[Q] Wifi and me - not happening! Piece of CRAP google! - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm sure I'm not alone in this.
My N4 won't connect to wifi. Well it connects but Won't keep a connection to complete a playstore app install nor update the system itself?
This is what I posted on "Issue 40065: Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 Wifi Drops connection Android 4.2"
New device just received. Will connect to wifi but unable to install any apps thru play store.... Just shows data transferring but none actually happens. I'm unable to install none of the gapps updates. Left it alone for 2 days did not help. removing password from router and making it an open router did not help. Now trying to decide I should return the device as it is only usable as a phone not a multimedia device which this N4 should be?
There are a lot of people having the same kind of issue on this phone. A little search brings up lots and lots of complaints.
Still unable to connect to my router encore model 2AN3.
Tried to connect to open wifi router at McD and [email protected]#$ - still no go. It will connect think about it and stops. The icon at the top turns green and gray and keeps doing it.
How ever I was able to connect to the open wifi router on another Nexus S (my older phone) and was able to download updates and install said applications from play store.
This tells me that hardware is good. Software coded so badly that it is unable to keep a connection to routers.
So if you need to use this phone on a wifi router - wait until google fix this or get another phone.
As for me - it is a shame I will have to return this phone to google as it is useless media device. Just a phone which I can get a cheap phone for 10 bucks not $400 piece of [email protected]#$%T.
Sorry for the RANT.

Also flashed rom CM10.1 stable and xylon 17 stable. Still same problem repeated. both ROMS can connect to my hotspot on my NS but unable to neither my home router nor public wifi.
A few things I have tried.
1. avoid poor wifi disabled.
2. switch chennels to 6 or 8 - tried all.
3. Resetting routers
4. Assigning static IP address
5. Cleared cache from recovery
6. changed the Wi-Fi band from 'Auto' to 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz
7. Flashed new kernel Running franko.
8. Flashed 2 other ROMS/cm10.1 and xylon17 both stable versions.
My home router have not trouble connecting to all other devices at home (NS, HP touchpad, 3 desktop and 3 other laptops, Tried with N4 being the only device that was turned on. : still no go!! WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY!!!
Also followed the directions from this thread. Still no candy.

Mine works flawlessly. You should contact Google for a RMA.

I guess its the lease period on your router that you need to change... put it to lease expiring n a day or two... shuld work.. I had this issue when I upgraded to 2.3.6 on my Atrix

I just called. This guy treated me like I'm noob. But I digress.. He asked me to turn off GPS and try again saying that GPS and wifi together can not be on at the same time. That still did not work. So there is a request for replacement. Not really sure when I will get it. But keep my finger crossed - that I get a working wifi and gps at the same time ??
Don't really want to return it though since I like the phone form factor and such!
What a shame.

Why wouldn't WiFi and GPS work together? I don't see any reason as to why one would interfiere with another

You shouldn't be flashing ROMs to try and fix something as basic as this. You're only adding more variables to the problem. My WiFi has been rock solid, and so apparently is that of most other posters. This would tend to indicate that there is a specific problem with your phone.
Unless there is something seriously wrong with your router it's RMA time I reckon.

Just to re-iterate .....
Wifi works if I connect to my other nexus S's hot spot.
Wifi will not stay connected to allow me to go to play store on any wifi router (home Encore ENHWI-2AN3 firmware version 1.1.3 - Mcdee's open wifi and [email protected]#'s open wifi router.) It will connect - get a blue wifi icon with a few arrows ..... but will go to gray and back to blue and so on ....
Waiting for google to make up its mind about shipping me a replacement.

[UPDATE]Official Nexus one Wifi issue thread(every N1 owner should read)

Sorry I know this problem probably has been brought up many times. But here I just want to make a total one and collect all the feedbacks from N1 users regarding to the wifi sleep issue with N1.
Let's just make it simple: Every N1 owner PLEASE DO test out the wifi connection when your phone goes to sleep as there are MANY people suffering from this problem all over the world. Especially the later buyers since February this year, almost every phone is potential to this problem.
######################################################
Diagnosis:
1. Set the wifi sleep setting to "never" in the wifi advanced setting menu.
2. Turn on Last.fm app(or Pandora, but Last.fm is most effective and responsive one to test it out), leave the phone on wifi and turn off the phone screen or let it goes to sleep.
3. The symptom is the app will stop streaming shortly afterwards(with Pandora stops maybe after one song, for which I suggest everyone test it for at least 15 minutes). Also most likely you will stop getting any email notification or anything requires data connection. And you might not be able to ping your phone or the ping responses VERY slow as well.
######################################################
######################################################
Background:
This problem was recorded from earliest almost 6,7 months ago and has affected both AT&T and T-Mobile versions(with reports of the same issue on other versions sold outside US). So far, it's suspected that the problem mostly likely lies in the lower level architecture of the phone(either software or hardware) because the problem still exists even after people has replaced the stock ROM with the custom ROM. Another proof is that people get problem with brand new phone and also the replacement phone. Another note is the problem has been found both before FROYO update and after. At this moment, there's no official fix(some Google employee blatantly brushed the issue away and asked N1 users to get over it, check out the link below for original conversation) for this issue except a work around thanks to wifi fixer app developer.
######################################################
This issue is often times neglected by N1 users because usually people don't use the phone on wifi all the time or they simply switch between 3g and wifi. But for people who use wifi a lot or use VOIP, it could be a real deal breaker.
So here I just hope everybody could test your phone out and see if you have this issue or not. Please report how your result turns out in this thread. Also, for further and more detailed discussion and cases, please check this out:
http://www.google.com/support/forum...52&hl=en&fid=01a47ff5b0a92d5200048be07b6cb5c1
You are more than welcome to add your experience to the discussion above so hopefully it can wake google up.
####################################################
UPDATE:
So Broadcom just released a wifi driver fix several days ago which may solve this issue. According to the record, phones with non-zero MAC address suffer from problem.
The driver has been incorporated into the latest Cyanogenmod(either RC or nightly build). People are reporting it fixes the problem while in some other cases, the problem still exists even after the fix, even for people who's MAC address starts with 00.
Last.fm works fine with the screen off here, always has done. I even turned off mobile data to be sure it's not switching over to that.
This is with the wifi set to sleep with the screen off (ie. the default setting).
i've been using wifi fixer and since i installed it, i haven't had a single wifi disconnect on my home network(it seems to be a network dependent issue as i never have issues on other networks)

yeah, the point here is that many phones have the wifi sleep policy issue(doesn't work).
Indeed, however mine does, so this thread will need both sides of the argument
No problems on my Nexus One, running latest CM 6 nightly build.
I bought it couple months ago from eBay, so I'm not sure which shipment it is from.
Only issue I'm having after upgrading to Froyo is that my phone won't connect to my home network by itself when in range.
I have to go into Wifi Buddy and manually connect. This never happened on 2.1, but magically started after the FRF50 update, and never fixed itself in the next couple of builds.

I have always had this same issue! Maybe its something to do with my home wifi? I am yet to test it on froyo.
I am mostly connected to wifi with no sleep issue.
I have kind of the same issue at home, I recently replaced my wireless router, I never had problems connecting to the old one it would just stop broadcasting constantly but my N1 would always connect automatically. With the new router my N1 keeps saying the connection is disabled and I have to connect manually. This never happens at work, it always connect automatically so it seems to have something to do with the router settings but I have no idea what.
No problems here. Last.FM works fine for me on WiFi when screen is off. I also get notifications. Running FroYo rooted with locked bootloader

i am having the same problem, when i go out of range from my wireless and then back in range, the n1 just says scanning and never re-connects.
that said, using a channel lower than 11 on my router did seem to help with the sleep issue.

sorta, i never had the issue on any network besides my home one
I've also been having the disconnect problem with my N1. Maybe it would help if people whose sleep policy is actually working could post what wifi router/AP/whatever they are using. Also, if possible the first for identifiers of their MAC address. I read on one of the Google posts someone with a MAC address starting with 38:E7 having problems. The MAC for my phone is the same. For what it's worth I'm using a D-Link DIR-655 router and a Speedtouch 716 v5 WL and am experiencing the disconnect on both.
I've had the issue with 2 N1 tested on 3 different routers. I've read that it is related to the low power mode the N1 uses while sleeping not playing nice with routers. Not all N1 show the problem, apparently only the most recent ones. I've called google support and was told google knows about the issue and is working on it, but I am a bit cynical and I'll believe it when I see a fix.
Wifi-fixer fixed my problem only after I disabled Sipdroid which was interfering with it.
Mac adress: 38:E7: D8
I'll post my router model later when I get home.

It's weird because most of the time I don't have this problem. My WiFi stays connected all night long to WiFi. But once in a while it does disconnect and switch to 3g. I think its certain routers, because I didn't have this problem for first 3 months on my old router, now it happens with my new router.
My phone never has trouble reconnecting back to WiFi. Everyday when I come home from work, as I walk up my driveway the phone has already automatically connected to WiFi. I've made sure about this one since I read this problem all over.
I bought my Nexus One directly from Google when it came out for AT&T. It certainly has the wifi issue and it is very annoying. My expectation is that the phone jump on my wifi network when in range as all of my other phones have done. Instead I have to manually engage the phone to get on wifi. SUCKS!
this is the biggest problem for me with my n1.
although the wifi does stay awake, it slows right down..
if i ping my phone, the response time increases when the phone is asleep, but doesnt time out.
if i ftp a file from my laptop to my phone, the speed drops from 1mb/sec to 100kbps/sec when the phone is asleep.
i have found the app "fix my wifi" solves the problem of waking the phone after a few hours of sleep and finding the wifi has failed. if only there was a way of getting the speed to stay the same.

[Q] No wifi

I just unboxed my elocity A7 yesterday but till now I can't connect to any wifi network. It keeps "scanning" but doesn't find any network even when I place it besides the router
I wrote to customer support and they gave me some suggestions but nothing changes. I updated the firmware and it keeps the same.
It's a great device but not without wifi.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
JC
Ouch. I have this problem with both my Droid 2 and initially did on the A7 as well.
I enabled and disabled WiFi.
Restarted the device
Tried to enabled WiFi again and got the same issue
Disabled and re-enabled and it connected right up. No problems since.
Android devices work great with routers, except some extra cases. Try to reconfigure router.
At first make open network (no hidden) without any security. Check WIFI.
If success, try to extend security.
If no success -> Probably should do factory reset / wipe. It's strange...
I have D-Link DIR-655 and NEVER got any problems (HTC Magic, HTC Tattoo, MyTouch 3G, MyTouch 4G, Acer Liquid, eLocity A7 - all connected fast and simple)
I used two variants: open network with MAC-address filtering or closed network with WPA2 security
The EA7 is a B&G only WiFi device...so make sure your router isnt set to N only (or A only).

Man, you can try go to the commercial centers or McDonalds where WiFi is translating 100% and usually not hidden nets are there.
If your other devices or friends devices are finding some nets and your tablet is not - so your device is broken.
Probably home network is confusing cause they might be hidden or with strong security or adhoc type, so you could think that wifi is broken.

Ok, I'm gonna try that before going any further. Everything else works perfectly including the bluetooth, so the next step I'm thinking of is finding a way to tethering ...
Just came across this thread... I too just got this tablet and had issues with the wifi. It recognized my home wifi network, tried to connected then siad disconnected, did it agian and agian. Thought if I rooted it, it would work. Still didn't work. Finally just to see, i went outside to my local cafe where they have free wifi and Pow! it worked! Narrowed the issue down to the router the cable company set up for me. So i ended up resetting the router, tired my tablet 1st unsecured at home, then made a secure network, connected my tablet again w/ newly created key. Works.. I'm no techie so i'm sure theres probably a more official/technical exlination on how i got it to work
Replaced by elocity
I finally sent the broken tablet to California and they sent me a working one. Good custumer service by Elocity

WiFi randomly fails to connect after last update

I've had my Transformer for about 2 months now and my WiFi connection has always been reliable and robust, but ever since the last OTA update (8.4.4.11) it's gone flakey. I know the problem is not my wireless router since WiFi was working great before the update and I have lots of other devices that connect without any issues.
At least once or twice a day after resuming from standby, the WiFi icon stays dark and no amount of trying to reconnect will get it back. After a few tries, I can actually watch the checkbox for WiFi settings toggle on and off repeatedly by itself.
I've tried changing the WiFi disconnect policies, closing down apps, and stopping non-critical processes but the only thing that fixes the issue is to power down and restart. WiFi will then work for awhile but eventually goes out again.
Anyone else seeing this?

That's kewl and all but what if you connect to different AP's during the day. I access through my EVO 4G while at work and then access my home network when I get home. This may or may not work. I'll have to see when I get my TF on Thursday. Thanks for the quick links though.
You can also increase the dhcp lease time in your wireless router, it also works for me.

Not exactly the same issue and I already set up static IPs for all the devices (32 of 'em!) on my wireless network long ago.
I did find that one particular app was probably the cause (PCFile Sync) and since replaced it with another having similar functionality, but I still very occasionally lose WiFi and have to reboot.

I've been following this issue since I started having it on the 3.1 update when I unboxed the thing, so I'd really like to understand what issue you found with PCFile Sync, or at least what led you down that road.
Up to this point because of my specific goings on I've been thinking it was more a DHCP/routing issue and not in fact a WiFi/connection issue - i have strong connection before and after whatever the event that shuts things down is, just no traffic.
A little more info here as well - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191792

The behavior I described in my initial post (watching WiFi toggle on and off in settings) seemed to suggest something was blocking or interfering with the normal connection after resuming from standby (I have my WiFi disconnect policy set to turn off WiFi when the display is off).
So I just started closing down apps that had WiFi access and when I killed PCFile Sync (which I use to sync files between the TF and an NAS), the problem went away. I'm now using FolderSync Lite which doesn't seem to cause any issues, although on rare occasions WiFi will still loop for awhile before connecting.
This never happened in HC 3.1 so I think it's a vulnerability in 3.2 under certain conditions ... and those not using a static IP on their LAN are probably seeing something similar happen.
You know, after using my TF after the update, I think what this wifi bug is really just a fix gone wrong. Maybe it's some condition set to turn on wifi only when in use (to save battery life, or allow certain tablets that won't go into deep sleep to go into deep sleep or something like that) but it's set with some super sensitive conditions that make it turn off unless there is an actual request for internet?
My bar goes from blue to grey/white after a minute or something, but I can seem to always access some webpage when I click it from an app. Hmm.

This happens to me with 3.1 randomly, though my policy is set to keep WiFi alive and I never used this PCSync app.
In my opinion the Android Broadcom WiFi card driver is buggy, because the SGS2 with android 2.3.3 has similar problems and also a Broadcom card.
So I guess it has nothing to do with the Android version, but is a buggy WiFi driver. I remember, that I had similar problems with an Intel card in a Toshiba notebook years ago and it was fixed with a driver update.
The question is, who develops the drivers, Google's Android team or Asus & Co? I guess the later? If it are the manufacturers, I find it strange, that Samsung has similar issues.
+ 1 on this very frustrating bug; since upgrade to 3.2 it happens every now and then ; as I did not install any new Apps I assume that this is just a very annoying 3.2 bug...

I feared, that someone would say this

SGS1/SGS2 Wifi connects but no Internet data transfer

I was wondering if anyone else have the same issue, I tried on my galaxys ,galaxy s2 and even on my galaxy tab 10.1 wifi could connect but there is no data transfer, I have tried this on several routers in my office but the result is same, is this a bug on android or hardware problem?
I have tried static IP, change many things but no chance, I even tried on different kernels but...
** my friends with blackberry and Iphone can connect to the same router and have internet

But as I say in the first post blackberry and iphone can connect
Yes I have the same prob, goes steady for ten mins, then just stops receiving a network connection, but my desire is fine. My honeycomb tablet does the same thing, but just turning wifi on and off fixes it. This appears to need a full reboot then works perfect again for a while. I've only had this phone two hours and have noticed it so surely others have.

I too faced the similar problem in the beginning dude...later some where in the forum one user stated to reduce the security level of modem or router from WPA/WPA2 to WEP/AES...then it works flawless...i don't know whether it is a problem with android or hardware...but most of the router or modem is secured with higher level of security which could not be accessed by our SGS2..i hope this would be fixed by software update..

Its is most likely router specific problem as its not a general problem and the majority have no problem with the highest security level .
jje
It seems to be a problem with just some devices as indicated by this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194635. For a high end smartphone worth £500, temperamental wifi is a problem i shouldn't have to put up with. My router has no problem with any other devices so it's clearly a fault with the phone.
Never had an issue with wifi and wpa / wpa2 on multiple hot spots and home. Try a factor reset and flash . On kf3 xeu

That tweaker site is for GPRS/3g connection, this thread is about WIFI connection, so it won't help.
I have wifi problems as well. It connects just fine when i first configured the network but it won't work back from standby, although it still looks connected it won't transfer any data. Today i noticed an extra detail, it would seem that an app that was connected was still working but anything else i started fresh (like openinng the browser to access a page) wouldn't work.
I also noticed it loosing connection once after using it continuously for around 15 minutes.
Still haven't tried changing the security settings on the router, but, i previously had an ipad2 (for a short time, then sold it because it's just an expensive toy) and it would display the same behaviour.
Before that, i had a Nexus S with the same router and it always worked flawlessly! No settings were changed in the router.
I'm going to try lowering the security to wpa or wep and test it later.
If it works it might be a problem with the router but it's also a problem with the device (phone/ipad).
EDIT: one more thing, when i first got the SGS2 it had an older rom (vodafone KE7 i think) and it worked flawlessly until i updated it to a newer version the next day. I can't be to sure this was the culprit because i didn't use it that much the day before and it was a fresh install so maybe the issue didn't have time to show up.
one of my friends has a captivate sgs he also has the same problem, seems to be an android bug, or maybe samsung, another issue on this phone is about the bluetooth , it can not discover my headset bluetooth (sony DR-BT50) I have tried galaxy s , galaxy s2 and galaxy tab 10.1 but none of them can discover the headphone seems my galaxy life is messed up
Well i had similar issues with my vibrant and even on my nexus one....i think it is android bug....but if u r using cm7 or miui...u can easily get rid of it...by going to wifi settings>>>>advanced settings>>>regulatory domain>>>>change it to 14 channels....
but my sgs2 doesnt have this prob so far....i used those settings on nexus one and vibrant....and it worked....
Hope this helps..

I din state anything like it is a general problem...and moreover i tried with my Cisco wifi and with belkin router i could not able establish connection with my sgs2 where as my iphone4 connects without any issues dude ...so i concluded that it could be a minor bug and can be resolved by software update ...

Surely it would be backwards compatible.
It should be meaningless if bluetooth 3 not support BT2.x many devices still using BT2.X, anyhow my laptop is bt2 but I can connect to my sgs or sgs2

My Glalaxy s 2 has the same problem. It was fine till i was on KF7 but things changed with KG6 now.
My SGSII connects fine to every WiFi I've tried to join (open and ones that I know the password for). That is at least 3 different models of D-Link routers, a few Belkin and others that I can't recall.
I don't count a connection until I can actually view the internet and live stream the radio and I have been on it for more than an hour (I was proving to an ipad & ipad2 users that there was nothing wrong with a WiFi router and it was their toys that kept on dropping the connection).
I am was using the E7 and now F3 stock ROMs.
I did have a problem for about half a day. It would say connected to the WiFi but I couldn't get to the internet. I had to switch off the WiFi and connect via data connection and then try again with the WiFi - sometimes it would work sometimes it didn't. The only thing I installed prior to the problem was the Twitter app (from the market). Once I uninstalled that app and rebooted the phone everything was working fine. I can't say for definite that it was the cause of the problem.
To the OP: since you are connected to the work's WiFi, could the problem with not seeing the internet be due to the Work using a proxy server. That is what my work has.

Well I have a router that was supplied by imagine.ie, its a Motorola router and they with-hold the password to change settings on the router, have you heard the like????
Anyway trying that twitter suggestion, maybe the sync function was causing intermitttent wifi problems
Edit: Scrap them not giving out passwords http://www.imagine.ie/wimax_hub_setup.html
After a few hours survey I could connect my phone to the wifi, but Im not sure if this method works for you, anyhow I will explain here check it on your phone and report back
-Downaload the application "wifi static" from the market and install
-turn your wifi on and then run the application
-in the application choose add configuration,a window will popup saying have found a wifi connection will ask you to set for this connection or no just accept
-exit the application and turn off wifi
-turn on wifi and try to connect to internet,if you can connect then you are done if you can not go to below
-go to wifi static and choose the configuration which is already set and change the DNS I changed DNS1 to 8.8.8.8 and DNS2 8.8.4.4
-reboot (maybe not neccessary but recommended to do)
-turn on wifi and connect to internet and check if you still can not then...
-wait for me for further study

Evening Yallll - Wifi question for yas!!!

OK so device is a - LG D80210B - 16GB - UK - EE - UNLOCKED - ROOTED - StockMOD rom with update package. 4.5gb storage space left.
2nd device is a - HTC ONE 16gb - STOCK - NO ROOT
3rd device is a - SAMSUNG RV510 Laptop.
Im on EE uk network on both phones with EE ADSL Broadband at both mine and my partners house.
Now.... One would assume everything from the same company would be simple... If only that was the case! haha.:silly:
Now which ever property I visit within 15 - 20 minutes of being on the Wi-Fi the LG G2 kicks everybody out of the router, all at the same time. No one can access the network until one of 2 things happens... either I disconnect for 15mins plus or the router gets restarted nothing else will bring back the internet. Note - This does NOT happen when I am not present and surfing can be achieved all day on any device.
So ive spoken to the useless turds at EE technical support on the phone about 30 x they have absolutely no idea what the issue is but its definitely only related to my device. There suggestion is to cancel and go back to sky (which worked flawlessly previously to EE being installed). this is an option but it means another month with no internet at all and I also get an additional 10GB of 4GEE data on my phone allowance if I have there broadband so it would be beneficial to keep it.
Things ive tried;
Every different setting under the sun.
Different encryption.
Static IP addresses.
DCHP settings.
the brightbox will only broadcast internet on 2.4ghz as well if it helps anyone diagnose.
Using a known router as an access point to see if that solves the issue - again perfect until I log on.
Tech support.
Search the net and forums on here.
Spoken to a networking wizard mate of mine.
The problem seems to lie in the LG G2 and/or Jellybean firmware currently installed and installed as stock as the fault is not present when I log off the Wi-Fi...
So..... I decided to try a different rom, the Slim Kat rom
The Wi-Fi works flawlessly for me and everyone else however the rom is just too unstable at the moment to be a daily driver. It doesn't have the complete knock on knock off features and I don't really like the look I much prefer the stock rom as well as some of the games I play just will not work.
Now ive had and been flashing smartphones for about 8 yrs with the help of you lot on here leedroid especially was one of my faves so im not a novice or anything im just lost for what else to do or try????
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?! I would send it away to see if its a hardware fault but as it works perfectly on kitkat I assume its got to be some kind of bug in jellybean.
OR ive changed something that's ****** it up.
I would really appreciate any imput at all because I have a phone I cant use at my partners house or at home ...
Cheers brett
Just to add it also does it when Im on my own i.e. just the phone.
bump for today.... this is really breaking me now as no one can use the wifi for longer then 15 minutes lol
So theres not one single person that has even the faintest idea of what my issue may be?
Someone had this issue before, read about it. A router update fixed their issue. If setting device static, the router also needs to be configured to hold it, try this with all devices and lock local IP's. Next, leave a device off and see if it gets kicked. The G2 seems a bit picky with routers... On the Comcast Technicolor, it won't push past 3.5 dl, but max up. Some old drt firmware has problems as well.

Thanks for the reply dude...
Yeah tried to update it but its telling me its on the most recent software even though its date is 2010. Called tech support they say it up to date.
I can set the IP in the DHCP section of the router but I cannot for one second find out how to do it on the phone... do you know?
I used DHCP to assign a static IP to both phones, the Nintendo wii, the sky box and the laptop, so they always pick up that IP from the router without fail. I also set the DHCP settings so that it does not conflict with any of the locked IP's just incase - so DHCP is from 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.99
Its not a router problem as much as id like to blame it on that because I used my old known working sky router as an access point to connect to as well and that make absolutely no difference apart from slow it down because it doesn't support "N" mode.
Its an EE brightbox router - piece of *****
I can leave the other 4 devices connected to the router 24/7 with no issue until I connect the LG G2. Then all devices are booted at the same time usually 15-20 mins sometimes less. never more. it also only occurs when just the LG is connected. Like now my phone is stuck at recovery ATM (another problem im trying to solve) and the internet hasn't dropped once my partner is on it and so is the sky box so its DEFO my phone that's doing the bad.
That's ODD that isn't it my up and downstream in the router are both above 10meg although the attenuation and line noise keep changing.
cheers for the input
In wifi menu of phone, hold on connection and select modify. Check show advanced options, chose static, input data(along with password again). Reboot phone. After you fix it of course.

I ended up getting a new router that seems to be ok so far... what does that actually do? Thank you so much for it suggestions

Sets static for phone. Has to be set on both router and phone. I just found out the G2 has some issue with AES on certain routers. Try TKP only. I had to do this with my other Technicolor. Odd thing is AES works fine on the SB 6141. Lost on that one.
Had exactly the same issue with my shiny new G2. Using a Netgear modem/Router. I upgraded the firmware and that seems to have fixed it. It was killing the Router within about a minute of use. Now running 25 minutes without any drops. Fingers crossed it's permanent.
