[Q] XT907 DE Root. Step by step instructions - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
Yesterday I unlock bootloader on my XT907 JB 4.1.1
Then tried to flash TWRP recovery:
1. download SDK.
2. Switch RAZR M into fastboot recovery mode.
3. Check connection with:
Code:
fastboot devices
3. Transfer TWRP to RAZR M with:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-recovery-scorpion_mini.img
4. Get answer - all is ok:
Code:
sending 'recovery' (7346 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.617s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 1.810s]
finished. total time: 2.429s
But now when I try to boot recovery I can see only broken robot image.
Can someone, please, give me step by step directions to:
1. Install TWRP or CWM on RAZR M XT907 Developer Edition with android 4.1.1
2. Get back original recovery
3. Root instructions for Developer Edition.
Thanx
UPD. pushing volume down and than volume up just give me stock recovery...
UPD.
Solved
For last firmware u have to reboot to recovery first time. If u load full system it will enabled stock recovery again.

how (which method) are you trying to flash the recovery?
Here's the quick guide
Install hTc drivers successfully on pc.
Remove hTc sync and other related apps.
Now download clockworkmod recovery(whichever you want) and fastboot+adb kit on pc.
Open fastboot.
Connect ur phone. Load the bootloader and then fastboot. Fastboot mode(something like that) should be on your phone. Paste recovery and boot image in fastboot folder.
Type fastboot devices
Type fastboot flash boot boot.img(boot.img can be found in ur stock ruu )
Type fastboot flash recovery 'recoveryname'.zip
After that disconnect ur phone.
Select recovery.
(If u dont see anything, it was unsuccessful, hold vol up+power to see default recovery.)
Now install roms like this(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1851096):p(my rom) via recovery.
Hit Thanks.
You are done
Note:s off is not required for flashing a custom rom, however an unlocked bootloader is.
help needed.
hey der. i have rooted my phone with s-on. but i am facing the same problem as i cannot boot in cwm recovery mode and hence cannot install a custom rom. i am no developer. so please can you elaborate your above method step by step. sorry i am a noob here.

You haven't flashed recovery properly.
Try flashing it again.
Use the flash command not the boot command.

I Rooted my X play last night. I used r4 twrp. When I select recovery mode from boorloader menu, it jumps straight into recovery. No need for the power button and up. If you see the android with red exclamation then I would success flashing it again via fastboot. remeber it's "fastboot flash recovery *.*.*.*.img". You might have used boot instead of flash.
I am using the right recovery here is the output
C:\adb>fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.1-clark.img

2.8.7.1 is the latest for this phone and when I press power when I get green android I get stock recovery . See attached .

I don't know what model phone that is. Looks completely different to any Moto X Play I've seen. Not that I've seen to many. I'm using the XT1562. The recovery I used was:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/orig-development/recovery-twrp-2-8-7-0-t3194656
I used r4. But the newest one is r5.
What model phone do you have?
I have moto X play pure edition ..
I have moto X play pure edition , i got the phone to go into recovery immediately flashing it . Now when i flash SU from the zip phone gets stuck at the boot screen only way to get the phone to boot is to restore the backup.
If you have flashed the recovery for Moto x play then I think you have made a mistake if your phone is Moto x pure edition as you have stated. This forum is for x play not for pure edition. So obviously all the files posted here are meant for only x play.So please go to the pure edition forum and search for what you want there.

Play and Pure are different phones btw.
But I rooted my play two days ago using windroid's tool. I had the same issue. There was a silent failure and I thought it had been flashed when it hadn't. I found that I had to download a recovery image (save as Recovery.img, not Recovery1 as the tool seemed to have done) and flash the recovery manually.

You are in the wrong forum. This is for Moto X Play. You have the Moto X Pure.
To confirm. Go to Settings>About Phone and check your Phone model number.
I had the same problem
Although do not believe it, there is a rare version, XT1563 model, which is simple sim, and brings pure Android; I had the same problems, to install the Recovery, until I found a * .bat, what I modified to install the TWRP v2. I used it to install the r4 and r5 versions without any problems.
But it was not with, the rooting

Cant't flash recovery

I'm trying to flash my new Mate 8 with TWRP but I can't.
I've unlocked bootloader, flash twrp recovery with fastboot. Everything seems to be fine:
Code:
$ fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'recovery' (31356 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.672s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.508s]
finished. total time: 1.185s
But for every time I've tried Huawei eRecovery runs instead of TWRP.
After you flash the twrp recovery, turn off the phone then boot into recovery by holding both volume up and power. This might prevent mate 8 to rewrite the stock recovery. If this works the next time you boot into recovery it will be twrp.
make sure also the phone is not plugged to your computer so you can enter twrp
Both your ways didn't work for me. After restart there is still Huaweii recovery. I've managed only to run TWRP. After flashing with
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
I didn't restart by
Code:
fastboot reboot
but unplug from computer, and power off by holding power button. After restart I boot phone into recovery by holding both volume up and power. TWRP runs and wants a password from me. I've tried password which I use to unlock phone, but that doesn't work. After restart there is still stock recovery.
Flash new twrp image after u install via twrp nougat and do not restart , reboot to twrp first ! Hpebthat helps

TWRP not replacing CyanogenMod recovery

Hi all,
I understand there is loads of this stuff online but found nothing related to Z1, please bear with me. So, after successfully installing TWRP my Z1 is always loading the cm recovery.
I'm with CM 12.1 yog4pap25i, update CM recovery is off.
After flashing TWRP is there specific actions I need to do? I've always rebooted into recovery with fastboot or the advanced reboot in the phone, but I'm always having CM recovery installed.
Thanks for your help

You unlocked bootloader and checked oem unlock im sure.
But which command did you use to flash the twrp?
Output should be like this:
C:\Users\anwender\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot -i 0x2b4c flash recovery recovery.img
target reported max download size of 1610612736 bytes
sending 'recovery' (8686 KB)...
OKAY
Please post your output
Hi @strongst, I'm on mobile now but yes, the response is ok. Also I've checked what you suggested. The problem is I think I did everything well, but somehow I'm not rebooting correctly
after that command type fastboot boot twrp.img (twrp is the name of recovery img) and it will booted into recovery

I would say, after installing twrp, directly type fastboot reboot recovery and boot to recovery immediately.
Booting into system will replace the stock recovery

Hi, this is the message received after flashing:
PS C:\platform-tools> fastboot -i 0x2b4c flash recovery recovery.img
target reported max download size of 1610612736 bytes
sending 'recovery' (9578 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.340s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.138s]
finished. total time: 0.594s
then I digit this
PS C:\platform-tools> fastboot reboot recovery
< waiting for device >
if i switch off it is booting automaticaly into CM12. If I exit the shell and try power + volume down it opens a plain recovery, neither the CM revocery nor the twrp. Any idea of what I'm doing wrong?
edit: also tried this
PS C:\platform-tools> adb devices
List of devices attached
cb02ec72 device
PS C:\platform-tools> adb reboot bootloader
PS C:\platform-tools> fastboot -i 0x2b4c flash recovery recovery.img
target reported max download size of 1610612736 bytes
sending 'recovery' (9578 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.330s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.134s]
finished. total time: 0.467s
PS C:\platform-tools> fastboot boot recovery.img
< waiting for device >
looks like the fastboot is gone after flashing
hi everyone, sorry for the newbie question above. Eventually I've managed to install TWRP, I just missed the right key combination to reboot.
Thanks

Can't boot in twrp

Hi, i'm trying to root my redmi note 7 so first i need to boot in twrp in order to root my phone.
My problem is that i can't enter twrp:
I've unlocked bootloader and installed adb + enabled usb debugging. Then, i enter fastboot (adb reboot bootloader), i flash the recovery with twrp img, which works fine
C:\Users\Ailiganon\Desktop\redmi note 7 root tool\platform-tools>fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Sending 'recovery' (65536 KB) OKAY [ 1.410s]
Writing 'recovery' OKAY [ 0.452s]
Finished. Total time: 1.928s
But then, when i want to enter twrp using VolumeUp+Power button, it simply boots the phone normally !!!
I've also tried using this command when in fastboot: fastboot boot twrp.img but it does nothing although in CMD, it shows the command worked fine:
C:\Users\Ailiganon\Desktop\redmi note 7 root tool\platform-tools>fastboot boot twrp.img
Sending 'boot.img' (65536 KB) OKAY [ 1.392s]
Booting OKAY [ 0.133s]
Finished. Total time: 1.584s
I can access recovery mode when i turn off my phone and simply use VolumeUp+Power button (not from fastboot) but since Xiaomi overwrites the recovery mode everytime it reboots, it just enters the regular redmi recovery menu and not twrp. Idk what to do else
I've used the twrp img from this video: www youtube com watch?v=r3R9kiBIx34 (i can't post url >.<) and i've tried another one on another website, but i think it was the same one since they had the same size.
Hope someone can help me ty

I've unpacked orangefox, flash recovery.img in fastboot mode, and then i held the recovery buttons, but yet again, it just boots the phone and it's even worse cause it prompts me a password to access android that i dont fkin know. So i've had to reset the phone using "fastboot format userdata" command. I did it twice cause the first time i had a schema to unlock the phone so i've put a password instead but the second time it prompted me the password, i've put the password i've chosen to unlock the phone but it said "wrong password". So i don't know what password they ask, and i dont know why it appears only after flashing orange fox....
I've also tried with the command "fastboot boot recovery.img" with the same result as earlier
C:\Users\Ailiganon\Desktop\redmi note 7 root tool\platform-tools>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Sending 'recovery' (30488 KB) OKAY [ 0.659s]
Writing 'recovery' OKAY [ 0.216s]
Finished. Total time: 0.917s
What orangenfox said by cancel and format data?
