Hi,
I'm switching from Note 1 to Nexus 4 which should arrive this week. I wonder what the battery performance is like for an average user, does it last alteast a day (10hrs plus) with moderate usage?
Also, I heard glass back issues, does it really needs to be cared for a lot?
I just switched from the note 1 also to the nexus 4. Have had this phone for almost 2 weeks now. Battery life is a lot better than the note. I'm almost always on WiFi. I'm getting about 13+ hours out of the battery. I flashed the Franco kernel and noticed a slight improvement also. Deff a lot better battery life than the note

Battery life is awesome.
I get about five hours screen on time

Right now I'm using the CM nightlities and franco r71 kernel and my battery is pretty good. It easily lasts a day, right now it has about 50% battery with about 10 hours on and 1hr 40min screen time on. I've uploaded a picture of my battery with one of the older nightlies. But some people have really good battery life and others aren't as good, it just depends if you get a lucky phone.
Battery live has been great for me. Easily over 3:30 on-screen time, sometimes 4:00, and less often I hit 4:30. At the end of the day and I usually still have some juice left. I use FrankenKernel and Trinity Four.

Battery life is subjective.

I can get at least four hours screen on time, sometimes over five, depending on other factors such as signal strength and whether I'm on WiFi or mobile networks.
Just been playing with it for the last hour and this is what it's looking like ... 84‰ battery remaining with one hour eleven minutes of screen time. Connection via mobile networks is usually more taxing though.

Stock I could go ~12hrs with moderate use and ~18hrs with light use.
With franco kernel r72, I get 2days with light usage (1.5hrs screen on, 1.5hrs call time, auto brightness, wifi on, bt on, gps on, location services on, push for gmail/plume) and a day with moderate use (same as previous with 3-4hrs of pandora streaming and 1hr of video.)
I can reach 2 hours of screen time when entirely on HSDPA or nearly 4 hours entirely on Wifi with stock kernel until the battery hits 25% mark.
With franco or harsh kernel I can reach 2 hours 30 minutes on HSDPA and 4 hours on Wifi until the battery hits 25% mark.
I send a lot of Whatsapp messages and browsing, not much phone call though. I don't measure battery life by phone up time because most of the time it's screen on time that matters.
Battery life seems great for me

Hey guys,
I'm really, really impressed with the battery my S3 kicks out, check out my results and feel free to comment. My brightness is on Auto, Wi-Fi has been on all day but for 9 hours was on Mobile Data, and Bluetooth off and NFC Enabled.
Facebook & Twitter update every hour, so does Flipboard

I roughly get 5 hours of normal usage.
That sounds a bit bad to be honest, I've been on my phone quite a bit today.

I use my phone an awful lot, I'm on it checking Facebook, texting, making calls, tethering etc. It's been off charge 1 hour now and I've been browsing for the past hour (without wifi) and now on 87% which to me doesn't look good.

Mine hardly lasts 6 hours.
IF YOU LIKE MY WORK, THANK ME BY THE BUTTON BELOW
17 hours doesnt seem that good tbh, specially as the screen has only been on for 3 of those hours.
Here's my battery life with around 3 hours of screen time. This also includes streaming Google Music over 3G for an hour.
As it stands right now with a lot of stuff syncing, my battery has been lastingover a full day with more than 3 hours of screen time.
If I use my phone heavily, I can still pull off a full days (work day) worthof use with a screen time well over 4 and just short of 5 hours some days.
This phone is definitely a win in the battery category.
I'm quite happy with my battery time... Tell me what you think

Really good battery life compared to my s2 with the samsung extended battery.
I wonder though if samsung will be releasing an extended battery for the s3?
you should classified as lucky man
mine is battery eater
i lowered the brightness , shutting down bluetooth and data ...etc
and still eats my battery
lets face it guys
i did'nt buy a high level smartphone like this one to disable most of its magic wonder features and deal it as it was nokia 3210
disappointed
S3 battery life is certainly better than xperia s that i had before

What on earth are you guys doing to your phone? I'm disappointed if my screen on time doesn't reach 4 hours. That's with Bluetooth streaming and auto brightness on and about an hour of calls on average and a bit of heavy gaming.
I just flashed the latest CM9 nightly this morning, my phone was around 85% as you can see in the pictures below.
And I still have around 30% left with 3 hours screen on time.

On CM9 experimental from a few days ago, I got about 6 hours of screen time over ~ 20 hours plus streaming Spotify for about two hours. No screen shots because it is pretty normal for me :/ on wifi.

I think maybe theres a summet up with some because i can get over a day with moderate usage where as my dad only uses now n again mainly for calls n text n can barely reach the end of the day.

That is brilliant! I get around 30 hours with almost 4 hours of screen time ...but this is sick .

You guys get way lower than me.
Wfi on all time
40% Brightness
Sync on every hour (Facebook, Twitter, Email)
Screen on time: 5 hours 12minutes
Battery left: 28%
First touch screen phone I have ever owned that occasioally lasts as long as my Blackberry Bold 9700. Super impressive in my opinion.
Hi guys, I didn't see a thread about battery life, so I thought I'd start one to see how other people's battery life was.
I have an unrooted nexus 7 and after using it a few weeks I finally decided to see how long the battery would last before dying. I wasn't very impressed.
My battery lasted 3 days and 12 hours with 5 hours of screen on time. I didn't use it heavily or anything. Light browsing, a little bit of reading, almost no videos, no music, screen brightness at "low" setting and I even have the wifi turned off when the device is asleep! That seems pretty underwhelming to me. I am syncing 3 gmail accounts though, so maybe that is it. I'm just suprised by the 5 hours of screen time. I thought this thing was supposed to do 9 or 10 hours (that's what some of the reviews like Engadget said). No?
What is your battery life like? Is this normal?
So you got over 3 days of battery life? That seems pretty good... im a little confused when you say 9 to10 hours at the end of your post though.
.:: Nexus 7 :: ParanoidAndroid :: JB ::.
I am able to only get 6 hours off my Nexus 7. I play 1 hour of games and the rest is browsing. Sometimes I watch videos, but even without, I can't seem to get more than 6 hours on low brightness.
To people are are getting 8-10 hours, did you let your battery drop to nearly dead? I have never let mine drop below 25% except for one time. Some people reported their N7 died at 20% so I let mine reach that percentage.

Lol 3.5 days with 5 hours of battery life is pretty good. The 8-9 hour estimate doesn't account for 3.5 days worth of idle drain. You can get 10 hours if you use it for 10 straight.

+1, I too was disappointed to see that I was getting "only" 5-6 hours screen time with my 2-3 days usage.
So I dug a little deeper and found that all the 9-10 hour battery life reports was the device being used constantly over around a day.
I guess the idle time and sleep walking the device does kind of effects the battery life. Same with my phone, the beast Incredible S, in 1 day I can get 4-4.5 hours screen time, but if I stretch it over 2 days it only gives me 3 1/2
So I agree about the idle thing
Luminosité at 10%...
it's a 7" anyway(smaller battery to fit in)... can't ask for more.
Could you guys tell me if various ROMs have different battery life? Just to know if it's worth trying other ROMs or whether it would be a waste of time. (I already use a good kernel for battery life, i.e. M-Kernel.)

I have never had better battery life than I do now on stock rooted 4.2.2
I'm at 41 hours now with 2 1/4 hours screen time and battery is at 66 percent.
I know that's not a lot of screen time so far....but excellent sleeping! Very happy with stock!

I'm currently using PA 3.1 and M-kernel a-37. I usually get between 35-40 hours (3-4 hours on screen time) with moderate usage (browsing, light gaming, occasional YouTube viewing) before needing to charge.
Currently as I'm typing this, my N7 is on 15%, been unplugged for 40 hours with on screen time of 3h12m.
I've managed to squeeze a week out of Paranoid Android 3.0 running Faux Kernel under clocked to around 800Ghz.
Just experiment like the rest of us.
Probably very little battery savings are attributable to the ROM, unless they've got apps pre-installed that hold lots of wakelock time and prevent the device from sleeping.
I throw mine on the charger as soon as I stop using it, so I don't really care what the battery life is. If I've used up 6 hours of screen time per day, that indicates a problem with the operator, not the device
Folks that have tilapia (3G/4G) N7s or live in a WiFi-everywhere (campus?) environment are probably more mobile with their devices than I, so no doubt their use-case scenario - and thus battery use concerns - are different. But I'm skeptical that ROM choice (independent of kernel choice) has much to do with it, unless a pre-installed app is pathological.
I agree with the above mostly, although underclocking does help a bit. I have 5hours of screen on time and 15 of sleep on 16% battery right now.
I'm moderately using the nexus and only getting 5ish hours of screen time with brightness halfway. And people been saying that they get 7+ hours.
If you happen to be one of those people, did you calibrated yours? And how do you do it? I heard you have to drain the battery and then charge it back up. Does it work? Or is it just a myth?
They are many variables involved here beyond screen brightness. You are not going to hard core game for 7 hours out do anything that has CPU/GPU running high.
I keep my brightness set to auto.. Half way seems way to bright to get any decent battery life.

I get about the same battery life on 50% brightness

About 6 hours of use. If I let it sit I get a day of standby.
Games, Internet, and netflix kill the life for me.
Last week I took it to work and forgot my plug. I watched Netflix on the battery for about 4 and a half hours. It was at 8% when I left.
Avg of 6 seems the norm. /shrug
That seems about right actually at 50% brightness. I keep mine on auto but it is usually at about 10-15% brightness and I can get 6 hours all day long over a bay or two of the charger

From initial setup (battery came at 62%) I let it completely die and then proceeded to do an initial battery charge cycle (charged it for 6 hours). After which I put it on the charger at about 14% which is normally right as I go to bed for regular charge cycles.
As for my battery life, I get an average 8 hours screen time while doing heavy gaming, watching Netflix/Youtube, listening to music, reading, and lastly browsing the web. As for standby time 3 days on battery on average (with Wi-Fi off during Sleep and always scan for Wi-Fi off).
This is with auto-brightness as I've found zero need to adjust it save for a few occasions I had to raise it for a few minutes while outdoors. If you want great battery life, leave the Nexus to it's own devices It knows how to handle it's brightness; very well I might add.
Granted your mileage my vary drastically as my Nexus 7 was flawless when purchased with zero of the known issues. (It also brought me to this lovely forum. )
Realistically you only need like 10-25 percent brightness on this thing at most times. This thing goes really bright.

auto brightness
About 10Hours of battery life.
Get about ten hours of battery life. I have brightness set to half. The real part that was saving me battery is the advanced wifi settings. I set it so that it never searches or keeps wifi on when sleeping. Also manually turn off wifi when I don't have coverage. I use alot of YouTube, internet and Netflix.
Hello I got this nexus 4 days ago and read it battery life suppose to be around 10 hour but I know it will be less. I'm getting about five. Curious what's everyone else is getting. Please post your battery life here.

I am described as a power user. I could engage in some heavy browsing and gaming and having the screen on all day and then let the tablet sit overnight off the charger, but I'd have to charge it late noon the next day. I usually land in the 1 day 2-8 hours range according to system battery stats. If you believe your battery sucks, roll back to 4.1.2 and your life will be phenomenal!
I'm not sure what tricks those users with 10hrs SOT have done, but I never managed to get more than about 6-7 hrs SOT. I thinks those highest results have been done with wifi off, brightness at lowest level and sounds off etc...
