Anyone on here ever have trouble using the G+ app after flashing a new ROM and then backing up with TB? I'm having this issue on my Nexus S & 10, but my 7 is mysteriously fine...can't figure out why and there are no solutions online that work. I've turned 2 step authentication off, removed my Google account and then signed back in, rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled, and checked my Wifi Settings...nothing has worked. This issue is driving me insane.

I'm having the same problem, except its with my Nexus 7. Rooted with TWRP, been running CleanROM3.0 for a while now, but installed Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly (31/01/13) today. Restored apps using Titanium but some would not restore, including Youtube and Google+. Upon installing Google+ I got the error message "Cannot connect to Server".
I have since, wiped cache, wiped dalvik, formatted internal data, removed all of my google accounts (had two other accounts on there that I had not signed up to google+ with) and added my main one again - but still can't sign in to G+. Also saw other fixes online such as updating your location and time/date settings, but did not work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled G+ about 6000 times today I think. I finally managed to sign into a 2.0 version of the Google+ app that I found online, and then tried updating to the latest in the Play Store, but it did not display the update option, and when I uninstalled and reinstalled, again I couldn't sign in. Thinking of going back to stock, re rooting and installing Cyanogenmod when I get home - but if you discover any other fixes in the meantime please let me know!
Thanks,
I finally got it to work. Here's how I did it:
Wipe your device, flash whatever ROM you use, flash GAPPS, login using your Google account (do it manually) and then when you boot up TB install everything as you usually do, but don't restore system settings or any of the google apps (no G+, Wallet, etc) install those manually using the Play store. If what I did actually made it work, then you shouldn't have any problems using G+.

I'm having this issues also, thanks for the help!
Edit
-Still, it does not work. I wiped, flashed a ROM, ignore titanium backup, login and installed Google+ from playstore but it really does not work When I open the app, it just lead me to a white background then google+ does not load. The same as messenger app.

I'm a little late to the party, but is there any chance any of you have tried chameleon launcher or any other app that may be able to access Google+?
I just installed Chameleon launcher on my phone and set up the Google+ widget that Chameleon has built in and when I granted it access is when my Google+ app stopped working. I had to uninstall it reinstall and set up the widget again and then deny access to get it working again. I know it's a long shot but it just may help.

Solution
I've had the same problem - I hope my solution might help some of you:
In my case the problem was AdAway (especially the "hostsx_googlecode_com/svn/trunk/hosts"-source) after deleting this source and refreshing AdAway the problem was gone...
I had this problem recently while trying to install Android 4.3 on my Int'l Galaxy Nexus (maguro). What I did to fix it was log on to Google Dashboard from my computer and click on Security. While under Security, I scrolled down to Connected Sites and clicked on Review Permissions. At the next screen, revoke the permissions of all apps at the top of the list that pertain to Android (or at least the ones granted permissions since you broke whatever you did). Once you've done this, you should be able to login to Google+ (or Hangouts if that's where your trouble lies) without any trouble. I've messed this up twice in the last day or so and this fix has got me back on track both times.

One solution for stock Nexus 7
I know this is an old thread but want to share a possible solution to help others Googling for help like I was.
I'm on Nexus 7 2013 with multiple users (AKA profiles). I had the same error "Can't connect to server" with Google+. Hangouts and Gmail apps logged in fine. Other user was fine using Google+ the whole time.
What worked for me:
* Open Photos app.
* Click OK on auto-backup.
* Open Google+ app. Select account to sign in with (if you have more than 1 Google accounts like me)
Really, I don't know why auto-backup was ever turned off, maybe an update to the Photos app. My guess is the Photos app was locking access to Google+ while waiting for me to choose yes or no on the auto-backup.
What didn't work:
* Unchecking, rechecking Sync with Google+.
* Restarting.
* Clearing Google+ app cache and data.
Tech details of Nexus 7:
* Stock Android 4.4.3.
* Build KTU84L.

Installed the Dexter upgrade 1.2. Update went flawlessly. Followed all the steps outlined in earlier posts. Now have Calendar!!!! and market icon. When I try to add my gmail account I get the following message -
"Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server."
I can sign into my gmail account through the browser...but can't seem to connect via the "add a google account" or through the gmail icon (which was not a problem before the upgrade.)
Also tried to set up a new gmail account. Get the same message.
Any ideas?
Make sure your date and time is set correctly
Time and date are set properly. But I switched to automatic just in case...
Still get the same message. Worth a try though. Thanks.
Market issues
I am having the same issue with the google / gmail account setup. It does not appear to be connecting through the wireless when connecting to google. I have let the inital connection fail then it sets up the wireless and that gives the message about not being able to connect to data services (cell network). I can browse with the browser fine and is otherwise normal but will not set up google accounts. Did the factory wipe and the install went great without any other issues.
Cannot get to market HELP!
Ok this is a major problem, market won't allow you to sign in with your google account. Ever since the update to 1.2 is like they put a lock on the market! I wiped both the user settings as well as the cache before updating to 1.2 and I am still locked out. Can anyone clarify what I am doing wrong?!
still not working
OK...came to my office and tried a different wireless network..not that I thought that was the problem, but anything is a shot. I have wiped the cache, etc. et.c
Still a no go.
All the workarounds that I have found use You Tube...but A7 doesn't have You Tube and no other sites that I can access offer it.
Since this thread isn't on the "developer" part of XDA not sure if anyone who can help is seeing it.
Here's the upside...I didn't have market before..so I haven't lost anything except a lot of time.
Has anyone gone back to the previous mod version to see if it doing the same thing? Could it be an issue with Google and not the mod?
I have not done that...but will try it tonight. I had othe problems with 1.1...FC on both sound and brightnes and the calendar, so I went right to 1.2 after that rather than load anything back onto the device.
This has been happening since yesterday. the g tablet section is having the same issue, as are many other I'm sure. Google seem to be screwing with the market.

Hi,
I am unable to download anything from Market Place.
Whenever I want to download anything from Market Place, the tab will show "Download".
However, even when I press download, I was always prompted the error message, "Error proccessing purchase". I would like to state that I am downloading free app, not paid app.
I have to do a workaround, by going to web-based Market Place to "Install" the app.
Afterwhich, when I go back to my Market Place, the same app which I had problem downloading would be shown "Install", instead of "Download".
And when I click on "install", the download will go through with nowproblem.
At the same time, I have no problem updating all my exisitng apps.
I have tried clearing the data, but the problem still persist.
May I know what would happen if I do a factory reset?
Can I do a Titanium Backup and do a factory reset after that?
And if a factory reset, doesn't help, I'll just restore my system data.
Thanks guys, hope someone can help.
Are you on the stock Rom?
This has happened to me also, a solution (that didn't work for me) was to remove your google account, clear the cache and market data, then re-add your google account. I still have the problem but I have a google account and a google apps account, when the downloads don't work on my google account, I just use my google apps account.
I had this happen too, I did the same as the above post^

I've not noticed any problems lately (beyond the usual having to refresh a few times to get a page to load, and having to power cycle or disconnect and reconnect wifi to get an app to start installing).
I had this exact issue about 5 weeks ago.
After exchanging emails with Google Tech folks, it was determined that my Google Talk account had logged out.
They said that your market is tied to your google talk account.
I went through, deleted everything, re-added my google account, and made sure the GTalk was working, and bam, market began working.
I have a google apps account too.
Thanks guys for the response.
I tried removing my google account, cleared the cache and data, and re-added my google account, it still failed to work.
This is really frustrating. However, I was able to download Angry Bird Rios just now.
The funny thing was, the tab was showing "Install", instead of the usual "Free".
I am thinking that the probable reason why it was showing "Install", instead of "Free" was because I used to have this game in my account.

jus tried to log in the my google talk account, it's still the same.
now i am seeing viber with the "Install" tab on my Market, whereas the rest of the other apps are showing "Free".
I had the same issue, and the only way I was able to fix it was with a factory reset. I backed up all of my non-system apps with Titanium Backup, then wiped my data. When going back to restore apps and data, just let the Market re-download any apps you have backed up to your account, and use Titanium Backup only to restore the missing apps and data.
That would be my next suggestion. Complete backup, wipe, and reinstall. Once reinstalled, be careful not to click install more than once on an app -- this seems (to me) to cause instability. If an app doesn't start installing a few seconds after you hit the install button, disconnect and reconnect your wifi. If that doesn't clear it (although it always does, for me) an alternate method is to completely cold-boot the tablet.
I have an N7 3g. I'm using MoDaCa's JR-4. Outgoing emails continually get stuck in the outbox and don't go out. I think it has something to do with N7. I have never had this problem with other android cell phones, PC, etc.
Is there a solution?
Thanks
I have had this problems on phones before, but not yet on the N7 *knocks on wood.
First I would check your sync settings to make sure all is appropriate.
The way I was able to remedy the situation was to either uninstall gmail, and reinstall, or just uninstall the latest update. I haven't had that fail me yet. You could also try clearing data, cache, and force stop the app from settings first.
(may require reboot after)
Good luck!
i had this issue in Gmail today on the N7 running a CM 10.1 nightly. i used to see this a lot as well on Gingerbread, and uninstalling the app/clearing data in the app does work but makes you lose the draft you had written(which sucks if it was a long one!). i used to solve it by clicking reply and creating a dummy message in the same thread, saving that message as a draft, then going into my drafts folder and the message that got stuck would have an option to send... or something like that, and that worked. however, i couldn't seem to get it to work today, on Gmail 4.1.2 fortunately my stuck message today was small, so i just cleared data in the app and rewrote it, and it did send then.
You could also just highlight the whole draft and copy, then paste when done. It should be copied to your clip board and not the gmail app. I suppose it is always safer to save it somewhere before deleting, though I would think if you were going to do that, you would want to save the copy in a different app like ever note.

I'll try that here on Jelly Bean next time, but that actually wasn't possible before. When the message got stuck sending, it was in a limbo state where the text of the message wasn't accessible to be copied! I definitely tried that because i lost some pretty long drafts!

I have rolled back gmail to the earlier version several times but it keeps updating behind my back and emails become stuck in the outbox again. Also, although I'm currently using JR-4, I have CM-10, PA, and stock rooted ROMS nandroided. I could restore any of them and test, but I'm pretty certain it's ubiquitous. It's either the gmail app or android 4.21.
Also, I have a Galaxy Note 2. 2 versions of gmail are installed: 1.0 and 4.21, and emails don't get stuck. N7 only has has 4.21 installed. Why doesn't N7 also have 1.0 installed?
Also, I just cleared cache and data and the email is resynching. I'm certain that the problem will return. I love the N7, but this is really annoying.

Is there a particular version of Gmail that works better? If so, have you gone into your market settings and disabled automatic updating? I've been running the 4.1.2 version for a long time now, and it never updates to 4.2. I also disabled update notifications so it doesn't bug me at all.
But yeah, it's an annoying issue. Sometimes i turn to K9 Mail, as it works great for Gmail accounts. Plus i love the dark theme option. In the end i like the way native Gmail synchs tho.

Thanks for your help. How can I downgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.1.2? I think that will work until Google addresses this issue. The Disable link inside "App Info" used to show this downgrade capability. However, that text was probably there when I was using a different Rom. I have MoDaCa JR-4 running now and I think I want to keep it.
I think if you flashed a ROM that came with 4.2, you won't have the option to uninstall updates. In any case, i posted 4.1.2 in the 3rd to last post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005006. You can just uninstall 4.2 and install 4.1.2 if you wish. Bad news 4.1.2 emails are now stuck in outbox.
This happens because Google wants to take over your e-mail service; in other words you must be using your Android or smartphone's e-mail app instead of Google's GMAIL App. There are two fixes to this problem, first is to download Goggle's GMAIL App and use that for email communication; and second is to ask google to allow 'less secure' apps i.e. non-google to access your e-mails (i know!) Here are the steps for the second option:
Allowing less secure apps to access your account
Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safe.
Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:
The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below
The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release
Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird
Change account access for less secure apps
To help keep Google Apps users' accounts secure, we may block less secure apps from accessing Google Apps accounts. As a Google Apps user, you will see a "Password incorrect" error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options:
Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures.
Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps:
Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account.
Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. (Note to Google Apps users: This setting is hidden if your administrator has locked less secure app account access.)
If you still can't sign in to your account, the "password incorrect" error might be caused by a different reason.
I've been unable to run the YouTube app on my N10 for the last few days. The UI launches, but I see a message saying "An error occurred" during the sign on process. I've tried clearing data & cache and reinstalling. I'm the primary root user on the tablet, and can access all other Google services. I have two other users setup, and neither of those have the problem. A Google search for this issue hasn't been fruitful. My wi-fi data connection is solid. Anything else I could try? Anywhere I could look at the logs?
I just started having the same problem on my Nexus 7. Worked fine earlier today, but now I keep getting the error occurred message when trying to sign in. All other google services seem to be working fine. Tried uninstalling, removing account, etc., no dice.
I ended up having to do a Factory Data Reset to fix it.
Weird. I happened to have a backup of the old version so I loaded that up and it signed in no problem! Don't know what's going on here, guess I'll stick with this for now.

Have you guy tried just wiping the Cache of the app? It fixed the same problem for me once but on my gs3.
I also have an SGS3 and I don't know what else to do. Every time I tap on "Log In" I only get "An error occurred"...
Clearing app data didn't help for me. Like the other poster, I could log in using the original version of the YouTube app, but not the latest. Only a FDR fixed the problem for me. So unless someone can address the core issue, you're stuck using an old version or doing a FDR.
Sorry, but what is FDR?
Factory Data Reset
Thanks. So, what's the error's origin?
at my app too
I have a SGY and i flashed a custom rom and at my YT app it shows "An error occuped" too. I cleared the data and cache but it still shows the error. I NEED HELP!!! sry for my english
I'm having this same issue, except on my Galaxy S II. I'm running CM10.
Same thing; "An error occurred", won't allow me to sign in. Previous versions of the app work just fine. Extremely frustrating, and nonsensical as it worked just fine a few weeks ago. Please help!!
Same error on my Note2 & Nexus7. Both are running custom ROMs. On the Note I'm able to sign in to an older version of the app (4.2.16) but still get an error. Getting a bit annoying now.
but my real Big problem is with GooglePLAY
Has this been solved? Getting the same thing on i777 Samsung Galaxy S2. Uninstalling youtube updates solves the problem. However I keep getting reminded by Play to update youtube app.
I have always had this problem with the N7. Like previously stated, some older versions work tho. I've started keeping a version which works in my Dropbox. After rom update, etc I install that version straight from DB. I get the Play Store constant nagging to update to ignore, but at least I have a usable version. Which Google would get it's **** together!

Have any of you ever used 2 step verification? Ever. After loads of pissing about, trying different things I eventually got it sorted by removing all the apps I had set up for 2 step about a year ago. I also removed a heap of apps from the Connected Sites, Apps and Services page of my Google account. (click profile pic>Account>security>2 Step Verification settings>Manage application - specific passwords). If you have any apps in the application specific passwords section, remove them.
If you've never used 2 step verification, try revoking access to some apps from the same page.
This worked 100% for me, can't guarantee the same for you. Good luck.

I've been having exactly the same problem. However, I have several Google accounts so I tried to logon using a different one and, lo and behold, it works perfectly with the other account. But go back to the falling account and the error comes back. Switch accounts, it goes away. So it definitely has something to do with the account.
In my case, the one failing is the main account that I use for everything. It would be interesting to see if other people have the same behavior. So far, I'm still having the problem...

Just for the benefit of the next person. I tried almost everything to solve this problem, to no avail. What I didn't do was a factory reset, as I believe (based on my previous comment), that it was an account problem somehow, since I could log on ok with other accounts.
How it inadvertently got solved? Well I noticed that if I tried to sign in, I'd get the message "an error occurred", but my "what to watch" recommendations matched that particular account. So I went to somebody's channel and subscribed and boom, suddenly I'm in ok, no error displayed.
Would anyone with the problem try that and report? I can now sign in and out without a hitch.

One fix that may work for you guys that worked for me is to uninstall updates to the youtube app in settings>>apps.
New update seems to have broken a lot of things with the app

Since installing 8.1 Wednesday morning:
1. My Google Camera app wouldn't open; I had to replace it.
2. Gmail stopped automatically downloading my email from yahoo.
3. Samsung Gear S2 no longer vibrates when PH-1 receives SMS (it vibrates with Facebook messenger messages, though.) I uninstalled all the associated apps and reset the watch - problem is still there.
If anyone has solutions for 2 or 3, lemme know. Both the Samsung Gear and Samsung Accessory Service app pages on Play Store are flooded with reports that vibrations have stopped working. The indicator shows on the watch face, but the watch doesn't vibrate. Reddit has reports of the same, as well.
At this point, I'd lose days rebuilding the phone if I backed up to Nougat. If you have advice or recommendations, please share 'em.

The fastest way to downgrade would be using Titanium backup to make backups of everything you need andor want then fastboot flash back with essential's firmware on their website.

How is your Yahoo account set up... POP or IMAP? If you're having problems with the one fetch method... Try the other...
Is there a setting in you S2 app that turns vibration on and off for individual apps? Otherwise I think that's a blame Samsung...

Thanks for the pointer. I'm now researching rooting.

I'll give a POP a try. Thank you!

Yes, there are settings that allow the S2 to vibrate for selected apps only. Messages and FB Messenger are both switched on; only FB Messenger vibrates the S2.

From everything I've read, I need to first root the phone, in order to get Titanium to operate. And, as I understand it, rooting (more accurately, unlocking the bootloader so that I can root) will wipe out all of my phone's settings. If I'm going to have to rebuild this thing from scratch, Essential is getting a call.
Essential customer service wasn't helpful.
I flashed back to 7.1.1 then re-installed 8.1 via OTA. Everything works again. Next step is to root to get Titanium on. I tried this morning, but failed, for some reason.

Make sure you grant titanium backup all it's permissions...
And if you can't get it to restore... Try switching to SELinux permissive

Got the phone rooted, but GMail was just NOT playing nicely with Yahoo; it would not auto-sync and notify of new emails. It would only download new email if/when GMail was launched. Long story short, I manually added the server settings for POP3 and that finally fixed it.
Incoming: pop.mail.yahoo.com, port 995, SSL/TLS
Outgoing: smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port 465, SSL/TLS
Other things I did that may have helped:
1. I uninstalled my Yahoo account from GMail.
2. GMail still showed remnants of my Yahoo account, so I uninstalled the latest GMail update. THAT action removed my Yahoo account.
3. I also verified my Yahoo account was removed from "Users & accounts" under Settings
4. From my PC, I changed my Yahoo password.
5. From my PC, I turned off Yahoo's "two-step verification" security under Yahoo's account settings. [During GMail account setup, the "two-step verification" security approach doesn't appear to use the server's typical password authentication credentials. Instead, it uses text messaging and proprietary codes entered into Chrome, which kept generating a 404 error on my PH-1.]
