Whatsup on Nook hd+ - Nook HD, HD+ General

Hello all,
Is there any way to go around the Whatsup limitation tbat says that it is can't worked on my tablet?
I've tried a few things but its not working.
Thank you in advance.

Could you be more specific?
About which program you talk? (whatsup gives two results on playstore)
Which things you tried?
The more information the better accuracy of the answers!

Try making a Titanium backup of Whatsapp from your android phone, then send that backup to your tablet and restore it there, both app+data.
An issue you will find is that messages from WA will start coming into the tablet or the phone and you will not be able to have the whole chat in one device. At least that's what I found out and preferred keeping things straight on my phone, because I have it with me all of the time.
Hope that helps.

Solved!
You can read in my personal blog another method. http://pcdemano.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=19761&mode=&order=0&thold=0
It's only need the app SRT:AppGuard to disable telephon android permissions in the WhatsApp instalation.

Replacing android build without loosing data.

Can anybody please help me, i tried searching the forum but i found nothing. I need to know if it is possible to change from darkstones desire build to his froyo build without loosing any of my saved contacts and downloaded apps?
I second that, Would also like to know this! Like a way to backup all our settings and data. and then be able to restore them with ease.
Try Sprite Backup: http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/android

Do you know of any free ones that do the same mate ?
Well contacts are most important to me, you can use gmail to sync contacts, mails sms ect.
I'm wondering if there's anyway to backup Android apps, so if theres a new build we can just transfer these apps to our new built. I'm pretty sure i'll stay @ Froyo from darkstone, but i think it won't be to long until a RC comes out..
Anyone can answer which i can use for backing my apps?? Or perhaps get the .apk's from the market?

[Q] Android Noob in dire need of assistance!

....title says it all. Well, almost.
I have a D2 running on Froyo(2.2) and I tried to flash my ROM to Epic 2.7. Now I am pretty sure I did it wrong because my system version still says Version.2.2.20A955.Verizon.en.US.
I have my phone rooted. I have Titanium Backup, I have D2 Bootstrapper from Kouish(sp?) and ROM manager.
Unfortunately this is where my brain ends on this. I am sure there are step by step tutorials on how to do what I want because I have looked at them all, I just can't understand it :-(
I would like to think I am a bit smart and on the tech side but this end of the spectrum is still a gray area for me. My phone is now lagging, buggy, and just not working the way I thought it would.
Can anyone please offer some assistance so I can grasp my mind around how to be a part of this awesomeness that custom ROMS bring?
EDIT: I should also add this. I really want a ROM that is going to give my battery life longevity and have my phone running as smooth and quickly as possible without the dangers of overclocking. Any suggestions that can come along with instructions on how to load the ROMS is very welcome!
Thanks!
Did you do a full backup through clockwork before installing this?
Also, when you flashed the new rom, did you mount the system before hand?
Clockwork Recovery yes, mount no. I have no clue how to do that.

Angdroid has Sticky Posts with instructions. Start there.
Install Instructions are pretty much the basics for installing any rom so far.
Before you get to Install Instructions, well you're probably good since you're in the right place (XDA), but you always want to make sure you have Root, latest SuperUser binary files (just open SuperUser it will check itself), and ROM Manager. Titanium Backup is also good to have for many things.
After you read the Install Instructions move on to the Hacking Guide thread. Check the last post for the image in case you want to use different .apk files to modify the ROM in your own way.
I use Root Explorer (from Market) and it uses SU permissions. Copy .apk files to \\system\apps with Read/Write permissions. Press & hold > Permissions > Make it look like the picture from his thread.
So to recover quickly and get Epic running on your D2 - go straight to http://www.droidforums.net/forum/angdroid/87766-install-instrucions.html
You may be able to skip the wipe data and factory reset - but I'd say if you're phone is running slow from the partial install you've described - do it all. Plus it's good practice for restoring the phone however you choose since you'll probably be doing it more and more. Welcome to the fun.
SWEET!!!! It worked. But now I don't have my contacts saved anymore. Soooooo.....yeah how do I get that info back? lol
...also it saved my Facebook contacts but if I tried to call them it FC back to the home screen. I am running EpicUnleased2.7

Sign into your google account, it should auto sync your contacts.
whenever installing a theme or mod, you will need to mount the system. This will allow you to have read write access, or in other words, allow you to copy files from your SDCARD to your phone.

You'll need to install Backup Assistant if you want it to work the old way. I do not recommend using it for contact sync as google is sufficient.
It's not opening because it was purposefully disabled.
I recommend going to verizonwireless.com, sign in to your account, go to My Contacts and EXPORT them as an outlook csv file. Save it on your computer. Go to gmail.com on your computer and sign in to your gmail. Go to Contacts. Now look for IMPORT Contacts. Choose the csv file you saved from verizonwireless.com. After that, make sure google contacts are set to sync on your phone. Finally, wait a minute or two while they show up.
After they are back on your phone, you can go to Contacts. Press your Menu Key. Choose MORE. IMPORT/EXPORT. EXPORT will save a copy of your contacts to your memory card (it's a csv file that can be used if you ever lose them).
....GOT IT! Took a minute but it worked!

[Q] Root DHD for Jelly bean with full back up?

First off I need to say thank to all of you for this amazing forum. I did do some research before posting this but it's so much info overload that I decided that I need some help. As you all know DHD doesn't get any upgrade above 2.3.5 and personally I am disappointed that I want to root it.
My problem is I have in it many applications for my job, like stock portfolios and so on and I need to know if I can root the phone but keep the apps and their settings saved. (Ok, ok I admit I don't wanna lose progress on some games also... shoot me ).
So if I root what can I save? What can't I save? And if possible some guides on upgrading it in Jelly bean version. Also will I be able to download from the google store? or like in Jailbreaked iphones I need to download from somewhere else? I don't want someone to compose a guide but if possible step by step links to visit so I can do it myself. Of course as the forum states no responsibility to any of you if something goes wrong.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, its really simple to find information about rooting the DHD. Try this to root your phone http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/. A complete backup without root is not possible. But you can backup your personal user data with various backup tools which you can find in the play store.

If you need to downgrade before root (Some firmwares do), you will loose everything. But after root, your contacts and apps should load again from Google Play (if you checked "backup my phone" in settings). After root, you can use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps with data, so when you change ROMs, you don't have to reinstall everything from Google Play and you won't lose settings/progress. But I think that Titanium wouldn't work on unrooted phones... so most probably you must loose settings/progress once, in order to root.
You might be able to backup your SMSes with SMS Backup and Restore (available on Play)
When you root you download everything from Google Play, just as always. This is NOT similar to "jailbraking", Android is not closed as iOS. Rooting means you have access to SYSTEM files.

Great advice! Btw from what I read it backs up everything except app data. I wonder if there is a folder I can copy paste when I see my device as a hard drive that has the app data inside.
Also with the MyBackup I can restore everything after I root my phone? In the rooted version I mean?

The reason I asked about app data is because I was under the impression that rooting gives you access to the partitions where that app data is stored; without root, you can't access where the app data is stored (and so the copy-paste plan is probably impossible). App data is where app settings are saved; without it, MyBackup restores apps as if they were freshly installed from the Play Store, without any other settings saved.
Apps like MyBackup and Titanium Backup and App Manager generally back things up to your sdcard, which isn't affected by any of AAHK's functions.
Like someone above said, if you need to downgrade back to Froyo, I'm not aware of a method by which you can save all your apps and their data.
By the way, I believe an app called Go Backup (not Go Backup Pro) also lets you back up apps (and only apps, not data) without root.
You can backup programs with My Phone Explorer, but programs are not an issue - they will be downloaded automatically from Play Store...

True, but you can always go to Play on a computer and your purchased apps and "send" them to phone... yes, a bit of work, but better than nothing, at least there's a list of apps and it's easier to install them from computer than from a phone

Kinda discouraged to do the root if I can't save the app data :/ I will look at what I will lose and how easy I can regain them and decide. In the meantime does anyone know why my address book doesn't sync with google? (even though the sync is on)
Try to put as much files as you can in the cloud. Make screenshots of other information that you want to keep. Make a back up of your SD-card.

You shouldn´t use a mirror for the Hack Kit. You don't own it and therefore won't support it. Besides the Kit has been updated lately so, please remove the link and direct people to attn1's site.

Consider purchasing Titanium Backup (or trying out out the trial version). It just started letting you backup app data WITHOUT root using ADB. See: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-adb-backups-without-root-other-improvements/. It will also very much come in handy once you are rooted.

[Q] I lost all my contacts and SMS messages after the 4.4 update

After updating my Nexus 4 to 4.4 KitKat, I have lost all of my SMS messages and contacts. Is there any way for me to get them back? I am doing a full phone image right now, and I hope I can get something out of that. It would really suck to lose all of my texts and contacts.
This is what I did to update:
Reflashed system and boot as I had mocado toolkit installed
Sideloaded the OTA
Sideloaded SuperSU without rebooting first, got stuck in a bootloop
Sideloaded OTA again
Got a inconsistent system UID problem
Used "fix permissions" on twrp recovery
Realized that I had lost all of my texts and contacts
None of my other data is gone, even my internet usage graphs are still there. It seems that only my texts and contacts are missing.
Thanks,
alfonzo1955
Your sms are probably gone, but if you use Google to sync your contacts you can just sync it back. Just check google.com/contacts.

I'm experiencing the same issue.
Yesterday I was notified of the 4.4 OTA update. I updating my JB Nexus 4 (stock) over WiFi and upon rebooting I realized with horror that I was missing all my SMS messages among other software issues.
I'm currently doing some research for sideloading the official 4.4 image over to my phone, as I think my SMS data is still on my phone (storage size didn't really drop after the update). I'm currently stuck on detecting my device via usb running adb devices, but troubleshooting that today. If anyone has a resource/guide for using the SDK for sideloading 4.4 that'd be helpful (Windows 7 PC). I'm searching around for one currently.
If you have any information please let us know. I'd like to restore my phone back to normal with my SMS data in tact and I'm looking to do this without rooting my phone.
If this helps at all, here's a list of the software bugs I'm experience:
No lockscreen
Home button does not work
Top swipe down does not reveal any thing and the settings button does not function
Having issues receiving incoming calls and SMSs
Powering down the phone, the only optiont hat displays is "Power Off", everthing else is missing
-
Thanks
Haven't gotten any further with this.
I just tried sideloading the KRT16S update via adb. This appears to have installed successfully, but there's been no changes to my phone or SMS. In fact, upon successful install and reboot the phone is the same as if nothing was changed (e.g. no tutorial on KitKat). I'm thinking I may need to sideload another factory install.

The SQL datatbase file for SMS is located here /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
while call logs are located in the file /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db
check if you can find any data there.
By the way, Root Browser application can view these files
confused on why you took this route to upgrade and whats wrong with simply downloading a stock rooted rom and calling it a day. Plus there are quite a few sms backup apps that could save all your precious text messages. If you used google to search this stuff then there would of been no need to start this thread.
good luck and I hope all works out well for you and anyone else with the issue. also there is already a thread on how to get back your sms when upgrading to 4.4

Hey guys,
So I have to send my 6P I got from Amazon to try out back, I bought one from Google to replace it with but all settings are exactly to my liking.
Is there anyway I can restore all settings, text threads, apps and layouts for the new phone replacing this one tomorrow? Please let me know as I am coming from ios and an icloud restore would do just that for me.
Thanks in advance!

You can backup/restore your sms with this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Make sure you copy the backup file to your new device to restore.
When you sign in to the new phone you'll be asked if you want to restore a backup from a previous device, the other 6P should be listed there, restore that and your apps will download from the Play Store again, and things like your Wi-Fi passwords should be restored too.
There's no way to backup your settings, your app data, layouts, etc without root though. To get root you'd need to unlock your bootloader, and unlocking your bootloader completely wipes the device, making the whole exercise pointless.
