It is I don't know if I broke my phone
Sent from my GT-S5360L using xda app-developers app
You probably didn't break it.
Make sure you're in a 4G area first off.
Now follow these steps,
1. Go to the Dialer
2. Type *#*#4636#*#*
3. This will lead to a secret testing menu, click on the first option.
4. Scroll down and there will be a Network Type, and click on that and change it to WCDMA only
5. If you do have a 4G signal, you should be connecting.
Hope that helps!
If that doesn't help, then i suggest following a guide so you can flash the stock rom and unroot and relock the bootloader.
Then you can send it in to the company, and they will never know.

Last week I got an unlocked defy from Amazon to use with simplemobile in the US. I activated a sim card and everything worked fine (data, calls, texts).
I made a backup with titanium back up, installed IML74K 4.03 AOKP build28 for Motorola Defy and all went smoothly. However, once it was loaded, I could not connect to the simplemobile network and would only get "emergency calls only"
Tried the baseband switcher v4.0, different frequencies and had no luck. In the attempt of reloading the ROM, could not get the phone to boot past the loading screen. Then I attempted to load a full SBF (T-Mobile_MB525_6.19.0_1FF). This resulted in a black screen, probably due to a version mismatch.
Then I flashed JORDN_U3_6.36.0_SIGNED_USAJRDNTMOB1B4B5DE1028.0R_JORDANTMO_P022_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf, and all worked...except connecting to the network. I still get "emergency calls only". I tried baseband switcher and 3gFixUSA found on these forums to no avail.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what to try to get the radio functioning again?

I'm having the same problem on t mobile..... ugh.
I got it. I think.
Nevermind. seen you have used baseband switcher...
Does the baseband switch stick after reboot?
But, theres a 3g fix somewhere here... Try here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897445
Im not sure if that will help... cheers.
Yeah, I tried that exact 3g fix...is it possible that the radio firmware version is too old/too new/just wrong? Is it different than the baseband?

I'm sure you tried all the basebands that it shows... Hm.. I had the problem until I switched to cm7 honestly.. I know the radio cant be old if it worked before. So. Im not completely sure... Except. Im on Tmobile :c
Interesting...well maybe I should try to install cm7 as well. Is there a specific build that you used? Also, did it work out of the box, so to speak, or did you have to do some more baseband switcher tests?
At this point I'm willing to try to replicate whatever worked for you if you would be willing to share what worked, I would greatly appreciate it

Its the build by Shawnshine. But I'm.sure the other builds would work.. and yes mine worked out of the box. I just tried all the basebands for tmobile and one finally worked. Plus try playing with the sim card. I got mine completely bone stock. I came from a evo 4g and a 3D. But I wont have this phone for too long I'm getting a HTC one next month but this phone has been good to me.

So I own the Telecom NZ version of the Galaxy Y. The only difference this phone has to the other version is that it supports the 850mhz 3G band in conjunction with the standard 2100mhz band.
I have managed to root the stock rom the phone came with (DOKK3 2.3.6), and I wanted to install Creeds Rom 3.5. I wiped the phone, flashed the rom and restarted, but my camera didn't work. I'm now back on stock DOKK3 (lucky I made a backup, because I can't find the original firmware anywhere else).
Is this because of the radio/baseband? It is currently DOKK3. Does it need to be anything specific? Would flashing an international radio disable the 850mhz 3G band?
Thank you for listening to all my questions

You're from Cologne! How cool. I'll check out that link, and yes, my phone is a prepaid carrier branded one. However I haven't read anything about roms for it because it's only sold in New Zealand and there are probably only like 10,000 of them out there.
Thanks!
Don't suppose you have a flashable version of your DOKK baseband I could download? I made the stupid mistake of flashing my phone with an international version after I bricked it and didn't make a backup. Now it's not showing the XT network anymore.

Hey Ketchup,
I also have the Telecom NZ galaxy y and have experienced the same issue regarding the camera, and the accelerometer is also out by 90 degrees. However I did not make a backup of the stock rom
Can you please please please upload your copy of the stock rom so that I can download it? It would be very much appreciated as right now my phone is nearly unusable :crying:
Thanks very much

[Q] New N900 has bad signal and "your device has been modified" update error
Hello forum,
I am in the UK using a Virgin sim and my girlfriend bought this phone new in china and flew it over to me. At the moment the signal is really bad wherever I go (the same SIM card in my old galaxy nexus had great signal in all these places) so I was wondering if there was any way to make the signal better?
Also I tried to do an update through the settings menu hoping this would sort out the signal problem and it is giving me the "your device has been modified. no updates available for this device." error even though the phone is new.
the information about the device is as follows:
when I type *#1234# I get:
AP: N900ZSUBMI5
CP:N900XXUBMI2
CSC:N900OZSBMI2
In my "about device" within settings, the following is given:
Model number: SM-N900
Android version: 4.3
Baseband version: N900XXUBMI2
Kernel version: 3.4.39-1625296
[email protected]#1
Wed Sep 11 19:49:31 KST 2013
Build number: JSS15J.N900ZSUBMI5
SELinux status: Enforcing
If I reboot to recover it opens:
CWM-based Recovery v6.0.4.5
Compiled by Xiaolu(20131121)
When I try to check knox I cant see it (I go into odin mode and the top left just says the following):
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
(I now understand the N900 doesn't have knox)
Thanks for looking, any feedback at all would be much appreciated :good:

Well it looks great. At least I can be sure that your phone shouldn't be a fake. It is of Hong Kong or Taiwan origin, Exynos, running 4.3 on N900ZSUBMI5.
You have CWM Recovery, Xiaolu's port of it. Hence that device was probably rooted prior to getting it handed over to your girlfriend. KNOX is only present on the MJ and onward firmwares, and you happen to be on an MI firmware so you don't have it activated yet.
Check the section for Network/Bearer and Wireless Connectivity on this link: http://www.samsung.com/levant/consumer/mobile-phones/mobile-phones/galaxy-note/SM-N9000ZKEXSG-spec
Match it up with your country's network specifications. There's a reason why these phones don't get sold worldwide, as they aren't all compatible with every region. Also remember to set correct APN values for your country.

okay thanks for your reply, I believe the frequencies virgin use are 1800MHz and 2100MHz which can both be used with this phone. The APN settings were downloaded automatically when the phone was first booted and I also manually checked them and they are correct.

What is your network switch options in Settings?
Do you have it to HSPA/GSM (auto connect) set? [Sorry if it's not exactly the same, I don't have the N900 model]
My friend pointed this out to me just before I saw your message, the options available are only wcdma/gsm hspa isn't an option. Im guessing from my limited knowledge that this is the problem, what is it I would need to do to fix this? thanks again.

Actually, I asked my friend who has the N900, he's reporting the same as you. So no problem in that.
There must be something else that can be isolated to find what's going on. You can try to upgrade the phone to the latest modem by flashing the latest 4.4.2 ROM.
Okay, what would be the best way to flash the latest ROM? Would this be a custom ROM or is there a way to get the official one? Thanks again.
Edit: I have now tried putting Dr Ketans rom on it, telling it to use the ROMs modem, and that still didnt fix the problem. I have also tried flashing some other modems from the GSM modems collection thread but the problems persist. The symptoms are as follows:
Frequently looses signal
only ever shows the E or G symbol for mobile internet connection (whereas on my other phone with the same sim it instantly gets full signal and shows H+ or 3G)
the phone has also never been able to lock onto a GPS location it only ever shows searching for GPS in the notifications bar.
Hello. Please forgive me for being a noob, but I'll do my best to be precise.
But, I decided to sign up and create a topic here because I need some specific help and/or clarification.
(Sorry if I am perhaps not in the correct place but my brain is numb from hours of reading all areas here)
The story:
Purchased used Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in Canada originally on WIND Mobile. Unlocked phone for use on TELUS.
After a month, the phone ended up getting blocked IMEI due to it being reported lost/stolen.
Purchased "IMEI repair" service with free SIM unlock and sent phone away to "Joe The Android Rooter" (androidrooter.com) based on other's similar experiences and praise.
Received phone back, IMEI good, phone in good working order.
The problem:
The Note 3 with manual APN settings via a phone call with Telus only has Network Mode options WCDMA/GSM (Auto), WCDMA or GSM only. Phone gets 3G signal. Slow data speeds are fine, but my text messaging and phone calls rarely work where I live, which is a rural area. Dropped calls, lost texts, or no service. My Samsung Galaxy S3 does LTE and never has an issue. I would prefer to have faster data and reliable network/modem mode.
Called Telus again, and was directed to this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489766
Have been reading around here wherever I could find information, and I'm not totally confident or clear about doing that.
It is all a little confusing to me so I need some straight forward help. I would be forever in debt.
The questions:
According to that thread, I would have to follow all those steps to enable LTE on my phone. What do I need to ensure that nothing has been modified with the IMEI repair so I don't run into any problems?
I tried the step of using the dialer for *#272*[IMEI]# and it brought me the options, and the Telus one (TLS) is listed. Can I just make that change, and voila? Or do I have perform root, etc? I'm just trying to make this easy and from what I read, I shouldn't even have been able to bring up that option through the dialer in the first place?
This thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618684 made me second guess everything.

You just have to do the 272 code to switch to Telus... You should have lte after that. But beware, this will completely reset your device... You will have to reconfigure it from scratch.
You might as well upgrade it to the latest firmware... Your baseband should be nb7 also... Or ni1 if you use the latest videotron firmware to manually upgrade. To your will still have to change the csc (272 code) to get the correct config from r Telus

Resetting isnt an issue or anything. My main concern is doing the code/csc change, still being able to do OTA updates, or at least over Kies. I'm happy enough sticking with OTA and TouchWiz and not toying around with the phone otherwise.
I've rooted (and loved) all my devices in the past (HTC, Motorola, LG) but had such a problem with my Galaxy SIII and when I tried to root it, not only was it the most difficult, but it turned it into a nice paperweight.
I got a good deal on this phone and like the size is all.

If you change the csc with the 272 code, you shouldn't have any trouble doing ota updates. All stock Canadian roms are exactly the same... You can download and install a bell rom on a Rogers device and retain your Rogers apps/config. Only the csc is changing... And this csc is there to reconfigure your device for the specific provider.
Worst thing worst, you will have to manually download and install the latest stock rom with Odin... And after that, you will be fine. But I really doubt that you will have to do this.
Well thank you!
I backed up the phone with Kies just to save my settings and simple stuff so I wouldn't have to do it again manually, but I don't mind doing it again if I have to.
Used the code to change the CSC, rebooted, LTE is working fine. Texts+calls all function like they used to without dropping my signal and stuff.
Just using Kies to restore little stuff and I'm good.
I checked to see if I have root, which I don't. What I wonder is why everything I read told me I shouldn't have been able to simply dial that code and change the CSC without rooting? I have seen a number of people having similar issues, but if it really was this simple without root, why is it not clear that you simply just need to do this? Heck, even Telus told me to root the phone. I didn't expect that.

You never have to root a phone to change the csc when the target csc is already included on your rom... Which is the case for the Canadian version of the note 3... It contains all csc for all Canadian providers (at least those that are selling it). And I think it's the same for all recent Samsung devices...
I believe You need root to change csc when the csc you want to use is not in your rom and you want to flash an other rom that includes the new csc.
tprevir had
How come then, such as on that thread here that initially sparked my willingness to do all this, was it not simply mentioned in there that one could just use the code and make the change, without having to deal with all the rooting/etc?
Of course rooting has many benefits, but some may just simply need the carrier/radio switch to enable LTE and nothing more - such as myself. (I'm okay with stock because of the S-Pen, but I am certainly considering rooting the device down the road, once it becomes "stale" to me)
As stated in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489766 "Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (model: SM-N900W8) and wish to enable LTE for a specific carrier? Follow these in-depth instructions and you will enable LTE for this specific model." which was the most comprehensive thing I could find via Google, but it really did make me wonder if it was all truly needed, to which it was not.
probably no one know at that time that all Canadian Note 3 were using the exact same rom...
that being said, not all SM-N900W8 are the same... this model is also used in other contries... so if one had bought it somewhere else, he would need to do more things to finally get LTE and/or the correct carrier apps.
The thread is from April... and at that time, I just had my device for a few days... and I did not know that we could only change the CSC to switch the configuration for an other provider. I learned a lot by reading on this subject here and there.

Maybe i'm wrong but i noticed you have NB7 Rom but MJ4 baseband and your problem is probably here. I bought a used note 3 and it was in the same condition. i wasn't getting LTE. If you try to upgrade your phone via ODIN, you have to go to download mode by powering off the phone first . If you go to download mode by any other way the modem partition is protected and will be not updated. I've reflashed the entire Rom and now i have NB7 baseband and NB7 Rom and i'm getting LTE with fido. Hope this helps!

That's what I was concerned about at the beginning (NB7 & MJ4) but my solution was to quickly backup what few things I wanted to keep from my phone (a few pictures, contacts, settings) and then do the *#272 code and select Telus. Once it rebooted, everything worked good as new. In fact, my up/down speeds are through the roof compared to the SGS3 that I had previously and for whatever reason the quality of sound in phone calls are dramatically increased. Like AM radio to FM.
Either way, doing that code, nothing else had to be done on my phone - no rooting, no tinkering and no hassle - other than entering the code and selecting Telus.
I tapped on a setting in the *#9090# menu. At this point the phone will only find service with the lte discovery app. I can register on ATT TMO VRZ. yet when in a call there is no sound. can confirm calls go through. If the unit is on any other bootloader or baseband there is no service and mobile networks is not accessible , it says insert a sim to access. the baseband and any other info in the about phone status menu is unknown cept for the ser.#. I have a twp bkp of JDC 8.1, and the latest tmo stock tw backed up. they are no help. my questions are what have I screwed up and is it fixable. thank you for your time

Now, I have the newest bootloader for SGH-M919 ending in FQA1 (4.4.4) and the only working baseband is still UMDL (4.2.2). I'm running 8.1 JDCTEAM, WiFi and cell are working great. But Why cant I upgrade the baseband?
