I know but...help? - HD Mini General

So I've seen many posts about porting android from other devices to this mobile , and 2 of them use SD-card boot using haret and some other files.
My question is , how do they create their own boot from SD ROM? I know this is the wrong section but I'm desperate , I'm trying to keep my winmo and have ICS at the same time , any help appreciated.

I'm Sorry, I don't know how to create or doing that.
I'm busy to make changes in NAND ROM bugs, WinMo has became useless and out dated from Microsoft totally.
please make sure that you post in general Q.

thanks for the reply ,
so I found the system.ext2 from the CM7.2 and replaced the files inside with the files from your ROM 9.1 , (I copied the files from the folder system).
My question is , does any initrd.gz and any zKernel work? Or everyone is different? (this is basic android and not basic SD , so please help!)
thanks

zImage is the kernel, so you can't do cm7 kernel with cm9 kernel.

so is there anyway to convert your CM9's Kernel to a zImage? Or where can I find it?Because I'm trying to keep my WinMo and make my own Boot From SD CM9.
thanks
EDIT: How about extracting the zImage from your boot.img and then using it ....I believe it should work , or I must use some more editing?

Answering in your new thread....

And - How to mount rootfs.ext2 to YAFFS2/Nand? or even data.img? or sdcard partition ? GpartedLive?
Please: just want a simple boot.img+system.img combo that will allow daf.exe to install (correct parts etc) Ubuntu to NAND - and if this not possible then at least cut down version (resize rootfs.ext2 and mount to sd???) for AD SD BOOT.

[Q] convert cwr/nand to sd build ?

Any body know a noobish way to convert cwr zip's to a SD (boot from haret/WM) ?
Thank's in advance !
There is no noobish way to do that...
You know an other way you can share maybe?
I am 100% sure it cannot be done easily, never heard of a method to convert it anyway. I am not a chef, but I guess you have to cook it separately, just ask the chef of a ROM you'd liked to have in a NAND form, and maybe (but probably not) he will cook a nand version.
Its just that i wanna change the clockwork file's to a SD build.
If i extract the cwr zip file ,i have no system.ext file ,its a system folder.
Haret is missing to ..

thats why a few posts up it was saiud no easy method of doing it
unfortunately if it was as simple as 1 click then everyone would be making their own roms
The fact that it was said that there is no easy method is sufficient to get our developers going -- they will create such a solution, since it would be considered a challenge.
This is XDA after all.

[Q] Transforming a nand rom to an sd rom

As wrote in the title.. because of the new miui are not more producted in via sd I would like to produce it but I don't know how is possible.. are there people that can say me how is it possible to do it?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
Technically it should be possible by converting the system files from a nand build to a system.ext2 file and using an sd initrd.gz, and I had several devs trying to teach me to do it but I was never able to get it to boot. I never tried converting a miui rom though so who knows.
i havent actually done it but i am able to port most of the roms except apps and framework. the second i do that it wont boot
I have the same question because I want to use MIUI 1.4.1 too. Or is there somebody that wanna do it?

genext2fs -d <source-folder> -b <size of ext2> system.ext2
^Bscly. Of course it requires a Linux box.
in order to get the build to boot you'll have to correctly mod the files in linux

Great, thanks a lot. downloading right now. will try tomorrow.
I wish there could be a manual/tutorial how to do it. I hate begging people to get it done for SD. I doubt your chef would be doing every new version of MUIU to SD. That's why it would be great to learn so that me and others like myself could do it on our own.
Thanks for getting this build converted.

All MIUI roms needs language pack after installation. In the earlier SD builds, the language pack was placed in the root folder and the device reboot would update the language pack.
BTW someone already ported the 1.4.8 build for SD/MAGLDR in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12839635&postcount=206
Just an idea... shall we form a team, create a thread "Porter Series SD Roms" or something like that and try porting all the NAND roms to SD build?
But are there any rules in XDA that prohibits us from doing this? Did not want to end up being banned here.

[Q] Using Nand kernels on SD build

How do you use a Nand kernel on an SD build?
Specifically, I want to use Marc's v 1.5 Sense kernel on Boxmax v6.5 Sense 3.5 build. Boxmax did provide the v 1.4 kernel packaged for his build, but has since said he will stop developing due to other priorities.
So basically, I'm currently using the 1.4 kernel, and I would like to upgrade to the 1.5 kernel. How would I go about doing that? Is it as simple as replacing the zimage? or is there some other things I have to do?
Anyone have any idea how to do this?

Well, that's what I'm asking how to do.
I have an SD build. I can't use CWM to flash the kernel. So I'm asking for the proper way to do it.
There's a zimage file. There's also a META-INF folder and a system folder.
Do I just replace the zimage file on the Android folder on my SD card? Or is there more I have to do?
It would help if you actually read my first post...

It would really help if you use search but nevermind.
Find guides how to cook rom. In there there is part choosing your kernel.
Be aware that u may get into problems by replacing/updating kernel

Thanks for the response.
I was just mainly going through the threads hoping someone would post an answer or something similar. I tried google search, focusing it specifically on the XDA website, but after going through ~3-4 pages and not finding anything remotely close, I gave up.
Anyways, thanks for pointing me in a direction (hopefully the right one).

Thanks for trying Cjovecje!, but... everything you have posted was about Nand roms, and didn't talk about SD roms at all. SD rom information is much harder to find I don't know if you tried using a SD build vs a Nand build, but the two are very different in how they are set up and run.

Unable to boot Android using haret on HTC Leo

Hi
Using HTC Leo with Windows 6.5 from US T mobile.
Was able to boot to Android twice using Haret.exe. Booting into Android had pattern lock (which was never set previously) or google account (no one used Android on the device). Removed the battery and booted into Windows 6.5, not sure of the Android version copied on the device.
Am now unable to boot into Android again, it stops at jumping to kernel... need to remove battery to boot into Windows.
Am a novice and need your detailed expert assistance.
Appreciate your guidance.
Rgds..
Zac
Hi Zac, welcome to the forum.
Did you buy the device with an android build on the sdcard? Else how do you not know which android rom is on it?
What is the folder name which has haret.exe in it and what other files are in that folder?

My cousin used it in USA and gave it when visiting. He never made any changes on the device - did not even know Android folder existed. I was browsing through the CD card contents and found it.
It is on my Storage card under Android folder- has CLRCAD and HARET exe files.
Thanks
i would forget about using that android folder and either choose another one from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/hd2-android/sd-dev
or choose to install a rom using NativeSD method, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986437
or perhaps get rid of wm6.5 altogether and install android or wp7
best of luck

a working link to which particular rom?
we have an unwritten rule that says do not ask "what is the best rom" since that is a personal choice. So i won't just give you a link to my fav(s)
some links are old and not working, if i have the rom on my hdd i can usually upload a mirror for it, or someone else might if requested to in the thread, unless the OP (original poster/post) of the rom thread specifically states "no mirrors". It is usually worth searching the thread for "mirror" and reading the last few pages, as someone may well have already posted a mirror.
