In about 3-6 hours I'm going to release a PA rom for the Bravo that's been pretty good for the past 12 hours on my Defy. I just now started a new compile that should be my Bravo release build . Its smooth, feature filled, all the PA and Quarx commits possible, only had 4% battery drain overnight, and I've only noticed one bug (forced closed process directly on boot up, doesn't actually affect anything that I know of).
The only thing that'll keep me from releasing in that 3-6 hour time frame is if my Dad starts playing CoD -- we're limited to 70kbps up with 4mbps down....makes it hard to upload anything while playing online games....damn, crappy ISP -- but its the only cable internet available, still faster than the DSL in the area, and faster+cheaper than satellite. Throttled to mainly prevent super seeding, but screws with any torrent traffic. Sucks cause I like using torrents for Linux isos, among other things .

Been running Salvage-Full-#5 all day today and haven't run into any bugs thus far.
I got to say, I really like the changes that have been made from v1.1 while still maintaining the speed of the rom. Awesome work. By far my favorite GB rom (favorite rom, for that matter).
Im seeing the txt for #6 but no rom?

Any progress on finding out what is causing the high android system usage in the battery use screen as of yet ? I had a 45 min call with my mom (yeah moms can do that) and when I was done in battery usage "Android System" was at 75%

People generally try to reserve the dev forum for releases or at least release candidates. I think.

I have tried using the Rom in pure stock form (no apps and the standard kernel it comes with) I make a phone call I get high Android system usage . I have tried it with a the new SZ kernel with SBC and CFS *still does it*. I have tried it set up normally with all my apps and everything sync'ing still does it . Now in comparison to your phone and mine here is mine
HW004
All radios up to date , pri rolled back to 1.77 , PRL 60677
The one thing I have noticed is when I refresh the battery usage screen it will flicker another label over the Android System as if the phone is relabeling it . One time it was labeling it com.android.something , I couldnt make it out , another time it was flashing Settings before reverting back to Android System . I dunno if that will point you in the right direction or not or help you in any way .I wonder if its not data related ? *just thinking outloud* since when you are in a phone call it switches the phone to 2G and 3G is disabled (atleast on my phone) till the call is completed . Maybe during that time one of those processes is attempting to gain data access and isnt (Dunno just thinking outloud)
No problem, its fine just flashed #5 to stop the itch (coming from 1.1) I'm really liking the changes.great work
Also I like the 3 day builds instead of nightlies

if u look @ the processes under android system, salvageMod settings is one of em. amongst other things like google backup transport (id disable that google sync stuff)
but i suspect the savageMod settings like power widget/cpu settings clock/governor procedures prolly do run up the resources % numbers.
on refresh android system seems to say "com.android.systemstateui"
id need hdmi to work and record and freeze it to be sure.
i cant replicate it happening after a call either. after a 16 min call to my GF & 20 min call to my buddy, my android system is only @ 3%
but does randomly read up ion the 30-40% eventaully.

[Rom 4.0.1] NOV 27 GALNET MiUI ice cream sandwich 2.11.26 UPDATED {MOST BUGS FIXED}

This is basicly the same as miui, but based on ics framework, which make it faster and better.
I wanted to bring you this good news XD
From Galnet:
Galnet MIUI ICS is our experimental builds for the Ice Cream Sandwich framework being introduced into MIUI. These builds don’t look any different, however they do come with some of the ICS benefits such as power management and ram management.
Click to collapse
Changelog for 2.11.26 :
Network Modifications:
•Corrected Signal Strength Readings in Status
•Improved network power consumption
Framework Modifications:
•Implemented ICS sensor management
•Improved power consumption whilst sleeping
•Correctly implemented debugging settings via ADB
•Fixed issues with Tethering cutting out mid way through large transfers
•HW Acceleration Included (Browser, Video, Games etc)
•Android Market (Scroll via images leading to FC fixed)
•Improvement in Galnet Video Player playback
UI Improvements
•Implemented Extended Settings
•Implemented 4 Way Reboot
•Added ICS lockscreen to default theme
•Added ICS transaction effects
•Improved Sharpness and Display quality on I9000 and I9100 builds
•Added ICS Keyboard with Vibration Settings
OTHER INFORMATION
•The battery calibration will kick in straight away once flashing this rom, therefore you will find that the battery drains quicker than before. Please allow it to drain to around 5% before recharging fully back to 100% for the perfect calibration.
•Updater may FC on first boot, don’t worry about it, as it will work correctly once this occurs.
•Phone call recording (This is something that we won’t support due to legal issues within the UK, please don’t expect it).
Credit to galnet and all who participated
I flashed this yesterday, pretty stable and everything seems to work. There are a few things people should be aware of.
1. There is no voice control
2. If you synch your FB contacts you need to go into the FB app and tell it to synch
3. The battery life is so so
4. Make sure that you do a factory restset, clear cache partition, and clear dalvik before flashing.
Other than those things, this is a really nice ROM, very slick, very fast, and seems to be stable.

Honestly Im not sure what Kernel he's using but this is the info
2.6.35.12-gdf10700

Don't know if that helps any, I was wondering myself if there are any other compatible Kernels that may help with battery life
Say I was on (rooted, custom rom Paragon 6) 2.2, I could just stick it on the card and flash over or must I flash a cm7 kernel and then flash rom over that?

Soft brick. Flashing back to stock works after bricking into Galnet MIUI.
Also, OP, do you have anything to do with the Galnet project, or just providing a link?
I'm pretty shocked how smooth this Rom is. I do really like the look and feel to everything. Will report more later once I get to play with it
EDIT: Flashed from Illuminance 2.1 with no problems so far
Screenshots?
Can I have some screenshots please? I would to see how it is before I flash it. Thanks!

Latest Cyanogenmod [v7.2] performance

Cyanogenmod 7.2 RC1
Could not locate any thread on this. Please post your feedback.
Euroskank have been releasing RC1 kangs since forever. Performance is fine, add-ons are nice. I love the ROM but it's not stable on crespo and crespo4g. Other devices are fine though.
I used one of the latest nightly's for a few days hoping they had fixed the stability problems, pulled my phone out of my pocket and found it bootlooping(dim/garbled boot animation loop, which was new to me as before I would just get the 'buttons lit up no responsive sleep of death' with previous versions).
I doubt 7.2 fixed anything with crespo.
Wish someone could figure out what the problem was as stock doesn't have these problems.
Love all the features and tweaks CM7 has over stock, but pulling the battery on a regular basis is not what I would call a stable release.
instability on a stable RC from CM is discouraging.
did anyone report this to CM team?
You can submit bug reports if you find anything broken in your device while running CM7.2-RC1 be sure to submit a report through here , so that they can fix it in time for the final 7.2 release.

It's a long standing issue with it, as far back as 7.0.3, probably even further.
It's hard to catch a log of the bootloops because they're don't occur in any discernible pattern that I know of.

Though there's many users available for logging. I've pulled a billion logcats of what was happening when it froze/bootlooped. When it freezes you can still adb to it.
Problem is no one seems really concerned over at CM forums, they'd rather add more stuff than root out 6+ months old problems. *shrugs*
Oxygen FTW. Never crashes on me.

AOKP for Gtab AOKP | smb1002/Viewsonic G-Tablet (May 24 | Build 37 | 4.0.4)

If anybody interested in testing the AOKP port to Gtablet, the link is below. It is the AOKP forum. I tested it and I am very satisfied with it. I tested all the ICS versions from different teams but this one is the most stable and functional. Very happy with it.

I just flashed build 37 to my Gtab, and it appears to be alot faster and more fluent, than TeamDRH's latest build, (Beta 1.2) which I've been running up until now.
I appreciate their hard work, but found the relatively frequent ROM-slowdowns, to be unbearable. But considering the "no help"-policy Nvidia and Viewsonic seems to have instigated regarding the Gtab, I really do find their work amazing and a crucial step on the way in the further development for the Gtab.
I do have a few questions, which you may or may not be able to answer, however:
1) How come, when I flash gapps, Youtube doesn't appear to be installed?
2) When I search for Youtube in the Play Store, it doesn't show up.
- I'm assuming that this has something to do with the way the ROM authenticates/identifies itself to the Play Store.
- On a sidenote, a few other apps also do not show up, even when searching specifically for them. (LBE Privacy Guard among others)
- I yanked a copy of the youtube.apk from my phone, and while it's not tablet optimized, it works without any apparent problems, so it's not because it doesn't work.
3) The USB-connection, only consists of MTP or Camera-options (like the TeamDRH-ROM) and I seem to be unable to get the Gtab to present itself as a Mass Storage Device, so I might access the internal memory.
(Only way of doing this is booting to Clockworkmod and mounting the internal memory as USB-share)
I appreciate and applaud your effort in bringing AOKP to the Gtablet.
I dont know the exact answers as I just put the link here, I have nothing to do with development. I found this link by mistake and I wanted to share it with people. If you want answers, put your questions directly on the forum rootzwiki .

WOW AOKP to the GTAB
Hello just a few days ago I posted a (Q) in that forum asking if it was possible at all to develop an AOKP rom on the Gtab, then yesterday I basically found out that there was a 4th ICS rom for our devices and it was a AOKP port lol It was just crazy how that happened.
I did wonder, however, why the developer of the rom did not post it here or sdroid. thank you to OP for posting this but i'd mch rather have the developer to ask questions to bout the rom, but I guess Ill just have to head over to rootzWiki.
Anyway, this is pretty awesome that someone made this happen. I dont have AOKP on any other devices but i knew of the rom, and its awesomeness. Its a sick rom and im pretty excites. I think it may run as good if not slightly better than the other 3 ics roms, I just hope they continue to make it better with each release because it has potential.
I recommend that ppl should go check it out.
Hmmmm... might have to check this out...
Thanks for posting it. I never would have known.

I believe that it does not matter on ics ROMs. What is important is that your system partition be enlarged to 250MB and the easiest way to do that is to use the nvflash. See my easy guide http://raywaldo.com/2011/01/nvflash-for-dummies/

Since this is based off the kernel of DRH ans their drivers, what's the difference between the two? Is this more stable/faster? What are the benefits to this ROM over DRH?

What is a good ROM for daily use?

I don't have the phone, it's a friends with no tech knowledge so any recommendations would be great. Currently she is running ICS Passion with internet connection issues. So any good daily use ROMs would be great.

I would recommend any of the Froyo roms that fishman0919 or Ryder are releasing. They are solid as they come and the GPS works perfectly which can be an issue on the later roms. I'm currently using the Bi-Winning Redux v1 without any problems overclocked to 1.3ghz and everything is buttery smooth and stable.
Yea, I would definitely go with a froyo ROM by fish or ryder man. They are rock solid

Since you are using an ICS ROM, maybe you can try CM9 nightly, which is stable enough for daily use, even for people with no dev experience.

I don't know man I wouldn't use a nightly if I was looking for stability, the whole point of nightly builds is that they are not stable and stuff gets fixed/broken on a daily basis. If you're really set on ICS go with ICZen, but even that isn't as stable as the froyo roms.
Since your friend is already on an ICS Rom, why not keep it at ICS? ICS is stable. Things that may not work: 911 calling, and GPS
Go ahead and read this and flash it: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/21742-romimm76i-iczen-185-fistful-of-zen-7-12-12-deficient-development/

Although I've definitely heard of ICZen, which been my daily driver for months, I'm not too sure I know what rom you are referring to when you say "x10". I've never heard of it nor have I ever used it, thus I can't comment on that rom. However I can comment on ICZen and why it surpasses Passion and its... crumby (I believe that's an appropriate term to use) developers. Yes, Passion was pretty much the first highly popular ICS rom available for the Vibrant. I do give them props for that, however, I'm not sure if you've noticed but Passion is over four months old, development for it has been dropped, and its based on android 4.0.3. In contrast ICZen was last updated two weeks ago, is based on 4.0.4, and comes out of the box running the awesome subZero kernel. Unlike Passion, ICZen is based on AOKP, meaning it has all the bells and whistles that are also found in AOKP. This includes the theme engine, which gives you the ability to theme your phone with the click of a button. You can find a lot of nice themes for the theme engine both here and here. ICZen also sports Rom Control, which gives you more control over your device. The neat tweaks Rom Control offers ranges from being able to change the transparency of the status bar, to changing the battery icon, and even as far as to control the CPU. ICZen also receives support from two intelligent down-to-Earth developers, an awesome themer, and a whole community of people who know what the heck they're talking about. In conclusion, Passion may not have "problems", but don't torture your device with such an outdated rom made by developers many regard as... crumby... and instead get on board with some of the newer roms available! There's ICZen, AOKP, CM9, etc.
Thanks for the reply and I do agree with what you said. Passion is a great ROM but the devs do not give and have left xda. I'm definitely going to move to ICZ today.

the latest 4.2 slim rom works perfectly for me. I flashed subzero's build No 80 kernel on top and haven't had any problems yet what so ever. Getting 3 days on idle + GPS works even after deep sleep.

Glad to hear you're coming over to the Zen side.
I agree with the earlier posters with the fishman froyo ROMs, as I am still not sure about the stability of ICS roms. For daily use, I would like to have 911 and stable GPS.
I am quoting you not to single you out but to call reference to the same old addage of GPS/911.
You know, it really depends on what you want out of your phone. I mean, you need to ask yourself what do you want your phone to do. Do you want it to be a media hub? Do you want it to be a DLNA device? Do you use it to navigate through sh!tty traffic on your morning commute? These are all valid questions that YOU have to ask yourself.
Now down to brass tax. I agree with N00B's assessment of Passion and ICZen. Passion was all the rage when it first came out because we were lucky enough to get an "official" Froyo build, let alone a couple Kangs of Gingerbread. At that point the Vibrant was dead in the water. Then Neobuddy came out with Passion and all the incremental builds. Yes it was awesome to have an ICS ROM running and working on a device that the manufacturer said could not do it. Fast forward and Team Passion (TP from here on out) put out Euphoria (AOKP based) and was basically caught stealing ROM Control and renaming it Euphoria Control. Amends were made and development went on simultaneously with Passion. That had to leave a bad taste in their mouth because shortly after, TP started putting all their ROMs and work on their own site and not too much more on XDA (hence why many believed that Passion development stopped). BUT, they have put out a new ROM called Chimera which can be found on their website with instructions to flash.
Passion was great-at the time. Now that Google pushed out 4.0.4, there was a large amount of code cleanup that came with the tiny incremental numbered build. This was actually very important for the OS as a whole and now there are several ROMs that are based off the 4.0.4 build (AOKP, CM9, SLIM,...). But Passion is still on the 4.0.3 build. See where N00B was going with this in his post before?
I'm not saying that ICZen will be your best ROM you have ever run and you won't need to flash anything ever again. What I am saying is that if you are going to pick an ICS, at least pick one that is up-to-date, whether it be ICZen, Slim, AOKP/m6 or whatever.

Ahh, GPS. Well GPS is an issue and when the ICS ROMs were being pushed out, it was a hot-button problem for every one of them. Some work with this kernel and some work with that kernel. VIBRANT's GPS SUCKS. Get over it and move on. I say that with the utmost sincerity, meaning if you need to rely on GPS for work or something that is not trivial, get a Garmin or TomTom and use that. This is a phone and not a navigation tool (that is a side item).
911 is an issue and always will be. It just doesn't work right on anything higher than a 2.2 ROM and if it does, then it is sketchy at best. Take your chances and I am not supporting or damning it one way or the other. It is always better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. Here is my thoughts on Vibrant 911. When I was a kid, I was taught that if something bad happened and you were in a group, you were supposed to point to someone, make eye contact and say, "You, Call 911!". Now if you are in a car wreck or under the docks doing something swarthy, then you have bigger problems that your Vibrant's ability to dial 911. I am not joking and am not implying anything other than if I was ever in trouble and a ROM wouldn't let me dial 911, I sure as sh!t would be on the nearest person to get them to dial it.
Sorry for the long post but here it is.
tl;dr -> Figure out what you want your phone to do and then go from there.
Woodrube, I do agree with you, with respect to what you do want out of your phone. When I interpreted from the OP about using the phone daily, I interpreted it as their primary or possibly the only phone. I could be wrong in assuming this, but that is how I am using my Vibrant. When it is my primary phone, I do want GPS, and definitely 911 to be available. I see that a lot of people here actually use their Vibrant as their 2nd or 3rd phone, therefore, they are loading ICS ROMS and may not care as much about these services.
With GPS, I can see limited use with that. Especially given that google has location services via data. However, I have significantly improved lock once I moved to Bionic, where stock was not getting a lock for over 5 minutes. In a lot of the ICS discussions, I see that GPS either no longer works, or is unstable. That is why I didn't think ICS would be a good daily ROM, but I could be wrong.
As for 911, I understand what you mean, but it is a critical service that I would like to be able to depend on daily. 911 is for an emergency, and unpredictable. It is in these unpredictable times that I do want to have something reliable to depend on, and not depend on someone else who may or may not be there.
GPS is fixable if you mostly use GPS in the car via bluetooth external GPS receiver. You only need phone radio and bluetooth on - everything else off. This not only saves battery for your phone but improve lock and accuracy on gps. I got around 6-10ft accuracy and locked within 1s (the moment I turn it on).
4.0.4

try chimera v2.2..this is a killer ROM - A blend of AOKP, CM9 and CNA.
here is the link...http://www.team-passion.com/index.php/roms/galaxy-vibrant/19-chimera-v1-1
For froyo:try fisherman
For GB: try cm7
For ICS: try either iczen (look in rootzwiki) or Chimera 2.2
For jellybean: Try hellybean

Im in the same boat as the OP. Am currently on ICS Passion and it is becoming painful to live with it anymore. So much lag. To make a call, just to get to the dialer can take me easily 5 plus seconds. When getting a call, the first 30 seconds are just 'Can you hear me now??'. Im just sick of it at the moment and like the OP am looking for something stable for a daily use. It has to be quick, no lags. Dont care about 911 but would be good if it was working and def want GPS working. I am thinking going Slim ICS but not sure yet. Good advice from earlier posts so I will look into a few of those as well

Tried to flash hellybean today but couldn't get the radio working. Wifi worked fine but that doesn't help me to make calls. Hard to get any feedback when I'm still trying to get my 10 posts. Back to CM7 aka "battery killer" for now...
Chimera_v2.2_Vibrant by far is the best and stable and fast rom i run into.....
