I have a Nexus 4 that I've rooted but still use the stock ROM. I am going to Germany soon for a vacation and wanted to use it as a GPS device with a Telefonica O2 SIM from the Frankfurt airport. My question is this: does the US version of the Nexus 4's stock ROM have good GPS performance in Europe or should I switch to CM? I've been burned before with the US stock ROM on my Nexus S in France where it NEVER found a satellite.

There is no US version of Nexus 4, every stock Nexus have this same software on whole world. Nexus S and Gnex have had few variants but Nexus 4 is only one
The nexus s had crappy gps, everyone knows that. The nexus 4 it a totally different beast. There is also no US or EU versions, they are all the same. What happened was your phone couldn't go online to download AGPS data so it takes much longer to get its first lock. The same will be true for the nexus 4 too and any smart phone that just travelled 4,000 km and needs to figure out where it is.
If you are using that SIM, are you using Google maps navigation as well as that will suck down tons of data so be prepared for that.

Excellent, I have pre-cached the areas we are going to be driving through in Bavaria so hopefully it won't be too bad on data. O2 has a 15 Euro data plan for 1 Gb over a month, so I hope to be just fine data-wise. I really appreciate the help!
The GPS worked fine in Sweden and Norway but I would watch for data usage....

Looking at getting a mate to get me a Nexus 4 from the google play store while he's in the US. Everything should work on the phone fine in New Zealand right, no region locked type stuff?
Cheers
Yes, it will work fine, no N4s are carrier locked and they ask have the right radio bands. I bought an N4 from Google in the UK and sent it to my son in NZ.

HI all,
I'm being moved to China through work. I'd like to take my Nexus 4 with me. It's an off-the-shelf phone, meaning I haven't rooted or done anything to it.
Will it work in China if I buy a local SIM?
Thank you for your assistance.
I dont know a reason, why this shouldnt work in china. Take care and check your food twice. Dont want you to expereince 'hot dog' or something over there
Yup, as long as your chosen carriers uses one of the frequencies the N4 works on you'll be OK.
I come from China. And I'm using China Unicom 3G sim card with my N4.

I currently use a Nexus 5 and 2nd gen Nexus 7 (wi-fi only). I love both devices especially the Nexus 5 which I use quite often in Canada (home base), US (on T-Mobile), Europe and Australia. I'm thinking seriously about moving to the Note 4 with the thought I might be able to consolidate on one device. I really like vanilla Android and being able to get the latest stable OS ASAP. I used to have both my Nexus 5 and 7 rooted but don't anymore as corporate apps required I unroot and I've learned to live without root and xposed and all that good stuff.
My greatest concern about moving to something like the Note 4 is losing the very extensive 3G and LTE band support that the Nexus 5 has. I don't believe the carrier-specific models of the Note 4 are yet known but I'm assuming to get UMTS and LTE band 4 support that I'd have to get the T-Mobile model and unlock it. However I'm also a little confused as I read somewhere that with the Note 3, the SM-N900T (sold by T-Mobile) and the SM-N900W8 (apparently sold by all Canadian carriers) all have pentaband support albeit just with carrier-specific ROMs although this thread seems to suggest the only way to get band 4 support is with the T-Mobile model.
I'd appreciate any advice from knowledgeable users about this. I'm sure there must be others who want to move to the Note 4 but want pentaband support including LTE where possible.
Thanks.

Nothing is better than Nexus 5 until Nexus 6
as u know u can feel freedom with nexus device
don't upgrade to note 4 buy it beside nexus 5
Yes I must admit that the Nexus devices are fantastic. I had the Nexus 4 and also the Galaxy Nexus. Nexus 6 will be interesting.
Unless you need S Pen (as I do), don't move from the Nexus land of quick updates and stock Android.
Differs from person to person. I'm moving from the Nexus 5 mainly because of the smaller screen, no expandable storage and subpar battery life.
For me, I say sell the Nexus 5

This sums up my thoughts quite well.
I love the Nexus 5 for its simplicity (it just works, no crashes, no hassle) and the sheer speed of it. However, I'm getting very frustrated with the battery life, it gets me through a day, but I have to keep an eye on what I have running (no location, no Google Now, etc) which is annoying, and I have to limit my use sometimes if I know I won't be able to charge it until the late evening.
The lack of memory is also a killer for me. I don't think I will ever get a device with only 32GB of storage again, I store a lot of stuff on my phone, which leaves me with very little free storage, and I end up juggling what I have saved/installed on the phone. 64GB would be an absolute minimum of storage, but ideally I'd want a microSD slot.
The camera on the N5 is decent, but there's been a few times where it's annoyed me with poor performance, slow use time, and poor focus performance. It can take some pretty nice photos most of the time, but an upgrade would be definitely welcome!
Then there's the size, I actually really like the size of the N5, but I'm just tempted to try something larger and see how I get on with it. The same goes for the S-pen, I may find that I don't use it at all, but then again I might find it something that I really enjoy having.
So overall... I'll probably swap the N5 out for the N4.
I have the HTC One M7 and this is the last time I am getting a phone that does not have removeable battery(I dont like power bank) and memory. I will be moving to the N4. BUT I will dearly miss the two front speakers as I like to Skype and video chat on it. I dont like headphones.
Hey guys
First of all: Yes, i did do some research, but have not found that much.
I digged out mi old nexus 4 these days, as i need a second mobile for now.
Back in the days where i actively used it, everyone was talking about the nexus 4 having an lte chip.
So i have root and all this, but i don't now, if there is a working modem for the frequencies in switzerland out yet. Specificly for the provider swisscom.
I do not really know where to search and hope some of you guys know better if it is possible to use LTE on my Nexus 4.

@ClisClis
Nexus 4 only supports band 4 lte. According to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
no carrier in Switzerland uses band 4.
Not what i was hoping to hear, but thank you!
Just wondering if anyone has got the Nexus 6P from Vodafone UK?
Has it come with any apps installed?
Is it locked for Vodafone?
If either of the above 2 are yes, how easy is it to undo?
Thanks
If your due an upgrade just pop into car phone warehouse and get your upgrade from them, can't think why else you would opt for a Vodafone version?

I wouldnt go through vodafone, 1)they are crooks 2) their network isnt the strongest coverage 3) they avoid a LOT of uk taxing. 4)o2 is better and their 4g is everywhere iv been with my nexus 6p plus they do deals from 30 a month unlimited calls and texts with 3gb data a month (calls for me include in any part of europe my tariff covers me too)
much better deal and price than vodafone i think
