I have a rooted razr 2.3.6 that I am trying to unroot so I can do the most recent update. I had a friend who helped me with all this stuff, but sadly he passed recently. I know little to nothing about this stuff, and would sure appreciate someone to hold my hand through this. I know I have superuser, and when I try to uninstall with my file manager it won't let me. I know everyone on here seems to use SU, but I'm obviously held up by superuser. Can someone please help this stumbling fool?!!

I've read over the forums quite a few times and am stumped. For some reason i cannot get rooted again after SBF flashing to 2.1. I've used the one click root program and while it says the root was successful, i go into adfree, titanium backup, and wifi tether and all tell me that i am not rooted. Super permissions doesn't seem to work either.
I've flashed my phone six times and have had the same results, so i was wondering if anyone else had this problem or could help me out. I just want to root and get back to 2.2 again, but i don't see why I'm having such difficulties when I've had success before in the past. I'm trying to give all the information i can, but there isn't really much to it. I followed all the steps in the HOW TO downgrade 2.2 to 2.1 link in this very forum.
If anyone can help me or tell me whats going on, I'd be in their debt forever.

Six times? Did you try the 7th????
http://alldroid.org/Default.aspx?tabid=40&g=posts&m=5164#5164
But anyways...did you try to root in manually instead of doing it with one click?
Ok the seventh time was in fact the charm. I just upgraded to 2.2 without root and then SBF flashed to 2.1 again and now when i root, it actually takes and adfree tells me im rooted and super permissions kicks in. I could just not figure out what was going on because it didn't make any sense. It still doesn't, but hey problem solved so i'm not gonna speculate. Anyways thanks for the time.
well after weeks of reading i finally got around to rooting my tablet. i noticed that once the vzw update z4root would just hang and would not go past getting root access. so i read about superoneclick 1.7, i was skeptic but i gave it a shot. now the problem with superoneclick is that once i rooted and i try checking if i was fully rooted with root check from the market. well believe it or not i was not fully rooted according to root check. i did not know how to fix it but i knew i needed bootstrap, i was holding back because of all the bad reviews but i gave that a shot and sure enough it worked i had to pay for the app but that was not a problem. after that i did root check and was fully rooted. so my advice for those who root the vzw galaxy tab is to watch how you root your phone as for verizon tab bootstrap might not work. im still trying to figure this out as to why some users have issues and some dont. i just want to thank all who help and all who didnt, word of advice if your going to root your vzw tab to make sure you read ALOT before you do so, if not your going to end like many others with just a brick...once again thanks for all the help...
hi. i updated my phone to 2.3.4 (sys 4.5.91 us) and i cannot get my root back. im pretty new to root but i do not want anything but root. not unlock, not new rom, not anything except root.
i had the latest version of Android and used Gingerbreak and i was extremely happy as it was so easy for me to do. i had root and that's all i wanted. but now... i updated to 2.3.4 and i did not unroot before this (maybe this is my problem) but my phone is fine, everything runs great. but i cannot root it. i used this walk-through http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/motorola-atrix-hacks/4414-how-root-motorola-atrix-all-versions-including-stock-locked-2-3-4-a.html and finished it all. everything went through and i still don't have root.
i have done it 3 times now and successfully competed the steps. i still have no root. can someone direct me or walk me through another way of rooting or by chance giving me advice on what to do so i can get root? im not a scientist and i know it doesn't take one...but all i know is i just cant get my phone rooted and want it rooted badly.
someone please help me. i searched all over the forums and keep finding the steps i followed and then also found unlock steps(something i do not want to do)
all i want is root. please keep that in mind.

I used this method on my OTA gingerbread.
At first, it gave me errors and pretty much wouldn't work past command line, but in reality, Superuser was installed and I was able to launch it.
Do you have Superuser in your app drawer?
yes i do have super user. and i am able to launch it. but it does not unlock anything.
i got no errors. i did everything correctly and still i dont have root access. maybe im missing something?? i try to run Titanium backup and it said no root access. said the same thing with Root explorer.
superuser runs... but it doesnt have anything unlocked. i try to update superuser and it wont let me.

hmm, you can try going to manage apps and clearing superuser's data, and then maybe attempt the process again.
I had to clear data to get superuser to do anything at all when I rooted.
i read that before i attempted it the third time. i cleared data then completed the steps and still... my superuser runs but apparently i do not have root access.
superuser does not ask if i want to allow for root access for any programs like TB or Root Explorer as it should.

and i meant that i had read about that before attempting the entire process for the third time. i read on another post that someone had it installed already and had to clear the data so... i did that before my third attempt.
still no root!

Check this thread.

Hey. I recently purchased a Kindle Fire and rooted it without a problem. I had problems installing the Android Market as every time I open it and I try to sign up , it force closes.
This morning I woke up to find that superuser had disappeared. I wasn't sure if this meant that it was just superuser gone , or if my kindle been unrooted.
I tried to reroot using SuperOneClick it but every time I try , it gets stuck on step 7 . I have a feeling that it was somehow unrooted as when I try to reroot it , it doesn't give me the 'already rooted' prompt.
So... the questions. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way I can get superuser back? Is there any way (without terminal , or rootchecker) to see if my kindle is rooted?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
I think there are too many other threads about this already. try using search our just look at the top 10 or so threads.
The SuperOneClick is not the current rooting method.
Ah , sorry about that. I'll search harder in the future.
I wonder if it's possible for superoneclick to amend this with an update.
Really... you should do some reading before trying something like that. It will keep you out of the I don't know what I'm doing camp...
A vast majority of the people asking for help, didn't bother reading through the whole process, or bothering to see what other users had problems with in the very threads that talked about how to do it. Just doing a little reading alone would solve most of their problems as they keep asking the same thing over and over and over...
did u have the 6.2 or 6.1 update on there and when u woke up it was the 6.2.1 update on there? that could bethe prob as 6.2.1 update breaks root and super one click doesnt work anymore
Hey everybody, if you've already opened up this thread, you already have my gratitude for seeing what my problem is.
If you haven't already caught on, I want to unroot my Samsung Galaxy S4. I have no idea why I decided to root it in the first place (maybe because that's what everybody else was doing? maybe because I'm just stupid? who knows), but now I really need to unroot it because I need the latest firmware.
The thing is, I've done a lot of stupid stuff to try and unroot it. I know, I should have looked for help instead of going out and doing stupid stuff on my own, but.. well, I don't really have an excuse - I'm just an idiot. My phone is still fully functional, but the device status is custom. But let me just tell you what happened.
1. I decided that I didn't want this phone to be rooted anymore. I opened up SuperSU and investigated the settings, and found an option to uninstall the phone. I decided to just go with it, and I uninstalled it. Everything went smoothly, nothing big happened, and before I knew it, SuperSU wasn't there anymore and everything seemed okay.
2. But it wasn't. I checked my device status, but it was custom. I was so confused. Wasn't it meant to be back to normal now? SuperSU wasn't there anymore, but it was still.. rooted? I turned on my S4 on Download mode. It said that it was still custom (or something similar to that, I don't remember the specific word). By now, I was confused and scared - what have I done?!
3. I searched around the internet for tutorials, and one in particular told me to download TriangleAway. Sweet, an app that unrooted and all I had to do was sit back and relax and let it do it's job! So I downloaded it and... it said that I didn't have SuperUser permissions or that I was unrooted. WHAT. I re-downloaded SuperSU and it said "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!" JESUS CHRIST, tell me something I don't know, SuperSU! You're useless to me!! How could something be rooted yet unrooted at the same time? Life is so hard.
So now I'm sitting here, typing on my laptop, wondering what I could do to fix everything that transpired today. I searched up tutorials, but none of them had the same specifics on their phone as mine was. You see, my phone's baseband version is different from most. I have no idea why, but I'll list everything specific out here:
Model number: GT-I9505
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I9505XXUBMG4 (and for some reason, there is barely any help regarding this baseband, is it really rare to have this or something? or is is just the same as the I9505XXUBMGA? I don't know, so I don't want to take the risk)
If you've read and got up to here, you are already in my gratitude. If you help me, you have my thanks, and even if you don't, you still have my thanks for reading thus far.
If you could please help me, it would make this world just a little bit better! Thank you in advance. If you need any more information, please just tell me and I'll do the best I can to provide you with it.

Once you flash root the custom word wont get away unless you use triangle away to get rid of it that the use of triangle away and if you want stock :
Download latest firmware for your model and flash it through Odin done.
Why do you take the hard route?
You know you can just flash the stock rom you want with Odin? No need to unroot etc.
