So, for about a week, I had CM 7.2 on my u8800 and I decided that I wanted to put dzo's ICS on my phone again and it wouldn't boot so I restored to CM7. I today decided to restore my phone to stock 2.2.1 (2.3.5 doesn't work on mine) and then I decided to restore the partition to stock. and then 2.2.1 wouldn't boot. I've tried restoring many stock roms on my phone but it will say "update failed" just before it finishes installing. What's wrong with my phone and how could I fix it?
Dzo aurora needs offical GB.
Try updating without your battery and your phone in the charger.
Please tell if it works

Try this for GB: http://www.mediafire.com/?deqae9y21rew9ch
Or Froyo: http://www.mediafire.com/?anwnhlx5mytr73j
I'll try that GB
Tried that GB, gets to just about the end of the "Installing" part and says update failed. What do I do now?

With me it installs but doesn't boot i need to format data and then it boots.
Maybe try this
Boot the phone in Bootloader (pink screen) by holding Vol+, Vol- and Power, format the partition with FAT32, create a folder called "image" and copy the following files on there.
EMMCBOOT - http://www.mediafire.com/?lb6ifvgk72iru4a need to extract and copy that MBN file in the image folder
AMSS.MBN - http://www.mediafire.com/?d6r45q6p5gew59v need to extract and copy that MBN file in the image folder
Recovery.img - http://www.mediafire.com/?57njygc8oianjac
Boot.img - http://www.mediafire.com/?6d5i0714a7o9z97
My computer doesn't pick up the pink screen
Some updates doesn't allow it just try the froyo link from above and then try to go to the pink screen

I did the thing with the pink screen on 2.2.1 and put the image folder and the files in the folder and then proceeded to install GB and it still said update failed, what do I do now?
Ok this is weird. I don't know a solution for that.
I'm sorry everything what I did I told to you

Yes, but then you won't have the stock recovery. It also won't be 'stock' because it has probably been rooted and apps removed etc.

It's unrooted if you restore a backup before you rooted your device.
Here's the thing. I want to go back to the stock ROM but I didn't do a nandroid backup. Stupid of me, I know. Anyway, I got from a friend the stock recovery.img(3.0.2.8) and also the stock ROM (U8800V100R001C00B135SP02(WIND-HELLAS)). It is a greek ROM. I applied the recovery.img and now I'm downgraded to 3.0.2.8 from 4.0.0.5. Then, I booted in clockworkmod and tried to apply the stock ROM's .zip . However, I get "Installation aborted" message all the time. I cannot understand where I'm wrong. Maybe someone that did return to stock ROM can help me out here.
edit: Sanpsa, you said that someone should follow the instructions of the extracted files. You mean "UPDATE.APP" and "UPDATE_CUST.APP" files? In my stock ROM with these files you can upgrade the ROM. Is it necessary to upgrade the ROM and then apply the .zip? I don't get it...

If you want the stock Rom back, follow these exact steps:
1 - Go into the Bootloader (pink screen), put the recovery 4.0.0.5 back.
2 - Take out the battery to exit Bootloader (pink screen)
3 - Press Vol+ and Power until you boot into Recovery.
4 - In Recovery go to Mounts and Storage, connect the USB cable and select the last option Mount External Storage (SD Card)
5 - Use the computer to explore the SD card now, Create a folder called "dload" and put both files "update.app" and "update_cust.app" inside the folder.
6 - Disconnect the cable and select the option Power off.
7 - Once the phone is switched off, press VOL+, VOL- and POWER together for 5 seconds.
8 - This should start the automatic installation and you will have your stock Rom back in 5 minutes.

Strange, as all stock Roms come as zip archive with these 2 files inside. Are you sure that's a stock Rom?
Did you actually unzip the U8800V100R001C00B135SP02(WIND-HELLAS).zip ?
To give you an idea...
I did these exact steps
1. Installed recovery 4.0.0.5
2. Copy/paste the images ".android_secure", "cache", "cust", "data", "system" and "nandroid.md5" from (U8800V100R001C00B135SP02(WIND-HELLAS)) ROM to mnt\sdcard\
3. Booted in recovery
4. "Backup and restore"-->"restore"
So, into "restore" there is only one backup file from a previous ROM, which btw I don't know how to get rid of it because I don't need it anymore. I can't find any "delete" selection or something.
edit: Yes, I did unzip it. This stock ROM was uploaded by a fellow Greek to provide assistance in such situations. Nobody else complained about his upload for not working.
edit2: I found how to delete backups!
SOLVED!!!
I just pasted the ".android_secure", "cache", "cust", "data", "system" and "nandroid.md5" files into /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/ and did a restore one by one. AT LAST!!!

OK. Got it now!
If u restore a backup from recovery to stock rom, then u still have the custom recovery. I you worry about warranties, then you should also go back to stock recovery. Easiest way to do this is to flash any official rom, these restore the stock recovery also.
Like said, these .zips with the two .app files cant be flashed from any recovery.
I take no responsibility for any harm that comes to your phone as a result of applying this mod.
unofficial Clockwork Mod Recovery 5.0.2.7 for u8800pro and u8800 [upgrade to offical 2.3 GB]
Installation Instructions (upgrading - root explorer method):
Using any file explorer which is able to remount as writeable (such as root explorer), browse to the /cust_backup directory and remount it as writeable
Navigate to the image directory and backup up the current recovery by renaming it to something like recovery.bak, or _recovery.img
Rename the downloaded recovery to recovery.img and copy to the image directory.
Installation Instructions (new install):
Unplug any usb connection and turn the phone completely off
Whilst holding both the volume + and volume - keys hold the power button to turn the device on. Let go when you see a pink/purple screen.
Attach the usb cable to your computer and wait until a few usb mass storage devices are detected and mounted. Look for one that has just one directory called 'image' in it. Navigate into this directory and you'll see recovery.img etc.
(optional) Rename recovery.img to recovery_backup.img
copy the new recovery.img to image, unmount the mass storage device (safely remove in windows) and then pull the battery out to turn the phone off.
Hold volume + and power to boot to recovery.
Install any custom rom
change:
mod the kernel,Ums is worked now
use zte u880‘s charge png
can install zip from emmc and use emmc backup&restore
add ext4 fs support
about SDcard
if you can't mount SDcard in recovery,do this:
enter "advanced"--"Reboot Recovery"
then you could use the SDcard

Tested on u8800 and works very good. SD card sometimes can't mout properly, but i guess it's not an issue from CMW.

Hmm, I tried to restore my backup from yesterday done with stockwells 5.0.2.6 recovery and my phone got ****ed up. I know I shouldn't have done this but I just had to try. xD Now I can't get past the Huawei logo, when I push the power the phone starts but just turns off after couple of seconds. I can get to bootloader (pink screen) but not to recovery. I hope no one else has tried this and I hope I get my phone working again.
Would anyone have any advice how to get my phone back up and running? Or should I just go bring it to warranty support?
have you tried to replace the recovery.img from this topic again? that happened to me too when I tried to go back with CWM v4 but then I replaced with this

Which CWM are you using (5.2.6 or 5.5.0.4??). Maybe the latter one might help?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377390
So I did flashed the ROM, and I thought everything went fine and was happy, until I finally opened my phone for first time after the flash and the problems started. My sim wouldnt be recognized I had no service available, and also the battery would not be recognised, charging or not, the battery indicator was always showing I was at 0%...
and last but not least it was force closing every minute!
I flashed from Oxygen Custom 2.3 ROM, and did all the wiping stuff on the CWM(which I also updated to a valid for ICS Aurora version)
Now I got back to the latest Oxygen 2.3 and everything is fine, but I would really like to be able and get the ICS ROM, so any help is deeply appreciated!

Yeah, I thought so! But I cant make it work, I cant flash it, I mean, I had my microSD with the required free space made the folders and pasted the STEP 1 thing in there, tryed to hold down the power button + volume up+ volume down and everything I got was, the pink screen that wouldnt leave for 20 mins(the max I left it)
So yeah!
Do you mean you transferred the 'Step 1' folder to the sd? You need to open the step 1 folder and put just the 'dload' folder across to the sd. If that doesn't work try putting the dload folder in the internal sd.
When you installed aurora did you to wipe chache, system, data and delvik cache?

to make things clear here is my history:

You cannot flash stock rom with cwm. You need to put dload folder in root of sdcard and when phone is powered off start it by holding vol +/- and power button. This is all in instructions coming with stock rom.
Your problem with sim card in aurora was probably because you need official 2.3.5, not 2.2.1. There is a different kernel. You, should update to 2.3.5, root, install cwm and then flash aurora again in cwm.

Try to update to 2.3.5, by putting the dload into your SD power up your phone while holding both volume (+)(-) buttons!

But I think there might be a problem!
You need to repartition your SD to as it was with official ROM, and then flash 2.3.5!

Thank you guys, I solved my problem by wiping and flashing dload twice.
I,m so happy now, I thought my phone died
I wanna upgrade to official gingerbread so i can flach ICS but every time i try it and with any official GB it gives me an update failed. Is there any other way to get ICS to work???maybe flashing .35 kernel and then ICS on the same time???
As far as I know, there's no other way than through the stock ROM. Please try with a freshly formatted SD card that you know works otherwise, and make sure the downloaded/extracted file itself itsn't corrupt.
Did you change any of the partitions sizes?
If so reverting to the original may fix your problem upgrading.
I have run into the same problem and managed to brick my phone.
Been spending hours trying to fix it now. Unfortunately I get the same error with 2.2.
Try this: Put the battery out and connect it to USB charger. I had this problem also.
no luck

You can't flash stock ROMs through CWM. You have to put the "dload" folder from the update in the root of your memory card, then hold volume +, volume -, and the power button down together with the phone turned off. This will start the "official" update process. To save yourself the trouble of rooting your phone after upgrading to stock, flash the B518 update. You'll have to reflash a newer CWM after this; either 5.0.2.7 or 5.5.2.4.

Correct, Sir...and if I may add something.
Try updating the ROM from the internal SD card (remove the external card).....That is if the update still fails with the other instructions given before...
There is always the chance to have a corrupted update.app.
Try to download again the file and use a fresh FAT32 formatted sd card.
Hope that helps
I got it to work.. sorta.
Reformat internal SD card to vanilla partitions -> install 2.2 -> 2.35 -> MIUI v4 elite SX.
2.35 failed to boot so I had to install a custom ROM, which did boot. Now it's running fine with latest MIUI rom.
