Wifi sleep problems - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, my wifi keeps disconnecting despite the setting "Keep Wi-fi on During Sleep" is set to "Always" . I've tried deleting the wifi connection, a factory reset, and even a restore to stock. Any ideas?

I actually saw that yesterday before I started this thread. However, I missed this XDA post that is referenced in it...

It didn't help my issue but I think that I found the problem in my case. I was using an app called GO Power Master and I suspect that this was significantly contributing to my problem because the problem hasn't re-appeared since I uninstalled it. I will report back.

Yep, the GO Power Master app was the culprit. There is no remedy or fix in the app that I could find. So, I'm not going to use it anymore. My thread can be closed now.

Anyone else having wifi connection issues with 4.2.1?

I only got my n7 a couple of weeks ago and almost immediately updated to 4.2. I didn't notice any issues. Immediately after the 4.2.1 update I keep getting random connection issues. I have to turn wifi off and on to resolve it.

I had the issue.. 32gb version in the US with the sep build. I actually had it prior to to 4.2.1. I ended up going into advanced properties and changing wifi to always on. Drains battery, but fewer need to turn wifi off and back on.

Yes. I have WiFi disconnects and random reboots since the new update .

WiFi Fixer
I use WiFi Fixer downloaded from Google Play. When the connection is dropped it automatically reconnects after a second or two.
Same on my 7 WiFi stops working at random times turn WiFi off and on fixes it, only started after 4.2.1 update

Thanks for confirming everyone. I have wifi always on and still have the issue. Hopefully it gets fixed...

My WiFi is always on and tethered to my evo3d at least 8 hours a day. Not a single problem under 4.2.1.

Just to clarify, i'm having this problem 100% stock. Not rooted what so ever. Roms/kernels could have this eliminated. But I wouldn't know.

No wifi internet / e-mail / notifications after 4.2.1
I am having a similar issue. Stock Nexus 7, never rooted, installed the 4.2.1 update when it was pushed. Since then I can connect to wifi connections but there is no internet access. While the icon in the upper right has small flashing arrow like data is being sent back and forth, the icon remains gray and no internet-requiring services on the tablet work. I've tried everything that I (and Google Play and Asus support) could think of with no luck.
The only thing they could come up with at the end was to restore the tablet to factory settings. Unfortunately I have application data that I need to back up that I can't access by accessing the internal storage using my laptop (I'm stock, remember?).
So I'm between a rock and a hard place here. Anyone have any suggestions? It was very frustrating when the Asus representative suggested I use the built-in backup and restore feature:
Me: "That requires internet access to work right?
Asus representative: "Oh....right..."
My Wi-Fi on both my Nexus 7's is very slow. They stay connected fine but I'm getting about 150kbps download speeds. I factory reset one of them to no prevail. Anyone have any insight on this or heard of others with this issue? All my other devices work fine on the same Wi-Fi connection and I tried turning everything else off so just the Nexi where connected to see if the speeds are faster, but they aren't. I'm stock on both devices and both are the 16gb version, one older than the other.

Known issue. I logged a bug with Google and there's actually several open bugs reporting wifi issues. So far, none of the bugs are being picked up by google officially.

I've tried this same thing, and as soon as I installed 4.2, WiFi went to sh**. Completely stock.
So turning wifi off then on seems to be the generally excepted quick fix?

Or use Static IPs. That solved it for me. I had to ask my company to provide a reservation for my MAC Address. It's like back in the 90s when Wifi started coming out using the BellLabs/Lucent chipset.

Unable to turn on bluetooth sometimes?

I haven't seen anybody create a thread about this, but has anyone not been able to enable their bluetooth without rebooting their device? I'll hit the bluetooth toggle in the settings and it just shots off right away. I'm not exactly sure what's causing it but I'm hoping that it's just a software issue since I use A2DP to listen to music.
EDIT: I performed a Factory Reset, I'll let you guys know if this problem still occurs.

Would you recommend a factory reset?
I've had this happen occasionally on my N4, have to reboot in order to enable BT again. I'm guessing a software bug to be fixed in a future update. I doubt a factory reset will cure the problem.
Had this happen yesterday. I figured it was the nfc tag getting triggered too many times in the car mount? Simple reboot fixed it though.

happens to me to. BT won't come on and need to reboot phone to fix issue.
i only use BT while driving as my music streams from the N4.
It's prob a software bug. i wonder if there's a service that we could kill that may get it to work again with rebooting.
Same here. Reboot fixes the issue for me.

First issue with my N4 I've experienced is this - happened just now and came looking to see if I was the only one. Normally I have alogcat installed, but hadn't gotten around to it yet. Next time it happens I'll fire it up and see if there's any useful messages or not If I get any info from it I'll share it here.

Bluetooth toggle doesn't work all the time?

The past few weeks I have been experiencing the bluetooth toggle both widget and settings not working unless I reset my phone. Any ideas why it's acting like this? I doubt it's a hardware issue. Any help would be great. Thanks!

i have / had the same issue, but lately has not happened. I am on the franco kernel r29. give that a try and see if you still cannot enabled bluetooth.

I reboot when it happens also, but then it happens a few days after. I'm not sure why it does that. Maybe a bug?

I can't turn on my wifi and bluetooth neither. First I can turn them on after reboot, 2 days later, reboot doesn't work. Maybe it is a bug.
Okay well at least someone else is having the same issue as me, I hope it just a bug also.

do you have an NFC tasker installed? I think that might cause the problem...no sure tho, I'm having trouble with bluetooth not turning on too.
My 2 nexus is having the bluetooth issue, it will work when reboot or restart, but after a couple of day, you cannot switch the bluetooth on until you restart it. One nexus is rooted stock with bunch of app, The other is bone stock with very few app install.

please help, my gps stopped working

so, today, i needed to look up driving directions and my phone would not lock in. i thought it was kinda strange, so when i got home i did some research. attached are the gps test results. I know that it's the phone, because when i checked it on my nexus 10, it locks in right away. i tested both of them next to each other. i tried using the gmps status app to clear A-gps data and doing resets with the gps status apps, but it did not help. it's no driving me crazy since most people are happy with their gps in the nexus 4 and seem to be able to lock in within seconds. i've left maps on for minutes with no success. i've already checked both google settings in the accounts and location to be on.
i recently started charging my phone with the lg wireless orb. do you think that's the issue? how can i fix this? it's driving me crazy.
It seems to see the satellites, but can't lock in.

[Help][Urgent]WiFi won't turn on

Hi there!
I'm having a really bad problem at the moment on my s4 (i9505). Recently I upgraded from stock (MDE) to pre-rooted (MF8). Since then, my WiFi has stopped working, and it seems to be the only thing that has gone wrong. When I toggle WiFi on, it immediately toggles off (both in the quick settings, and through the settings panel). When I mean immediately, I mean within 1/10 of a second.
I flashed another ROM over it (OMEGA V7) and nothing changed.
I feel as though I've missed something vital, and would rather work on a fix for it rather than flash stock through Odin and start from scratch. Any help is very much appreciated.
Check settings in WiFi. There is an option for using cell or WiFi based on which one is faster, disable it.

No idea what's wrong. I literally JUST flashed a ROM. I've been doing this for almost 3 years and never have I seen an issue like this.

I can't really say why this happens but a lot of times with this phone it seems that the MAC address to the wifi is somehow lost and by removing the /data/.cid.info file you can somehow reset something that makes things work again. I assume it's somehow tight to different wifi network chip drivers in different kernels but I'm not sure. On some ROM's I have tried I have to do this on every boot...
