Hi,
I have a T-Mobile Vario that I unlocked to use my Vodafone SIM.
Each time after I do a soft reset or restart the system comes up with a "network notification" showing the area code I am in.
Is there anyone who had this same problem and is there a way to switch these "network notifications" off.
Yep.. Same here.
RUU_Prodigy_1060701_101_11310_QTEK_WWE_Ship has the same "feature". This message is displayed once after logging to network so I can live with it.

No. If I add it and also channel 50, I get notifications on every cell change.
Priit: hmm. But you guys want no notifications at all right?
V
I only get that notification if I'm in Glasgow (where I work). Where I live (out in the stix) I get no such notification although I hasten to add I still have top reception.
Out of interest, does anyone know any other codes and what they do? I'm on o2 and I don't know if these things actually work for us.
also from glasgow with latest rom and sometimes get these notifications. doesnt bother me htough, its not often that i have to reset the device.
these broadcast channels? does anyone have any others for O2 as i would also be interested in them.... especially ones that deliver beer to my doorstep?
regards
I'm experiencing the same thing. First I thought it is to be a one time thing which I can live with it. However, as soon I as have other reminder around, this Network Notifications is a 'threat'.
Whenever I get into a no service (weak signal) zone and back again, I will get logged into the network and receive this network notification. Which is fine with me until I notice that, once this notification is in place (e.g. before you dismiss it), all other reminder will not be shown (no display, no vibrate, no sound, etc, nothing), which really concerns me.
Seems many have the same problem

From other forum, this guy is having the same problem as me, the notification somehow covers the alarm that he set

Hi all,
I've come up with an idea today, after I got a new job, I have to visiting different clients in different locations, however, sometimes, I've got no network signal at all, maybe sitting inside a restaurant, in this case, my family and my clients can't reach me.
My idea is, besides, checking the phone from time to time, is it possible to have a sound alert, which like SMS, email alerts?
Check under phone settings for the service tone.
I'm sorry I don't understand. I don't see such option in my Atom Life.
Sorry that I'm new to WM devices.

I totally agree with you..I find quite some time..I knew there exists in PhoneAlarm..but that is too big a application...
try rk-Location, search the forum for it..i believe it does the job
I have seen a bunch of UMA/Tethering threads that seem to taper off into tethering which more people seem to be into.
However, I barely get any signal in my house and really need UMA or I am going to have to return my sweet new G2 which I don't really want to do. How close are we to getting a UMA hack or the real thing in the form of update.
Thank you in advance.
I agree. I am in the same position. The Wifi calling thread deteriorated into a Tethering thread and what I really need is exactly the same thing. I have to use my BB Bold 9700 with UMA once I get home to my house. I purchased the G2 with the hopes of Wifi Calling coming to it.
I am still believing that it WILL before year end, but obviously the sooner the better as I am getting sick of switching my sim card back and forth constantly.
Is there anyone in the know?
Well, I returned my G2 (within the 14 day initial purchase). Maybe I will buy it again. I just can't deal with the intermittent no service in my house. Even my ATT iPhone had 1 bar in my house which assured the phone would ring and I could text.
If UMA comes to the G2 then I will be a very happy owner of it. Till then, pitty me for my use of a 3G iphone.
hopefully when the mytouchhd..or 4g? comes out the g2 gets the uma as well.. i get some ok signal at home but i want my UMA already.. ive had it for the last couple of years with my BB's
Just to clarify here. The Wifi calling on Android will not hand off to the cell network like it does on the Blackberry phones that support it.
Found a source to confirm!
hxxp://blog.wirelessground.com/t-mobile-wi-fi-calling/
(Note: that was just the first result that came up for a google search of the topic)
For me, the not handing off isn't a problem. I rarely walk out the door with the phone against my ear. I just want to get phone calls in my house.
I have a Blackberry, and so does several of my friends. I've never seen a Blackberry hand off a UMA call to the network or vice versa. It always drops the call when it transitions between UMA and the cell network. So it sounds like it'll work just like a Blackberry.
If you have Gmail open on your computer and your phone does not have a signal it will ring on your computer. Not sure how I did it or if its auto but it will get me by til UMA/WiFi callings comes.

That's a feature of Google Voice. If you have setup Google Voice in your phone's voicemail settings, enabled GChat as a phone in your Google Voice settings, and set the Google Voice forwarding options for your mobile phone to ring your other phones before going to voicemail, then calls to your mobile number will ring in GChat.

Cool thanks I had no idea i was in the other room watching TV and my computer started ringing. Wouldnt be too good if my wife was on the computer and my GF called ( if i had one lol). Any way to get rid of the 14 txt messages, email, and a google voice notification every time i get a voicemail?
I have been trying to check the Phone locating service at Htcsense.com but i can't get it to work.
When i login to my account and click on phone finding i get the message that i need to activate that function on my phone, the thing is that i already did that, over and over and over again.. and nothing works.
Anyone else had that problem?
Well - Htcsense.com seems rather buggy for now.
Some times i can make all the functions works - other times i can't.
Mine is working fine in Denmark.

I've had the same problem. I forgot to set the HTC Sense update schedule to "As items change (Push)"
go to Settings -> Accounts & sync -> HTC Sense -> Update schedule -> As items change (Push)
At least that was the problem I had, hope it helps

that was already set as default for me, and i have tried to change it and then change back. i have tried to change every setting even with wifi on and even with it off (in case that was any problem). i have removed my account from the phone and even at htcsense.com and then readded it. i even tried with a different email adress when i created my sense account again. I have tried everything now i think and htcsense.com says my phone finder is inactivated and i need to go to "Settings>location>phone finder" and turn it on.. but it IS turned on :S
The lock phone function doesn't work either.. but htcsense.com says it does
can it have anything to do with that i run the stock rom but rooted and with S-Off?
I have the exact same problem as you, and my htc sense sync is also by default on as items change (push). I was about to have another try and getting it to work so will let you know if I find anything. I can get htc sense to make my phone ring loudly but havent tried locking it down, other than the location finder just tells me I need to turn on phone finder which I have done many times like you.
I am in New Zealand if that makes any difference using a desire z from UK.
similar story here. Desire Z from UK, but HTCSense.com is not syncing my contacts, messages, or location. cannot call/make it ring.
to be clear, I have set the Account to 'push-sync' and I have also checked the box in "Location" setting for my phone to be able to be found.
....and I was looking forward to being able to use this feature as I lose my phone in the house too often
HTCSense.com told me that I have my "phone finder" turned off on my phone, right from the start, even though that setting is definitely on
I rooted my phone last night, with S-OFF too. I can still make my phone ring from HTCSense.com, though it seems it needs a data connection to do that - because I had been using my phone with Internet pass-through and (as per another thread I posted) that made it lose the data connection when I'd finished, and it couldn't make the phone ring till I restarted it.
Even though I've specifically sync'd HTCSense.com from the phone, I still don't see any of my Contacts or Messages on there (same before root/S-OFF too).
It might be a gps issue, can you confirm that your gps is working on other apps?
My gps is working fine as is Phone locator on htcsense.com
My GPS works fine on other apps.
I've called up HTC Europe (UK branch) and spoke to customer services.
They are aware of the problem and said they couldn't give a definite time frame, they just hoped to sort it in the next few weeks.
Kinda sucks as this was 1 of the features I was really looking forward to with the D-Z.

All of it. On Dashboards on htcsense.com it doesn't pick up the handset - says phone finder is off in locations.
I heard that some people got it to work by signing in with a google email address but this didn't make any difference to me.
None of the features work on htcsense for me.

I'm already signed for HTCSense account from start with google email address.
Have all the problems as described in thread. But a month ago everything seems working at least I can make my phone ringing and have all the contacts and data synced.
P.S. Just tried all services from htcsense.com and seems everything started to work but very slooooowly. For example I get phone locked after one hour after send a command from web site.
after some waiting i noticed that all the services at htcsense.com now is working for me, i guess it was Htc that had problems
I just had a look, and it's still telling me my phone finder settings are off on the phone (they're not).
No messages/contacts being sync'd either.

Exactly same problem, I don't know how to fix it
Sent from my HTC Vision
I see my contacts etc. but for location has me in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! Location is fine in Maps etc. so something weird happening at the server end.
I tried this a week or two ago and faced similar issues. At first it wouldn't detect the phone location tracking as being on. After a while, it finally picked up my phone but said I was in the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of Africa. The next day, I went outside for 15 minutes with the GPS on and only then did it get my location correctly. It looks like the website can't use the wifi/cell tower approximate locationing system and needs a clear GPS signal to get the location. This limits the usability of the feature somewhat.

Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of Africa is exactly where it put me!!! still cant get it to work tho
I selected the option in Menu/Settings/Location to reinstall Locations. Also then got myself a GPS lock. Still tells me my "Phone Finder" is off at HTCSense.com, and most of the other stuff not working either.
Hey everyone!
So I am a little new when it comes to the issue of WiMax 4G.. I'm in Orlando, which has 4G, and I am able to successfully able to connect with the 4G radio (though I do find myself dropping from 4G to 3G depending on the area I'm in).
When I am sitting at my desk at work, I can send myself an e-mail to my google account and not receive the push notification that it had arrived. I've been testing this over the past couple days and noticed that when I would pick up my phone (still connected to 4G, by the way, though there are no "bars") and load up some application that polls for data, such as Facebook, the sync would then occur and I would get the notification.
So my question is this: Is this the expected behavior of the 4G radio? Does it sit in an "idle" state when not being used, which would then restrict it from receiving push notifications? I did disable 4G at my office and the data connection seems more reliable (push notifications are immediate).
I've had this phone for only three days, so I'm giving it a couple weeks to see if I might need to exchange the phone, but I figured I'd see if anyone more knowledgeable than myself could shed some light on things.
Thanks!
- Andy
from what I know if you are bouncing back and forth from 4g to 3g then in that part of the area you have very weak 4g signal and better off just sticking to 3g in that part of the building. it could be that since its bouncng back and forth that its not pulling the data automatically like it should.
[UPDATE]
I'm resurrecting my own thread, because after another week of testing on multiple devices (total 2 Shifts and a 2 Epics), I'm ready to make the following statement:
Sprint Android 4G phones do not reliably push using their WiMax radios.
I've tested this in several different ways, with both my Shift and my buddy's (rooted 2.2) Epic. My actual test went something like this:
- Find a place with at least one "bar" of 4G (listed as fair, though this is repeatable outdoors as well, just easier to do next to the computer)
- With 4G OFF, send myself a message to my GMail account. The notification happens on the PC instantly, and anywhere from 1-20 seconds later on the shift.
- Turn on 4G radio. Send another e-mail to the GMail account. This time, no notification hits the phone (I waited at least a minute before continuing to the next step).
- Run Speed Test (I contacted the helpful HTC support desk, who actually told me that I might be on 3G even though I see the little 4G radio icon). This last run I register 3.6Mbps down and about 1Mpbs up. That's not 3G. At this point in the test, I received my e-mail notification once in the 10 or so times I tried this. The other nine times I STILL had not received my notification.
- At this point, if I wanted to see the message, I either switch off 4G or manually refresh the GMail application.
Note that this test was repeatable on my phone on GTalk, Voice, and the new Android Market (downloading apps from PC) as well. The Epic only did this test twice; once indoors with GMail and once outdoors with GMail, but I imagine the other push applications would behave exactly the same way.
I wanted to be ABSOLUTELY sure about this before bringing this thread back, but now that I am, here's the question: Anyone with 4G coverage, can you repeat these findings, and is this the intended functionality of the 4G radio?
Sprint tech support (who I also contacted) indicated to me that I should be able to push on 4G, as did HTC, so maybe I'm missing something here. In any case, I figured this was the best place to ask.
- Andy
Just did some testing for you. Disconnect 3G, wireless and only enabled 4G. Sent an email from my exchange server to myself and it pushed to the phone in a couple of seconds. I replied from the phone and it was in my outlook again in a few seconds.
So at least 4G and exchange work fine.

I wish I had an exchange server I could have tested with as well. As I mentioned, I used only GMail, GTalk, Google Voice, and Market. Among the things I looked at was the field labeled "Standby Time" in the WiMax section in ##DATA#. I haven't messed with it (default 10 minutes), but if you're willing, can you set to 4G, wait this timeout interval, and attempt your test again? I'm trying to put the puzzle pieces together.
Also, I haven't entirely ruled out either my device or my area, yet I do think it strange I can repeat this with another device simultaneously, with both having 4G signal.

Same result. Also GMail is notifying just fine though not as fast as exchange, but still less than a minute. Have you tried turning off mobile network (3G)? Then you'll know you're only on 4G for sure. You can add the widget under widgets >> settings >> mobile network.

Thanks for checking into that for me. I will try disabling 3G at work tomorrow (I would do it from home, but I typically don't get 4G where I live). Also just verifying, you were testing with 3G on as well, or only off? One of the things I was theorizing was that push notifications were being "handled" by the 3G radio, but since 4G was on, they weren't being processed until that radio was reactivated.
In either case, I have something else to test, so thanks again!

the way I did it was to have only 3G on, do the tests, turn 4G on, do the tests, turn 3G off, do the tests, leave phone alone on 4G and let it be (items still notified).
Glad to help.
