Camera.apk - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a strange problem. I guess I accidently removed my camera app from my phone when I was rushing through one day removing bloatware. I'm running the stock 4.2.1 that came with the phone and have only rooted it. I know I could flash a new rom and it would come with it and all would be well, but I'm happy with my phone at the moment and don't want to have to fool with finding a good rom. My question is where can I find the original Camera.apk? I've downloaded a couple stock roms and even gapps.zip but unable to find it. Is it nestled within a larger .apk or am I just blind lol. Any help at all is appreciated. Thank you in advnace.
fyi: I have confirmed the app is completely removed and not just hidden or frozen in some manor. Using 3rd party apps to take pictures just force closes that particular program.

Camera Launcher for Nexus 7 - This app is compatible with your T-Mobile LGE Nexus 4.
I have no idea what this apps is used for. Give it a try.

I had a similar issue but my mistake was I disabled stock gallery to use quickpic. Later i realised and enabled gallery app and my camera came back again
Hope it helps

You know what, I think I did disable the gallery and that sorta makes sense. That did the job. Thank you so much. I probably never woulda realized that lol.
Thank you for your suggestion too opticaldh. I would tried it out if the gallery thing didn't work lol.

Reflash the stock rom (4.2.1 or the latest 4.2.2) and you`re good to go.

Blandroid on N1

I just noticed, blandroid rom on the rom manager menu, has anyone tried it on N1? I'm using cm7 Rc4 and I know you'll all say stick with it, but I'm still curious.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
I noticed it a couple of weeks ago. It says it's a stable 2.3.3 with no bloatware. Sounds very intriguing...in fact so much so that I downloaded it, but have yet to flash it...lol.
Certainly tempting isn't it, is this a case of who goes first lmao, out of interest how big is it? I notice the cm7s are just over 80 mb.

Seems like a plain stock ROM, nice to see to be honest.
Noticed the same thing, but was wondering what all it supports, site doesn't say much. I.E. what kernel it has/supports, TB alert stuff like that.
Hopefully the dev comes and explains what all he's done.
Well, I flashed it, for like an hour then when back to cm7 using the recovery I made.
First thing, market didn't work.
Secondly it didn't have the extra apps cm7 has, which I expected, but I instantly missed theme chooser.
Thirdly it wiped my contacts list.

First. The market issue is probably a wipe issue as I had the same problem with two different MIUI GB ROMs.
Secondly. That would be the lack of bloatware mentioned above. It's like stock android, so not sure why you even flashed it if you wanted bloatware.
Thirdly. It didn't wipe your contact list you didn't sync with google, becaue all of your contacts are backed up there.
You know what, I knew that'd be the replies I got, to be honest I'm curious of any rom that 1might increase battery life, currently using 85% over 10hours!! And of course the dreaded wonk which is seemingly inherent with cm7.
I couldn't force Google to sync with my phone, all my contacts are stored with Google you're right there.
Btw how would I get the market back?

I think it is another keyboard app. When you go to change the keyboard, it lists something in all Asian symbols.
I just deleted it and I have not noticed any difference with how blandroid runs.
The wonk was almost fixed on latest release of cm7. If you don't have the latest version, try it.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Nearly fixed isn't fixed. The problem is really dragging out and these stock ROMs are showing that its fixed with them. Wonking isn't the only issue at the moment either. There is still problems with the sound levels after docking the phone sometimes where its maximum level is halved etc.
CM is an ace project and I truly respect the guys and their efforts behind it, but CM7 is very buggy, and when it starts to affect the ability to take calls its hard to use it.
Oh! Thx for the reply. I got scared and ran back to cm7

Went for this until the CM stable kills the wonk; now I may not go back. I haven't used it for long enough to know about stability. I think of it as pure AOSP, but already rooted (and a just a few essential CM goodies).

So far, I haven't found anything missing I need.
And if you want a bit more eye candy and customization, just install launcher pro or adw.launcher from the market.
I give it thumbs-up!

Nexus s launcher

Does anyone have the actual launcher for the nexus s that doesn't look low res on eg22. I usually use the eugue373 gingerbread launcher from the market but it looks low Res for some reason. I know it was like that on ef02 and marcusant had it working correctly. Any thoughts?
There are two gingerbread launchers on the market. You might try the other one.
Just use Sprint ID. Search for the "Clean" ID and apply it. It will give you the *real* Gingerbread launcher.

No, it only gives you the gingerbread phone icon and app drawer. Id icon is still on the tab.
Bumping this.
Does anyone have a clue how to make the reg aosp launcher work correctly. Marcusant has the only rom that uses it. His Bamboozled roms use it as well and it looks great. I've even tried pulling the apk from his rom and just installing it on other ef02 eg22 roms, it works but looks like crap.
Not trying to be a troll or anything but AFAIK the only difference between the Sprint ID launcher and the standard launcher is the Sprint ID icon that cannot be changed, the menu and desktop UI is the same.

I probably should have stated I tried the actual nexus launcher from another thread on here. As well as the 7 homescreen launcher, same issue. Very strange. I'm sure it's something minor causing it. I think I may just ask marcusant on acs's site.

Just flashed it, very cool with 7 homescreens. Still does the same thing though. It's not super terrible looking, it's just the icons when you hit the drawer, they show up and they are like low res looking. It's been discussed before and marcusant said he knew how to fix it. I'm going to see if I can just get any info out of him on the acs forum.

EH17 is 2.3.4, though... Was wondering about 2.3.3
I'm sure someone will test on other builds... All good.
Not sure. But at one point I attempted to pull the system/lib/egl folder from marcusant's anonymous i3 ROM (it had a working stock launcher) and replace it on eh06, didn't work. Ai3 was 2.3.3. But I was trying to put it in a 2.3.4 ROM. Needless to say I don't know what I'm doing. But maybe that folder from Ai3 will work do for all other ef02 roms if this zip doesn't.
Out of curiousity. Now that we have this. Does anyone a zip of the actual nexus s launcher. I'm using one I found on here but its not completely stock. When you go into landscape mode it turns into the froyo launcher.

Just for kicks, i went and downloaded a Nexus S Stock ROM... Come to find out that the landscape view on it is Froyo look aswell. The GB Launcher on the market seems to just be a slimmed down version. I'll zip the fix and launcher up and post in Themes.
Oh that's super weird but it makes sense cuz of the lack of a keyboard. Good stuff though.

Darkside Sense and Genius button?

I'm tearing my hair out here... Maybe someone can fill in the blanks for me.
I recently switched to this rom as suggested by a user of this forum. Fantastic Rom, and I regret stating on stock for long.
However, the lack of a genius button is almost a deal breaker for me as I use it to text while driving - I just hit the button and connect it to my stereo.
In my attempts to add the functionality back in (which according to another thread here is possible), I'm having no luck, but plenty of fc's.
To be honest, I know enough to root a phone and flash a Rom, but this one is a little rough for me, so I admit I took the lazy approach...
First I found a zip file for the app, but it just fc'd even after fixing permissions and rebooting.
Second I tried adb to push the files to their app appropriate locations, but I can't figure the damn program out.
I finally settled on using es explorer to move the files from my sd. I fixed permissions with rom manager and rebooted, and it still fc's.
Any ideas? Bad download? Am I missing a related app that is tightly integrated with this one?
I suppose I could try restoring the stock rom, backup the genius app, flash darkside and then restore the genius backup, but that's a pain...

Hmm, I never tried putting the genius app sense 3.5. You used the Genius app for GB, right? There is one for Froyo and one for GB. I know that the apk HAS to be a system app or its FC city.

I believe it is the GB app, but since the first link I tried was dead, It's possible I pulled the wrong one while searching for the file elsewhere. I'll check that.
The two apk files are in system/app, and the two so files are in system/lib as per instructions given in a thread.

It's a legitimate request I've seen before. I mean, why let your old devices just waste away when your children or family members could totally use them as dirt cheap replacements for iPods and such. You don't want them making accidental emergency calls or circumventing the settings you put in place.
Should be able to completely remove the radio somehow so that the cellular stuff just won't work.

Maybe this is a project for some of the budding devs on xda. In theory, it sounds like a simple change. Simply remove the phone aspects of a rom and repackage. I'm sure it's harder than it sounds in terms of stability and usability though (I'm not a dev) =/

Eh, some apps certainly wouldn't work, anything that needs to communicate through telephony and such. But really shouldn't be that difficult.
I'll come back when I'm not too terribly busy with some links about breaking down and customizing ROMs and such. I know that I've found a thread specifically for this kind of thing for another device, but there are a few of them I read up on so it may take a while to locate. Hell, you could just about remove the phone and contacts apps and edit your build.prop and leave an existing ROM intact. I'm no dev or anything though lol so I'll look around.

Not the OG article I had read, but after a bit of Googling I came up with a script that you should be able to set to run at boot which will disable your radio.
You may also be able to dial *#*#INFO#*#* and choose turn off radio, but that will not be persistent across reboots. I would use the script and a third-party launcher that can hide apps so that you'll keep the phone and contacts apps and such for stability, but not have them readily available.
*EDIT:
And a flashable zip! Thank you jellybellys!
**EDIT:
Just to elaborate about that flashable zip, it will actually "permanently" (until you wipe and install another ROM) disable the radio and clean out the apps that you don't want. Also installs some kind of binaries if they're currently absent from the ROM. Great find, I'm glad you asked about this!
exactly, my first thought would be just to use titanium backup and disable/freeze but not remove apps such as dialer or what you dont want/need. not sure if this will work but its worth a try. probably a few treads across xda on this (especially on older model phones) id search in those and see if there is a quick answer short of developing a whole new rom

So that's the MIUI.us "Pure English?" I've just downloaded the last available build and will soon flash and then install jellybellys's zip. I'm hoping that will get me the same FC's as you are.
Once you've gotten home after the weekend, try rebooting it a time or two and see if it consistently gives you the FC's.
Also, just curious, but are you using MIUI just because it's the most similar Android overlay to iOS? To make it a bit easier for your friend? Because you could hook him up with some ICS goodness otherwise
*EDIT:
Ok, looking through his updater-script vs. my /system/app/ directory, it looks like MIUI names a couple of apk's differently. I'm currently installing a fresh MIUI so that I can see the directory before moddified by the OG jellybellys zip, then I'll update his zip to reflect those different names and try to run it again. If successful, I'll post the modified file and hopefully we can get your friend a fun little multi-tasking media player
Ok sweet umm can u send me the edit zip
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk 2
Had a good look at the flashable zip, very simple. I need to learn to code, I guess this is a good small place to start lol
All I did was unzip his file, change a few things and added a couple extra lines to remove one more app he hadn't worried with. As said above this will disable your radio, install the radiooptions binary if absent, and remove a number of apk's from the /system/app/ directory.
Removed apps:
TelephonyProvider.apk - cellular service
TelocationProvider.apk - emergency location service (I just don't see the need if you're not connecting to cellular networks)
Phone.apk - your phone app - should also get rid of dialer, I'm trying to find out why it doesn't.
Mms.apk - messaging app
All credit to jellybellys @ rootzwiki.com of course, I couldn't have written this myself or anything.
jellybellys-mod-wifionly-MIUI
Again, the phone app will still be on the homescreen and you actually can't remove it. It won't dial anything, and will just cause the acore process to FC if you try. It's looking like the only way to get it really removed is to modify the ROM's zip so that it never installs the app to begin with.
I'm going to restore the apps again, see if Titanium Backup can't do a better job than outright removing the app does.

Keyboard is extremely laggy

Hey guys,
I just bought a brand new Nexus 4 from Google Play and I rooted it first with AOKP but now I'm on CyanogenMod. Within a couple of days my keyboard started to become so laggy that it just crashes while I'm texting or writing an email. I switched ROMs and I installed kernels to see if anything helps but after a few hours it gets back to the same problem.
I don't know if I should unroot it and go back to stock. Or what I should do because this is extremely annoying.
Any sort of help would be appreciated
Thanks!

Could it possibly be with anything else you install? I've never had a laggy keyboard before. Are you using the keyboard that comes with the rom or installing your own? I'll use either the stock keyboard or SwiftKeys.
Also do you have a large dictionary or other addons?

I just find it weird because I've had absolutely no laggy keyboard at all with my Nexus 4 (with either stock/rooted or with this SlimBean 4.2.2), using either the stock keyboard or SwiftKeys, it's a pretty powerful phone too so even swiftkeys with it's predictions shouldn't become laggy. I suspect there's something else amiss especially if you have this problem on more than one rom.

lol, root isnt the problem. unrooting it will amount to washing your cloths because your car is leaking air out of its tires. but, it can be cm. 1st, try just deleting the keyboards data in the main phone settings, app, all, then delete the keyboard apps data. if its not fixed, then boot into recovery and wipe your dalvik cache and cache. if still not fixed, try a different rom or different keyboard.
