Wiping Properly - EVO 4G General

I had an issue with my Roms saying insufficient memory after flashing and messing up DTa2sd (I think) . Anyways I flashed and flashed and flashed, but no matter what order I did them in, it didn't work. I made a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2151943. It details everything that I went through. But that issue is now resolved , and I only changed one thing after having wiped and flashed as much as possible. In SmelkusMod Recovery there is an option under "Combo Wipes" that says "Superwipe". I used this as my primary wiping method for the longest time. That is until I had this issue and said what the hey, I'll just use "Factory Data Reset". Worked like a charm :good:. So, this is my question: The only difference in these two methods is that Factory Data Reset also wipes android.secure. Was this actually what fixed my phone? What else could have happened?

No it also wipes your ext partition. You could have had an issue in either one. I alway do factory rest then super wipe. I flash roms daily sometimes several in a day. Never had an issue using that method.

I use the combo wipes all the time and i never had a problem,i use all of them, except the sd card wipe of course.

I use 2 wipes; Combo, Temp files and Factory Reset and I've never had a single problem.
The method is to wipe everything except SD:Card, which would erase everything on your SD Card

On a serious note combo wipes always work for me.

Yeah, the super wipe always messed with my phone after a while. And a2sd. Now, I use link2sd. So many more options, and it just feels safer.

I use all the smelkusmod wipes now. I never bothered wiping androidsecure until I encountered a problem restoring a ROM that had been working fine before testing a different one. Since then I make a point of wiping everything except the sdcard.

[Q] please help im new. already rooted

i just rooted my epic the other day. i want to get this synicate rom i been hearing about. can someone please tell me in a very inexperienced way how to get it done. what programs i need to down load. i have EC05 on my phone now. I think i have to upgrade somehow to ext4 or something like thta. please help .
Just follow the instructions in the second post of the ROM thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976194
When you do the one-click root with CWM3 and boot into recovery for the first time, it'll convert it to EXT 4 automatically. Also, when the instructions say "Wipe data", they mean do it three times each to data/factory reset, cache and dalivik. It will wipe data though, so save any apps you have with titanium backup or mybackup root.
do i need to download the one click 3.0.0 in order to get ext4?
Yes, SpicyBurrito references this when saying "...when you do the one-click root with CWM3..." You'll need to flash CWM3 to get ext4.
It will convert automatically the next time you boot into recovery...so have a ROM flash ready as the stock RFS ROM will no longer work.
so basically re-root my phone with that cw3 and then should i have the rom already stored on my sd card before i run the cw3? sorry for the dumd questions man but im new to the terms people use here and am a admitted newbie.
I have a video posted on what you need to do. There's a sticky thread in the general section

1 gonna dowload cw3 and sydicate files to desktop
2 going to plug up phone and transfer syndicate to sd card.
3 gonna unplug phone then turn on debugging and connect phone and run the cw3 file and let it run its course.
4 after that process is complete im gonna use the volume down, start and camera button to go into the files and clear all the 3 types of data,
5 then im gonna find the syndicate file and install it from sd card.
is this the way it is done. man i hope so

Hey jimmyjames, let me give you some advice. Slow down a bit.
You're jumping in to the idea of rooting and flashing too quickly. I know you're anxious, but read a bit more and watch some videos. Believe me, I've learned from that too many times.
Like right now, I'm really tempted to flash the new CM7 Alpha 4. But I usually am not comfortable flashing ROMs, so I'm waiting until it's stable enough to flash.
what files do i need to download to start over.? help please. and i will heed all future advise
Acer, I feel ya on that. I am also waiting plus I neef my gps and camera functioning.

Need help please!!!!! locked out on screen! Android password!

Hey guys I have a dilemma here. My 3 year old was playing with my tablet and when I powered it back on there's a little Android Guy with a password I have to login. I tried to restore a backup but I moves files around so MD5 were mismatched. I tried flashing a rom for a fresh install and still the Android icon still wants a password. Is there any way to bypass this? A clean install should erase any password that was in the.old rom right? Need advice fellas. Thanks!
an Nflash, which would wipe out everything would take out the password, sure. It should be fine though if you backup regularly, just flash your backup over recovery.
Doesn't it make you sign in with your google account if you get the password wrong 3 times? Try that
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
my phone makes me log in with my google account after trying the wrong password 15 times. after that you can change the password, i think it will be the same with the TF.
That is fascinating info, I had no idea. Excellent to know in case you run into something like this in the future.

Yeah, after a certain number of failed attempts you can log in via google account.
FYI if you want to do it via the flashing a rom route, it will only work if you wipe data and cache in cwm.

Can you let everyone know the outcome of this? I'd like to know if eventually I can use my google credentials (If the same thing ever happened to me).
Alright fellas I tried typing in like 100 passwords and nothing. It never asked me to login to Google account. Maybe its because I have just flashed a new rom? My 2 backups got corrupted so that's out of the question. I'm going.to try installing ARHD I might think the full superwipe might work but the link is down. If anybody has the superwipe file can you please post it. I'm new to tablets but not new to android and been reading up on NV flash. I'm hesitant though to try it. My Tablet was on the latest us update and rooted with razeeclaw one click. What do.you guys recommend? I know it's fixable cause I can still get into recovery and flash roms. Its just.that password verification shoes IP everytime, it wont even let me boot into the screen. Ill take a picture of the screen I see later. Please help lol.
I just tried this out on my transformer because I was bored.
After 5 attempts it locked me out for 30 seconds. After 5 more attempts it rebooted into recovery mode and then launched android. It had wiped all my data. Home screen layouts, apps, app data - the works.
I just restored from a CWM backup so no harm done - but this could be really annoying for someone who didn't have that option.
I'm guessing that it was the exchange server that my email account is linked to that caused the wipe.
Here is the lockscreen I'm getting whenever I load up after full wipes. I never uses the Asus lockscreen only the pattern so I don't know if this is the password default one. I'm gonna try flashing the superwipe then ARHD before I go the nvflash route. Is there a good tutorial for nvflashing? Sorry for the nooby questions but this is all new to me. Thanks!

Nice man. I think you probably could have wiped that manually to get it working too but it never hurts to superwipe. I'm sure you know but there is a superwipe lite version too that doesn't wipe the internal sd card.

Was it because the filesystem was encrypted? I recently purchased a transfomer and noticed there was an option to encrypt the local filesystem and it would a require a password during bootup that is not tied to your google account.
Yeah, looks like encryption was turned on. That's why it didn't ask for a password, this is before the system boots

I'm having the same issue with the same screen and keyboard minus the safe mode text. Ive tried super wipe, reflashing and restoring, nothing is working, still boots with the revolver animation and ends up at the keyboard. Help!

Lost Internal Storage

The other day I unlocked the bootloader, rooted and then flashed CM10.1. I then decided to go back to stock as 4.3 was rolling out. So I've reverted everything back and it is now stock 4.3. Yay!!
But I've just realised that instead of showing full storage, it's showing half. Instead of 12 GB available, it's only showing 6 GB.
Is anyone able to help solve this please?

You flashed back to stock so you don't *need* to root. If you want to root stock then just simply flash the SuperSU zip through recovery.

Philz recovery via Odin.
I actually posted the wrong thread on how I got the ROM. The last post has been edited to reflect it. But here is the correct link.
Weird. I have the mf9 bootloader
Using Philz 6.08.9
I Odin'd the NAE modem/firmware from Unknownforce's thread.
Then have installed just about every ROM here without issues.
Only thing I do is wipe everything at least two times, REBOOT recovery then flash what ever I want. Seems something happened with your original flash/partitioning.
Might want to just try using the full NAE .tar and get all your partitions reset/fixed it's here in the dev section.

I was trying to make that my last option, it's such a pain in the ass to reinstall and reconfigure everything. At least I can restore most app data via TB, but I've had too many problems in the past trying to use a TB backup to reinstall apps between different ROMs.

Well if you make a TB backup, do a full wipe and redownload all your apps fresh and then just re-install data (and missing apps) you'll surely have a MUCH smoother system!
It might take a little while longer getting everything configured. But even if it took a few hours it'd still be less than the hours and days spent trying NOT to wipe.

Thank you bro , I'll try it & let u know.
Its a compactbility issue!
Most of the time everyone gets some compatibility problem when they upgrade to cyanogen 12 with dalwik cache, normal cache, app datas of some apps especially launchers.
So what is the cure. Boot into recovery, clear cache. If that does not work, try a full wipe and factory reset.
It will surely solve you issue!:good:

If you factory reset your phone you will wipe your data ie your apps, games etc. But the files in SDcard would remain there. It is better to take a backup ( copy files to computer)
Steps
1) Power off your phone.
2) Press vol+ , vol- and pwr button together. When scree lits up release pwr button. Then after 2 sec or so you will see cyanogen recovery pops up.
3)By using touch screen touch wipe cache.
4)select yes
5) Select reboot your phone.
Look if the problem is solved.
If not
1) Do steps till 2 in last steps.
2)now you r on cyanogen recovery. Select Wipe data/factory reset.
3)Select yes
4)Reboot
Your apps will be wiped up and your problems will be solved!
Hit thanks if I helped you in any way
