I'm having some weird issues with my touch screen. I'm using the Touch Keyboard input method so I can use my thumbs for typing instead of using the stylus all the time.
Very frequently, when i use my thumbs to push buttons near the bottom middle or bottom left of the screen, the start menu auto pops up! It is absolutely driving me mad! I tried to recalibrate the screen, doesn't help. I tried to take off the screen protector and try again, no difference.
Has anyone else has this happen?
Hi,
Yes, it's a common Problem with the Trintiy.
But be happy, that you don't have these Problems.
I have heard, that there are Problems, when the device heats up and the casing pushes on the top-left corner. But with my Trin it only occurs, when I'm tiping something and push a little bit to hard in the middle of the screen. But it doesn't disturb me too badly, as long as it won't get worse.

So it's more of a design issue than anything else? Damnit! I was hoping there'd be some sort of fix or that it was just my phone that was defective somehow.
Sigh, I've never noticed this problem until I started using the soft part of my fingers to type.
Anyways, thanks for your reply.
I just read yet another review of the Epic where one of the reasons they talked sh!t about the EPIC was because of the bottom buttons don't stay lit the entire time the screen is on. This is a SUPER easy fix.... should anyone want to change this, it will take 10 seconds tops:
Goto settings > sound&display > keyboard timeout and change it to "Same as Screen timeout"
BAM! Problem solved. I almost wish Samsung had done this from the factory as the default. Oh well.

Great! Glad someone could use the info...
Thanks so much, i would have never guessed that as setting for the hardware keyboard would effect the capacitive buttons!
Thanks
Thanks, added to my blog and tips for Epic page I'm just starting on..

Beautifully simple,
Steve
It's seriously stupid that they didn't put a non-lighting image on the front of these. They could have had the stenciled outline of the buttons there so they were visible even when not lit up.
Woot. Nice find spiicy. That just made the Epic a little more Epic
Oooo much appreciated

Yeah thanks for sure! I also had no idea that these capactive touch buttons would be tied to the keyboard. I had my keyboard timeout set to like 3 seconds, because once I start typing I dont need to see anymore usually. That explains why those buttons wouldnt stay lit for long enough!
Cheers!
glad i found this thread! thanks again.
OMG I can't believe people didn't know this by now...
Forgive My Brevity. To Be Or Not To Be...
yeah i did this the first day i got my epic since i heard so many complaints about it before hand, lls, its funny how people can cry about it and not even look through the settings
Ok, just pointing out this isn't strictly true. Doing as the OP suggests keeps the buttons lit as long as a touch action keeps the screen alive, the button lights will still time-out before the screen for any other actions that keep the screen on. Like e-book readers, video player, games, extended typing in any app, timers, alarm clocks, etc (in cases where touching the screen isn't required).
What's odd is that the buttons aren't tied to either the screen or the keyboard. Since I'm used to where they are now I'd rather just have an option to keep those lights always off.
Battery Usage
Does anyone know how much battery usage the keyboard light consumes?
Someone should make a screen protector with the icons screened onto it.

+1 internets for you. Quick, patent it too.
I totally agree on that screen protector idea, even though the second before you even posted some asian probably stole it and already has a patent for it somehow.
All in all though, IDK How much of a battery impact the hardware keyboard would use being on all the time, but to be honest, now that I've had the phone for a week+, I don't really need to know where they are, I already have it memorized. So I just said the hell with it and put my keyboard backlight back to 3 seconds again.
I hope i"m describing this right, but basically I wanted to see if this is normal (i've never owned a tablet before) that when I try and hold the Nexus 7 when reading e-books (holding it like I would my kindle) my thumb is outside of the screen resting on the black border, but the screen picks up my touch and thinks i'm interacting?
Is there normally a little bleed over for the digitizer outside of the screen? Or should I consider this an issue?
This isn't a product killer, but super annoying when trying to use it to read ebooks.
Thanks!!!

If you have soft thumbs, it could be your skin bending/flowing causing it to touch the screen when it doesn't appear to be. This happens to me a lot
Get a case.
Has anyone noticed that their screen is picking up "clicks" without actually touching the screen?
on occassion my screen will detect a button click even if i haven't actually touched the screen. It's starting to get annoying, but I don't know if that's just the way the phone is, or if i'm too used to a capacitive screen rather than a heat sensitive one.
i had this happen a few times. not enough to bother me that much. it happens sometimes when my finger is hovering really close to the screen, like i'm getting ready to press on it but not yet because i'm still reading whatever it is on the screen, and then it ends up clicking it anyway. i think its happened a total of 3 times for me. 2 other times though, i've had the screen do double taps when i was just swiping around. trying to scroll up and down on a webpage and it registered as zooming in. i did do some zooming in and out a few seconds prior so i think for some reason it was "stuck" on double tap mode or something. had to switch the screen off and on to fix it.

yea it does the same thing for me as well. I sometimes go to press a letter and the letter gets pressed twice. it's really annoying. i'm hoping that if i buy a screen protector it will get better but i'm betting that I'm gonna have to battle with LG's terrible customer service.
Never happened to me. The screen (as with every other smartphone I have had) doesn't react unless I'm actually clicking. Even if I touch the screen with the SLIGHTEST touch I can do, it doesn't react. Which is good, no problem reacting when I actually click.
I guess it might have something to do with my fingers being hard as metal due to guitar playing or something.
On mine it seems to get worse as the screen gets oily. If it starts to wig out, I wipe down the screen and that usually solves the problem for a couple days.
When my screen gets overly sensitive i turn the screen on and off again. Usually fixes it.

Maybe i'm just crazy, but when i spend this much on a phone I shouldn't have to turn the screen on and off constantly to get it to work.
Hopefully LG realizes this is a problem and rushes out an update...

it happened to me... not only that the screen freezzes from the ghost clicks... the clicks are on middle of the screen staying... for example by playing Plants vs Zombies 2... the screen doesn't react at all.
I think that has something to do with the "smart-stay" or with the screen time-limit.
... plus of that... the phone gets really hot at that time.
any solutions?... or back to guarantee?
Greets.
Never happened to me, however I know exactly what you're talking about from using cheap Chinese tablets. Therefore I suggest getting it fixed or exchanged.

Same here, works this way, slightest touch wont react, actual press would.

i make my phone factory restore but the same problem appear..
I have looked very closely into this issue and it seems that the phone registers a touch when my finger is very close to the screen. It doesn't seem like an issue, but it is. Often when I'm scrolling through youtube videos, it plays a video. This is because right before I touch the screen and want to drag it, it actually selects one of the videos first. This is really annoying. It even happens when typing. I get the same letter twice because it first detects the touch when my finger is near, and then I press it, which gives 2 touches. Anyone else with this problem? Is there a way to turn this ''feature'' off?
Can't say I've seen this happening and even when slowly getting closer, I only type a letter with Swiftkey when I actually hit the glass. Maybe this thread can help? forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/how-to-increase-touch-sensitivity-t3443052

I tried this but this is not the problem as I'm not even touching the glass yet the phone registers it (I have turned on "Show touch movement" in dev options). I looked very closely with my eye to really assure I'm not actually touching it. It happens when my finger is really close to the glass. Really strange. Am I the only one having this happen?

You are a hero. This was the problem. I thought having it constantly on wouldn't be a big deal and it would actually be useful if I happen to wear gloves. Thank you very much for solving this issue.
