I used a MicroSIM Cutter bought from eBay after realising the Nexus 4 uses Micro SIMs, however after cutting the card the Nexus 4 has so far failed three times detect the SIM card, and only intermittently detected it once until this showed a few minutes later "The mobile network will be unavailable until you restart with a valid SIM card inserted."
However when using the provided adapters that came with the cutters to restore the SIM card to its original state it works fine in my old HTC Desire and gets reception.
Any ideas?

It's just not cut quite right for your N4, unfortunately. It's obviously lining up in your other phone OK but not in the N4.

Sv: [Q] Cut SIM not recognised in Nexus 4
Carrier lock?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Yeah looks like I botched up the cutting, can't trust sim cutters anymore!
No carrier lock, I just tried a spare GiffGaff sim I had lying around, which is one of the new kind in that it has a snap-out micro sim and it works in the Nexus 4. I can see it doesn't match up to my own cut sim (which has less of the white plastic around the edges of the gold rectangle).
It looks like you pushed it to the corners edges just a tad much. My noosy sim cutter allows for some adjustment in order to line it up correctly. Hopefully this was one of those free or $1 sims.. You can order a simple mobile micro sim off ebay for $1 to use it as reference.

1. The SIM was inserted incorrectly.
2. There is something wrong with the SIM card.
3. There is something wrong with the SIM reader in your phone.
1. Make sure the SIM is placed in the SIM tray properly and inserted into the phone properly.
2. Try the SIM in another known working phone. If it works, read #1 and #3 in the above notes again. If it fails, get a new SIM card.
Since you are receiving the 'SIM card removed' error, the most likely issue is with how the SIM was inserted or the SIM tray, since that error typically indicates the phone lost contact with the SIM card rather than never having contact to begin with. Make sure you are using a micro (3FF) SIM and not a nano (4FF) SIM designed for the iPhone 5. Also, an actual micro SIM is better than a cut down mini (2FF) SIM as with SIM trays like the iPhone and Nexus 4 the SIM needs to be relatively snug in the tray and shouldn't move around.
If the issue did not occur prior to flashing CM and you did not interact with the SIM card from then to now, then there is a very small chance the issue is software related. Either return to stock Android or download and flash a newer version of CM 10.1 (01/03 is very outdated and wasn't even an M release, not that nightlies aren't typically just as stable as stock) and retest.
Hello guys, just bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 from a technology store in Cyprus
I have a problem with the SD Card Socket, it doesn't click when i insert the sdcard and i have to drag it out to take it out, it won't click out either.
Using an 32GB Class 10 Verbatim MicroSDHC.
I've used the application SD Tools several times and when i "Start Speed Tests" the application freezes and i can't use the sd card in any other application, I don't know if any other guy has this issue.
Please tell me anything if u know how to fix this.
It seems your socket is broken. You have some options which are to take it back to the store for replacement or repair, or buy the part yourself and change it. It's a very easy fix.
Costs about $5 on eBay.

thank you very much, the strange part is that i used a SanDisk 16GB Class 4 microSDHC card and it clicked perfectly, it even clicks-out too, and it works perfectly, i don't know what to think, i've put the two microsd cards next to each other and they have the same exact size, i don't know what is wrong ;/
I know this question has been asked and answered several times but I swear I have tried everything and still no luck. I talked to ST support but they are no help.
I have a nexus 4 and I just moved to straight talk and ordered an activation kit directory though them. I am up and running but cannot receive MMS.
Thanks for your suggestions and help!

Well I bought the activation kit directly though Straight Talk. Sim says Trac on it.
Att sims are blue.
Tmoble sims are pink.
You're gonna need to tweak your APN settings.
Here's my tmoble APN.

New ATT sims are white. This thread has the settings you need.
A still image allegedly taken from a OnePlus promotional video, supposedly shows a device that might be the next phone offered by the upstart manufacturer. The photo reveals a device that supports dual SIM cards and has a microSD slot.

If this is true (and it's a big if), I sure hope that dual SIM is an option since it would make developing custom ROMs nearly impossible.
wow...i have mixed emotions about the dual-sime setup...lol...if what you're saying about cooking for it is right, then this will definitely be a game changer...however, an sd card slot is a WIN....
They looks more like a transflash card slot, cause as you can see there is only one protection for SIM card and the two pits miss the SIM connections, usually located on the bottom and not on side as look from this pic, but for sure is a strange layout

The piece in the centre (in the red circle) is an sd card holster.

Hey
I want to teach you how to use two sim cards and memory cards at the same time
You Need:
1-Skills!
2-Root
3-Lighter
4- Tweezers or some tool like that
Tutorial:
1- Take the SIM card using tweezers and heat the back of the SIM card with a low flame lighter
2- Using a razor or cutter, remove the SIM card chip from the plastic cover
3- If you have done the previous step correctly, now you should use your skills to identify the place of the SIM card on the memory card and stick it to the memory with a microscopic drop of glue
-4 Insert your Sim-Cards in the phone.
5- Now make this change in the software section:
[Only tested on eXistenZ Pie 47.2.A.10.107]
Change Buildprop from
persist.vendor.radio.apm_sim_not_pwdn VALUE 1
to
persist.vendor.radio.apm_sim_not_pwdn
VALUE 2
6- Reboot and enjoy!
