No way that I know of without fixing the button.
You *may* be able to use cLK instead of Magldr. I *think* it requires different buttons but I recommend reading about it and making sure before you start. You can get into the tri-colored boot loader by holding the volume down key during boot and flash cLK if that helps.

Now he's going to face another problem. On magldr, he could boot up the phone by connecting a charger, how's he going to do that on clk with his end button broken?
Maybe there is a way to boot by connecting the cable and then pressing the call button, but he should do his own research whether it's possible or not .

I too seldom power off but if/when you do how do you turn it back on?
Since you are using it I am guessing it is not the digitizer and the screen works. I do have another with a (probably) bad digitizer I have been meaning to take apart. One day..

Hi, there's another method... Remove your back cover and you should see a small pinhead sized button. Press it with a pin and your phone will power on... It works for me, I hope that it will for you

2. have you charged the phone ?
on a bright side, you are the 1st one !
Maybe your battery is loose? Not to mention that bricking a
phone is usually due to screwing up a software flash. So, is brick really the right word?

If you are stuck on the phone to PC screen, you are NOT bricked. During development, I ended up getting into this state a couple times myself. You can still get into download mode in the same fashion.
Connect your phone to USB so you get the phone->PC screen. Press and hold both volume up/down. Then press and also hold Home. Then start pressing and holding power for 2 seconds. After 2 seconds, let go of power. Continue holding volume up, volume down, and home, until you get into download mode.

no icon, no GUI, no nothing (
Yeah, weird...I just flashed back to US firmware and now my phone is totally unresponsive to everything. Keep in mind I've flashed back and forth several times...even once thought my phone was bricked because the power button wouldn't even turn the screen on. But after holding the correct buttons it finally booted into download mode. I was even using my phone earlier just fine, and having it run quadrant test of 1700, but as soon as I flashed back to 100% stock US firmware, my phone now no longer boots. Go figure lol.
Though this time I think it has bit the dust for real, lol. So be weary of flashing back to US firmware if you are flashing a lot of different other firmwares. Cuz I think something happens and the key combinations get deleted so it refuses to boot into any mode.

I"m at the phone to pc screen..but the Home button is not a "button" it's a touch sensitive button on my vibrant and it won't go into download mode...
I got here because i flashed the custom kernel to put the market and data on a ext4 partition...and it reversed my volume buttons and reversed the routing of sound..headphone speaker..that stuff....so i couldn't hear anything...so when i went to reflash stock t-mobile firmware it told me not to unplug for like hours..it wasn't doing anything.....i took the battery out and now i'm stuck at phone to pc...i think i might just use the warranty..seeing as u can't do a think with it...atleast i can't that is..i feel like a moron...

Awesome guides! No doubt about that. I'm not a complete noob but I am new to the HD2 and I feel stupid bc I can't get past the first step I am frustrated cuz I have been looking all over for ways to check SPL my trio screen that everyone talks about is not coming up. Idk what to do. I've done the volume down with power button and also tried pressing the reset button in the back just to see if it works. I boot into Windows to make sure the volume down works and it does.
I have the tmobile version Leo 1024. Any suggestions.

thank you guys but idk why it is not working but i finally managed to get it to bootloader by trying to install hspl3 it automatically sent me to the bootloader screen. After it said "we hacked it" i rebooted and tried to see if it would work with the typical hardware button
voldwn + power button and then let go and it still does not work.? :/
ps . i let go of power button but kept holding the voldwn and still did not work.

Yes and so I started following your guide to install clk since I know that I at least now have hspl3 installed and in the part where you task29 I followed instructions successfully flashed. Everything is going well until you say to reboot into boot loader mode by removing battery and voldwn + power. I try it hoping it would finally work and it doesn't.

Nice, real slick move,, you can't get into bootloader, yet you still decide to go ahead and wipe the OS, so now you have a non booting phone and no access to bootloader.
That's a handsome if totally useless lump of glass and plastic you have there!
JTAG, or sell for spares. (Well, after trying everything you can think of, but all I can think of is freezer trick, but its a loooooong shot. )

what is jtag and whats the freezer trick? is there any other way to get into bootloader mode maybe with sd?
Im willing to open the phone and remove or unplug a strip to completely erase any stored data and hope that it boots into bootloader?
SOLVED!! hope this helps someone else
i got it to work. My god there are soo many ppl with this phone soo many threads and post not sure if thats a good or bad thing lol anyways out of all the searching I found this guy to have had the same as me and he solved it. It was impossible for me to ever i mean EVER boot in to the trio color screen or bootloader what ever its called using the hardware buttons even tho the hardware buttons do work. I was able to get into bootloader when comp and phone sync and I used the hspl3 program to boot the phone when it was fully on the win mo stock.
Anyways I just followed this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10644926&postcount=4
I opened up my hd2 (unscrew and removed the back panel) and disconnected the connector flex rigid board (A board) of the hardware keypad from the mainboard….and pushed the battery in and pressed reset (sometime u need to plugin the usb cable to wall charged/pc to wake up the phone) and held volume down key and hopped for some miracle.
Viola saw the tricolor screen after eternity – since the back panel (not backcover) was open I help the battery to the pins and didn’t even move my fingers …run the stock rom installation and held the battery tight in place and waited to get the rom completed…the moment its 100% relaxed my fingers and reconnected the flexboard connector, re-assembled my phone and everything was back to normal.
I also used these pages for reference on parts:
http://www.ifixit.com/pdf/ifixit/guide_5919_en.pdf
http://pocketnow.com/hardware-1/official-htc-hd2-disassembly-assembly-training-videos-leaked
ps. no need to take the whole phone apart. I believe you are disconecting the AP FPC from main board which is connected to your hardware buttons if I am correct.
Edit: I want to give credit to kylew1212 for walking me through the rest of the installation of my android.
Interesting, good job.
i have a lot of sympathy for his viewson peace
hi all,
I was running a miui rom when I messed up with a sd card partition. Magldr was acting funny afterwards so i decided to task 29. After the process completed the phone would always get stuck on the stick together screen. I have tried soft and hard reset but it didn't work.
Here some info on my phone:
Tmous HD2
Radio: 2.15.20.14
Rom: myMIUI 14 B3
HSPL: 2.08
I searched for a solution and this was close: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10644926&postcount=4
But my power button is working fine and so are the volume buttons. I just can't get into the bootloader screen.
Any help is much appreciated.
Tas29 removed magldr. You need to reinstall it. Power off your phone, hold the volume down button and boot up. then reinstall magldr.

Remove battery.
Wait 10 seconds
Replace battery
HOLD VOLUME DOWN BUTTON
while holding volume down button
Press and hold power button
IF above doesnt work (i dont see why not) then you have some other error. My first guess would be volume rocker not working
You don't need to hold power button, it's only the volume down button that triggers the bootloader.

Thanks for the tips, I think my volume down button doesn't work. Before task 29 it would sometimes not work in magldr but it would work fine in recovery.
Should I get it repaired or get a new phone?

I wouldn't mind sending my hd2 to you as I have a backup phone, are you in the states?
I have had ICS on my HD2 for about 3 months and working fine. Last night I plugged it into the computer USB to charge it up and it went into the tricolour screen with USB connection (may be I pressed something while plugging it in?). Unplugging it made no difference and the only way out was to remove the battery temporarily. I think I then tried rebooting and it seemed OK. This morning it will not boot up at all - it seems to start, goes past the short vibration and the screen is backlit but the Nand Rom does not boot. Can anyone suggest how to proceed or do I now own a brick?
Check the pins that connect your device with the batter and make sure they're straight. It also seems that you're out of juice, recharge the battery.

Thanks - the pins are OK and I can charge the battery and the orange LED changes to green so I assume it is fully charged. Any other suggestions please?
First try leaving the battery out for a few minutes but...
could be a power button issue, the digitizer cable runs too close to it in the HD2!
If you are confident enough you could open it up and check?
Flicking the power button a few times might make it work but is not going to solve the problem...

Thanks for the reply. There might be a clue in what you have said here because I have noticed recently that sometimes I have had to press the power button one or two times to bring it out of sleep mode. So perhaps it is the digitizer cable which has a flaky connection. I don't mind delving inside but not having done it before I would like to see some guide on how to proceed first. Does the symptom support your suggestion?

OK. I found a screwdriver, watched some videos, and took it apart. I could not find any connection problems or chaffing by the power button so I thought I would just try to put it back together. Got it back together and it powers up as before with short vibration and the screen is backlit but nothing is displayed so I have no knowledge as to whether the LCD/Digitizer is at fault or something else is preventing the bootup and not sending signals to the screen display OR has the bootup occurred but I cannot see tthe progress because the LCD/Digitizer is faulty. Has anybody any idea what is the likely cause of the problem so I can decide whether to buy a new LCD/Digitizer or not?

Hi again and thanks again I have tried to get to the Bootloader screen and also to the Magldr menu but I just get the screen backlit and no more. So before forking out on a new LCD/Digitizer the question in my mind is - is this the LCD/Digitizer or some other hardware/software problem which a screen replacement will not solve?
That's the burning question!
I could not possibly say for sure, if the power button was giving problems leading up to the display problem then it is "quite likely".
More than that i cannot say.

OK, I have tried the screen and digitizer in another phone and it works fine. So this implies the phone hardware or software is not working correctly. I pressume that this implies it is a brick but I wonder if there are any tricks that can be used to ressucitate it? Any comments would be useful. Do I need to replace a specific board or component? Thanks for all the help so far.

Turn off the device(Hold the power button for about 10sec) if it's on. Now hold all three hardware buttons(Power, volume UO & Down) togather till the google logo shows up, and this will tur your device on into fastboot mode. Now you should be able to to find your devece from your PC(if driver installed). If you ment "Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit" by "WUG" than you probably want to use Flash stock + Unroot (Can't boot up).

Thanks I tried this. When I try to turn it off it immediately reboots. Tried holding the 3 buttons when this occurs, but the result is still the dead droid with no command under it. The screen where you can select reboot recovery, bootloader never comes up. Confirmed fastboot isn't working.
Any other ideas?

It's not 3 buttons, only power and down volume.

Sorry my bad. But three button also works for me. I just tested.
I tried power and up and power and down. Still get the same result

Try not holding power, only press the volume key when the Google logo shows up.

Got the angry droid doing this. One I turned the power on, held the volume key up and once again with the volume key down. What am I doing something wrong?

Even if you just tap the volume button on the Google screen? It should have the same result normally, but something is funky.

Something is really funky. I did the same exercise with another N7 and got into bootloader with no issues
Think it's worth letting the battery die and start over? Grasping at straws

Perhaps, just be aware that running the battery all the way down can also cause booting issues.
