there waiting for Q2.. whoopie .... Thanks Sony for using the new 600 series on the Usa version of Xperia z I'm glad I didn't try and buy a different phone now in quarter 1when I had an upgrade available ..

why would only the US version of the Xperia Z get the new chipset?
your souces sound false.

That would be rather odd, if that was the case.. I'd like to see that, before I believe it. Would be the poorest marketing move of Sony yet..

Delaying launch will only hamper sales as new competition will be out then... surely Sony never want that
Where is Spectre51.. he has a good insider to I believe
Yeah it's likely less than 1% true if you ask me. Although I would have believed it if it were samsung or htc but sony? Nah! Not gonna happen even if it would be the end of the world
No info on the different CPU part of the original topic. Highly doubtful.

While I don't necessarily believe this so called "leak" I do believe that if we're to wait until Q2 for this phone, it should be updated with the latest chipset. Consumers don't want to feel like they are buying a new device with "old" tech inside, even if the performance is still great and it is not that old. I WANT Sony to sell their ZL here in Canada with the new 600 series, considering the new chips are available.

Exactly if they wanted to make sales and have ZERO losses at all period it would of released already globally but it didnt cause they want to make sure the usa version has the new An improved 600 series that's why its not out yet also hasn't given out any details regarding it there waiting FOR 21 to announce everything ...at that big show and they will use the new 600 series as the marketING scheme to get people to buy it.. I mean lets be total seriously here if its not gone have 600 series it would be released already GLOBALLY !!!!! It would have been the smartest choice to realease the best phone in Q1 before other great phones come OUT they would have had an entire quarter all to themselves for people to buy there phone but they can't so there waiting til Q2 when they have enough supplies of the 600 series to realease the phone with.

Well then, sounds like one of the carriers might be picking one of the devices up after all (of course, after applying the usual branding). Good for Sony, didn't expect AT&T to pick up any Xperia's this period.
Might be something else but I can't really think of anything. Sony doesn't like making a lot of hardware adjustments (especially not internals) so that pretty much rules out a Snapdragon 600 for H1.

I like it. It sounds like they're going to straight-up release it for use with Flashtool. With the work that the developers have done in porting roms to the R800x, chevyowner in particular, it should be a really good development in terms of updates.
please add cdma to this thread title, otherwise a lot of gsm use will get a shock for their life xD
It doesn't really pertain specifically to CDMA. It's a general deal, apparently, that Sony is delaying, and aren't releasing OTAs.
Verizon's Firmware is different from Sony's, so I still believe if Verizon does update your devices that it will be OTA, As of other carriers, I don't know.
The .145 firmware was a UK firmware that supported CDMA variants, which is mostly the Verizon Xperia Play. I believe if Sony could do it then, they can do it again. I'm holding out hope for this one.
I'm patiently awaiting the UK ICS Rom for my r800x.

Yeah... but atleast they've told us that if it'll run on 2011 Xperia devices or not so we don't jump in straight and update to Ice Cream Sandwich which then would be a problem for us.
So, I guess all us with a 2011 Xperia model will have to stay on Gingerbread. Well I don't mind as long as everything runs smoothly which it does on Gingerbread.
I am still a unhappy though cause I was looking forward to ICS I waited so long !
I had a feeling it was a bad sign when Verizon offered me a free upgrade..... Glad they chose to grease the squeaky wheel.... Still sucks though....
You know what? I think sony tells us bullsh*t... my friend has Nexus S with OFFICIAL ICS and it's perfectly smooth. This phones specs are similar to ours - 512 MB of RAM and 1GHz CPU. There aren't any problems on it so it means having nicely optimized ICS on our phones is possible but it seems Sony are sh*tting pants now and telling us right before ICS launch that it won't be running smooth because it needs more resources. I think they are too lazy, there were always problems with their company if we talk about upgrades. X10 has got 2.3 for 8 months and it's still full of bugs. I'm sure I'm not the only one who afraids of this upgrade and not the only one who's mad at them (look at the comments on their blog). They promised great update and now they made us thinking is there a sense of upgrading to ICS if it's so slow in their opinion. Shame on you, Sony.
EDIT: Besides - Sony will soon launch Xperia Neo L in China. The phone with THE SAME hardware specs as our phones. So that means its ICS will be slow too? What's the point in releasing the phone with "slow SQL, low ram and heavy CPU use"?

lol true. It's got nothing to with ICS but it's all got to do with the Sony Delevopers !
And it's good that they actually highlight these possible issues anyway! I would much rather know this than update blindly and find them later by myself. Then again, what people seem to want is to hear that their device is magical. It sells better indeed.

We were glad to provide the Android 4.0.4 upgrade for our 2011 Xperia portfolio across most markets and the majority of models but, after thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich.
Beyond Ice Cream Sandwich we would not able to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand. We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases.

Seriously, my phone runs much smoother in JB than on ICS... Thnk you SONY -.-
Seriously Sony's multimillionaire software department can't make a good JB firm for Neo/Arc/S and can do it for Xperia J?
Disappointing but expected news. I'm personally not surprised. It's most likely for marketing. And anyways it's been almost 2 years already since their release. I guess Sony wants everyone to buy their current and future lineup of Xperias.
We should also be thankful that Sony upgraded our phones to ICS. LG isn't even upgrading their 2011 phones as far as I know.

I only don't understand why they don't upgrade the arc s... But I think this is the biggest problem with android. Look to samsung, the sgs plus was released almost the same time as the arc s, has similar parts and price and didn't even got ics...
I think the problem is that Sony is lazy to do the JB upgrade. JB requires same requirements as ics the only down side is the 512 mb memory but other phone with the same phone power will still deliver the JB hope they can get back in there word qnd deliver JB to us.

Best way is ..more of us ...to don't buy any sony phone ,because they take this fkkk solution ....not to give us ..the owner of 1.4 GHz ..sony device ..a taste of JB...., that's shame ...
I will sell my device and bye a decent phone....( to have 1GB RAM , front facing camera , enough internal storage .., not like this ..420 MB...., and also a decent battery .) , because I don't want to spend all my money to bye a new phone ..every 5 months ...
This is why I'm getting a Samsung phone next year. Samsung's flagship model from 2011 got JellyBean. and what is more pathetic, JB is incomparably smoother and faster than ICS.
time to change brand!
Well, the last few weeks I've been confused whether my next device will be a Nexus, a Lumia or an Xperia,
now I just need to choose between the first two
(Not that Lumia will surely provide better support, I want to know how good/bad is WP8 through experience, I'll keep the arc S though, still the sexiest phone I've ever had)

Can't people just be happy that support for this phone has not been dropped (yet), instead of complaining about timescales for release of the promised updates?
I thought people on these forums are a little more in the know than most places and would realise that it's not a fast process to prepare, test and release an update that isn't completely broken/full of bugs.
I guess I was wrong lol.

The developers here do a fantastic job and I have massive respect for everything they do for the modding/Android community. Several devices of mine have had their useful lives extended greatly because of people on XDA.
However, they are not under the same constraints as the devs that work for Sony.
Sony's devs will be under strict developmental, testing and qa constraints and cannot release updates with bugs and rely on people providing bug reports/logcats to fix said bugs after the fact. They have to release software with all features working and with minimal bugs.
Not to mention all the red tape/paperwork they no doubt have to deal with and the other devices that all need maintaining. I would also imagine that the budget for maintaining older devices is dwarfed by the budget for new devices.
It's also worth noting that a lot of the devs good work on XDA is only possible because of blobs/binaries provided by Sony's devs in the first place.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
Sony releases an update with a camera app that takes 4 sec to open and everyone loses sleep over it while some1 here releases an update with wifi issues, screen on delays etc, they get praise for the device bring up which gets labeled as 1st release. lol
Obviously Sony cant depend on rapid development and recoveries and backups and all the fancy stuff we do when we get into issues when it relates to the average android user who by the phone and occasionally plug it in for PC companion to update and that's it. When wifi stops working no one is gonna say " oh this is a first release. They will fix it soon". People take back the devices and swap brands like that. Consumers are a fickle bunch.
Also as I have always said to myself , AOSP is the most barebones and feature lacking kind of experience out there. Android has matured a lot since the froyo gingerbread days and so have the OEM modifications. The reason I decided on the XZ against the N4. I am one willing to sacrifice smoothness for functionality any day. My Z is still stock and I will probably keep it that way til the EOL is reached. I came from the LG O2x which got ICS in December/January so trust me when is say I can wait lol.

Overall Performance seems better on KK. The difference between ART and dalvik is pretty big in some apps aswell. 4.3 brings trim.
The camera however ... Not so sure about that. I doubt they will even update the camera stuff. Why bother spending time and money optimizing an old flagships camera when people can just buy the New flagship with a camera that is advertised to be incredible? That's how a big company works. Time is money. Sad reality.

I personally hope that it'll get the same treatment as Z1 (prioritised updates during its 1st year...?), but I kind of have a feeling that it's going to be overlooked. I guess it'll depend on the sales too...?

Xperia Ion - released June 2012. Last updated by Sony: June 2013 (twelve months later). Plus the last version released was 4.1.2 Jelly Bean (which was released by Google in October 2012). So really it only got four months of support.
Xperia S - released February 2012. Last updated by Sony: August 2013 (18 months later). However again, the last version released was 4.1.2 which was released by Google in October 2012, so really 8 months of support.
At most we can expect to see KitKat and the next android version to come to our Xperia Z1Cs. Beyond that we won't get support. But this is XDA, we don't need official updates anyway :victory:

It's just that I haven't seen a massive marketing push for this from Sony.. So it's like they're not giving this model the attention it deserves, which might mean they're not planning to support it. I really hope I'm wrong on that though.
There was a full page advert for the Z1c on the back of the free London Evening Standard newspaper yesterday.

Seems like Sony is getting better and faster with updates nowadays (That was 2012 now is 2014). Look at T,V or Z for example.
Just like my favourite album from Calvin Harris : "18 Months"
at least Sony has to update this phone in 18 months update cycle.
I'm just saying
So is it confirmed the Z1c will get the same update that the Z1 will get come March?

Yes, of course. I don't know about March but KitKat will surely come. And beyond KitKat updates will probably come as well. No worries there, really.
I think that the manufacturers should support the devices they sell but not in they way that some people believe they should. I think they should only provide software updates to fix bugs and improve performance. I do not believe that they should offer updates to the next version of android. It takes a lot of resources and money to adapt android x.x with Sony interface and then make it work on a dozen different devices. Resources that could be put towards a better experience on newer devices. I feel that if I pay for a device with android 4.3, 4.3 is what I paid for. Not 4.3+4.4+4.5 . On the flip side I believe that when a new version of android is made available that manufacturers not be allowed to offer a device with an older version. That would take some effort from Google and the manufacturers but it would be great if all the phones that came out after Halloween already had KitKat. And let the hate commence.

I don't think I could imagine being in that kind of customers shoes.

Hardware now is at the point where a high-end phone should last a good 3 years or even indefinitely.. I mean.. do we need 8 cores and 4k screens? I would not want an environment where a producer is forced to spawn new hardware just because new software is available, I would like it to happen more organically than that.
While hardware arms-race is great at drastically improving performance in new technology, there should theoretically be a limit where hardware improvements may not outweigh the cost to the consumer, and it is at this point where software takes over. Processing power and screen resolution is at a point where anything more is redundant. At least I think that software is where the future is at. I'd take a good and useful feature, instead of imperceivable pixel-density or more CPU power.
Keep in mind I'm not saying screen resolution and cpu-core improvements are worth zero, I just think they may not be worth as much as Qualcomm is trying to make us believe. Battery performance on the other hand, gimmie -- though this is equal parts software and hardware. There are many hardware improvements that are infinitely more useful than a new android-version, unfortunately they are overlooked by the naive consumer that just want whatever the producers can most easily improve upon.
I feel that if I pay for a device with android 4.3, 4.3 is what I paid for.

Ha! You've got to be kidding, you can not possibly defend this statement? When you pay 500$ for a phone, you'd rather have Sony forget all about you and move on the next phone? A new android major-version update can be just as impressive and fun as new hardware, and if you don't want it, don't install it? I don't count bug-fixing, included in the price of a new phone, should be the promise of a bug-free and functional device.

I hope this doesn't come off as my being totally USA-centric, but the biggest worry I have in this regard is the lack of U.S. sales, and hence, support. How much of a flagship device can it be without including the largest (counting the EU as separate markets) market? I'm looking hopefully to MWC for some clue otherwise, but not very confident.

I was also quite irritated with Sony's choice to practically ignore the USA. Im also wondering why they hold back some devices and accessories for the Japanese market for weeks or even months before they are released to the rest of the world.

Largest smartphone markets (predicted for 2014):
Country - Annual sales
China - 283 million
India - 225 million
USA - 89 million
Distant third, dude. But at least you beat Russia in the ice hockey, there's a bit of national pride to cling on to.

Because Sony has always been a domestic brand (like many Japanese companies) but also with a large European arm for the majority of their products. Anything successful in both these markets will eventually find its way further afield.
Given their current financial state, you can hardly blame them for not wanting to take risks.
And let's not forget the US market for the average consumer is totally inaccessible with only one SKU per colour.
