Okay i see the 4.2.2 ota is rolling out but i was wondering could i leave the bootloader unlocked and still be able to get ota on stock?

locked/unlocked bootloader won't matter. just keep it unlocked and you're ok (assuming you didn't change any system files)

It's rolling out for other devices. Has there been a confirmation of anyone with a Nexus 4 receiving it?

Similar situation. So I manually updated. I downloaded the MF3 package from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358763 and use the stock recovery to update and now it works.

Because your phone is being used on T-Mobile, your update will come from T-Mobile. Pretty sure that is what the axman was saying. I had a tmo phone on att at one point and got my updates from att....
I'm not sure how that works for our device, so you may not get an update at all from Tmo. But yes in general your update would come from tmo.

I haven't gotten the update either. I'm on an ATT i337 running Tmo SIM. Kies still says I'm current, and I've tried changing my phone's date to August 1st and still no update. If I'm on an ATT phone but using Tmo, will the OTA update work from Settings?
I don't want to root my phone until I get this update.

the latest update blocks root. if you want to update to a just recently rooted MF3 version, check out this link.

I appreciate the reference to the other thread, but I really don't want to spend the time jumping through those hoops. I'm hoping for an easy firmware update now, then a root method sometime down the line.

then keep an eye out on http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares for an MF3 tar release. once it drops you can flash via odin without root access
I'm confused. Will I receive the update through Settings->About Device->Software Update, or will I have to update it through Kies?
EDIT: Just noticed that I can't check for an update for another 1269 hours!!!

correct me if i'm wrong here.. i thought i read from that it's best not to do OTA updates if your usage preferences rely on root and/or custom roms and kernels.. i only use odin because from what i understand, that is usually the safest way to fully wipe and restore/upgrade/downgrade mobile devices running android. am i wrong? curious.
This may be a dumb question, but on my nexus 10 I have an unlocked bootloader but not rooted. Will the unlocked bootloader keep me from receiving ota updates?
Asking because as all of us, I am waiting for 4.3 but if my unlocked bl is preventing it, I would like to relock to get it or flash the image from a download.
Let me know if the unlocked bl is preventing otas.
Thanks.

Hi everyone. My mom's s4 won't update. I think it's because we're outside of the US. The phone it's unlocked. Do I need to update to every firmware until I reach the desired version? Or I can just put the 4.4.2 OTA on the sdcard and update?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
You can just Odin to the latest version. I doubt your mom does rooting or custom roms but that will be severely limited after the update.

There's people who would die to have a phone on mdl. But I'm sure it's not your mom. If you want the latest firmware see the second post of the attached and flash it with Odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50667360

Anyone know if there's any risk taking the soak with unlocked BL's?
Shouldn't be but if it did lock the boot loader you should be able to unlock using the same code. I don't think they would bother worrying about a few unlocked phones.

There will be no problem taking the soak with an unlocked bootloader. I was unlocked prior to taking last soak a couple months ago.
I can neither confirm nor deny that I got an email for a soak test

House of moto is what I would use if you want to keep your data.
Got the email but I'm going to ignore it and see how things go for other users, dont want to be the guinea pig to find out whether it re-enables write protection and breaks root.. Using my N4 right now anyway

Is it 4.4.4 or in the emal there are not any information about android version of SOAK? Maybe a new SOAK have android version 4.4.0 as a previous version 19.6.3.

Not going to work, you're stuck with a locked bootloader
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
Several of the bootloader updates blow qfuses (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44777826&highlight=qfuse#post44777826), which is why you can't go back to I337ucuamdl. If you could just flash back to a previous bootloader to get around the locked bootloader, it would not be a good solution on the part of Samsung (though I don't like locked bootloaders), and safestrap probably wouldn't exist in its current form.
There would be a lot less complaints about locked bootloaders, though.
